    Birthday Song: (Hurra For Deg)
Hurra for deg som fyller ditt år,
    Ja deg vil vi gratulere.
Alle i ring omkring deg vi står,
Å se nå vil vi masjere.
Bukke, nikke, neie, snu oss omkring,
Danse for deg med hopp og sprett og spring.
Ønske deg av hjertet alle gode ting,
Og si meg så hva vil du mere?
    GRATULERE!

I think I'm in love! Been studying Swedish for almost 2 years now and it's fun to hear how the two languages are so similar yet so different at times. You have a pleasant and calm way of speaking. Tack så mycket/takk så mye!

Thanks for including the "birthday song" during your class. More than the actual translation, it provides an insight as to the culture and perspective of the Norwegian people. It helped me to remember some of the things from family gatherings at my Great-Grandfather's house when I was a youth. I am enjoying your lessons and hope you continue to provide information an insight into the language, people, and culture of Norway. Respect to you, and my sincere thanks for your efforts.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay in Norway and that my videos were helpful! but yes it is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE here (Like i just payed 8 dollars for a coke at a restaurant expensive). It's taken a while to get used to, but Norway is a very wealthy country, that's why things are so expensive. Salaries are higher, but taxes are also very high and things are still expensive so Norwegians don't go out as often as Americans, but the Norwegian standard of living is among the highest in the world.

Boka is definitely the correct way to say "the book". "Ei" is just the feminine version. the improper way is how the Oslo dialect has merged "Ei" and "En" into the common "En"

I am from Norway and Nynorsk is both written and spoken. In school we have to learn both. The reason is that if we receive a formal letter we have to write back in what they used. This is mostly just a "stupid" (I think so) thing we have to do at work.

    • @proggie7386
      @proggie7386 9 років тому +1

Kristine Aalberg Well that's not really correct. Nynorsk is one of the official, written languages, and is simply based on how people speak (search for Ivar Åsen, those who want to read more on this). So people don't speak nynorsk, they write nynorsk and speak their dialect, which might be similar.
For those not familiar with nynorsk, it's basically just a language that came after we split from Denmark, and some people wanted a "norwegian"-language, given we had been under danish-control, and therefore been using danish as a written language. This is why we still today have the interesting difference in written and oral language, where we can easily communicate with Sweden orally, and Denmark in writing.
Btw: I think it's nice on paper that you will get a response in your own language if you write a formal letter, but some people are actually so bad at nynorsk that it might have the opposite effect. Where I work people writing nynorsk is known to have responded with "Please rewrite this in bokmål, so it's actually understandable".

You are possibly the best Norwegian teacher on UA-cam in my opinion, but please please please, when listing things like numbers, days, months etc, just slow down by literally a second per each word, and leave the text up longer... you probably don’t realise but the text you put on screen literally stays for 1 second... for someone like me who wants to copy down things like days, numbers etc, it would be so much better if I could just copy them as you list them. I’m a fast typer but still need to pause and go back several times when you list stuff..
But thank you, you really are amazing, there aren’t very many GOOD Norwegian teachers on UA-cam, so I’m super happy to have you. :)

Hi, Michelle! I'm so happy that you're enjoying our beautiful city of Oslo - and I completely agree with you, it is amazing here!
Just a quick note on the different "kinds" of nouns you've been explaining so well. In elementary and middle school, we're taught to differentiate between hankjønn (masculine nouns), hunkjønn (feminine noun) and intetkjønn ("no gender" noun). So the key is (like in most of the European languages) to know how each noun "gender" is conjugated.
