Orient,
39mm case, 20mm lugs, Sapphire Crystal, Solid End Links
Charge $325 and people would line up for it.
The dials on these new Bambino's look amazing.
I agree on the crystal, and solid end links, however, the thing that made me sell my bambino was the size, even at 39 I'd sell it. Not because I got small wrist (I got a 7,4-inch wrist) but simply because I believe that dress watches should be more "hidden", or for a lack of a better word "petite". They shouldn't be as big as sports watches, but be more on the down low, ready to show you the time when needed and when not in use "disappear" under the cuff. In my personal opinion dress watches (for me) should be around 28-34, even upwards to 36 if the watch has any complications.
EDIT: Fixed some of the grammar.
@@TheCrabNebula1 Dude, you nailed it! That's how I am too. 38mm is where I draw the line. I love the look of the Bambino (except for that bland date window - not even a frame for it??? Come on!), but I will not buy one because of the diameter.
Otherwise yeah - 36mm to 38mm with sapphire, solid end links, and for me, no date window, and I would drop $500 for one without even flinching. Especially these gorgeous new open heart ones. I love the gradient transition to black.
Yup I would buy a 36mm, open- heart TODAY. I think we'll see these sizes start to come though.
@@mattbowen1022 Hopefully watchmakers are waking up. Outside of the diver category, maybe the chrono category (I don't like chronos in general though) I don't go over 40mm ever, and try to keep it around 38mm. Seems to be the case among a lot of the watch community. I'd love to get back to classic sizes.
@@mattbowen1022 Roman numerals are kind of lame too. Would have liked the look better if it were indices all around, like some within the low-end Presage lineup.
Today I ordered the Orient Helios with the blue dial before I even came across this video. The blue is a knockout and the video just reconfirmed that I'd made a good choice.
Nice Orient watchs! Thanks for the Review!
Welcome!
Very nice, I like the grey dial but the hands would look great a different colour. Thanks Marc.
That's what others are saying. Didn't think about it at the time but makes sense.
I love the Helios with the dark green dial and open heart. Super sharp.
Thanks! Me too.
Butterfly clasps look nice. Problem with them is they usually do not have micro-adjustments. It’s either slightly too loose or uncomfortably tight. Maybe others have better luck.
You are correct; they do not, and no half links.
You nailed it. No in between with them.
That "ordinary green" Helios is actually my favorite watch of the whole bunch! 😍 I think it would look So Smart on a smooth brown leather strap.👌🏼
Haha, you liked "ordinary" green :)
@@islandwatch I do!! :D That green dial is absolutely *stunning.*
The blue Helios is my first (and so far only) mechanical watch. I'm no expert, but it seems like a great value!
Marc, you got my attention with the custom SKX thing. I am looking forward to the upcoming announcement.
Thanks Darren!
I have an orient bambino anthracite, needed a dress watch, and for the money and quality you can't go wrong, nice bracelets.
Thanks Michael
I just got gifted a Helios blue dial open heart 😍. I love it!
I really like the dial colors on the Helios models 👍
Me too!
The bambinos look grand and great commentary Marc👍
Thanks David!
@7:30 Love that the orient has a fairly clean dial. I want to see dial color rather than a line after line of bragging text. (And I prefer dials cleaner despite being a font maven) White dial with blue hands really really sharp
I like the blue-gray hands on that off-white dial and how the light plays with it ... just like on classic watches and pocketwatches. So many earlier Orients seemed to have in-your-face, bright BLUE hands that were out of character with the dressier nature of the dials they were paired with.
I'm quite happy with the blue!
Those open hearts! I ***LOVE*** that there's no date! Date windows are horrible - keep it up, Orient. The blue one is mouth-watering. Burgundy too. Nice.
Glad you're happy Dave, awesome!
Funny. It changes completely the watch. I just "put" my Bambino small second on a Erika Marine Nationale strap like, made by Kronokeeper. And it changes completely the aspect of the watch. From a little first watch for a junior executive to a French Foreign Legion "baroudeur" from Indochina war. Incredible vintage military aspect!
And last but not least. As these straps, from Erika as from Kronokeeper are not strictly 20mm width, but a little bit wider, it's just perfect for the Bambino's 21mm lugs width!
Thank you Mark - a nice review and selection. atb snack
Thanks.
Yeah, I was confused by the model name as well. I already bought the Bambino Version 4 almost two years.
Glad I'm not nuts!
Real winner, I think, is that white dial Bambino. You're right that it's death by choice, so that clean and minimalistic, yet classic design is a great direction for the line.
Yes, thank you!
The Helios models are beautiful! I would preferred them on a leather strap, same with the Bambino. However they still look nice on the bracelets. Too bad they do not have solid end links. Love the SKX wall art!! For the affordable dress watch, it is a close call between the Helios and the Bambino.
Thanks Rudy.
It's lovely to see the entire machinery stop when you pull the crown out!!
:)
Great Looking bambino white dial with blue hands! if it had a bigger bezel would be perfect
Yeah, the white grew on me.
Classic "Hi, its Marc..." is back. I'm happy now.
:)
I love Marc
What is the difference between the Helios and the Bambino open heart I bought from you a few months ago? (Other than the bracelet)
I see the 12 and 6 have Roman numerals but that's about all.
I think that's about it!
Wow. Beautiful watches for a great price.
I'd say so.
I bought the Helios in blue from Long Island. Compared to the Bambino, the dial of the Helios has a more lively sunburst effect that really stands out. It makes the Bambino dial color look flat (though I like the white with blue hands(.
I'm not sure Mark, but I kinda believe you heard me out when I suggested you to offer modded SKX's and all that good stuff, congratulations man! I truly believe you're opening new niches for every watch enthusiast out there, and guess what Amazon won't offer that kind of attention, they just stick to what the manufacturer offer, boring!
Thanks Daniel. The idea has been floating in my head for a while. Baby steps!
I love the open heart ones, Helios. They are amazing! I cannot decide between white and dark red. Which one you believe is more special and goes more nice with a suit?
Which one did you bought?
I agree with you, the white bambino on a bracelet is the one! Cheers!
: - )
Wow that SKX is stunning!
Thank you!!!
That brown face Helios looks like an M&M. Pretty dope
Thanks!
Nice new art on the wall
Thanks!
Thanks for a nice review, while that is not my style, still very nice lookin watches..
Thanks for watching nonetheless.
Thanks for the review. Personally, I'd buy the Envoy. It has a different dial in that the Envoy has Roman numerals for all the hour indicators. Still, if I owned one, then it would look too much like the other in my eyes. Perhaps it's the open heart in the same position.
The Envoy, I feel, is more elegant.
Is the orient helios the same as bambino open heart? I'm looking to purchase a replacement sapphire crystal.
I could picture any of those open watches with bakelite hands as an option... There is also a customization idea.
:-)
Both look sexy but I can't decide never had a open heart watch and I want it !
Excellent review of new products. Like a Orient Bambino. There are no subtitles on the last video. Include them in the future, for international buyers. Thank.
Thank you.
Hiya.At least here in the UK bracelets are the goto for a more formal occassion these days amongst guys. I do myself . Or is it in my case they always seem somehow more engineered than a leather strap and therefore better? Either way I always feel more togged up with a bracelet because I underdress these days for most of the time? Much the same as when I use a suit to dress these days I feel a million quid? What I look like of course is subjective to opinion! Cheers,Len.
I truly think it's just a matter of preference. I would agree that this bracelet is not exactly a very dressy one.
Nice blue. 👍
Thanks!
I hope they will sell bracelets separately. It will be a nice addition to my version 3.
It would be rad!
The Helios has a lot in common with the Orient Star Contemporary Semi-Skeleton in terms of styling, but with a slightly bigger case. The fit and finish probably isn’t quite as good as its higher-tier sibling, though…
Sweet SKX poster!
Thank you!!!!
Shocked I say, shocked! Blue dial first? That’s a channel first!
LOLOL
I have the Orient v2 AC00009N,
Cream dial, blue hands.
I would love to buy a bracelet for it. Hope that can happen in the future.
Understood!
That blue dial Helios 😍, specially on wrist. Out of my current watch budget so maybe next year. 21mm blows but you can get some great custom leather straps online.
Thanks for watching!
Leaning towards the blue dial. I think a leather strap would look nice with it, too.
I don’t see the bambino bracelet version on the Long Island web site. Are they not in stock?
www.longislandwatch.com/New_Watches_s/1867.htm
Nice clock dude.
Thank you
Love that Squale
Me too :-)
That silver Helios would look even better with blue hands.
That it would!
looking to grab the bambino open heart instead of the helios since the leather band will look nicer and fit tighter in dressy situations. what even is the difference between the two (besides the bracelet)?
I think they are the same case. So just the aesthetics.
The only real difference are the dial options, the band/bracelet can be switched out
I’m looking for that bracelet for my bambino v2, where would I find it? 🤔
Can we get the bracelet by itself, I have a SS Bambino.
Is it possible to just buy the bracelet for older generation Bambinos?
Yes, if you can find a 21mm one.
I think the grey one is beautiful, BUT the hands ought to be a different color to make them visible!!!!
Yeah, that's a problem with so many versions.
Blue hands would be great for the grey one
Hi Marc, what going on with the babies older and richer cousin, the os classic. The price has been falling and now most of them are out of stock. I hope this means something new in the orient star line is coming soon.
There are certainly new OS's hitting the shores, but I kinda like the original classic design.
Would I be able to buy the bracelet on its own to fit the bambino I already own?
Not yet.
I feel very confused on which Helios ope-heart I should get. So please help me out here. LIKE for the GREEN dial- OR DISLIKE for the WHITE/SILVER dial. Thankxx
I have very small wrists. Would these fit a 6 inch wrist?
Might be a bit large.
terrific
Thanks for watching.
Will Long Island Watch carry the MR-G MRGG2000RJ-2A ?
Not familiar with it.
I’m looking for the bambino with the white face and blue hands like in the video but all the bambino’s I find they say the hands are black .
I don’t know why but I never liked dressier watches on bracelets, the combination always looks a bit weird to me. I’m sure I’m in a minority though 😀
I love bracelets but i share your opinion. I bought leather strap for my orient star classic before it arrived. Thats the only proper way to wear it imho.
On an inexpensive dress watch, I prefer a leather strap.
I'm with you, buddy.
agreed
What size leather strap do you get for the Helios?@@islandwatch
The Helios is not my thing, open hearts in general look a bit weird I think almost like they were going to skeletonise but then could not be bothered. The Bambino’s are a classic but I think I prefer them on straps, although now if you want a bracelet there is a 21mm option now.
Cracking watches for the money, perhaps one will be mine one day. Meantime still loving the Seiko SARB as my dress watch.
Thanks for checking it out!
they wouldnt need to make so many bambino versions if they were to just fix the case dimensions. 20mm lug and 38 mm diameter and they would sell much more. its a shame, that silver ombre /gradient helios dial looks great
Thanks for checking it out.
Can't really agree with you on the Bambinos. Yes, there may be a lot of them around now, but IMHO they are a beautiful, elegant watch with a clean design and a great value. I love my leather strap white dial. I do agree that the Helios is a knockout, though, especially the blue and the green
Thanks for checking it out.
I like the open heart version. I have not seen that on Orient before. Or maybe I just missed it.
There's a few open hearts; but this one was done well.
@@islandwatch I really like the blue dial on this watch. It pops!!
Any word on the new orient divers some people are calling the Ray 3?
I'm hoping February.
I want so bad to buy a bambino but i am confused that the service cost is higher than the price of the watch itself
For an automatic watch in that price range, it's true that the bambino costs the same (if not more) to service as the price of the watch itself. Unless the watch has sentimental value, I would just buy a new one when the time is up for service. This goes for any automatic watch in the sub $200 price range unfortunately. They are only good for about five years, but again, you can buy a new one.
in my opinion, the bracket is not dressy enough commensurate with bambino ...
on the other hand, the grey gradient Helio is awesome !!!
Thanks Dave!
Hi Mark!
Howdie.
I wish they had a 36 or 38 mm for my small wrists lol
I wish they would do these with a sapphire crystal.
That'd be hot.
Can’t you buy an aftermarket sapphire crystal if you really love a watch that has mineral?
WalterDavidRiffmon Yes. On the other hand, look around for an Orient “Duke” -not sure if they make them anymore - but very Bambino-ish and comes with a sapphire crystal.
Can i get only the bracelet?
Not at this point, sorry.
winner? was there a giveaway.... congrats to the winner... mmm a bambino, they look good but i never have to wear a suit... should i still get one tho?
I think he meant that the Helios watches are the "winner" compared to the new Bambinos when it comes to coolness factor.
@@raye0826 oooooow :) that sounds about right.... ive seen orient bambinos with open hearts before tho, dont know y these are so special
LOL. We're all winners :)
У меня часы ориент работают до сих пор с 1998 года 3 star.
what is the best metal bracelet replacement for version 4
Can u buy the bracelet seperetly
Not currently.
Now they just need to add a sapphire crystal
Probably not gonna happen.
Do you always wear two watches?
Kartoffel Senpai 80% of the time, Marc wears 2 watches 😃
Yup
👍
Hey Marc, have you checked the Xiaomi TwentySeventeen Light? It is a mechanical, sapphire crystal watch with a Miyota movement for less than $110 😱
Too bad they left the “water resistant” text.
tim.herremans yikes. You're right. That's pretty unattractive.
I think it pays tribute to other vintage watches that used to say "waterproof" on their dress timepieces. Given that they can't legally say "waterproof," they're saying water resistant. I think it adds a bit of charm imo.
Yeah, on a dressy watch, that's pretty bad.
At least the second hand has no red tip on it... That was BAAAAD
Junwoo Jang I agree that the font is attractive. I would have preferred “Automatic” on the dial or something not as redundant.
@@bjmarchives to be fair "Automatic" is also redundant but at least it is way better than "water resistant" the later makes it feel cheaper like some toy.
Orient Ra AG0029 👍👍
If only orient would make these a bit smaller
One day we can hope.
My wife says the same thing. She loves my white 2nd gen ver 3 but thinks it’s too big for her wrist, so no sharing (yet).
@@islandwatch Have you ever emailed them about it Mark?
Actually you can just buy the women's version which is the same watch but at 36mm case size
Only the bambinos tho, haven't seen helios for women anywhere
BTW isn’t it funny that Orient has Diashock on all of their watches, even the cheapest ones, while Seiko only puts it on expensive watches these days ?
Diashock is in the 7S26, and in all seiko movement
Alex Alex Nope, it is not THE Diashock, but a lower end version at best. The Diashock we all know is only found in the higher end watches (it was in the Alpinist and SARG but they are discontinued) For everything else, Seiko has replaced it with a different system. Orient are still using THE Diashok (the one found in all older Seiko movements and now only in higher end watches) which according to Seiko is superior otherwise why they only put it on higher end watches ?
That grey dial…..
I like how Orient watches look, but for some reason their logo design prevents me from actually buying them, especially white face and that patch of red on the logo just no no for me. Haven't seen grey before it looks kind of okeyish
I dig the grey. Could be very boring, but isnt.
I have 4 bambinos, which is 2 too many. I will have to pass. Especially on a bracelet, looks odd.
LOL!
:)
Amazing.
Dont like the bambino on a bracelet. It is a classic design that belongs on leather.
Can't say I disagree.
Do slower vids please
Ooooo kkkaaaaayyyyy. Lol. I spoke fast in this one. Must have been the coffee. Sorry.
@@islandwatch I really like your work almost always.
Orient watches lack accuracy, way off, in the looks department 10 out of 10 for the money
Imo that Orient is hideous
They are for yetis, look the length of bracelet!
The case is ok,but the bracelet is very, very bad
Very boring looking watches to me.
I thought the colors were nice.
Orient watches have the ugliest movements of all modern watches. A solid screw down caseback would suit much better than a display snapback. No ones wants to see that ugly movement.
:(
