Yep, you could also call him a polymath. He'll always be known, first and foremost though, as the lead singer for Iron Maiden. With the possible excepton of RJD or Rob Halford I can't think of any better metal singer.
A published author, a world class fencer, the lead singer and a songwriter in one of the most successful bands in modern music history, he beat throat cancer, he pilots a 747, flying Iron Maiden around the world and he speaks in a calm, friendly, intelligent, considerate, articulate manner when interviewed. Any single accomplishment of his would make anyone else an overall success in life. Bruce is a very unique person to say the least. Unstoppable and a model of achievement for anyone. I hope he lives past 100!Cheers Bruce!
Seeing Bruce sat down chatting to someone shows just how intelligent he really is. I've read the book and followed some of his various accomplishments, but having him talk about this stuff shows how smart he is. This guy really has lived
The Rock and Roll hall of fame is a joke, why are legends like Iron Maiden not in there? They're one of the greatest metal bands ever... I'm glad to see them on the Nova Rock in austria.
Rice Waster Aleks I hope you're joking because if not, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Dio inspired so many bands from today... they're legends!
I like how happy the interviewer looks to be interviewing Bruce. Good on him! I was lucky enough to have him sitting opposite me at my university graduation a few years ago, as he collected an honorary doctorate. I gave him the metal horns...
King Charles will do it .....(no, HE will not do, I Know, I am a son of Navigator) & I am sad that Bruce and all the IRONS will never get the honour, like Genesis/Rolling Stones/Phil Collins... etc
I think nowadays, even in the past years of heavy metal music, nobody matches up with this man...nobody has a multi skills that he has...i am truly impressed...a big respect to bruce dickinson...this men is a legend!!!
I've been a pro musician and a voice teacher for 2 decades and... THIS GUY IS THE MAN. What he does with his voice is even harder than you think it is. Thanks Bruce!!! \m/ \m/
Even though it might feel monotonous and repetitive to do all the tours, I hope Bruce knows how much each event means to us. I have had the privilege to see Iron Maiden one time this year in Charlotte and I have to say it is the best concert I have been to. You are changing lives and making memories and you should feel proud of it. I know fans can be crazy 😝. But it’s all (mostly) our adoration of all of the work put in by the band, the producers, the set designers, and all the people who form fundamental parts that make the shows absolutely outstanding. Thank you Bruce and thank you Iron Maiden for being the best band in the world.
I have the autographed version of his book...read it cover 2 cover...loved it...not what i thought from a heavy metal rock star...i will say bruce is a "jack of all trades....and master of them all" piece of mind was my 80s anthem..wore my cassette out...this book was a long time coming...glad its in my home library. Thanks for the memories bruce.
Those aren't living legends Usually, the worst thing a Legend can do is NOT die (take for instance EVH) Bruce seems to be the only one who's respect has grown over the years
It can never be overstated how incredibly talented this guy is. Maiden was good before Bruce, but when he joined they became a global band that very few can compete with. The real Big 4 should be Sabbath, Priest, Maiden and Motorhead. Those are the true legends that started it all and made Metal what it is.
Bruce is a very talented man. The guy does so many things and does them very passionately. How many so called Rock Stars can do what Bruce has accomplished? Just impressive as hell.
I’d go with Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica & Pantera for big four but to each his own. Honorable mentions to Tool. Those five set the bar and changed metal more than any other bands as far as I’m concerned. Slayer and Testament are no slouches either🤘
Number of the beast, my favorite album. I remember, 1981. But, we all get turned on to Maiden with an album, then that's our favorite for always. That's the beauty of Maiden they keep going and pick up fans along the way. Well, and the fact they stay like Maiden and don't sell out. And they are HUGE!
I remember during the book of souls tour, Bruce kept yelling at the crowd to put their phones down and enjoy the moment. When a bunch of people in the front didn't listen, he stopped the band from playing briefly and scolded the concert goers lol 😆 Such a legend
Over the years I’ve grown to admire Bruce Dickinson more for the person he is rather than just as the incredible singer for Iron Maiden. I mean the dude flies commercial jets as a side job. He’s just an inspirational human being.
lasserchris I saw them in Nottingham UK last year and itade me so happy to see parents there with their kids. Passing on great music to the younger generations is essential.
Great singer, way ahead of its time. True legend. Super smart, a super guy literally. He really makes a perfect front man for a great band like Iron Maiden. Always inspiring. Gonna get the book for sure.
6ft deep snow in my Upstate NY! Love that Bruce commented on my homestate and our badass winters! It was the same in January 86 for the Somewhere In Time show at RPI in Troy! Anyone else at that show? I was only 13 years old!
What a great interview, just two people talking. Both engaged and listening to each other. No egos on either side. Alot of journalism these days is about trying to catch the person out. This was a pleasure to watch :)
Thanks to Loudwire and Bruce for doing this interview. I believe that all of us in our lives we have a “fear of the dark” but have to “push that button” in order to grow. Your comments are very thoughtful and you’re very articulate. I got introduced to Maiden in my teens and I’m still listening in my 40’s and Powerslave solos still earn me speeding tickets. Thank you Bruce and Iron Maiden for always bringing a smile on mine and I believe ALL our faces! Up the Irons!!🤘
Saw maiden for the first time last year on the Legacy of the Beast Tour in Freiburg. Sound quality: amazing. Performance of the band: first rate. The actual show, etc: an absolute gargantuan achievement. But the stand-out from everything was definitely Bruce. He didn't drop a note, ran around like a kid and commandeered the whole evening. I really wasn't expecting him to be that good. it's nice to be surprised...
6:54 AND, as good writers/producers know, the first part of anything and the last part are what people remember most and the first is most important as it's the HOOK, the first thing they hear so you want that to be just amazing and the first line of Heaven and Hell.... Ronnie sings that so great and probably true that he had to do it a few times to please the producer who knew it needed to be gold or you wouldn't be happy with it 20 years later.
Definitely best metal front man! Loved Maiden since 1981 and got to see them this past June at the first Gig on the US leg and took my son with me. Was such an amazing night to head bang with my son to my favorite Metal band!
Paul Di'Anno was definitely the best frontman of all time when he was in Iron Maiden. He had a charisma and stage presence that only Elvis Presley could match.
what I really like about Bruce is that you can still see the boy in him, that pure part of us that too many bury deep within. Bruce let's him out to play!
I met Bruce a few times but the one I cherish was when he played the marquee in charring cross road on his balls to Picasso solo tour, we got lobbed out at the end of the gig and we’d brought our albums up to get them signed, just when we were giving up ,we spotted Bruce behind the doorman walking about, after a few loud deep brucccceeeeee, bruccccceee , he come out the front and signed our albums and chatted a bit, absolute down to earth ,gifted human being. Thank god for him and maiden true professionals in British music.
My brothers ex girlfriends uncle is the drummer in iron maiden, I used to have a close relationship with her as a child and she got me into metal when she brought home the 2001 rock in Rio DVD
If it were not for LED ZEPPELIN BLACK SABBATH DEEP PURPLE, these bands paved the way for today's heavy metal, ZEP VOL2 caused King Diamond to make music, Black ice acdc one of the tracks uses the KASHMIR rift to start it off.
Got my tickets for Sept. in Sacramento.... never been a big fan but my respect has grown for this band and vocalist. I remember when I used to play Number of the Beast on my radio show (college) back in '83... tingles up and down my spine. The fact that Mr Dickinson is for Brexit even makes him more great
Great interview! Bruce being Bruce and the Interviewer did a good job. He came across as knowledgeable of the subject unlike some others I’ve seen. Kudos!
I am 34 years old and i was 16 when i went to rock in rio 2001. I WAS THERE singin fear of the dark and it was my first maiden show, the arena was 13km away from my house. So imagine a teenager, at the peak iof being metal and maiden fan seeing them for first time in a FUCKING ROCK IN RIO 3 2001 BRAVE NEW WORLD TOUR. THAT WAS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE
I remember getting on a bus with a school mate going to see the Fear of the Dark tour in Birmingham, and we were by far the youngest fans on the bus. Who would have thought nearly 30 years on, I'm now that old geezer and there are new generations of fans popping up all the time. I met Bruce in Nottingham one time briefly and got to shake his hand (back when he was doing his solo material), very amiable chap. I also know someone who is an amateur pilot and bumped into him at an airport maybe 3 or 4 years back in France. He was a big Maiden fan, but they spent 30 minutes talking nothing but planes.
Currently, half way through his book. Reading the part, where he just "quits" iron maiden cuz he 's bored with it and wants to do his own thing. Then he goes and does a concert in Yugoslavia with his own band, where there's currently a war going on. Amazing. He gave Iron Maiden a shot of new energy. Not just his singing, but his songwriting. Up until then, it was all the band leader(bassist, Steve Harris) his band and his songs. This also reminds me of Rick Springfield touring in Vietnam during the war with his Aussie band.
GodXeria for me the “creator of the universe” would be either Steve Albini (produced Neurosis, fav band of all time) or Chuck Schuldiner (vocalist/guitarist of Death). And also, I’ve never quite been a huge Maiden fan, more on the Priest side myself. But hey, here’s to the future of metal! Cheers!
I am so happy for this video. To me Bruce Dickinson is the best example on how a true professional singer should be. I always admire how incredibly successful he is. The most incredible thing to me is how he became a pilot of the biggest commercial planes out there. Wow thats just amazing Bruce. Also he is an inspiration to me to stay away from drugs, this guy believe it or not with all the money he has and all the fame and the environment he is surrounded all the time he managed to never touch drugs, I believe thats why he is so successful and so professional. I truly admire you Bruce and would love to have 5 minutes with you in person just to tell you that. Also I need to point out that all Iron Maiden members to me are just as professionals and great examples of how a true band should be. Up The Irons. One of the most amazing and enduring bands on earth.
Bruce, I just want to thank you for your great book of life. I believe that everything what happens to us is written and must happen. So I thank God for you also for Steve, Adrian and Dave and entire Iron Maiden. Your music has been accompaning me whole my life. Greetings from Poznań. Ps. That wedding took place in dancing club "Adria". I was 11.
Graham, Bruce, what a dialogue! I am not sure whose contribution I appreciate the most, if required to make a choise. Awesome stuff from a much appreciated interviewer interviewing one of my childhood/youth idols!
"The purpose of growing into eldership is to stay healthy. By now, if you're of age, should be fortunately established with good finances. The rest is downhill. Keeping yourself healthy is the main objective because one doesn't want to live a life of pain/in pain. Right?"
I very much like Bruce... doesn't come across like a big 'rock star'. Just a decent, down to earth chap, despite who he is, his talents, and all he's achieved.
I am a late comer to the Iron Maiden fandom. I just went to see them at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, MA. Kick ass show! I wish I went to see them in the 80s.
homebound 1968 I saw them in 85 at The Springfield Civic Center. World Slavery Tour. That too was a kick ass show! I wish I just went and saw them in Mansfield. Up the irons!!

I agree. At the rate he's going, he may just be immortal and live forever! Bruce is phenomenal!!
and he's a graduate in history and a doctor in music too
@@Floppy_Bacon sadly no, we all die, its a bummer
Very good speech! Perfectly sums Bruce up.
I expect a person who achieved all this to talk like that. Cannot imagine anyone who achieved this and talks like a gangsta rapper.
Agreed they defenitely need to be in there. Same with Judas Priest.
Sathanas they didn't make Hollywood Jews enough money I guess
No iron maiden, judas priest, or Dio they lost credibility a long time ago
Rice Waster Aleks I hope you're joking because if not, you obviously have no clue what you're talking about. Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Dio inspired so many bands from today... they're legends!

A 19.5 minute video of Bruce Dickinson describing his time in Iron Maiden? Thank You Loudwire!! 🙂
UP THE IRONS!!!! 🤘
Loud wire is so good to us. They get some of the most famous people in rock & metal history
I highly recommend the Audiobook of "What Does This Button Do?" BD narration/reading of it is absolutely hysterical.

How has Bruce not been Knighted already? The man is a Legend along with the rest of the Band.
Jimmy Savile got knighted. If they dont knight you it's maybe a good sign
Amen to that. Petition it, It will come.

Martin (the producer of the Number of The Beast album) sadly passed away in August 2020, he was 71. R.I.P
Very SAD
Bruce, I just want to thank you for your great book of life. I believe that everything what happens to us is written and must happen. So I thank God for you also for Steve, Adrian and Dave and entire Iron Maiden. Your music has been accompaning me whole my life. Greetings from Poznań.
Ps. That wedding took place in dancing club "Adria". I was 11.
Him and Dio are the best metal singers ever. It’s like metal opera. So epic...

Graham, Bruce, what a dialogue! I am not sure whose contribution I appreciate the most, if required to make a choise. Awesome stuff from a much appreciated interviewer interviewing one of my childhood/youth idols!
Always so professional interviews. I'm a huge fan of Loudwire.
Truly a metal god thanks Bruce for being part of one of the greatest metal bands in the world
"The purpose of growing into eldership is to stay healthy. By now, if you're of age, should be fortunately established with good finances. The rest is downhill. Keeping yourself healthy is the main objective because one doesn't want to live a life of pain/in pain. Right?"
What a amazing person. So accomplished, talented and humble. His backlog of work helped define the genre.
I've met Bruce several times . A very talented man . Airplane mad . . And a nice guy .
I very much like Bruce... doesn't come across like a big 'rock star'. Just a decent, down to earth chap, despite who he is, his talents, and all he's achieved.
What a Legend! best voice in Heavy Metal! God Bless this man.
Love it since 1980.
Guy looks great! What an amazing career and life.
Thanks for the interview. Amazing! Bruce is a legend
The interviewer did a pretty good job. Very professional!
Greatest song by Bruce Dickinson (for me) - ACCIDENT OF BIRTH. Just...wow!
Great interview thanks.
Met Dicko a couple of times. Top guy! Very friendly and interesting to chat with.
Great Scott! Articulate, erudite and amusing. Great pipes too!

I like Graham's interviews
I seen iron maiden way back in 1980 in Lakeland FL. Great concert
