So, I came back to this video 2 years later just to say that the Psychic is now the single most powerful class in Pathfinder, well above tier 1 classes, due to the Psy-tech discoveries. However, for this to be true requires a level 20 character. So at every level below that they are tier 2.
I never really got into the Occult classes, I greatly preferred Psionics. The Psychic seems to have elements of the Psion and Wilder. I should probably take another look at the occult classes; I might find something I really like.
Played recently a chaotic evil Magaambyan Telepath with enchant and transmutation focus, Psycodelia. The best part was to split hot tar, then force npc to lay down in it. The aura of madness added a extra evil flavour to the character.
actually you don't even need to have armor proeficiency, you dont have somatic components and all your skills are mind based and others are often are covered by your spells, and those spells, as well as most of your spells in general rarely need an attack roll. you can have a whole campaign without amor check penalty ever being relevant. So go ahead and cast in full plate. That being said, you really should invest in protection against fear as it prevent you to use spells with an emotion component. Maybe buying your friend some pearls of power ?
@@d6damage93 some psychic archetype get immunity to fear. Beyond that there is also metamagic for psychic spells, feats and rods. Psychic have calm emotions in their spell list and logical spell is only +1 and allow to cast without needing an emotion component. I really like the rebirth discipline, because he gets to change his spell list and learn spells you need on the fly. Many Psychic spells are will save mind-affecting tough. looking for spells and disciplines that give variety is a good idea. Especially if you use the full plate caster trick and only use saves spells.
@@d6damage93 I think there is very little information about the class. For instance, nowhere it says if a character could benefit from 2 shared seances. Because in a party of 5 lv2 mediums, they would all be doing +10 dmg with each atack or spell just from the boons. I ruled a char can benefit from 1 shared seance plus his own seance. But even in this case the class seems broken to me. The boons are ridiculously good, and the increasing bonus for the medium himself is crazy, at lv1 with spirit focus, I have +3to hit and +5to dmg with all atacks, makes every melee class obsolete. And it's totally versatile as well.

Pathfinder got distracted by classes with lots of silly abilities with a 'x times a day' and a tenuous link to other classes (usually barbarian). The psychic is classic bullshit in this style. Note how many times the statement 'Like a... (x class)' is during the video.
Pathfinder is vary meta but I still love it using thigs like Dreamscarred Press's Path of War and Phonics along with things like in the company of Dragon, Aberrations, Fiends and so on it can give a new way to play

There are definitely a lot of options. The Psychic is one of those classes you can play multiple times.

That's a good point. All psychic casters are vulnerable to emotional effects like fear.

I think Paizo was trying to do something different from the Psionic classes in 3.5.

Yeah, that did tend to happen a lot. They started to scrap the barrel a bit by the end of first edition. Hopefully, that doesn't happen for second.
