- Returning to the Music Scene I'm finishing out last month's War songs with the popularly requested "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again", but not just the version we all know and love, but all the versions.
Starting with the Tradtional Version, then moving on to the Civil War version, and finally to "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya", all by yours truly!
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
When Johnny comes marching home again
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We’ll give him a hearty welcome then
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The men will cheer and the boys will shout
The ladies they will all turn out
And we’ll all feel gay when
Johnny comes marching home.
[Verse 2]
The old church bell will peal with joy
Hurrah! Hurrah!
To welcome home our darling boy,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The village lads and lassies say
With roses they will strew the way,
And we’ll all feel gay when
Johnny comes marching home.
[Verse 3]
Get ready for the Jubilee,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We’ll give the hero three times three,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The laurel wreath is ready now
To place upon his loyal brow
And we’ll all feel gay when
Johnny comes marching home.
[Verse 4]
Let love and friendship on that day,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Their choicest pleasures then display,
Hurrah, hurrah!
And let each one perform some part,
To fill with joy the warrior’s heart,
And we’ll all feel gay when
Johnny comes marching home.
[Verse 5]
In eighteen hundred and sixty-one
Hurrah, hurrah!
That was when the war begun,
Hurrah, hurrah!
In eighteen hundred and sixty-two,
Both sides were falling to,
And we’ll all drink stone wine
Johnny comes marching home.
[Verse 6]
In eighteen hundred and sixty-three,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Old Abe, he ended slavery,
Hurrah, hurrah!
In eighteen hundred and sixty-three,
Old Abe, he ended slavery,
And we’ll all drink stone wine
Johnny comes marching home.
[Verse 7]
In eighteen hundred and sixty-four,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Abe called for five hundred thousand more,
Hurrah, hurrah!
In eighteen hundred and sixty-five,
They talked rebellion--strife,
And we’ll all drink stone wine
Johnny comes marching home.
[Verse 8]
When off to battle by and by
Hurrah, hurrah!
When off to battle by and by
Hurrah, hurrah!
When off to battle by and by
Gold in my hand, and rifle by side,
A Doleful Damsel I heard Cry
Oh Johnny I hardly knew yah...
[Chorus]
But We had drums and guns and guns and drums,
Hurrah, hurrah!
We had drums and guns and guns and drums,
Hurrah, hurrah!
We had drums and guns and guns and drums,
But the enemy nearly slew ya,
Oh Darling Dear you look so queer
Oh Johnny I hardly knew yah...
Where are the eyes that looked so mild,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Where are the eyes that looked so mild,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Where are the eyes that looked so mild,
When my poor heart you first beguiled,
Why did ya run from me and the child
Oh Johnny I hardly knew yah...
Where are the legs with which you run,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Where are the legs with which you run,
Hurrah, hurrah!
Where are the legs with which you run,
When first you went to carry a gun,
Indeed your dancing days are done
Oh Johnny I hardly knew yah...
[Verse 11]
You hadn’t an arm, you hadn’t a leg,
Hurrah, hurrah!
You hadn’t an arm, you hadn’t a leg,
Hurrah, hurrah!
You hadn’t an arm, you hadn’t a leg,
You’re a eyeless, boneless, chickenless egg
You’ll have to be put with the bowl to beg
Oh Johnny I hardly knew yah...
[Verse 12]
But I’m happy for to see ya home,
Hurrah, hurrah!
I’m happy for to see ya home,
Hurrah, hurrah!
I’m happy for to see ya home,
Though never again to go to roam,
So low in flesh, so high in bone
Oh Johnny I hardly knew yah...
[Verse 13]
But They’re rolling out the guns a-gain,
Hurrah, hurrah!
They’re rolling out the guns a-gain,
Hurrah, hurrah!
They’re rolling out the guns a-gain,
Once more to cause us pain,
Oh Johnny they say it’s not in vain
Oh Johnny they’re swearing to yah...
I'm Back!
Thank You For Watching!
I am really happy to finally get back into the channel and decided to get this song out to make up for the *excessive* delay. Unfortunately, UA-cam has significantly changed their advertising guidelines and so while the channel *may* be monetized, many videos now cannot be (basically anything in the War or Songs of the Second Civil War playlists). Because of this, I'm not even more reliant on my Patreon supporters who I am excited to mention have grown in number! I'm very greatful for eveyone supporting the channel and especially those folks! If you want to support me as well please check out Patreon:
Thank you again!

Amazing as usual. I can pretty much feel how union soldiers sit around the campfire and one friend with a guitar starts playing and singing this song. :0
Those initial rolling R's in the "hurrah"s give chills. Great stuff

You are literally the Most Fucking Underrated UA-camr I have ever seen; Cheers to the work and Preparation you have put into these Songs!

The original "Thank You for Your Service"
Down with the traitors, up with the stars!
The song is about unity, you don't understand that. Down with the Eagle up with the Cross.
@@Nathan-xy3ei
“It’s about unity” says the dirty traitor. We whipped your ass, the Stars and Stripes beats that rag any day.
@@Nathan-xy3ei You preach unity and then proceed to say down with the eagle. Pick a side brother.
down with the feds and commies!
classic.
Last image would be sick if it displayed the future wars afterwards where guns are rolled out once again
Jolie version.
pretty good
Noice.
Can you please do a cover of 'The Master's Call' by Marty Robbins (I think)
What’s your thoughts on Irish fighting songs like foggy dew, come out ye Black and Tan, go home British soldier, and boys of berry’s column?
The Patreons choose the themes for each month, Irish songs like those, are one of the options...
Can you do The Partian by Leonard Cohen if you can?
perdón, soy argentino, ésta es la versión trola?
okay for context the word gay back then happy but modernized words changed it to the LBTG commuity
We all know that
@@Nathan-xy3ei sadly enough not many people know that, personally I blame parents who don't care more than the US education system but that is a whole different debate for another time...
Är du svensk? För att Hurrah Hurrah lät som en svensk som sa det
eng. Are you swedish? Because Hurrah Hurrah sounded like a swed saying hurra hurra.
No, but I find it interesting that the Hurrah's sounded as they would in Swedish, a cross-linguistic quirk perhaps?
@@alderontyran it was my first tought that that sounded surprisingly Swedish. Awsome work mate
I couldve sworn the song said cheer yay not feel gay i don't think they even knew what gay was so uh i an going to just guess it was changed later on due to politics and stupid stuff
It's always been feel gay because back then gay meant to be happy
The South Will Rise Again!
