As a native American myself. I appreciate the brief history... I see a lot of comments about the bag... A lot of the reason why the bag was used.... Is generally the dry ingredients were mixed and kept in a bag because when indigenous people were hurded to reserves and settlements, more often than not they were forced to leave again and again and couldn't bring more than they can carry, so at least mixed like this (not always in a bag but old jars, old flour sacks etc, because it was easier to transport one mix, than it would be a bag of flour, a container of salt etc

In the 80's we did alot of traveling and camping, my mother would prep bread put the ingredients in bread bags and usually when we got to where we could make a meal the dough was great for wrapping around a stick and placed near the fire or small balls and toasted like a marshmallow, miss you mom😘

Hi Emmy, I usually don’t comment on these UA-cam videos. I watch them on my Roku and I would have to go on line to do this which I am doing now. I’m an old man and old enough to be your father, but I so much enjoy your videos and have really fallen in love with you, lol when I was a child, my father was in the military stationed in West Germany on the border with what was then East Germany and I went to the department of Defense schools there and I had a Korean school teacher who was so different from anyone I ever knew up until that point. I came from kind of an abusive background, my father was an army, sergeant and rough and gruff, but this teacher was so soft-spoken and kind she made an impression on me that I’ve never forgotten and ever since I’ve discovered your videos. I remember her every time. I just am in nostalgic Wonderland when I watch your videos so I had to reach out and thank you thank you thank you. I love your videos and yes, I’ll say it and I’ll say it out loud. I love you too. Keep up the good work.

Write on bag what more need to be added and you can just bake it later when you need it on trip and add the wet stuff and fats and you don't need to drag more then you need with you or buy flour and sugar and so on when you are where you going and then have to much you throw when going home or need drag home extra packages.

In South Africa they sell dough like this in a plastic bag at the super markets. So if you want to make your own bread you can. We usually use it for "vetkoek", a deep fried dough that you add curried minced meat too or butter and jam.

The nostalgia of a shared bread/cake! We used to make one we called Herman the German, a spiced natural yeast cake which was so delicious. I’ve long since lost the recipe but it was so fun passing the starter between friends.

Making the bread in the bag might be interesting for an autolyzing self kneading dough, but I'm not sure what the advantage of using the bag over a bowl is when you have to kneed it outside of the bag and roll it out anyway.

Thanks for the friendship bread historical " and the Portable recipe also good for older homes, with older plumbing that can't tolerate pieces of bread dough washed down the drain...I think the yeast in the recipe expands in a warm dark water pipe, could be our imagination but good to have an alternative plan

I’ve made the King Cake mix from Mam Papaul that includes a bag for mixing the dough. It works pretty well, but I still prefer my KitchenAid’s dough hook. I had to delay watching this video until I finished making my weekly starter-based dough. This time I’m making pizza and cinnamon buns (using the same dough)! Adding a little baking soda to whole wheat and oat doughs also helps with the oven spring.
