What song should we do next? Leave a comment and SUBSCROB 🔥🥺💦
You should cover "Old chariot" ! With your voice, this will be epic !
@@walpurgisnacht6420 He already did :D. It's on his channel
Turisas- The March of the Varangian Guard
My mother told me!
The pirates who don't do anything!! Would be epic!
tbh im pretty sure this recording was the first time I’ve ever sung this song while sober. thanks for having me (and thank you for the excuse to sing Atlantic Canadian folk music)!!! 🎉🎉
Use to sing this in Choir back home in Newfoundland, haven't heard it in awhile
Love you, my little 🇨🇦 songbird, drunk or sober! You're incredible, and you do our country proud! I challenge any Canadian who thinks otherwise to come to Alberta and I'll aggressively change their minds! 😘
I should have known this was a suggestion from you xD
I think you forgot to put sure after pretty. But ether way its true.
Yeah we rarely sing it sober in Halifax, at least amongst my friends.
Ship boutta sink with all this drip we got on 🥶
One must always have drip and the drip should always be respected!
@CalebHyles I'd say you, Jonathan, and Peyton got the best of the group
We gonna make it outa Tortuga with this one⁉️🤞🏼🤞🏼
That's the cringiest thing I've ever heard someone say.
@@zerentheunskilled No........ Otherwise, you've barely heard anything cringe in your life.
For anyone interested:
Barrett's Privateers was originally written and sung by Canadian Folk artist Stan Rogers in the 70s.
Stan Rogers was tragically killed in 1983 when the plane he was travelling home after a Folk Festival caught fire in midair (Air Canada 797) and despite landing safely, he was unable to get off before a sudden and violent flashover occurred, consuming the entire cabin.
He was 33.
ua-cam.com/video/eUD3ZkuOPEY/v-deo.html Good episode about flight 797
Musicians seem to have a very bad track record with planes. Maybe more should use trains instead.
@@cparle87 To be fair, trains can't get you overseas. And even then, he could have ended up like the titular "Last of Barrett's Privateers" if he'd gone by boat, anyway, lol 😅...
Oh my goodness
Yeah I heard the Real McKenzies' version of this before I ever heard of Stan Rogers, then got into his back catalogue. Almost every song is a classic, he's a national treasure in Canada I hear
And thus the whole crew is now finally together for a song
and damn is it a magical experience
weren't all six of them together for "Roll The Old Chariot Along"?
@@XXsirstrawhatXX Richard didn’t have a singing verse on that one
Thank you for getting my jumper correct! 💚🏴☠️
Jon: The captain of the ship. He was once a pirate, but he was let out under the condition he would become a privateer and only practice piracy when sanctioned. He's behaving, but there's just something about the freedom of piracy that calls to him.
Caleb: The quartermaster, Jon's best friend, and right hand man. Whenever Jon got in trouble, Caleb was the one to get him out of trouble. It was Caleb who was able to broker a deal to become privateers rather than being executed.
Colm: A bard who came aboard and just joined the group and became the first mate. He keeps the ship moving with his music and many instruments. Work songs, folk songs, shanties, he knows them all. If the ship is a living thing, and Jon is the brain, Colm is the beating heart.
Anna: A woman who snuck aboard disguised as a man. She talks herself out of just about anything, and is a master with a cutlass. She and Colm often write music together.
Peyton: A navyman who is tasked with ensuring the pirates turned privateers don't do anything funny. But he finds himself growing closer to them, seeing their ways, and fitting in great. He still pushes back from time to time on things that cross a line, helping keep the ship in line.
Richaad: Also a navyman, but far more relaxed than Peyton. He also wound up making music with Colm and Anna. Sometimes he and Peyton butt heads on restraining the pirates from doing, well, pirate things.
I love this lore for each of the singers, I hope Jonathan makes it canon
I'd see Peyton as the Ship's Marine, but maybe it's the hair :P
Stellar character description, mate! Now it needs to be realized in movie or in animation.
@@vengoislearningtoplaydrums5626 That right there sounds like an awesome Kickstarter idea. VLDL did with with epic NPC. Why can't we get a 40 min musical?
@@helenaalexandra4197 Now this is perfect. Peyton would absolutely be the First Marine of the ship!!!! His inner viking would be perfect for boarding and landing parties!
I love how it’s all modern with a somewhat Pirate feel to the art, and then Jon just has a sword.
Rest in peace Stan Rogers, and thank you for giving the world this brilliant song before you left us. An incredibly talented, brilliant musician, taken at 33 years old . . FAR TOO EARLY! This song means so much to so many people, myself included, so massive thanks to everyone who played, sang, etc. on this brilliant cover. And thanks to whoever did the engineering, the mix sounds great, absolutely amazing. IMHO, damn near perfect! 🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
It makes sense that Jon was the last survivor. He has a lot of experience as a space pirate.
“We’d fire no guns, shed no tears”
Me: *sheds all the tears*
You guys got extra room on the ship?
But fr tho so cool to see all my favorite artists do something together!!! Can’t wait to see what you all do next! No matter what heading you guys have, count me in to hoist those sails! ⚓
As a Atlantic Canadian who has heard this song god knows how many time. This cover is straight up 🔥🔥🔥
Will someone please write these folks their own musical, this crew is the greatest musical group in the history of everything
Thinking of it, getting a story is taking some doing
They could just wing it like Daft Punk but over a swashbuckling D&D campaign
Team JoYo and the HCU are currently the biggest musical teams on UA-cam, plus the yearly Dines Shredfest.
UA-cam musician lore!!!
As a Canadian that has sang this in a Halifax bar whilst drunk on Whiskey, I have to say, this cover is amazing. Alestorm used to have the best cover of this, but this is now the best cover of this song. Long live Stan Rogers. Thanks for this cover!
This is awkward... Stan passed a long time ago... Unlike the Mary Ellen Carter he's not gonna rise again
@@dmacjr55 Long live his music!!!
Lets GOOOO. Always a good morning with a new Jonathan Young drop. Crew's back together!
Sure the song is gonna be instantly added to my spotify playlist, but that art is killer
im a pirate
The last of my privateers
Seems fitting that Stan Rogers with his incredible deep voice and fun personality would have one of his bangers covered by Jonathan Young and the dopest gang of artists to come from UA-cam
Man I BOLTED to my pc when i saw the notification for this on my phone, this is absolute one of my favorite sailor songs and it is criminally underrated. This rendition does it more than enough justice
You: 🏃♂️ 💨
If you haven’t heard it yet, listen to Northwest Passage or Mary Ellen Carter by Stan Rogers.
Killer tune brother! Love it! Thanks for sharing y'all's music with all of us!
😀👍🐧🐧
Gotta say that I am loving the covers of some Canadian classics! Nobody does it like Stan Rogers but these covers are great and you can tell were done with some serious heart.
Your group sea shanty's always slap. Keep rocking on Young and crew
As a Nova Scotian born and raised and now living in New Brunswick this song has been a staple of my childhood going to farmer's markets over the years. Did an awesome job on this cover!
Absolutely loving the vocals, you guys got talent
May i recommend the other sea shanty metal covers they did? :D
As a Nova Scotian thank you for this great one
YO I LIVE IN HALIFAX!! And you bet your butts i've been singing this since i was kid on my dads knee. I was never expecting this song to get done! Thank you! you guys kicked ass
After all these awesome sea shanty covers, am I the only one who wants to see a rock opera about this pirate crew?
Been a hot minute since the Steelwork Sirens stormed the high seas with a new song. Good to see the crew still singing proudly together
I always look forward to Richards portion of the songs, his voice is perfect for these songs.
As a Haligonian born and raised, this song was the prelude to MANY a hangover.
I'd never heard of this song before and now it won't leave my head. Thus is fantastic!
As a broken man on a Halifax pier I confirm this is 🔥
Yay! More pirate mixes with the gang! We love these and cant wait to see more songs!! Piper Ally needs to be in the mix!
I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S *OUR* HALIFAX BUT AS A NOVA SCOTIAN I AM VERY HAPPY TO HEAR 'HALIFAX' EYYY
Diamond voices!!! Amazing sound!
Not many songs that I can listen to six thousand times and not get sick of it, this one never gets old.
How does a song sound so tragic and yet so triumphant at the same time? You people are magic makers, I swear.
Everytime I hear Colm's voice I feel like he's shaking my soul. Great work!
Cant get enough of these sea shanty covers guys, great stuff, keep em coming 🤘☠
Would like a cover of "The Downeaster Alexa" by Billy Joel up next - you guys and girl would rock that one 🤘
I always get so excited when you upload a shanty!!
Spectacular cover greetings from Halifax btw
Gotta love how the music cuts out at the end of the third verse to accent the singing!!!
This has most of the vocalists that I listen to regularly on this one song, and you all sound so good in this, so this may well be my favorite song you have done. Thanks so much for the music!
one of the nicer covers, still, Stan Rogers version will forever be lodged in the core of my heart.
I was introduced to this song through _AcapellaScience._ “And to think I take up sugar now!”
I’m not actually diabetic, just quoting the song. It’s about how Frederick Banting discovered how to treat Type-1 Diabetes with insulin, and it’s sung from the perspective of Leonard Thompson, who was Banting’s first successful patient. Thompson almost died in his teens, but thanks to Banting’s insulin treatment he managed to live until the age of 27, at which point his life was claimed by a bout of double-pneumonia.
This song is an absolute banger. Loved every minute of it. An excellent reimagining of a classic!
lol the fact that Colm just looks like normal
Mega 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
No one seems to recognize these tunes when I sing them lol. Thanks for keeping them alive.
Hi a Barrett from halifax here thanks for bringing this song of my people to more folks ❤
As someone that sailed out of Halifax for years with the RCN and then was thrown out of a bar in Key West for drunkenly singing this at the top of my lungs, this cover is awesome!
This makes my Nova Scotian heart happy :)
*Captain Barrett:* "We're going to catch that Yankee ship and loot her, boys!"
*American ship, turning for a broadside:* "Lol. Catch these cannonballs."
Yes! Was waiting since you and I talked at ASTL. Love it!
Cool! I grew up listening to Stan Roger's. Well done and glad to this type of music recreated.
Stan Rogers would be proud of this! DAMN FINE JOB!
This is probably the most American-patriotic song to ever come out of Canada and be about the US-British skirmishes between 1776 and 1812
As a Nova Scotian this makes me very happy
We need an entire Stan Rogers metal album
YOU GUYS ARE SO AWESOME SEPARATE BUT YOU GUYS DO PHENOMENAL WORK TOGETHER.
It's Shanty Awesome!! Hoping more soon! 🥳🥳
Sea Shanties are great, even better to see some Canadian written ones too!
Can't get enough! Thank you
YEAH, THE METAL SEA SHANTY CREW IS BACK!!!!!!
As a Canadian you guys did an AMAZING EPIC JOB! Thank you so much !! 🇨🇦💜🏴☠️
There's just nothing like singing "Goddamn 'em all" along as grumbly as possible.
I'm a baritone who LOVES shanties. Much like Stan Rogers, I often get bored singing the harmonies. Barrett's Privateers is one of the best for the voice part and it's the first shanty I fully learned. I love to lead it whenever there's a group of singers together, thank you for appealing to this very niche interest of mine!
born and raised in Newfoundland for all 25 years of my life. I've heard this song growing up all my life. and i have to say it now, Stan rogers would be outright shocked how well you all made this song work as a metal song... and then he'd likely ask you to sit down, sing the original and enjoy a few beer in da shed with him. turn into a shed party for the night before it ends, guarantee! I LOVE IT!!
They've got curved swords. Curved. Swords.
I must admit I was not a fan of this one at first I'm a big lover of the Alestorm version but this really grew on me.
GOD DAMM THEM ALL!
This is basically our provincial anthem, so thanks for metal-izing the song you hear in every Halifax pub after midnight.
Oh hell yeah
JY's back again
I love Stan Rogers! Would be awesome to see more songs from him!
This entire playlist was on repeat this entire week for me. I blasted it in my car. I am living for whoever is doing all that growly singing.
Fantastic work as usual, yall! 🔥
God damn them all ⚓️
Whoa. This is absolutely insane. I haven’t been in complete awe many times but this is likely the best song/version/production I’ve ever heard… ❤
Now let’s get this cover playing in all the bars in Halifax.
Musica novinha, muito bom. Brazil Fan here!!!!!!🤘🤘
I love this song - so excited for this cover!!
Absolutely incredible
I'm sorry, but this has gotta be my absolute favourite sea shanty 😁
Well thanks to the almighty algorithm for leading me here... as a long time fan of Stan Rogers' music (despite being born only about 6 months before he sadly passed away and on the other side of the Atlantic), I really gotta say this metal version is awesome!
As someone from Halifax I approve of this version of the song
I've listened to this song at least 7 times a day for the last week man, such a great rendition, prompting me to learn all the mariner terms out of curiosity. Awesome work, really
I really love this song! heard many versions of it over the years. it never gets old.
30 seconds in.. Pure awesomeness!
YESSSSSS JOHN GLAD TO SEE YALL WENT THIS ROUTE SINCE LAST VIDEO LESSSS GOOOOOOOO I RECOMENDED IT WOOOO IM SO HAPPY
The greatest union of vocals ever!!
I love this song
You're all so amazing, thank you for all these amazing sea shanty covers!
The unofficial sea shanty of the Royal Canadian Navy
I love this song. Great cover!
I'm guessing it's not feasible, but I'd pay good money for a CD of these tunes from everyone involved
Your sea shanties are always super great, thanks a lot!
I always get excited when I hear a sea shanty from you guys. Another awesome song! Job well done to all of you.
Fire as always!!!
Hooray for more sea shanties!
Love this song
Love this metal crew.
You guys need a name for your Sea Shanty Crew. A few more songs and you'll have yourself a full album.
