For your fingerless mitts, I would suggest using a tapestry needle and thick cotton thread to pick up the knit and purl stitches in the row below. Very Pink Knits has a tutorial for lifelines in ribbing including reactive lifelines. You basically put in two reactive life lines, one for the knits on the right side then flip the glove inside out and pick up the knits on the wrong side which are also the purls on the right side. Once you have all your stitches transferred from your lifelines to your needle, you can unpick the round you made the mistake on. Hope this helps. Good luck!
I also went to KnitCity last weekend!! My mom and I did the same thing, we started at one end and looked at all the booths first. Then we sat for a bit and consulted our notes on pattern idea lol. Then we went back around and bought some stuff! I actually ended up buying that new cotton linen yarn from the wandering flock in the citrine colourway!!!
Ahhhh it's so pretty! I hope you do something fun with it! 😄 I feel like Knit City really had us figured out-when I saw all the chairs set up just outside the doors to the marketplace I was like "Ah yes, this is where I do my Ravelry research" 😂
Love your energy! I have the same reservations about yarn festivals (currently accumulating faster than I can knit) so I like your approach of thinking of it like an art gallery. For me, I am mostly into solids over variegated yarn, but I am very susceptible to the tonals that indie dyers have- once I saw the subtle tone shading knit up, it's so hard to go back to the commercially dyed solid colors, they seem so flat!
Great episode! I love that you're almost done with your cardigan; that's exciting. The paper marbling is just the coolest and such a fun project. I'm glad you two got that bonding time. Hope all is going well with your book. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
It's a totally different gauge, and a different style, but I have heard very good things about the Ghost Whisperer by Park Williams and it was the first thing that came to mind when you said a mohair top. Just eyeballing, it looks modifiable and it looks like you can even do a little math and change the gauge. There are over 800 projects and people have done some really fun things with it. Maybe just look at those projects for inspiration! Gorgeous mohair - I'm sure it will work up beautifully!
ali, i bought two skeins of the same mohair, same colorway, at vogue knitting live in nyc this year!!! i also wasn't 100% sure about what pattern i'd choose but think i have settled on the cloudbow too-can't wait to see yours :)
I've had this happen, I think, with very tightly knit stitches. The purls ARE there if you turn it inside out so that you're working on the reverse side of the ribbing -- but you will have to pull some of the purl stitches down one or two rows (ergo dropping them) to figure out where to pick them up.
As a former summer camp counselor, I am here to tell you that you can do paper marbling with just shaving cream and some liquid water color paints! It's awesome! I love what you created though.
Picking up rib stitches for the first time on a super sticky/rustic yarn in a dark color is a VERY ali move 😂thanks for the shout out. I'm interested in seeing what people have to say!! I have two full skeins of hedgehog fibres kidsilk in moonstone so maybe we'll be knitting project twinsies while i figure out what to do with them!! If you do the return you can get more yarn...
The Cloudbow top is a beautiful pattern for mohair. I’ve also heard great things about the Lento sweater (which can also be modified into a lighter version for warm weather).
@@AliMakesEverything In case you haven’t seen it yet, Jana from Finnish Knitting Stories recently had an episode where she showed off all her Lentos. She’s made this pattern many times before, in both winter and summer weights. If it helps to see what it looks like when this pattern is made up (and/or how it can be modified), definitely check it out!
Koff pon your knit stitches. Poff kon your purls. (Knit off: Purl on / Purl off: knit on) The two set up stitches are just the ‘on’ parts of that, so pon kon. If I forget how to start kitcheners or bind off, I just think ‘Always cough upon your kitcheners’ and then the rest comes back to me. Works for me 🤷🏻♀️
Unrelated, but you were asking about non superwash no nylon socks and felting recently. I was watching some of Fiber Love Diary breed study videos and she has a series from a couple years ago called Soxtravaganza where she spun up some single breed samples and knit swatches to test for machine wash and dry capabilities of some breeds that people say are good sock breeds. IIRC Southdown was the best result, but the 4(?) videos are worth the watch!
Always lovely to hear from another Toronto maker! Hi from KW~ I appreciate what you're saying about yarn shows being like art galleries, but also... I walk into art galleries and want to buy everything, so the metaphor fails there with me. And that's why I came home with a massive haul from Knit City LOL. That long mustard yellow cardigan is fantastic - I love it with your poppy top too, they go together so well. If you're looking for a cute simple lacey mohair top - there's actually another pattern in the same pompom as the Cloudbow - which I've had my eye on for a while: The Plumetis? You might have to rejig it to suit your mohair quantity, but it might fit your bill. Looking forward to mroe!
Hahahahahaha you make a great point 😂 And yes the Plumetis is beautiful! I’ve settled on the Cloudbow but since I had to buy the whole issue, the Plumetis might be the answer to what I do with all my leftover mustard mohair…
@@AliMakesEverything I'm watching the rest of your backlog now and that would be a great solution, considering it looks like you have two sweaters quantities instead of one. It'd use any leftover merino that you have too - you already have a perfect colour match :)
I was going to suggest White Mountains by Midori Hirose but I'm a little confused on the pattern (I had to double check). The pattern calls for worsted weight but there is a sample in mohair. She has a "Light" version as well but that's just DK. Maybe you would like to take a look.
So happy I found your channel! You may have inspired me to make a squiggle sweater of my own and I may or may not have paused multiple times on your project page to figure out if it was a pattern or not. Also, as a French Canadian myself I can confirm that even in my French classes in high school and my cultural linguistic classes in University they made us read the s a m e thing. And honestly, no offence to my ancestors, but I also found those books incredibly boring 😂
Hahahahaha it’s not a real pattern but I did throw my charts up on there so feel free to use them if you’re a similar size or could match it by switching up the gauge! I’d also be happy to send you the editable file if you have a way to edit AI/EPS/SVG files 😊 So glad it wasn’t just my school torturing us with those book picks 😂
The Problem is i guess the same as why you could not do the Provisional cast on on the ribbed top. You did not pick up whole knit stitches but soemthing in between the knits and purls (due to the direction you were knitting - top down vs. Bottom up). I fear you will either have to fudge or reknit that thing.
If it’s super sticky yarn, could you brave taking it off the needles/lifeline and just unravel to “find” the stitches? You may end up going back one or more rows but at least it should unravel to reveal the stitches as they’re supposed to be? Good luck!!
This might be the answer if I can't figure out what's going on-because it's the opposite direction they're knit from, it would either mean it ends up shorter than the other one, or that I get a jog in the ribbing to pick up and knit in the other direction 🥲 Nothing is ever simple 😂
I want that cardigan so badly but I don't know if I can stand to knit that much flat stockinette, annnnd I have three dogs that are secretly piranhas so I worry about nails and teeth catching on stitches 🙈 Also I hate when you can't find multicolored yarn samples of it knit up, so much yarn looks gorgeous in the skein and then pools something awful when it's knit up. I did recently buy a couple skeins of sock yarn that are beauuuutiful in the skein but I have seen it knit up and it's horrendously busy. I suspected this would be the case and bought them anyway, they're gonna be socks and I don't mind socks being obnoxious, soooo 😂
Well bugger....I just discovered that I was unsubscribed and I've missed 3 other episodes. I've resubscribed and on the bright side it means I have something to look forward to over my afternoon coffee break for the next 3 days.😃 There is something to be said for attending a yarn festival. The energy and fun that other fellow knitters bring to the event makes it so much fun.
Very cheery video, love your long cardi and wish I could have attended KnitCity (wow, the mohair from Wondering Flock!). I prefer your presentation after 20 odd minutes when you stopped saying 'like' multiple times in a sentence. Less 'like' results in a more sophisticated presentation, please keep it up.

I saw you at Knit City and was going to say hi, but my friends were leaving for lunch and were waiting for me. Sorry I didn’t stop. Maybe next time!
Lunch with friends is by far the most important, that sounds lovely 😊 I hope you had a great time at the event!

Oooh this is a great one! So much variety in the different projects! Thank you! 😄
I just found you today, great video! I was a volunteer at Knit City. It was so much fun. My acquisitions are.... considerable 🤯
Oh wow, I can only imagine-I only spent about an hour there so with all the extra time onsite volunteering? Dangerous 😂
@@AliMakesEverything super dangerous. Also, a lot of influence happening from others! It was so fun though. :)

LOL you are...not wrong 😂 Love being twins in our yarn use indecision 😂
I went to my first fiber festival this month too! Maryland Sheep & Wool. I went in with a plan and a budget and stuck to it. Very proud of myself.
Bravo! It's so hard in the face of so much beautiful yarn 😂
The Cloudbow top is a beautiful pattern for mohair. I’ve also heard great things about the Lento sweater (which can also be modified into a lighter version for warm weather).

That cardigan looks amazing.
Thank you so much! 😄
I absolutely see the purl bumps to pick up! Don’t have any idea how to communicate it though. I do live in the TO area, if that helps!
Whoops, just noticed this video is 3 months old!! 🤪🤪🤪

That's spooky! I'm making a n no frills cardigan in a mustard yellow. Although I think I'll make mine short. I'm still on the button band
Actually having seen yours I may go full length
Hahahaha it's clearly the correct colour choice! 😍
