I worked for Sanctuary Music at this time in the Production Dept. This was the 1st big tour I helped put together. My boss Teresa and I were office based, and liased with Dickie Bell the Production Manager for Maiden and Bill Barclay, I think, was the Tour Manager. They were a great bunch to work for. I worked there for another ten yrs and travelled all over the world on Maiden related work, and stuff for the other bands that were managed there. Good times.
@@moreblack It was very weird! We knew Bruce had left the band weeks before it was announced. Then someone had the bright idea to run a competition to replace Bruce. Basically people sent in a demo of then singing and the production dept, Teresa, myself, and Dickie Bell had to sit and listen to each and every tape and narrow it down to about 20 of the best. We had to do this whilst still putting tours together for the other bands. So when we had the big meeting to let us know whom Rod and Andy (Maidens Mangers), and Steve Harris had chosen, we were stunned to hear Blaze was the replacement, not one of the entrants, and there was a couple of really good guys that would have been great. I feel that Blaze never really felt comfortable in Maiden. It was a bad choice and he knew it! He couldnt sing many of the regular hit songs live, he was not used to performing in front of that size of crowd, and the list went on. He was a super nice guy though, just was not a natural rock star. I remember he freaked out in Japan (alot of musicians have a real shock in Japan. @108242868350192216202 Well, I think it's due to the lack of high points. Except for teh title track, we don't get any of those true Maiden-epics. We get many songs that are pretty good, and I would say No Prayer is more consistant in quality compared to Fear Of The Dark. That album had more masterpieces, but also consisted of many songs which were absolutely terrible 😅
That's maybe it, but Tailgunner, the title track and Bring Your Daughter are classics imo. Holy Smoke has really grown on me since it first came out and enjoy the deeper cuts on the album too. I think it's the last great Maiden album, Fear... has it's moments but there is too much filler on there. I also have a soft spot for No Prayer... as they played Hull City Hall on this tour, something that will never happen again!
@@MichaelHolmgaard that is exactly how I feel. I have always thought that No Prayer For The Dying was a better and more consistent album than Fear Of The Dark, but Fear Of The Dark has a few songs on it that I think are better than anything on No Prayer For The Dying album. Especially the title track Fear Of The Dark and Afraid To Shoot Strangers.
I loved this album, i was 16 when it came out, great memories, wish I could have been working for them., or meet them just one time. My favorite band on earth and always will be. Thank you IRON MAIDEN you guys got me through alot of down times feing bummed.
I was there (Newcastle), a 14 year old lad somewhere near the front... Went to see them the next evening as well in Edinburgh at the Playhouse. Wolfsbane were support, I seem to remember Newcastle got the Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter chant whereas Edinburgh didn't - Bruce commented something like "ahh well at least Newcastle got it last night" lol. Also seen them at Whitley Bay for Seventh Son tour... They definitely went back to basics on this tour but it was good, very, very good. Seem to remember Newcastle went nuts for Wolfsbane, Edinburgh didn't. They just didn't seem to get the band at all. My mate and I were going nuts to Wolfsbane in Edinburgh, something noted by Blaze I think with a big thumbs up!
There are some fans that consider No Prayer For The Dying album the worst Maiden album but I have always loved this album. It came out when I was in middle school and I remember watching videos for Holy Smoke , Tailgunner, and Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. No Prayer For The Dying album is a better album than Fear Of The Dark. I only love half of that album while I love all of No Prayer For The Dying album.
*Fear of the Dark is a better overall album in all aspects, the only really bad song on it was From here to eternity... correction: add The Apparition to the list of forgettable songs... ain't too fond of Wasting Love either, but it ain't worse then before mentioned songs.. half of the songs on No Prayer sounded like it should have been on a Dickinson solo album (Tattooed Millionaire- hard rock style..)
the only track on fear of the dark I really like is Weekend Warrior - which is a track that seems to be a lot of people's least favourite on that album!
@@joddeurter2448 that is how I feel about the Fear Of The Dark album. That half of the songs from it sound like they could have been on Tattoo Millionaire. Fear Of The Dark is the only Iron Maiden album that I can't get into all the way. I really love Be Quick Or Be Dead, Afraid To Shoot Strangers, and the title track Fear Of The Dark alot though.
I opened for them in October 92. After our soundcheck I walked behind that wall of Marshall's & was surprised to find that none of them were plugged in !

Yeah they should play stuff off it, I mean surely one or two classics can make room for songs like No Prayer For The Dying or Public Enema Number One for one tour, can't they.
@Flat Earth Florida Nice one! Wish I was born earlier, my first time was during the Dance of Death tour in 2003. I have seen them nine times in total. Btw, Bring Your Daughter was actually played in 2003, you can search if you want.
They had a great thing going with Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son, to drop that momentum was extremely disappointing. It's why Adrian left. And it's not even as good as Killers, the album they seemingly were trying to emulate here.
@@okagron they were trying to emulate somewhere in time and seventh son because they weren’t happy with them. and i agree it isn’t as good as anything they did in the 80s, however i don’t think it’s disappointing.
Great tour - I went to 3 shows in Canada. This theatre in Dublin looked great, I’ve never seen the side PA on stage facing that way, must have been Loud stage volume when they had to do that.
A. Japanese translation of "Number of the Beast" is "Number of the Best" at 10:00. B. Nicko McBrain interestingly gives a shoutout to Wolfsbane & Blaze Bayley at 12:52 who later becomes Maiden's next lead singer. C. Bruce Dickinson describes how he wrote "Tattooed Millionaire" at 15:10.
Wow, over Piece of Mind? Thats 1 of my favorites. Number of the Beast i'm burned out over that album so its 1 of my least favorites now. Virtual XI i actually love. Basically i'm tired of hearing the classics they always play live like Run to the Hills, Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be thy Name, Iron Maiden, Fear of the Dark, the Trooper. Mainly those songs. I still love all Maiden stuff just need a major break from those songs. They need to change up their setlist badly.

Thanks very much !! This part of Iron maiden is very rare on vidéo .....................Nicko is absoloutly crazy guy :) ..............And at 9' Bruce seems to trueman show ..................Fucking band foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrr up the Iron
I think I saw them twice on this tour...one of the times was in Bakersfield Ca, and Anthrax was on the Persistence of Time tour opening for Maiden...Maiden got started wayyy late because Bruce was stuck in a snowstorm coming from LA...yes a snowstorm!! Joey Beladonna almost had to come on stage and play with Maiden for that show...crazy!!
This was the first tour I saw them… it was disappointing that Adrian was gone and they didn’t do the big production…. but Janick was a breath of fresh air kinda, he was on fire and had a point to prove….. and he kinda looked like Dennis Stratton, so it was like seeing them in the beginning
I agree with you. Janick has helped write many great Iron Maiden songs throughout his years in Iron Maiden such as Ghost Of The Navigator, Dance Of Death, The Legacy, and Book Of Souls. He is a big part of the writing process. He was not just given a free ride to the greatest band ever. He has proved himself worthy of being in the band with every album he has played on.
Wouldn't most people say that Blaze was the worst thing to happen?... Why is he less bad than Janick all of a sudden?... Not that I hated his presence as much as most, because he was good on the two albums he did (and terrible live). But Janick contributed a LOT more to Maiden's existence. - Sure, he might not be as neat and tasteful as a player, but he kept the energy up while Adrian was gone, and contributed to songs as well. - Had he not been there, what boring sod could we have gotten instead?... Perhaps there were some good suitable players out there, but maybe the energy or personality wouldn't have been right. - You can't in all fairness say "the worst thing that happened" when he helped the band last as long as they did. - If he was actually bad for the band, then it might not have existed anymore.
I love the title track, one of my favourite Maiden songs, but the album was a step backwards. It was the first Maiden album that I had the pleasure and excitement of rushing out on release day and buying (I got into them after 7th Son had been released, but it was actually through a friend at high school giving me a copy of Powerslave) and I was disappointed. The sound they got from Barnyard Studios was lack lustre, particularly the drums, Adrian had left (and Janick is a very messy soloist) and after what they did with 7th Son.. still, for myself, it's better than the X Factor and Virtual XI.
I can remember that moment back in time too ...... great expectations and such a big disappointment , especially in the subject of solos .... unfortunately when Martin Birch stopped producing their albums it got even worse . Up to Fear of the Dark fortunately songs were stil good but after it Maiden started to compose in many cases like quite amateur band . Fortunately we can still listen to their golden era masterpieces The Number , Piece , Powerslave , Somewhere and above all Seventh Son .....metal benchmarks .
Vocally Bruce is on 🔥, this is some of the best I've heard from him in Maiden. That said, the body language from all of them is terrible. I think Adrian leaving must have torn them apart and you almost feel like Dave and Steve hadn't fully embraced Gers at this point as you'd have Murray and Harris on one side and Bruce and Jannick on the other. Dark days for Maiden. Makes their resurgence today all the more amazing.
I don't want to hurts anybodys feelings but here is my opinion, this is not the best time period for his voice, critics in the 90s complained about his voice changed for this record if you compare it with how he sounded in the 80s. Being that said, 90s Bruce sounds way better than lots of singers nowadays.
@@Javier-qk7ms to be fair Bruce suffered badly on the Somewhere in Time tour 86-87 and his voice was gradually getting better over the next 2 album/tours. Nowadays he is singing his socks off! The biggest comparison I can think of in terms of control and high notes is Geoff Tate. In the 80s he was seriously giving Bruce a run for his money but now he cant sing for shit!
Saw them twice on this tour almost got the sack from work when I went to Stoke Hanley hall thinking about it now I wished they had of done it was a shit night shift job lol up the Irons
People are going to hate on this period, on the album, on Janick, on whatever. That's what freedom of speech is for. I'm sure many people said similar things when Den Stratton was replaced by H and when Bruce took over from Paul... But for my money, 90-98 is still my favourite period of the band - visually and sound-wise. Maybe I just hate all that 80s ****ing Spandex, but whatever. Choose your favourite Maiden era and crank the volume ;-)
Say what you will about this era, but the band looks so much better performing with jeans, t shirts, and leather jackets than everything else they’ve worn on stage. So much more metal, wish they would’ve dressed like that back in the 80s to be honest. That’s my comment on fashion for the month
I believe anyone that likes Janick is younger where they got into them with this album first. If you were a fan from 80-88 I believe we grew up hearing and watching Dave and Adrian. This is why Janick was difficult to swallow. Sloppy play especially following a precise perfectionist such as Adrian.
I saw every show from beast with scorpions.. thru fear of the dark with anthrax... And the best show of them was by far somewhere on.tour. my favorite show.. definetly beast.. they played the fuck.out if that show... Bruce was out to prove himself with them and did an excellent job. Throw in scorps blackout and that was one kick ass fuckin show
idk what these dudes ^ are smoking. depending on the day, i almost like npftd more than fotd. theyre both really good though, with maybe only one or two songs on each that i could do without.
First Maiden tour I got to witness as a kid. Of course I had watched Live after Death a thousand times. Of course the show I finally get to see after years of begging mom Maiden decides to do the most basic stage show in ALL of maiden history period. My whole life has been this way. A day late and a dollar short. I'm destined to miss everything great and only see mediocrity. Don't get me wrong maiden is always great. But if you asked a million maiden fans if they could go back in time and see any maiden show I'm betting not 1 person would say I'd go back to 1990 and watch the No Prayer On the Road tour.
I was very very lucky and the first gig I ever went to was the World Slavery Tour in Sept 1984 at the Glasgow Apollo and it was unbelievable. I think it's the last great Maiden album, Fear... has it's moments but there is too much filler on there. I also have a soft spot for No Prayer... as they played Hull City Hall on this tour, something that will never happen again!
"Fates Warning" is a great song off the album as well, the whole album is fantastic.
Forgot about this thanx for bringing back good memories o the auld play house.
The Playhouse gig was my first ever gig.
Nicko wearing King Diamond T-shirt :D
He's also wearing a Vinnie Vincent Invasion shirt at one point - fucking awful band!
Great... by the way, perhaps King Diamond was in tour with Maiden, supporting the album "The Eye" released in 1990 as well.
@@alessio4832nope. Vinny vincent.
Thanks for uploading this ;)
Great Davey solo in Hallowed. Never heard him pull off a version like that before.
I was there in Belfast and got my ears blasted off.
I was going to see them in Toronto on this tour,it would have been my first time but I couldn't make it. I've seen them 5 times since. Up the irons!
I was there as well. Great memories.
*Fear of the Dark is a better overall album in all aspects, the only really bad song on it was From here to eternity... correction: add The Apparition to the list of forgettable songs... ain't too fond of Wasting Love either, but it ain't worse then before mentioned songs.. half of the songs on No Prayer sounded like it should have been on a Dickinson solo album (Tattooed Millionaire- hard rock style..)
the only track on fear of the dark I really like is Weekend Warrior - which is a track that seems to be a lot of people's least favourite on that album!
same here. It's the first Maiden album I bought when it was new. I like it better than Fear as well, more concise.
@@joddeurter2448 that is how I feel about the Fear Of The Dark album. That half of the songs from it sound like they could have been on Tattoo Millionaire. Fear Of The Dark is the only Iron Maiden album that I can't get into all the way. I like only about five songs from it and I have listened to the album many times since it came out and it just won't grow on me. I really love Be Quick Or Be Dead, Afraid To Shoot Strangers, and the title track Fear Of The Dark alot though.
@@themadmattster9647 I got into Iron Maiden around 1988, so No Prayer For The Dying is the first album I got when it was new also.
such a shame there is no live album from this and somewhere in time tour
Life change even every human been has its golden years. But at the end good and bad moments are part of a great life.
Bruce chante merveilleusement dans ce live, comme toujours d'ailleurs :)
Public enema no1 is one of my fav songs... a very underrated masterpiece.
Top three songs for me are Hooka in you, Assassin, and Fates Warning.
Eu gosto desse álbum mesmo ele sendo mais simplista que os outros.
Niko wearing a King Diamond "Abigail" shirt, badass.
I opened for them in October 92. After our soundcheck I walked behind that wall of Marshall's & was surprised to find that none of them were plugged in !
Which band did you play in?
@woutwout8398 A band from New Zealand called The Nod ..At the time We had an album out that did well for us called 'Thirsty Work' ..there's video of us playing at the Concert on here & Tracks from the album are on Spotify & iTunes on a 'Best of ' compilation album ..We released 3 albums between 89 & 93.
Как же прекрасно когда люди получают удовольствие от музыки, а не от того, что снимут на свой телефон что-то, чтобы выложить потом в соцсетях ..
When you're the frontman of a Rockband and don't wanna get recognized... > 9:01
I just came across this - I was at the Newcastle show and had no idea this footage existed, amazing to see after all these years
I just found it too. It’s great footage. 🤘
Bruce's voice sounds great on these live performances (as well as the rest of the band!)
i think no prayer is a solid album all the way through and it’s a shame the us fans are too picky to appreciate it
Yeah they should play stuff off it, I mean surely one or two classics can make room for songs like No Prayer For The Dying or Public Enema Number One for one tour, can't they.
@Flat Earth Florida Nice one! Wish I was born earlier, my first time was during the Dance of Death tour in 2003. I have seen them nine times in total.
Btw, Bring Your Daughter was actually played in 2003, you can search if you want.
I see why Adrian left..
God damn love this album !!
The guys are so smart being able to interpret Japanese! Thats why they are my heros
bayknight20 lol they had a translator man
Saw this tour at The Royal Court in Liverpool. Wolfsbane supporting.
Cire Stamey woo
Yeah, Wolsbane were the support act on this tour.
no prayer is such an underrated album
Tyreek Murillo I agree 200 %. It’s not their worst album, I prefer it way more than Virtual XI and even more than Piece of Mind 😂
They need to change up their setlist badly.
underrated? don't you mean the worst album? Yes, it is for sure. Followed by Virtual X.
Worked for the Rochester NY bus station back then and got a couple of the Iron Maiden bus posters they had and decorated my apartment with them, 19 years old and absolutely no clue about life. Long live the Irons!!!
RIP Paul. Those first two albums were my favorite!
That version of HBTN is epic! So much energy! Up the Irons!!!!!!
Thanks very much !! This part of Iron maiden is very rare on vidéo .....................Nicko is absoloutly crazy guy :) ..............And at 9' Bruce seems to trueman show ..................Fucking band foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrr up the Iron
23:30 "and I'd like to see you put that on Japanese television"
They did Dickie. The madlads did it.
So, Walter White once had a long hair! 😂
Excelente registro, esta gira merecía un DVD oficial!!
These subtitles are making it more aesthetic
27 years of Janick...I'm glad they kept him
Janick is the worst thing to happen to Maiden. Why they keep him I'll never know
dt jesus excuse me bitch, explain to me how
I agree with you.
@@dtjesus101 so petty. Just enjoy the music.
First I saw the band on stage, in Germany. Bruce was sick and some dates were cancelled.
Fortunately we can still listen to their golden era masterpieces
The Number , Piece , Powerslave , Somewhere and above all Seventh Son .....metal benchmarks .
MrDraven37 I like X Factor, but virtual X1, yeah Naa
Never like Janick. He never has fit the band.
haha Janick reminded me of Dennis Sratton in those days.
Bruce checking his notes, 6.48. ha
ha. love it.
I concur. I noticed that too, about their body language.
Great record
thanks🤘
Saw them twice on this tour almost got the sack from work when I went to Stoke Hanley hall thinking about it now I wished they had of done it was a shit night shift job lol up the Irons
Meu sonho seria ir em um show de iron maiden e king diamond
People are going to hate on this period, on the album, on Janick, on whatever. That's what freedom of speech is for. I'm sure many people said similar things when Den Stratton was replaced by H and when Bruce took over from Paul... But for my money, 90-98 is still my favourite period of the band - visually and sound-wise. Maybe I just hate all that 80s ****ing Spandex, but whatever. Choose your favourite Maiden era and crank the volume ;-)
Are you kidding me? Musically this is their worst period
Say what you will about this era, but the band looks so much better performing with jeans, t shirts, and leather jackets than everything else they’ve worn on stage. So much more metal, wish they would’ve dressed like that back in the 80s to be honest. That’s my comment on fashion for the month
You can thank Janick Gers for that :) !
Very sad day when Adrian left the band..... :-(
🤘best band 🤘
Congrads n Happy Maiden Birthday "1990"
No Prayer For The Dieing
Up The Irons\m/❤
Janick is fantastic. I am glad he is into maiden.
too bad he dances like a poser, not needed
I believe anyone that likes Janick is younger where they got into them with this album first. If you were a fan from 80-88 I believe we grew up hearing and watching Dave and Adrian. This is why Janick was difficult to swallow. Sloppy play especially following a precise perfectionist such as Adrian.
13.00 Nicko talking about Wolfbane. Brilliant!
I saw every show from beast with scorpions.. thru fear of the dark with anthrax... And the best show of them was by far somewhere on.tour. my favorite show.. definetly beast.. they played the fuck.out if that show... Bruce was out to prove himself with them and did an excellent job. Throw in scorps blackout and that was one kick ass fuckin show
9:20 Davey pretending he understands Japanese
Actually, he's listening to the question in English. Japanese was fixed in the edition.
@@ilpezkato Aw OK......he is still cute ☺
@@iadoredavey Ahhh, girls, girls...There is no doubt about that. Say no more :-))
weirdly enough No Prayer For Dying was one of the first IM songs I ever heard decades ago on some random mixtape with no track list
34:37 Janick killing solos since the 90’s
He is not obliged to be an Adrian's copycat.
Dude Nicko rocken and the King Diamond shirt goes hard
Saw them live in Torquay
8:15 Masa Ito!!!!! I just wonder how much of what Nicko said Masa understood.
No prayer wasn't stripped down. they just took the keyboards off. I like how Dave is with the program though.
Pra mim, sensacional época.
Great album
'Hollowed by thy name' hahahaha
need an recording of tour:)
Look at that beautiful red hat Bruce is wearing #MIMGA
Iron maiden understands Japanese, wow those interviews
No this was overdubbed in Japanese. The questions were in English.
"Hollowed by thy name".
29:50 Hollowed by thy name?
🤣
Respect.......
8:00 ahaha dave smoking XD
Am I the only one who thinks NPFTD is more enjoyable/livelier than FOTD?
They’re both mostly crap
idk what these dudes ^ are smoking. depending on the day, i almost like npftd more than fotd. theyre both really good though, with maybe only one or two songs on each that i could do without.
I was there in Belfast Kings Hall. Up the Irons.
My first time seeing Maiden at the age of 15.
That was me, a Scottish 14 year old, on a lifelong conversion to heavy metal. 🤘 They pulled the building down 9 months later, obviously knowing that no one could ever top that spectacle! 😎
