A warning about using a provisional cast on with ribbing: if you provisionally cast on and then work in both directions (bottom up and top down), your stitches will be one half stitch off. You can't see this in stockinette but it will be noticeable in ribbing. You might want to make a small swatch to see if this bothers you or if the change from 2x2 to 1x1 ribbing in the tank hides it enough.
WOW thank goodness for UA-cam, this is a great point that had obviously not occurred to me! I’ll have to contemplate this more! Thank you for saving me a nasty surprise 😂
I'm a true believer that planning makes all the difference in my happiness with the finished product. I love the techniques you use to visualize and map out your ideas!
Yes! I love this as a tool so much (though your mockups are much nicer than my quick-drawn/scribble sweaters). I have a folder of potential color-combos I've loved as well where I spent all this time pairing different yarns and saving the yarn photos together into one shot...maybe someday I'll find the perfect project for them. But I have been very happy with the finished products and find I love the planning process as much as the actual knitting.
Maybe you could start the Ripple in your Budgie yarn and if you are running out of yarn towards the top or you’re feeling like it doesn’t suit you, introduce a fade like you saw in that scarf on Ravelry, using a colour you feel suits you more?
Maybe Elanide by Audrey Borrego would highlight your Budgie yarn? With some less expensive, commercial solid(s)? Lots of inspiration in the projects for possibilities: short sleeves, different stripe combos, just the sleeves in the featured yarn...
i will say like regarding you trying to figure out what to do with your skein of budgie, with variegated and speckled yarns they REALLY look different depending on the base. you might not like that high neck top because the image you picked of that hat was with aran weight. the black specks look far more pronounced in the aran weight. you don’t want to make another swatch out of that same budgie yarn, but what if you picked up stitches on your swatch and just used the purple to knit with on top of it to see if you like what the colors look like. i would also take a picture of YOUR swatch and use that as your image while trying to mock up the tank top. even a dk weight can take the dye differently and produce a very very different looking item. picking from another fingering weight would probably give you a more accurate idea. also you can filter on ravelry for projects that only use one color! otherwise this is a super great video!! i’m also a graphic designer but i don’t ever try to mock up my knits like this. however i don’t do much colorwork (yet). i think i’ll probably use image trace when trying to figure out a big colorwork project in the future!
It was a process 😂 In the end, these shelves were an evolution of the ones he built in my last place, which were in the little entryway hallway of a condo, so we made them as small as could be to fit the largest standard hardcover size, so this time around, we made it about the same but just a little bit roomier 😄
This is a little late, as this was around four months ago. Yet could you have taken a picture of the purl side, as well knit side if your swatch then just copied each part in each little section to “make ribbing” in photoshop. If that makes any sense 😂

@@AliMakesEverything I'm so glad you hadn't started! I was worried you had already cast on and I was too late.
Wow, great tip
Pro tip blurr the photo of your yarn swatch/ball/skein from the website it makes it easier to get an accurate color of the yarn
Ooh this is a great idea!

Absolutely agreed! Thank you so much! 😄

You are really inspiring.

🥲 I absolutely will!
I'm a graphic designer, I've been knitting for almost 5 years and never thought about doing mockups! Thank you for the inspiration!
I don’t blame you, often I finish work and the last thing I want to do is open my computer 😂 I hope it’s helpful on a future project! 😄

Oooh the idea of introducing a fade as a backup option is clever, thank you! 😄

So many possibilities, these are great ideas! Thank you! 😄
I never thought of this. Thank you. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
You too, I hope this helps a future project! 😄
What a cool process!! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching! 😄
SUPER cool. Definitely going to try mocking up my next project 👀
Can’t wait to be the one helping you try to mock up your next project 😂
FIRST !!! Been waiting for this video to drop !
Lol guess I’ll have to be quicker next time ! Another great video ❤
It helps that he’s my brother in law and was beside me when the video went up, he cheated, you’re the real first 😂
Nailed it 👏🏻
This was a great episode, but I definitely missed the book talk at the end.
🥲 This makes me happy, it’ll be back next time!

Just wondering how you and your dad came up with the measurements for the box size for your bookshelves??? I LOVE looking at them as you talk. Lol
