Jim Steinman wrote this. Along with big hits by Meat Loaf (Bat Out of Hell, I’d Do Anything for Love), Bonnie Tyler (Total Eclipse of the Heart), and Air Supply (Making Love Out of Nothing at All). There are many others, but you get the idea. He wrote very cinematic, big songs.
Yes they DO exist...for sure! I had one too for almost 45 years! That's why no one else could ever compare. I absolutely love when Black Pegasus gets so excited over music!! 😄😄😄
I love this song too. Me and my 3 sons all play console and computer games. My oldest son used to play this song when he was doing dungeon runs in the computer game World of Warcraft. It was in my playlist too and when it came on while in a dungeon I had to keep it on repeat. It was perfect.
Jim Steinman was an amazing songwriter, composer, piano player and producer. And this song KILLS IT whenever it's used. Footloose, Short Circuit 2, Shrek 2, and Saints Row the Third... the last one is during a mission where you can choose vengeance or saving your friends. I choose saving Shaundi and company Every. Single. TIME. Which is the canon ending because the game producers couldn't conceive of any way their Boss WOULDN'T do this. ALSO on Glee, where the future Supergirl Melissa Benoist sang it but dressed up as a knockoff Wonder Woman... still absolutely hilarious in hindsight. (Also how long it took them to do a musical episode with two of the better singers from Glee and the original Collins from RENT in the casts of Supergirl and The Flash, AND a DC character named the Music Meister that they got _another_ of the stronger Glee singers to play, but I digress.)
David Copperfield did a TV special where he "levitated" across the Grand Canyon, while Bonnie Tyler sang this song while waiting for him on the other side.
He's likely not proud of that one given that he has never included it in his compilation specials (just like the Bermuda Triangle trick). Pretty easy to see that they simply cut to a replica of him.
Bonnie Tyler has an incredible voice. This song was used in the movie FOOTLOOSE. The raspy vocals that she has is incredible. This is another song that Bonnie has had huge success with that is written & produced by Jim Steinman, famous for his writing and producing for MEATLOAF. His sound is so recognizable. He also wrote Bonnie's song "Total Eclipse of the Heart".
This was also the theme song for a TV show called CoverUp from 1984. Ended with an accidental gun shot and the main characters death. RIP Jon Erik Hexum
shot himself in thehead the gun had blanks in it. for those who do not know bullets are propelled by the gas produced by igniting of the gun powder blanks have no projectile but the gas still have to go somewhere out the barrel
The song is from the early 80’s and men and women at that time are VERY different from men and women today. Saying she’s asking a lot isn’t accurate, well maybe in 2024 sure but not in 1984. Then too, what women (at least most) gave back was equivalent as well. My interpretation of “fresh from the fight” isn’t an actual fight(MMA/Boxing etc) but a hard days work. 🤷♂️ but that’s just my interpretation. I remember this was the main theme song for the TV show Cover Up. It ended after 1 season because the main male lead died from an accidental discharge of a gun he was holding.

Bonnie Tyler is from my hometown called Swansea (pronounced Swanzee) in Wales uk, she is a legend here in Wales and this is one of my all time fave songs of her's and was used in the movie Footloose soundtrack.
So pleased that you found Bonnie Tyler! Please look for the official video for Total Eclipse Of The Heart. The official video for that is *beyond weird!!!* Edit....just found BPs reaction from a month ago. 😊
@@snowysnowyriver that's what I was going for, that Jim wrote that song for Bonnie. Contrary to popular belief, the background singer who was doing the " turnaround" part in the song wasn't Meat Loaf, but sounded similar. I believe the song was originally going to be used in a vampire based play written by Jim, but the plans fell through.
Interesting you mentioned Total Eclipse Of The Heart, because the other link between that and Holding Out For A Hero is none other than Jim Steinman (of Mealoaf collaboration fame) - both songs have that Steinman bombast we know and love. I remember Holding Out For A Hero first from being the theme tune to the TV show "Cover Up", but that version was sung by someone else - it wasn't until many years later that I found out Bonnie did a version (and today is the first time I'd seen the video for it!).
Good ole Bonnie aka Gaynor from Swansea Wales uk....same place as actress singer Catherine Zeta Jones....about 33 miles from me..she did very well considering docs thought she would not be able to sing again.

Written by Jim Steinman, the same guy that wrote both of Meatloaf's 'Bat Out of Hell' albums. You should also check out "It's All Coming Back to Me Now", written by him, originally by a group called 'Pandora's Box', (but more famously covered by Celine Deon). In the early 80s Bonnie was holding out for a hero. However, by the 2000s she was settling for Keith from accounts (whilst she was still able to have kids) - He''s no hero, but he's a nice lad with his own house and his own hair.
Wow this really breaks it down to the raw humanity of loving someone, accepting them and sadly saying goodbye! I was impressed with the vulnerability that James Blunt showed in this song!
There was a show in the 80s that used this as the theme song that I loved. He's written I'll Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That), Bat Out of Hell & more. The opening chorus as well as melody is taken from Jim Steinman's song "Stark Raving Love" from the solo album "Bad for Good" Which I do recommend listening to. I remember back in the mid 1980's... There was a TV Series starring Jennifer O'Neil and Jon-Erik Hexum called Cover Up... The main title track for the series... Was "Holding Out For A Hero"... However... It was a cover version that was used and performed by the Singer and Actress Elizabeth Daily... The reason that Bonnie Tyler's original version wasn't used... Was probably due to the fact that Elizabeth Daily was dating the male star of Cover Up... Jon-Erik Hexum... Sadly he later died from an incident involving a blank cartridge round that was fired on the set of the TV Series Cover Up... You can still watch full episodes of Cover Up on UA-cam... And you can also listen to Elizabeth Daily's TV Series version too. 👍

He put that gun to his own head. And the percussion killed him
Was used in a TV series about models in the 1980s.
Best song and best scene from "Footloose" with the tractors playing chicken.
