The fact you can get an automatic in house movement, with 200M water resistance, sapphire crystal, signed screw down crown, and bracelet for around $200 is unbeatable. They’re the best budget option. It’s not even close.
I’ve been wearing my Kamasu for two years and while I’m not a huge fan of the bezel action, I am at a solid +8 seconds per day. If I decided I needed a new watch, I’d probably buy another Kamasu in a different color.
@@dscryptprodbysounknox1296 Would say they are even. Seikos best watch options are above 400$ The new Seiko Alpinist for example is unbeatable at it's pricepoint. It has saphire, 70 hours power reserve, great accuracy, 20 bar water resistance great finishing and a rich history. The Seiko Samurai and the Turtle might be the best dive watches for under 500. I would buy a Sumo over them because it is even better and worth the money you need to pay more. So over 400$ Seiko is the absolute King. In the low-price-segment nothing beats Orient at the moment. When you are someone who does not like to pay a big amount of money for some watches you can built up a good collection with Orient, Seiko 5 and Casio.
Teddy, you're a gentleman and a scholar. This video comes as a mild shock, Orient rarely gets such decent recognition for being the gorgeous watches that they are. The designs are less cluttered than many Swiss luxury equivalents, it's about aesthetics and clarity, not dollars, the designers know what they are really doing at Orient. I've seen uglier Patek's LOL.
Great point Paul! My daily wear is currently at AP in Clearwater for a full service. The watch on my wrist as I write this is one of my three Orient watches (an all black, steel sport model similar in look to a Submariner. It's gorgeous!). I believe I paid under $300 for it a few years ago. When friends come to me with questions about getting into the quality automatic watch game, I always tell them that if all they're looking for is a high quality watch they can spend several thousand on a solid Swiss watch, or several hundred on an Orient. My concern with Orient is that, when my watches are due for their regular service, it will be difficult to justify spending the same, or more, for service than it will be to just buy a new one. I've already decided I'll probably buy a new one, but still hold on to the old one as I believe there very well may be a market for vintage Orient watches in the future because as they grow in popularity and the supply of older models diminishes, they just may increase in value. Sorry about the long comment folks, it's just nice to see Orient get some well earned, and deserved praise.
I own two Orients. The Mako 2 in black and the Bambino V2 in the grey. Love both and HIGHLY recommend. Orient is flat out killing it. I get tons of compliments on both. I swapped my steel bracelet for a bunch of different straps and have a great time wearing them.
My first watch was the Orient Mako 1. Still have the watch now and wear it quite a lot, despite owning other watches from Omega, JLC, Rolex and Breitling. Orient definitely deserves more attention.
I have a Mako as well. The only thing wrong with it is the crown is too small and smooth. Otherwise it's a great looking and working mechanical watch for under $100.
I just got my Orient Maestro(In a beautiful blue) yesterday. I initially wanted a Seiko, especially since it is a more prestigious brand, but the Orient was obviously much better at the price. I'm just a kid and this being my first watch I bought with my own money is really something. I can tell I'm going to cherish this beautiful timepiece for years to come.
My first mechanical watch was an Orient Ray II about 6 years or so ago. It's looking a bit beat up now, scratches on the bezel and case, but it's never missed a beat and still gets wrist time now despite owning several higher end pieces. Fantastic choice as a first mechanical watch
Graduating college student here. Got a Mako II as my entry into the hobby. Wear it all day every day, couldn’t be happier. Going to rock with it until my taste and knowledge develops further. All thanks to your videos!
Great video. This is my favorite watch brand for quality and price range. The Tristar I have had since college, 25 years. Had it serviced twice. Last service was 3 years ago. Checked it recently +2 secs, amplitude at 275 - 280. Beat error 0.0 is incredible. Same results from $10,000 watches. You don't have to worry about an expensive watch attracting attention from the wrong people. Nice watch to wear out for dinner or at a sporting event. I store it in a watch case and put it on a watch winder when I want to wear it the next day.
Since Seiko prices have gone insane, Orient has been my go to. First an orange Ray II, then a white Maestro open heart. Currently considering a green Kamasu II.
I got the green Kamasu 2 and its a stunner. My doc who is a watch guy (He was wearing a IWC) noticed it and said it looked great. I did, however need to return the first one that I got because it ran pretty fast (3 minutes a day) but the replacement I got runs within spec.
Teddy this is why I love your channel, you can talk about high end luxury watches and affordable watches that everyone can afford. Your love for watches and helping people get into collecting or just learning is fantastic.
Ive just started wearing an Orient Defender 2, it's an excellent product for the price. Comfortable, lightweight and the lume is first class. I would never have considered an Orient if it wasn't for Teddy's love for the brand.
Orient watches are great as gifts, too, as they’re not overly expensive but still of an impressive quality in comparison with what else is on the market.
I second that! I was taken aback with how amazing a simple Tri-Star looked on a quality supreme NATO, and all under $150! Made for a perfect Christmas gift for my dad.
I got my first Orient this year.. the Kamasu for around $200. I have a small wrist but it looks great! Amazing value. It does lose a few seconds daily which is common for automatics.
Great video! I've owned 3 Orients and they've all been fantastic. Even though I'm moving up the price ladder, there are still 2 or 3 Orients on my wish list. I can't say enough good things about them.
My first automatic watch is the blue dial Orient Ray. Have other watches now, but I still wear the orient ray - the shimmer of the sunburst blue dial is really beautiful and it's a solid chunky watch!
Still happy with my mako one after years. +/-1 sec a day and it auto regulates at night when put on 3o'clock position. Simply Amazing. Never ever disapointed ❤️
Why I would recommend a dive watch as the perfect field watch: 1. Bezel can be used as a timer chronograph, a compass and gmt dual time indicator. 2. Higher water resistance than a traditional field watch, indicating higher robustness 3. Better lume and legibility than a traditional field watch
Got an Orient golden eye 2 back in march this year. Best choice I made has hacking, sapphire glass with a sun burst effect and hand winding. all for £165
My re-introduction into mechanical watches was an Orient Defender II with the green dial. The cheap bracelet made an alternate Orient nato strap an immediate purchase. Gains about +15 seconds a day, but is in transit from Orient as I write for a warranty repair of a crown that came apart. I am at a point in my life where endulging in mechanical watches is not a potential hobby, but a desire to connect with a timepiece that is functional. I have about six quartz pieces, but tend to wear one watch for most occasions. I am working my way up the watch food chain and am impressed by Christopher Ward. Not much of a Rolex fan, but hope to end up with a Tudor or Omega before my I check out. Keep up the great work Teddy!
Just bought myself an Orient Kanno and couldn’t be happier. Affordable doesn’t always mean bad, and Orient’s watches definitely showcase that aspect of their brand.
After the video with Kevin Oleary where you showed the kanno to him, I decided to buy an orient diver. I ended up buying the Kamasu and I couldn’t be more happy with it as a new watch enthusiast. Thanks Teddy !!!
started in automatics with a $40 good working orient tristar from ukraine. all original parts, scratch on the crystal, pristine case/dial and scuffed bracelet. replaced the bracelet and put on a sapphire. amazing watch for ~$75. that orient got me into seiko modding. so many possibilities and easy on the wallet too, relatively speaking. such a fulfilling little hobby. i owe it all to that little orient.
I just got my first mechanical watch a few weeks ago and it's an old Orient Tristar. I'm really into this watch hobby now and I'm looking to build my collection around the brand.
My grandfather gave me his ‘70s Orient Tristar. The watch has never been serviced by him until 2017 when he gave it to me. However, it was still running within 10 seconds a day. After the service it was even better :)
The Maestro was my first mechanical watch. It doesn't get much wrist time these days as I've graduated to an Omega AT, but it will forever have a place in my heart.
I wasn't sure if I would like a dive watch, so I bought an Orient Ray II for $125 and I have been very impressed. Had I known that I'd like it as much as I have, I would have spent more to buy the Kamasu but I'm happy with the Ray.
My first mechanical watch is an Orient Mako II. Bought it from Drop (back when it was still called Massdrop). I mainly wear it using a NATO strap and I get more compliments with it compared to my other watches.
My first watch was the minimalist V3 Bambino (the Bauhaus inspired). I have now a few dress watches in my collection but always pick up the Bambino at least once every 2 weeks. Thank you very much for highlighting some orient I didn't know existed. The sun and moon orient would definitely be a good addition to my collection!! Thanks Teddy for your dedication and hard work in educating us about watches. You definitely have a cult follower here in the Netherlands....
Not really interested in being conned, I'll pass your strange present that can only be delivered via telegram! Too bad you can't find an honest way to make a living. The real Teddy would chose clearer (more honest ways ) to reward his followers.
Hi Teddy. I just managed to catch a Kamasu Limited edition “Rootbeer” here in my country for 270 bucks! Seems to be the only one in the country, as I couldnt find it on any other website and it went out of stock after I put the order. Cant wait to see what number I get! Great video as always!
I have an earlier version of the Sun & Moon (no hacking or hand winding), and it may be the most beautiful piece I have in my collection. Love Orient's design aesthetic (for the most part), can't wait to get the next one.
It was my first automatic watch 😃👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻 Kamasu---> Vostok Amphibia---> Seiko King Turtle Save the Ocean Dark Manta 😊 im trying to buy a premium Watch but with this “waiting list…” i dont know what to do or what buy ☹️
My first Watch was an Orient automatic blue dial. It was a gift from my older brother in 1976. It was bought in Paraguay. I was then a 14 years old boy. Now I am 60 years old and I have several watches including an Orient Poseidon, a diver Watch. I like Orient.
Teddy you encouraged me to get the kamasu, I even bought it from your website and I am very happy with it. I even grew to love it even more over time. very sleek elegant and understated.
I own 3 seiko and 2 orient (mechanical) watches. Orient has definitely more features for lower price, such as sapphire glass (on my 170€ dress watch) and screw crown (on my 160€ “diver”), but seiko is a bit better in the overall feel, fit and quality. Both brands are great!
I've been wearing the Orient Kamasu with the red dial for a couple of years now and I love it. The case is 42mm but wears smaller, I think that is due to the sloping bezel. Accuracy is about minus two seconds a day, which is insane for a €200 watch. 200 meters water resistant and sapphire glass, neat! I put it on a Hirsch Pure Caoutchouc strap which is as comfortable as it is indestructable. The red dial is beautiful in every light and it is the friendliest of reds I've seen. If I'll buy another strap for it, it will be a Staib milanese mesh, the fact that that particular strap costs more than the watch itself is holding me back however......for now. Great value for money.
I'm not a very serious collector, but I sure love the two Orient watches I have. My Kamasu in red is a go-to; it's just so nice and wears well with lots of things. And that dial in the sun is great; just a wonderful shine on it. The bracelet is very comfortable as well. My other Orient is an open heart Bambino. Watching the pallet fork and balance wheel in action just really sums up the pleasure of having a mechanical watch. It gets less wear than the Kamasu, just because I like to baby that lovely mineral crystal. Edit to add: I did change the strap on the Bambino. I change it all the time, actually, just to match belt/shoes if I'm wearing a suit.
With a Orange and Black King Diver as my first watch when I was 8, I became hooked on the brand at a young age. Love Orient and the brand gets better every year.
I started with an orient ray and bambino, then got a seiko SNK and a samurai, then got an orient star, and I just got a Tudor BB58 red bezel. It all started a year and a half ago with that ray and bambino.
Great video! As a med student who wants to get into watches but has a low budget I really appreciate these videos discussing great watches at less extravagant price points
I appreciate that you review watches from all price points. It helps people like me who would love to be at the higher price points but can get there yet. Thank you!
Just bought my first automatic in the Orient Kamasu 1 month back. Had to import it from the USA via a friend (I live in Asia and my country has heavy taxes on foreign watches). Such a stunning piece of craftsmanship. Edit: it's the same piece you showed on the video, but I installed a new navy blue rubber strap
My watch collectin journey started from a Casio Edifice quartz chronograph to an Orient Kamasu. Already, even basic automatic movements seem mesmerizing, and the finishing and weight of the bracelet are great. Want to see how an fp journe would be like at the end of the line some day.
Teddy,Teddy ,Teddy you’re a true teacher ,since more than one year I watch your videos and I learn a lot and I start to be a huge fan of watches ! Stay like this Teddy !
I have two of the watches in this video - the green dial Maestro, and a red dial Kamasu. I'd recommend Orient to anyone, especially someone on a budget - you just get so much watch for your money. Great video Teddy!
Just recently bought my first mechanical watch and it's a version of the Orient Defender. I went with a classic brown leather strap rather than the field type strap featured here though. So far I love it. Really glad to see it on this list as well.
Thx for starting my interest in automatics. Have a quatz hilfiger for 2 years, but now i bought the Orient Kamasu and got it monday - Really felt in love with it within the week, even thouhg it feel a bit smaller than my 46mm Hilfiger. So far i dont get the fuzz about the bracelet, not like i shake my arm every second or get anoyed by it. Feels fine, except a bit snug when i take it on, then its fine again.
I'm a fan of Orient. I have the Green Triton, Blue Defender 2 and I bought the Bambino for my Dad. I haven't put either on a timegrapher but they perform very well. One of your video reviews actually introduced me to Orient. Thanks :)
I’ve decided to pull the trigger on a Kamasu. Only thing that is holding me up is deciding between the black and the blue variations. I would love some input from this community on the pros and cons of each to help me decide.
I bought the Ray II about 9 months ago as my first non-quartz. I've since picked up 12 other mechanical and autos. Ranging from a few art deco(Hamilton, Longines, Gruen, Waltham), an original Seiko SKX 007, a 70's Omega Deville Tool 106 cushion case, two vintage jump hours, and an old Citizen Bullhead. Please send help, but don't tell my fiance...
The Kamasu was my first automatic. A killer with a Strapcode bracelet replacement (though of course that makes the value proposition a bit less compelling).
Hi i bought a zeppelin watch as my first now I'm going crazy and saving to get a sinn u50 .I know zeppelin isn't the greatest but it's a stepping stone and not a bad looking watch.
This may freak you out but I got a Volomond it was a backorder was to be a Rolex copy rated to got down to 100ft. Well when I finally got it, it was rated to go down to 330ft. It's a beautiful blue with a heavy layered gold and keeps good time for a watch so cheap. In a week it's only three minutes off. I find that impressive.
I've Kamassu Mako III accuracy +25 sec. I don't care about accuracy. But recently I have found old (25 years) Orient 3 Stars , This watch has never been repaired, never serviced anything accuracy -6-8 sec, I shook them a little and they're going again .very reliable
I did start my mechanical watch journey with Orient. The Orient Explorer to be precise. Still have it. Absolutely no competition at that price for an in house movement and a GMT complication.
I was wearing orient since 2007 to 2017 everyday, before that it belonged to my father since 2002 , when it finally broke and stopped running , after 15 years of everyday wear without service, I took it to local watch repair - master told me he never seen anything like that and couldn’t get pats for it . Orient brand was pretty much not existing in USA. Now I’m looking at 70th anniversary Orient , this time since I’m older and got more experience with watches, I will take care of them more diligent. Awesome brand - good movements, great items to collect without breaking the bank.
I purchased an Orient Star Basic date blue dial watch recently. The watch looks like a direct competitor to Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80, just slightly larger at 42mm. But when I came to the store, and compared - Orient Star looked much more expensive and at half the price of Tissot (online discounted stores). Amazing watch at an amazing value!
I love the Kamasu! I owned the green and blue 1st gen for a long time. I have now picked up the blue and gold kamasu gen 2 that recently released and im always impressed with them. They are in my rotation just as much as my Omega Seamasters.
Watching this with an Orient Diver on the wrist. Mine is a F49TT001, made in titanium, up to 1000ft of water resistance, ceramic bezel and limited to 1000 pieces (still comes with two extra rubber straps) You should check it out, it is awesome. Also, the F49 caliber is the new caliber made in house by Orient and it is replacing the 469 caliber.
The Orient Bambino became my first mechanical watch thanks to you Teddy. After that, the rest is history diving head first into the full and deep hole of the world of Horology. My only regret in this crazy hobby of ours is that I didn't discover Orient sooner instead of settling for cheap quartz watches in HS and college.
@@jyveturkie lacquered plastic-y leather, like an old man’s church moccasins. It squeaks as you shift your wrist left to right, and it looks like the replacement versions on the Orient website are the same material, AFTER they finally restock them

I have an earlier version of the Sun & Moon (no hacking or hand winding), and it may be the most beautiful piece I have in my collection. Love Orient's design aesthetic (for the most part), can't wait to get the next one.
The dial can compete with JLC for sure
It was my first automatic watch 😃👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Kamasu---> Vostok Amphibia---> Seiko King Turtle Save the Ocean Dark Manta 😊 im trying to buy a premium Watch but with this “waiting list…” i dont know what to do or what buy ☹️
My first mechanical watch was a BOBO Bird, still going strong today. I’ll definitely check out Orient. I’m really enjoying your videos Thank you.
Just bought the Kamasu II red dial, love the watch
Just ordered an orient bambino gen2 v2… my first real watch purchase in a long time!
Which one would you recommend Teddy :-
Kamasu 1 or Kamasu 2
And do explain about the dial colors
Always fun to watch Teddies videos
I appreciate that you review watches from all price points. It helps people like me who would love to be at the higher price points but can get there yet. Thank you!
My first mechanical watch was the Orient Saturation Diver. I also own the Sun & Moon, the FTV, the Retro Future Guitar and the RA-AC0K.
I am from India and i know what you are talking about, i am also thinking of getting a friend to bring one for me
My watch collectin journey started from a Casio Edifice quartz chronograph to an Orient Kamasu.
My first watch, an Orient Kamasu, just arrived this Monday. I love it
I have two of the watches in this video - the green dial Maestro, and a red dial Kamasu.
I love orient brand - I bought a driver - and was not disappointed- it’s great watch for everyday functions-
Thx for starting my interest in automatics.
I've modded the hell out of my Ray II and I absolutely love it. I've got way pricier ones but I still wear the old faithful very often
My first mechanical watch was an Orient kamasu with the strapcode strap. I really recommend it!
Recently bought a black dial Kamasu. Excellent watch for any day of the week.
Welcome to the rabbit hole sir.
damnn you need to chill out, btw may i know what longines watch you got?
@@garynico9872 Early 50's 2049 model.
Good advice. I started with Orient years ago and still wear them from time to Time
The Kamasu was my first automatic. A killer with a Strapcode bracelet replacement (though of course that makes the value proposition a bit less compelling).
Just got my first automatic 2 days ago, and it is an Orient. It is definitively my gateway drug.
Orients are great watches, not the smoothest to wind, there is a "groinchy" feel to them but you never get any issues.
I think you may have coined a new term, “groinchy” explains both the sound and the feel.
You should check out the Orient Golden Eye 2 it’s amazing
Really good one! I think those are discontinued now. I was able to purchase the white one a few months ago, but prices have increased.
It’s funny you just put this video up. I’ve been considering an Orient and have been researching them over the past few weeks. Thanks!
I did start my mechanical watch journey with Orient. The Orient Explorer to be precise. Still have it. Absolutely no competition at that price for an in house movement and a GMT complication.
I bought a Mako II last year as an everyday watch and I love it. I can’t keep quartz watches alive for some reason so this Mako has been fantastic.
I’m wearing my Kamasu now. Black bezel, red dial. You can’t beat it
I was wearing orient since 2007 to 2017 everyday, before that it belonged to my father since 2002 , when it finally broke and stopped running , after 15 years of everyday wear without service, I took it to local watch repair - master told me he never seen anything like that and couldn’t get pats for it . Orient brand was pretty much not existing in USA. Now I’m looking at 70th anniversary Orient , this time since I’m older and got more experience with watches, I will take care of them more diligent. Awesome brand - good movements, great items to collect without breaking the bank.
I love my Orient retro future camera so much.Cool design from elements. of camera&lens with a good accuracy, smooth movement.
I bought a kamasu just to get into the mechanical watch game. Man I love this thing!
I love the Kamasu! I owned the green and blue 1st gen for a long time. I have now picked up the blue and gold kamasu gen 2 that recently released and im always impressed with them. They are in my rotation just as much as my Omega Seamasters.
Got an Orient Altair and Orient Kamasu as my first two watches while I build up my taste and collecting philosophy. Couldn't be happier
just bought the sun and moon, so hyped, it just fits my vibe perfectly
Love my Kamasu 2022 Model with Burgundy face, and burgundy gradient bezel. It punch well over it's price point and to me it's a steal of a watch.
I just ordered a Orient Bambino open heart
The Orient Bambino became my first mechanical watch thanks to you Teddy. After that, the rest is history diving head first into the full and deep hole of the world of Horology. My only regret in this crazy hobby of ours is that I didn't discover Orient sooner instead of settling for cheap quartz watches in HS and college.
Orient Bambino is planning to release 38 mm versions in July 2022. After 40mm was too big, 36mm was too small and 38mm is perfect.
What makes the stock strap so terrible? I've seen people make this point, but never say why.
@@jyveturkie lacquered plastic-y leather, like an old man’s church moccasins. It squeaks as you shift your wrist left to right, and it looks like the replacement versions on the Orient website are the same material, AFTER they finally restock them
Orient Kamasu red is my very first mechanical watch. Great choice comparing value-price. It is beautiful.
