- On a recent trip to New Orleans I had beignets and was smitten, so let's make 'em at home because, NOLA, I miss you. And, while we're at it, let's figure out what this gadget does... #emmymade #beignets

Native here… it really comes down to your oil. I was surprised when I saw you used Peanut oil… that’s authentic! Great job going full blown authentic.
That may be why I don’t love all beignets. It must be the oil & that peanut oil makes the difference. Usually they remind me of fried yeast rolls with powdered sugar
Emmy could give classes in HAPPINESS & GRATITUDE for the little pleasures in life 👏👏🥰🥰
I've had a silicone scrubby pad to wash up dough and it has lasted me 4 years or more. I use it for all dishes, never going back to a sponge ever. The floppy pads are cheaper and easier to use. I bought a 3 pack and I am still using the first one.
Ooo...I didn't know about the flat ones. I'll check them out - thanks!
oh i use something similar but for my makeup brushes.
I crocheted a scrubbie out of scrubbie yarn, and it's the best thing for removing dough from pans as well as paint and glue from my fingers when I'm doing crafts. I made a small one with a loop in it to hang on the bathtub spigot for when I need to clean the tub.
@@ElveeKaye I didn't know there was scrubby yarn. Just ordered some to make a few dish cloths. 😊
I got some chain mail when I got a cast iron pan, and was pleasantly surprised when I found that it's useful for much more than just the pan. I use it in the same way you use the doap here: For substantial messes that will gunk up a sponge or brush.
I will always remember my first trip to New Orleans with my grandparents and great uncle and aunt... I know my grandfather and his best friend my great uncle belonged to some organization that had a to-do in New Orleans. They planned to visit my Uncle, their 3rd child, who worked for the GM&O Railroad as a passenger car steward. They always woke up early having grown up on farms....and I think we may have been the first at Cafe Du Monde that morning... got to watch them open the awnings and shutters.... and they got two bags of Beignets, one of powder sugar and the other with the cinnamon & powder sugar. Everyone got a cup of chicory coffee but I got a double cream hot chocolate.... I sat in my granpappys lap the whole time, him dunking a Beignet in his coffee and sometimes feeding me a bit of soaking Beignet rich with coffee and milk...both kinds were wonderful coffee soaked. Meemaw gave him an earful about feeding me Beignets soaked in coffee... I know I wasn't even 2 yet. I think thats the best way to experience Cafe Du Monde the first time.... next time I'd be with my parents and that time? I got to meet Mr. and Mrs. Louis Armstrong.... over at some smokey Jazz Club.... good memories.
Wow. That's amazing. Thanks for sharing.
What a great memory. I love NOLA
What a wonderful memory! Thank you!
The way I felt like reading a book and now I want to know what happens next
I'll be very honest, some of this stuff that you make I have no interest in making or learning to make just because it's outside my physical capabilities or very restrictive diet. But I still watch alot of your videos and any ofmthem that randomly come up in my feed. Because your personality is so sparkling and comforting like a warm hug from your Grandma when she's not there to give you one even though you really, really need one. So thank you for putting your kindness out there.
Aww...THANK YOU.🧡 I'm glad my videos can bring you some comfort.🧡 And thanks for comparing me to a hug from your grandma, that's so very sweet.✨
My favorite DOAP Pusher
😂
Our stop at Cafe du Monde in NOLA was life-changing, not only because of the beignets but we had coffee with chicory which was not only so good but easier on our bellies (and we have some sensitive guts!)
The second I heard that happy humming after your first bite, I had to hit the like button right there hahahaha. Your happiness is everyone else's happiness. Thank you for your videos!!
Beignets hit the stomach like NOLA music hits the soul. Great job, those look delicious!
Thanks!
The last thing I want to think about after baking is cleaning up. DOAP looks like it makes cleaning up a breeeeze. Gonna take the plunge.
Isn't New Orleans the best? I was born in Louisiana but never really went to NO to play until a few years ago. Beignets are soooo good! Also the best music ever 😊❤
I was just there for the first time last week, it was so fascinating and different to any other iconic city I have been to before.
And community coffee is the best, I mail order that stuff.
You make New Orleans people happy those look amazing
I bet the DOAP would be great for gardening dirt, too.
My nephew brought me a box of the Cafe du Monde beignet mix when he and his mom visited NO. He brought it to me cause he knew I would actually make it. ;)
We always would just take pre-made biscuit dough that comes in the can. You roll it out a little bit and cut it into pieces and it makes perfect beignets.
That is delicious, but the taste is not the same.
We use to put a hole in the middle and make donuts w our canned biscuits❤. Wonderful memories 💖
Almost 3 million Emmy....
Only 20000 more subs!
0:57 when I first saw the title I Imidently thought of the princess and the frog(Disney movie)! They animated the beignets so good!
I've had them with warmed raspberry jam. And also dipped in warmed melted chocolate....yummy!!!!
You make me wish I liked coffee. I've tried... I just can't. You made this combination look delectable. I may try this recipe, but with a hearty cuppa tea, instead.
Oh, they're scrumptious with tea too.🫖
The way most people get introduced to coffee is a very very milky and sweet coffee au lait or coffee flavored milk with sugar. No coffee shame nowadays if you still like it that way.
In days before Starbucks, you would be expected to drink the coffee plain black without any sugar. I tried, but I prefer some cream and some sugar. Do what pleases you!
@@lrajic8281yep true! I first drank coffee with loads of creamer AND sugar lol but now I just need a bit of creamer and I’m good
I forced myself to drink coffee for the health benefits. I started with milk and sugar and practically held my nose. Eventually I liked it, but always with milk.
Hot cocoa is a great coffee substitute
I would love to see how you make your sourdough bread!! (Including the starter❤)
Oh, boy! Anybody else want to see? I make a loaf every week.🧡
@emmymade i would LOVE to see that! Ive always wanted to learn how to make bread
@@emmymadeYES, PLEASE. Made my first loaf after watching your butter candle video, also was super interested in the girl that you featured, and I’d love to see another bread video PLEASEEEE AND thank you!!!!
@@emmymadeyes, please. Been wanting to try it myself.
@@emmymadeyou could read the phone book to us and I think I’d watch. Of course we want to see! 🤣
Emmy just made me want to try "DOPE". No doubt I'm going to be hooked on it. And if the "DOPE" is good, it's worth the price.
OMG memories you just took me back to the year 2000 when I had my first beignets and coffee, I didn't really enjoy the chicory coffee to much but those powdery squares of heaven !!! Thank goodness I live close enough I can get them anytime.... nothing beats that entire experience 💙
if you squeeze lemon over the top of your powdersugared beignets you get this awesome glaze
Then they aren't authentic......the powdered sugar is the experience the vibe
@@AzureSkii.KismetI mean, it was great having a video on the authentic version, but nothing wrong with trying new things in future videos 😊
did i say it was authentic? i simply offered another way to enjoy.
That’s how I eat my waffles. Lemon and powdered sugar as a topping for crunchy dough is magical.
If you went to New Orleans, and didn’t have chicory coffee and beignets at the Cafe Du Monde, you wasted a trip.
I make donuts from my sourdough discard. I brought them to a family gathering and everyone thought I had stopped at a famous donut shop.
Sourdough donuts are the BEST. now i gotta make some donuts.
May you ship me some I’ll pay
I need to get some of that Doap!! I bake constantly and always end up with flour all over me, the counters and the floor - especially when I am grinding the flour! It's everywhere if the bowl isn't snapped in tight enough! Let us know how long it works before it falls apart, please. So glad you enjoyed your trip!
It doesn't fall apart.
Sadly, I cannot find it on Amazon.
@@lancerevell5979 there's a link in the description
We love the Cafe De Monde. We go any time we are in New Orleans
I used to get those at the bahnhof in Frankfurt. I didn't know the American name. I also bought crepes on my way to work. Yum.😊
Ahhh! I love Doap for sourdough baking!! The creator of Doap is pretty stinking rad too 🧡
I'm so glad you had fun!
Your beignets look so yummy!
My dad grew up in New Orleans, so we'd get some beignets when we'd visit family.
SO good!
in Brazil we have a VERY similar desert its called Sonho (means dream.) and it's just like this but is usually round and it's served with custard(or Doce de Leite you probably know as Dulce de leche) inside 10/10 would recommend you to try
In 1983 I was 16. Went to NO with my mom. Our hotel was in the French Quarter. I happened upon Care du Monde, the most awesome pastry I've ever had. Coffee too! Beignets are the best ❤
I visited New Orleans years ago with my sister. The corners were indeed the best part! She kept trying to steal mine :D
Lovely video, Emmy! they look delicious 😋
I drizzle mine with honey as soon as they're done, then I dust with powdered sugar. It's sooo good
A touching tribute to Gambit
They look amazing!!
Loved New Orleans beignets and chicory coffee!! 😋 Core memory unlocked!!
I feel like then trying to get the silicone clean would be a nightmare
Just put it in the dishwasher or clean it with dish soap.
I had the best vacation when I went to New Orleans many years ago. And the beignets from Cafe Du Monde is a must when visiting. 😊
Omg!!!! Its so fun to see you make something from were i live😊😊😊
Beignets could be described as fried dough. I'm from the New Orleans area, so that's a good way to explain them.
Yeah, like a doughnut.
Beignets reminded me very much of fastnachts, which are a treat on Fat Tuesday in parts of Pennsylvania. It would be interesting to see you compare the two.
I wonder if the Doap would work well on a ceramic stove top, they are so hard to get sparkly clean
New Orleanian, here! Glad you enjoyed our town, Emmy!🎭📿🎷
Going to New Orleans for the first time in my life next week, can't wait!
Love beignets! This video made me hungry!
How much you genuinely enjoyed those beignets and coffee made my heart smile lol 😂😊❤
I grew up in Maryland but for some reason my mother always made coffee (stovetop percolater) with chicory and I love it. I make my own combo -- really good coffee beans that I grind and then add in a ratio of about 1 part chicory to 3 parts ground coffee (though I put a bit more chicory in than that). I get roasted chicory granules (I think it's from Frontier co-op) that work really well.
I use a chainmail scrubber to get bread dough off my hands
Whoa! That doap is a totally dope idea! 😆 I must find one!
Miss Emmy... You are just delightful. I can't have gluten but I love watching your videos to inspire me to make it gluten free. Your optimism inspired me to play around with recipes and because of that, I have the most perfect gluten free bread recipe that I came up with. I appreciate you! ♥️♥️♥️
Looks So Delicious!
Really, really good!
Those look sooo good. Oh my gosh.
Cafe Du Monde is amazing. We went there multiple times while in New Orleans. If you do not leave Cafe Du Monde completely covered in powdered sugar then you're doing something wrong.
I had these when I was pregnant with my youngest son (about 28 years ago). Haven't had them since, but still crave them!
They're so good.🤤
Yummy goodness! You just never disappoint!
❤ Awesome as always thanks
Beignets are fire!!! Love Cafe du Monde
beignets are the best! i've never gotten a chance to visit new orleans but i've made them twice and they really are as good as you describe them
I lived in New Orleans and never did I have beignets while I lived their. When I go to visit I go to the French quarter and get some. Hope you had an awesome trip there.
I just bought DOAP and excited to try out since I make a lot of bread! Thanks Emmy.
I was so excited to see your shirt! I'm from Abita Springs and have been to the mystery museum many times.
🧡🧡🧡
Chobani Extra Creamy Oat Milk is a great substitute for cow's milk in coffee. Don't get the other brands. Chobani is it.
Oatly plant based coffee creamer is awesome.
❤ Simply Delicious ❤ The food looks good too 😋
I just love your channel and you are cute as a button! Thank you also from my hubby for all the ideas and foods we have gotten by watching you!❤😊
Hi Emmy, Can you do a video on how to make homemade honey buns from scratch using the honey from your bees?
I’m surprised you didn’t drizzle some of your honey on them! They’re often served with some as well as the powdered sugar 😋
The doap looks cool - will have to check that out. One of the best ways to clean glutenous dough or batter off bowls and tools is to soak for a few minutes in really cold water with or without dish soap. The cold water causes the gluten to harden a bit, and that makes it easier to clean off.
Hey !! Northshore girlie here !! Im happy you enjoyed your visit !!
I would commit regicide for a Claire Saffitz and Emmymade collab video. 🥺
Emmy, I felt those last words! I think I have developed a wheat sensitivity and try to eat mostly gluten free but once in a while I decide to play the let's see if the food that usually hurts my stomach hurts my stomach today game lol! The beignets looked absolutely delicious! ❤
next time you make them try drizzling them with honey instead of the powdered sugar, we do that alot in NOLA too
I had some of these YEARS ago in Savannah Georgia & they served ours with warm honey to drizzle on & they were so delicious !! Highly recommend if you make these again !❤️
Emmy that in my home country Hungary called Egérke=mouse and we do a shape like a mouse. Yum yum. Thank you for sharing New Orleans😊🎉❤
We never saw you eat the possum! 🤔
Doap looks so dope! 😜 What a great little gadget. Might have to get one myself.
emmy! how do claire's compare to cafe du monde's? please please please let us know!
These hit the spot, but not an exact dupe. Cafe Du Monde's are simultaneously airy and chewy, and while this recipe captured the puffy chewiness, the interior was denser.
Aww you were down my way! I hope yall had a great visit!
"Gently ... and with conviction!" lol
I like that vintage Hazel Atlas Criss Cross bowl.
"Just surrender to getting sugar all over you, and enjoy!" - Best advice before Cafe Du Monde!
Lol, I have an Abita Mystery House t-shirt as well. That place is great.
Ill second that to the yeast. In school i didmt realized i grabbed the actives dry yeast instead of instant dry yeast. So say my dinner rolls came out like playdo
I've never had beignets, but it seems like they have the same vibe as funnel cakes that you can get at fairs in the summer. Like if a funnel cake and a donut had a baby, it would be a beignet.
We have a version in Brazil, but rounded. We call it “sonho” which means Dream 😊
They remind me of Dutch oliebollen... We also eat it with powdered sugar. Not sure if the dough is similar.
I have silicon scrubbers with much finer nobblies than the DOAP but they seem to be pretty similar. I mostly use them to very very quickly clean up grease. They're stunningly good at getting the dish soap all through the oil or grease (and letting the enzymes do their emulsifying goodness) and then it just washes away with almost no effort. (They also work great at cleaning dough off hands -- I haven't tried much on work surfaces.)
As a mould maker, I reckon the doap would work well to get plaster off of hands and tools as well! Had the same problems as you with plaster 😅
As far as scrubbing help goes I like Chore Boy.
It's an abrasive cloth that is great on pans, and dishes without damaging them.
The Doap scrubber looks a little awkward. I like something that can easily get into all the crevices.
for dough stuck on your hands I normally just put more dry flour on my hands and scrub dry really aggressively. It works pretty well but doap sounds interesting.
Love Cafe Du Monde, been there several times. Community Breakfast Blend is my go to coffee!
These look more like cafe beignet’s version which because of the eggs was almost like choux pastry (which I prefer). Drooling here. And will definitely look into Doap, as I do regular sourdough bread making and run into similar issues like you when cleaning up.
Hi Emmy! Love your videos! Thanks for being awesome.
🧡
Oh yum!
That Doap is so cool! I’m curious if it would work well on dried on/dregs of scrambled egg in the pan? Thats another thing that always gets stuck in my dish brush
Great video!
