I really appreciate you showing more and more stuff for smaller birds and the more "common" varieties that people tend to have. I certainly love watching your macaw videos but sometimes it's hard to relate that to my smaller birds.
Made the parakeet mix and cockatiel mix, they love it. I am so glad I found these recipes for my birds. I want them to eat healthier. I will not be buying them anymore store bought food.
My lil birdy is 13 years old today, which means it's been 13 years I've been watching you. Thank you for all of your videos, your training guides are amazing but your training videos on YT and showing your masterclasses have been so beneficial to see real people learn from you. It's important to see other people's mistakes so you can learn from them. My little baby is only a good boy because of both of you. From the food guide to free flight I have been there through it all with you. From my heart and my birds sanity thank you for 13 years. ❤️
I wanted to drop a big thank you for the free bird care goodies you have on your website. They were really helpful for us. We took in a family members 19 year old yellow sided conure, with little previous knowledge of birds. The chop food has made a huge difference in his energy level and attitude. We are still feeding the pellets but he eats all the chops before pellet snacks. Thank you for all the knowledge you share here, it’s been insanely helpful for us.
Would love to see a Quaker version of this! My Quaker's diet is 95%+ seasonal chop but I still do offer some seed mixes (and other treats) but would love to make my own instead of buying premade.
One of my cockatiels is a rescue and we know he's at least 16 years old, I've had him for 5 of those years. He finds some of the seeds and pellets too hard to crack so was avoiding them. Now, before I give him his seed I've been giving it a light crush in a mortar and pestle which allows him to get to the larger seeds and the pellets. Looking forward to trying this mix next, will probably still do that little crush of the seed - better go - he wants me to peel him a grape!
I should try this! I already got my cockatiel to eat a bit of your seasonal mix (with grains and veggies) and he also eats pellets. But he still eats "store bought" seed mix so I suppose changing that is also a good idea.
Thank you so much for this video!! My family just got a Cockatiel and I’ve been researching your yt channel for anything and everything about them. If you have more cockatiel tips for taming and training or anything, etc, it is so appreciated! Thank you for what you’ve done to help educate people and love the birds in others homes too.
I use this with Ozzy my cockatiel I admit I was using your budgie mix for him before but he's only 18 months old. He loves this mix!! It was super easy to get him onto this mix. Chop he won't touch at all no matter what I try. He's on tops pellets with a freeze dried veg mix from a UK seller. Wish I could afford to get your freeze dried feeding system but as I'm in UK shipping is super expensive especially as Ozzy is super picky!!
Thank you Jamie. I have been watching your videos for several years, even before I got my Cockatiel. I have been using the clicker to train her, and she's very responsive, thanks to your videos. I have also been feeding her your Natural feeding system and pellets for a couple of years. So . . .How do I incorporate the seed mixture in with the natural feeding system (am feeding) and the pellets (pm feeding)? How much should she get? BTW - she free flies in my apartment and I'll never clip her wings!
I am absolutely adoring the new style of editing in these to add these funny moments and bloopers into the videos it makes it so much interesting for a more casual viewer like myself who watches your content more for the birds then for the actual training information as I don’t own a bird
I knew I saw Clyde on her a long time ago!! You were tripping me out with the new vids when I swore I saw this guy with his embarrassing tail on here already.
I've heard of clipping wings but I've never heard of clipping tails 😳 My boss is a wing clipper, she told me to regularly clip all the birds wings and I just ignored that Lol
Also remember that too many pellets in a small bird’s diet (cockatiel, budgies, etc) can cause kidney issues. So seed must always be a part of their diet but in limitation so that they don’t get fat.
Yes my bird eats pellets but I always give him a couple nutriberries so he gets some seed, I have a conure, still in the size range that amongst the peĺlets and veggies, i too imclude seed, small amount but it does matter♥️
About the same time you put up this video I took an adult cockatiel from my sisters home who is not aggressive the usual 'back off' hiss but he allows you to open the cage to feed and replenish his water. He has been on a bad seed diet mostly sunflower seeds(dear lord) he does not fly. I have had parrots and different kinds of birds growing up. From ring neck doves, budgies,African gray(still kickin😁) to cockatiels and even at one time a crow that was injured🤦 couldn't just leave it so I brought it home as always mom got pissed 😂 but he got better and off he went. Anywho I was like what kind of seed mix can I try to get him eating healthy and low and behold here you post this video😱 it's ment to be😁. I have a budgie as well who I got at 5 months, I've had her for 2 yrs now but I struggle with her eating habits she refuses veggies and almost all fruits except tangerines. Help! Lol I want her around forever!(as long as god is willing).
Thank you. I use this recipe for my cockatiel. How much seed mix should you be giving them per feeding? Also, Do u have a recipe for cockatiel chop? Can I use a parrot chop?
Haha Clyde is not afraid to flash that tail! What's up with non-GMO though? Literally everything you can buy has been modified in at least several ways, so I don't get the label-based filtration 🤔
She emphasizes organic, because birds are so sensitive and any kind of toxins can cause them to become sick or die - including pesticides. Organic seeds are less likely to have been grown with pesticides - at least not the toxic kind. When you shop organic you get “Non-GMO” along with organic, very often. I doubt they’d be able to put that label on there if it wasn’t at least non-GMO in some way. In any case, the emphasis is on organic. I have begun to use organic non-toxic, natural everything, and it makes a huge difference for me and my family, and that includes my birds. Sorry if that triggers some people. I had to kick my sister out of my house because she couldn’t stop using super toxic chemicals around my birds, and rolled her eyes when I told her that toxic chemicals can kill birds. She just didn’t care and wanted to be able to use highly toxic things around my birds. Even if you don’t respect your own body, please respect other peoples rights to not want to ingest chemicals, or have their pets lives be cut short by chemicals.
do you think you could go over why you chose the seeds you chose ? i can only imagine it's because it's less of the fat content of traditional seed mixes/seeds. i personally don't use much if any seed in my parrots diets, only as a treat, but i work at a bird store where the primary diets offered are traditional seed mixes or singular seeds for creating seed mixes. i'm always trying to figure out why/what each seed is used and what it adds to a diet. in my canaries/finches, there are many seeds that are used due to high fat content for seasons such as breeding, etc. (hemp, nyjer, thistle, canola) oats seem like a great protein source for molting, as the birds scarf it down like nothing else. is the goal with this mix to simply cut down on the fats ? i know cockatiels have a tendency to be extremely finicky with their food and can get a bit overweight or have liver issues frequently. do you think there's such a thing as too much protein ? (i genuinely do not know !)
Do you have any recipes for Poicephalus parrots? I have a senegal and I feed him a mix of seeds, veggies and pellets, but finding the right seed mix is really difficult.
I bought your natural feeding system and now after seeing this I have a question. I noticed in the natural feeding system you mention that seeds and things are more for training. Do the veggies and then pellets at night. Would this replace the pellets? When would you incorporate this into the diet for a cockatiel? I bring home a baby cockatiel in about 5 weeks and trying to get all of my ducks in a row before! Thanks!
Hi this video is awesome 👌 I'm wondering if these seeds and oats and other things are sold special for birds or if I could find them in the house or at the supermarket Thanks ❤
Thank you for this! Just curious, why is the small bird seed mix not good for cockatiels? Is it a seed size issue? Or is it a nutritional issue? I’m still working on getting my guy to eat the SFS, because he’s a seed junkie. He does nibbles on your pellets, but If I could get him to this mix as well, that might help…. EDIT: Oh, and I tried the plain quinoa trick. My guy is super stubborn. He hates quinoa, no matter the color. I’ve tried hiding it, and pressing it into ‘sticky’ foods. He will even pick it out and shove it aside. And he won’t touch the cooked version. 😆 Fortunately the human part of the family love it.
It is related to the size of the bird. While budgies are capable of biting into the larger grains they will usually choose not to and opt for the smaller seeds because it’s easier. Feel free to add the grains if your small bird wants them. Cockatiels can certainly eat the budgie mix but as larger birds they don’t struggle with grains and you should include them. So if you use blueberries mix add some cockatiels size grains to it for your cockatiel.
Awesome, thank you for the answer and suggestion. I was feeling a bit frustrated since he doesn’t like the smaller seeds, but this makes me feel a bit better. As long as he’s not missing out nutritionally, I won’t panic. He does love the hemp seed, oats & millet, and he’ll eat buckwheat, so I’ll use those to move him to the other grains. Hopefully he’ll switch to those easier. 😊👍🏼
That’s a lot of different types of oats. Also remember to thoroughly wash your mix before feeding it to your bird because dry grains like this tend to have natural pesticides on them (like saponin, found on quinoa). Which is the reason why humans tend to cook, rinse, or sprout these grains before eating them.
Bonjour est ce que vous livrez en France vos produits ???? Je regarde vos vidéos , je lis les sous titres . Merci pour votre réponse. Et merci pour vos vidéos, Marisa de France
Hi, can i ask which kind of seed mix would suit lovebirds better? We are currently runing out of our seed mix and i would love to improve it. I was thinking the Blueberry's seed mix, because they are on the smaller side, but they don't seem to be into the smallest seeds that much (i have flax seeds in our current seed mix and they always leave them out, even though i give them only the amount they eat right away). Thank you♥️

So my cockatiel is already on your SFS and pellets with a little bit of the budgie seed mix sprinkled on the SFS. Should I be offering this too? If so...how much?
What if I'm just feeding SFS, plus a little of Blueberry's seed (now I will be transitioning to this mix). Not feeding pellets as I don't have a decent one available. What amount would you recommend for my single cockateil "Silver", would the amounts change if molting? Gotta go i should be hanging out with Silver before bed.
After watching this video and not being able to get the freeze dried seasonal product from your website, i went on the hunt for all of this stuff. I was only able to find about half of the products in store, but even so, she LOVES it! I did add Organic Unsweetened Coconut Flakes as she loves coconut and it has no added sugars and less than 1grm of natural sugar. Is this acceptable? Also, any idea when the freeze dried seasonal feeding system will be back in stock?
Hi. Have a couple of questions. Is there a veggie and greens recipe for cockatiels? And would I mix it with the seed recipe or give separate? How often to I feed the seed recipe and veggie recipe? Thank you 😊
Hi Jamie, I have two cockatiels and they are females and two female green cheek conures. For this seed mix, do you feed it dry or soak it overnight. My cockatiels preen like that too and there is a lot of feather dust😅
Hi am from India, can you please suggest me a good cocktail diet, they eat seed mix that I bought from Amazon & some veggies like beans, asparagus bean & water spinach.
Can the small birds ie budgies/cockatiels live on just your seasonal feeding system and pellets or do they need more seeds in their diet? Is this mix just a conversion tool to get them off a bad seed mix and then eventually onto just sfs and pellets or do they still need this mix as well?
Is this seed and grain mix also for a gold forehead parakeet? Same size but still a parakeet for a side dish next to pellets? Of do you recommend anything else?
Are any of your seed mixes ok to feed ducks? I have a very picky duck and getting her to eat anything other than tomato is a challenge (note: no I don’t only feed her tomato)
I'm sure it's been asked but, I didn't see it in the comments. This homemade seed mix or pellets for cockatiels. What's better? (I could have sworn I watched a video that said pellets were better but maybe that was for larger parrots.)
Recommendations for a sun conure is our Seasonal Feeding System and our pellets. They do not need to be supplemented with the seeds like the smaller birds do.
@@BirdTricks ❤️When we rescued Gyro, she was on a full seed diet. I used your large pellets to make Birdy Bread to transition her away from seeds to veggies!! Tbh tho on bread, veggies & pellets she will lay eggs❤️
Thank you! This is sooooo helpful I am trying to improve my birds diet so this is fantastic! Have you ever thought of doing special tailored online classes targeting specific issues for bird lovers all over the world, I really hope you could since its difficult to have house visits when your in Australia! Love the work keep it up❤️
It is related to the size of the bird. While budgies and parrotlets are capable of biting into the larger grains they will usually choose not to and opt for the smaller seeds because it’s easier. Feel free to add the grains if your small bird wants them. Parrotlets can certainly eat the budgie mix but they should be capable of also eating the grains and you should include them. Hi Jaime. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️. Can I use this same seed mix for a sun conure. Try to transition my bird fro store bought to a healthy mix.
Recommendations for a sun conure is our Seasonal Feeding System and our pellets. They do not need to be supplemented with the seeds like the smaller birds do.
And this is probably a very silly question mean that you just said it’s different from the budgies to the cockatiels. But a lot of people have told me that I can use the same food I use for my Budgies for my Parrotlets and the same food for cocktails for my Conures, irn, and Quakers. They say that it’s more about the sizes of the birds than the species. again, forgive me if this is a very silly question, but is this information correct? Just want to make sure before I even think about feeding my Conures the same thing 😅
I live in Bangladesh and have a 3 month old cockatiel. He just got off formula. In the morning, I feed him whatever fresh vegetables I have available, chop them and store them for a week. It contains more of red lentil, chickpea, corn, carrot, cabbage, mint, corriandar etc. (1) I only feed him twice a day, is that okay? He gets hungry around 2pm but I feed him about an hour later for dinner. (2) Can I feed him the same thing as in the morning? I give him the only available seed mix (black white and red millet, sunflower, saflower seed, and nothing much). I'm lost here, we don't have pellets available either. Affordable seed I can add is wheat but I don't have easy/no access to other ingredients :(
Hi SSS I remember Jamie saying for the first year of there lives they NEED to have food available 24/7 all day long because they are babies. After that first year then you can start them on the twice a day routine for food. But you must weigh them to make sure they are getting enough food. I hope Jamie and her husband see this post to help you long even more. :)
I recommend using these as foraging tools or for training. On days you don't train you could add them to the regular diet but foraging would be the recommend way to feed it so they are still working for the seed.
my 'tiel does not like wheat berries lol... he won't even touch him in his old age. maybe i'll give your recipe a try to see what else he may eat. he looves millet the most.
Just to clarify, for cockatiels this replaces the seasonal feeding system you normally offer? Is it one or the other, or is the seasonal one not as recommended? (I hope that makes sense)
It is related to the size of the bird. While budgies and other small birds such as linnies and lovebirds are capable of biting into the larger grains they will usually choose not to and opt for the smaller seeds because it’s easier. Feel free to add the grains if your small bird wants them.
I feed my cockatiel your seasonal feeding system in the morning and top's organic parrot pellet for his dinner. Would it be better to give him your seed/grain mix instead of the pellets?
Not instead of but in addition to. I recommend 45% SFS, 45% pellets and 10% homemade seed mix. The seed can be offered in foraging or through training.
Recommendations for an IRN is our Seasonal Feeding System and our pellets. They do not need to be supplemented with the seeds like the smaller birds do.
had been feeding my cockatiels your other seed mix along with the seasonal feeding system and a high quality cold pressed veg pellet but will transition them to this mix.
It is related to the size of the bird. While budgies are capable of biting into the larger grains they will usually choose not to and opt for the smaller seeds because it’s easier. Is this seed mix suitable for Conures
That’s a lot of different types of oats.

I recommend 45% SFS, 45% pellets and 10% cockatiel seed mix. The seed mix can be used for foraging or training.
Thank you
I’m gonna try this!! Thank you:)
May I know if I can use this mix for my lovebirds? Or I should use the one for blueberry?
Hi. Have a couple of questions. Is there a veggie and greens recipe for cockatiels? And would I mix it with the seed recipe or give separate? How often to I feed the seed recipe and veggie recipe? Thank you 😊
I didn’t realize this was the new cockatiel you’ve had him for a whileeee then
Bird blizzard🌨️
Would you soak the mix to sprout it or no?
Is this appropriate for peace faced lovebirds too?
Can this seed mix also for senegal or Meyers parrot? Or better to sprout this seeds? Do you ve also a video for a parrot mix?
Love the vid!
where can i buy all of the ingredients from I'm in the NY State
my fellow hobbies follow you on youtube. I'm from Indonesia, I love birds
Are any of your seed mixes ok to feed ducks? I have a very picky duck and getting her to eat anything other than tomato is a challenge (note: no I don’t only feed her tomato)
Thank you👍🏼
The wheat berries what variety are they? Hard red winter wheat? Hard white wheat? Hard red spring wheat? Soft white wheat? Or Einkorn or Kamut?
I just lost my 3 Year old Cockatiel to Macrorhabdiose, my Budgie was calling your Cockatiel in the Video hearing him.
Cockatiels
Love your vids!
So hard to find a lot of these ingredients in Canada. No luck with wheat berries, hulled barley, oat groats, rye flakes, or rye berries 😔
Do you have a good mix for a Indian ringneck?
I'm sure it's been asked but, I didn't see it in the comments. This homemade seed mix or pellets for cockatiels. What's better? (I could have sworn I watched a video that said pellets were better but maybe that was for larger parrots.)
Can I use this mix for my green cheek conure?
COOL!!! Now how about a Sun Conure Mix❤️
Love the work keep it up❤️
They do video consults over the Internet, if that would help you.
@@PonderingStudent that’s interesting I’ll have to look into that
Jamie, can a Parrotlet eat this mix? Much appreciated. Nicky
So if you use blueberries mix add some cockatiels size grains to it for your parrotlet.
@@BirdTricks thank you so much💕💕
And this is probably a very silly question mean that you just said it’s different from the budgies to the cockatiels. But a lot of people have told me that I can use the same food I use for my Budgies for my Parrotlets
and the same food for cocktails for my Conures, irn, and Quakers. They say that it’s more about the sizes of the birds than the species.
again, forgive me if this is a very silly question, but is this information correct?
Just want to make sure before I even think about feeding my Conures the same thing 😅
Do you have a recipe for a dove seed mix?
@@ruby7741 thank you so much for your reply. I didn't know that! thanks again
So do you add this mixture in with veggies and greens or give greens in a separate bowl?
I recommend using these as foraging tools or for training. On days you don't train you could add them to the regular diet but foraging would be the recommend way to feed it so they are still working for the seed.
Would this seed mix be fed in place of a high quality healthy pellet or along side?
I recommend 45% Seasonal Feeding System, 45% Our organic pellets and 10% of this seed mix.
my 'tiel does not like wheat berries lol... he won't even touch him in his old age. maybe i'll give your recipe a try to see what else he may eat. he looves millet the most.
Just to clarify, for cockatiels this replaces the seasonal feeding system you normally offer? Is it one or the other, or is the seasonal one not as recommended? (I hope that makes sense)
I’m pretty sure the seasonal feeding system is for breakfast and the seed/grain mix for dinner
my cockatiels came to me on only sunflower seeds as a diet but they finally began to
eat vegetables
Would you recommend this mix or the Blueberry mix for lovebirds and linnies? That's what' i've got and they're very curious to know!
@@BirdTricks so do you mean mixing all (SFS, pellets and the grain mix) together as a whole? :) For both morning and dinner?
Would this seed mix be good for an IRN. My violet little buggar is super hyper.
No sunflower seed?
Should a cockatiel's diet be consistent with your parrots (70% veggies and 30% seed mix/pellets), only a seed mix or only pellets?
I recommend 45% Seasonal Feeding System, 45% our organic pellets and 10% this cockatiel seed mix.
@@BirdTricks Thanks a lot for the response! It was very helpful ♥
Also for indian ringneck’s?
You can’t use the Budgie mix for Cockatiels but can you use the Cockatiel mix for Budgies?
It is related to the size of the bird. While budgies are capable of biting into the larger grains they will usually choose not to and opt for the smaller seeds because it’s easier. Feel free to add the grains if your small bird wants them.
Cockatiels can certainly eat the budgie mix but as larger birds they don’t struggle with grains and you should include them. So if you use blueberries mix add some cockatiels size grains to it for your cockatiel.
@@BirdTricks Thank you so much for replying!
I’ll get some tops pellets (i can’t get yours 😢) and I make both mixes and mix them together with pellets! I’m sure my birds will love this!
What about Quaker parrot?
