SMB Banana Blitz: No Death Run

- Run completing all 100 levels in Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz in a row without losing a single life.
This run was completed in July 2009; re-uploading to take advantage of the length limit being removed. I always did hate having to upload this run in parts...
so can I but not world 10!
Can you though
Nathaniel Bandy NATHAN!?
Wait what why is nobody mentioning you are here
Hey Guys, What's Wrong With Banana Blitz?
Note: I came back to correct these errors by autocorrect
lol hi
did you use a gamecube controller hack? Nobody can play this FRIGGEN WELL with a wii mote!!
omg this is ancient
Well uh i guess i could answer your question. There are several times where the camera in world 10 jitters unnaturally. That wouldn't happen without motion controls. I think claris is just really good at the motion controls.
@@rehtrop it is
No they didn't
Not gonna lie, this game really didn’t need a remake, if anything, one of the first few should have.
agreed
Banana Blitz was the worst option for a remake, in my opinion. Understandable for the Wii, but not the consoles of today. I’d rather have Sakura Edition (mobile) remade for today’s consoles, which would at this point be this without a jump button. I want my sliding text back dammit!
Yea game was trash
@Ian Elrod I *SCREAMED.*
aged well
I still don't get the hate for this game. The ability to jump removes all possible issues with the motion controls, since it's easy to re-adjust yourself using said jump ability.
Along with that, the music is fantastic, the backgrounds look great, the bosses are a nice addition, and and the gameplay itself is very polished and refined. I don't know why I keep seeing people say the game is too easy... like, even just try to unlock (not even beat, but unlock) Sinking Swamp/Ultra Heaven and try saying it's too easy.
I disagree on the level designs being uninteresting. I can think of lots of great and memorable stages off the top of my head, like climbing the dual towers in Pirates Ocean, scaling pyramids in Detritus, going as fast as possible using consecutive boost pads in Cobalt Caverns, navigating loop-de-loops in Sinking Swamp, navigating a circular maze in Space Case, and so on.
And I mean, if nothing else, it's at least better than Jr. and Adventure.
The people who talked about the uninteresting levels are most likely people who just watched the start. The first levels are rather blank, but that's forgivable- it's just because it gives the player time to get used to it all.
One thing minor that does bother me about this game is the lack of names. I loved seeing the awesome names in Touch and Roll (yeah, it was the only one i played, I know that some levels in that game are taken from other games) and previous games, I at least wish there were some cool names.
Because people are like that
Personally, I can understand why people dislike Banana Blitz. The motion controls neutered the sense of precision obtainable with an analog stick, and while jumping is a good way to reset yourself, I feel that the level design was compromised because of that. Using the game's physics to your advantage was almost completely pointless, as jumping let you ascend easily. On top of that, the levels became spacious to the point that the dev team decided having a 2-minute long timer was necessary in some levels.
I do agree that the soundtrack has some sweet tunes, but the backgrounds all look like slightly-out-of-focus HDRIs, which, while some do look pleasing, don't give you a good sense of depth or a sense that you've covered a substantial distance from start to finish. The boss fights felt entirely superfluous; we only see the final boss before starting the game, and I have no idea what the monkeys ultimately accomplished through their endeavors. (I'd say something about the game's polish here, but I don't really know what to say.) I'll concede that the game is a real ball-kicker, but it feels like it's hard for all the wrong reasons.
To be fair, these levels can be memorable--heck, a few would be right at home in the GameCube games--but I don't think they're nearly as memorable as the levels from the GameCube games.
However, nothing in the game feels like it has any impact. Bumpers sound unimpressively weak, the ball doesn't produce sparks from rolling (and the lines that appear on the edges of the screen feel like a cheap way of expressing speed), the stars from bouncing off objects are severely under-pronounced, and the sound effect for getting the goal isn't very satisfying, nor is the sound for collecting bananas. Also, whoever did the sound mixing didn't do a very good job of it, as I can barely hear the sound effects over the music.
Furthermore, I really didn't like how the game tried to combine Story Mode and Challenge Mode into a single mode. The credits play after you complete any world, like each world is its own difficulty. In addition, they just threw in Practice Mode as a secret you have to hold a button down for. Speaking of holding down buttons, you have to hold down Start / Select to actually pause instead of just pressing it for some reason.
The minigames took a hit in quality as well. I'd say more, but Nathatiel Bandy has a pretty good video dedicated to them already.
I'll give Super Monkey Ball Jr. one thing: getting a game like Super Monkey Ball Jr. running on a Game Boy Advance was a technical feat, though it didn't deserve the 8s and 9s that many outlets gave it.
Interestingly, this game doesn't even have as many levels as Super Monkey Ball. Banana Blitz has 92 levels (not counting boss fights) to SMB1's 109 (not counting repeats).
I was ok with Banana Blitz,I mean,Sure,I preferred SMB 1 & 2 better, and I kinda disliked the Jump feature, but it was Ok in general.
Honestly,If you ask me,I think the hate is because of the CHALLENGE the SMB brought,Banana Blitz didn't have AS much challenge as the other games did
Logan DeMott chan love live Yeah, especially with the deluxe exclusive stages.
Only thing that made me a tiny bit upset is the fact that they put the Ice World music from SMB1 to replace the Space World music also in SMB1.
The other music that replaced the music for Ice World didn't really fit.
Wow you didn't even lose one life in the bonus stages...
Ethan the Railfanner I don't think you lose lives in the bonus stages u just move on
Ethan the Railfanner FLAWLESS VICTORY!
Does he have a video on how he hacked it to work?
Hi nathaniel
NathanielBandy jumpscare
I kind of like Baby's new shades. It helps get across the fact that he is from the future. Something it took me a while to find out.
+Austin Argo Also, Jumping OP, Pls Nerf.
Is it ok that I get nostalgia feels from watching this?
no... this game is awful, also it only came out 7 years ago
+Joey Morrow (sonicpokemonfan02) it's your opinion. It's o.k. to have an opinion. FUCK Freakybananayo. While I dislike SMB BB, it's your feelings. Don't allow some JACK-ASS tell you you're wrong for opinions.
+Freakybananayo you're kind of an ass
You're taste is even more awful :)
tru
i watched this since i was 7
Every 20 bananas, you get a 1up... what the hell is going on?
‘Reuploading to take advantage of the length limit being removed’
Looking back now it’s crazy to think UA-cam ever limited their videos to 10 minutes.
I actually loved the jump. It made for so many interesting strategies to speed through the game.
HD REMAKE BABY! IT GOT ANNOUNCED
Sadly. We need a SMB1 remake.
@@siiberianian8336 I know I loved the old monkey ball
@@siiberianian8336 SMB Banana Mania: Allow me to introduce myself
1. The game is fine. I think the makers of it did a good job adapting the levels to fit the console it was made for.
2. They look better in this one. The landscape is actually PART of the level, not just in the background which you barely pay attention to.
3. This game It was made for the Wiimote, not the Gamecube controller, So the levels needed toning down.Try SMB 2 with the Wiimote. It's a fucking nightmare.
4. You say the graphics suck and now you're saying the graphics don't make a game?
why is everybody putting mean posts? I thought it was very good and I have this game and I can't belive you did this without dying!! when I play this I am a rage machine!!!
@@Tiosh well it's due to amusement vision going bankrupt, they had to create something entirely new after that, which ended up making the series a lot more different than it used to be.
I am kinda dissapointed that this game from 2006 and possibly 2 Sakura editions were the last ones to sort of live up to the difficulty of the originals, especially with how 3d turned out to be way too easy.
45:42 Oh god. I was so blind! The lava is a reference to the Rapture. There are ten bananas in a big bunch, and Baby has 7 golden bananas during the Rapture reference. 10 - 7 = 3.
HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED.
I really want them to make banana blitz 2 because I think this is the best game in the series and there should be more games like it. But they should make it less about jumping but still keep it future releases.
I get nostalgia from just watching this. This game and Step and Roll are my childhood!
I honestly hate this game. I bought it when I was about 9 and I was very disappointed. For one the levels were just... uninteresting. They were annoying to complete with the motion control. Honestly, the only reason this game is hard is because of the motion control. The jump button just makes it really weird. A jump button does not belong in a monkey ball game. It just kind of makes it easier to solve things and really made the level design stale because they tried to not have you jump over everything. I wanted this game to be good, but its not as simple as the old games. I prefer rough edges rather than the decorations scattered on the map...
I don't think your 9 year old mind was too smart...
Ever since amusement vision shut down, the newer versions of the game weren't made as great as the previous versions.:/ The original had something in it that made it addicting and fun. I'm not saying this is bad but just not as good.
I actually think this game's OK. Nowhere near as good as the originals, but it's different enough to be it's own entity.
why does gongon sound like tigger when he jumps?
Hmmmm....
lol
idk but i love it
59:25 was really clutch.
This game was too easy lmao the stages don’t even get harder as you progress, or I should say barely gets harder
"You are the master of Monkey Ball!"
Oh, sure.
Try beating Space Colony within a season.
Colin P. Beat flat maze without cheese strats
Beat cylinders without cheese strats
You rock! This game is so frustrating for me. Im stuck on cosmos or volcano... cant really remember
21:40 jeez that was close!
1:05:56 you can tell by how the camera is moving that his hands are shaking
I can't blame him
although i've played SMB1, SMB2, SMB Advanced, SMB Jr. (GameBoy Color), SMB Touch and Roll, SMB BB (this game), SMB Step and Roll, & SMB 3ds...... I'd expect the creators of SEGA to make a SMB Series Pack with all the SMB games
Banana Blitz looks so freaking weird in a bad way, but the music sounds good
...Wow, Super Monkey Ball sure has changed since i first played smb1 as a kid.
The gameplay and art style is so...weird...
Honestly, i haven't played this game, but i dont think smb as changed for the better, this game looks like junk compared to smb1. Nice run tho, all your speed runs are great in fact.
Ultra Heaven: Because fuck regular Heaven.
+TheJackHammer2010 Do you mean Ultra Hell? It is less Heaven more Hell.
I think I'm part of the minority that really likes this game. It is a bit too easy, but the art style, music, the introduction of world bosses everything else is pretty spot-on for what I'd imagine a "Next Gen" Super Monkey Ball to evolve in to. Especially after that dissapointing Adventure game. It's plainly clear they were trying to introduce some of the platforming elements from that into the game.
I think the game is great, and a good direction for the series. It wasn't stupidly easy like the games that followed, but it wasn't incredibly hard that most players wont even see half the game (the originals).
But, after this game they kinda messed it up and went super casual and just kinda isolated fans of the series. This was a good middle ground I thought and a great sequel to the originals.
+TheLonelyGoomba
Sometimes it feels like referring to it as a good "direction" doesn't cut it. They've been putting entirely different spins and gimmicks on each game, such as the DS one utilising the touch screen, and the Wii version using motion controls and jumps... _and what the hell was adventure what the fuck was going on there._
Creating a gimmick for a game to set it apart from the ones prior to it is a VERY risky move. It's pretty difficult for the designers to create any sort of variation for the SMB series; the main formula is rolling around a stage in a ball and getting to the goal while getting optional conveniently placed bananas. It's so difficult that I actually feel sorry for the designers.. They don't really have a choice sometimes...
I can't really think of any changes that could be made to this game to make better. It's just like the Super Mario series. You can't change much other than the level design, and even that isn't enough to please.
*TL;DR: The game developers/designers don't have much of a choice with this series. If it kept going without gimmicks, it'd be like the Super Mario Bros. series.*
Professor Heavy Really, the issue I have with the series isn't how it's played. It's how easy and basic the levels have become. That's more so what I meant for direction, accessible yet offers some challenge for core players.
The series used to have a mix of easy levels, and balls to the walls difficult levels, now, the games never get past what I would consider "advanced", heck, 3D was basically stuck in beginner the entire game.
I guess the series is doomed from a sales perspective, but, atleast they got it right with the Vita game.
Really though, they could just release a game exactly like the original, with the classic line up of mini games, and I guarantee it'll sell a lot better than any of their later titles.
Could you imagine doing all that and then you fail on Ultra Heaven 10?
World 6 is my fav. But I ❤️ the music in 9
Heck I think Ultra Heaven has the best.
Thing is, this all your opinion, you can't control anyone's opinion except yours. I like Ultra Heaven, you like Space Case.
Siliconia is also my favorite for SMBS&R
Um, never heard of that, haven't played SMB in a LONG time.
***** Oh so it's still in SMBS&R?
This game was my childhood. ALSO HOLY FUCKING SHIT YOU'RE GOOD AT THIS FRUSTRATING ASS GAME!!!
As much as I love the monkey ball series, I really hate this game. They made the game way too easy and changed the level design too much. The game even felt too easy even with the shitty WiiMote controls. I found the jumping mechanic pointless and I hated the mechanic of boss battles.
This game is just missing the ruthlessness of SMB 1 and 2. If they would have changed the levels to be more like the first two games, removed the jumping mechanic, and changed the controls to use the analog stick on the nunchuk, I would have loved this game. But sadly, they fucked up, and I lost a of of respect for this franchise.
This is the same way with a lot of nintendo games and it makes me sad. They took previously good and even sometimes dark series and made them way too bright and happy and kid friendly. The kirby games did the same thing, with their extremely happy new look as opposed to the dark feel it used to have. I miss those days.
I'd say the most challenging part was starting up the game.
10-5 begs to differ with the "easy part"
I agree, although it can't really be considered too easy with the controls being so difficult. I think if it were possible to use a gamecube remote or even a nunchuck with the Wii Remote, it would've been a ton easier. But yeah, this game's difficulty is way higher than the rest.
He makes it look like trash doesn't he.
9:30
The button on top of that rocket is a bigger design flaw than that fucking exhaust pipe on the Death Star.
This game was the hardest shit ever for me as a kid
You make the game look playable!
No he makes it look like a piece of trash.
Agree
Even with the crappy WiiMote controls, the game it's self is hard, "1-1 begs to differ with the 'hard part'", yeah I know.
What? The game is very fun and playable. It's a great game; it seems like people only hate it because it's not exactly like the old ones.
Haters
Stages that make me rage: 5-Boss, 6-3, 6-7, 6-5, 7-2, 7-5, 7-8, 7-Boss, 8-4, 8-5, 8-7, 9-6, 9-7, 9-9, 10-3, 10-5, 10-9. They piss me off so much... At least world 9 has badass music
For me, the worst stages are: 5-Boss, 7-2, 7-5, 7-8, 7-Boss, 8-4, 8-7, 8-8, 9-2, 9-6, 9-9, 10-3, 10-4, and the worst 10-5.
thought that u were gonna timeout on level 6-7 with AiAi
Which SMB game on the Wii do you like better and why? Banana Blitz or Step and Roll?
step and roll was only good if you had a balance board imo
Why did you switch to gongon at 59:02?

Showoff.
I was checking Gmail when you replied, so I got a message notification. Nor did I expect you to reply to my reply so quick.
There's absolutely no doubt that Banana Blitz beats Touch and Roll
why is baby super edgy in this game
Hang on, SMB 3D doesn't have a story to it and I wondered "Why are AiAi and Co. doing this?" Sega probably realized that people were confused about SMB games that have no story might confuse people.
i cant believe they ruined a good puzzle game by allowing you to JUMP
I cannot get past World 10.
I remember HATING the world five boss and I still do...
Ikr, I've no idea how I manages to gold crown world 5 with that level. Oh well I'll complete it again someday...
The graphics are surprisingly great and i love the music.
Dude, it was a Wii launch title. Lighten up.
So World 10 Is The Master stages?
The motion controls don't bother me tbh
World 1 has GREAT music. Sounds like it should be in a racing game of some sort. Oh, wait, We already got Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. But still, pretty friggin awesome soundtrack this game has.
I wish this game was as good as its music
+Andrew Lyon The music is pretty bland compared the SMB 1 and 2 though...
I've been playing this recently even before the remake got announced. I'm on the desert world's boss.
I don't know why everyone says this game is easy, because it really isn't. I argue that it's just as hard, if not harder than the original 2. The controls are... managable, but take some getting used to.
I am upset that there isn't no Monkey Billards though.
I cleared all the 8 worlds without a continue, but for a reason, world 9 is hard.
Ultra heaven? Ultra hell. Seriously, level 5 on Ultra heaven was frustrating.
The virgin aiai stan vs the BABY ENJOYER
I love the music in smooth sherbert
I was an absolute boss at this game and my character was yanyan
59:27 jesus christ
I'd like to see a no banana run of this game.
I haven't played this one before but you can jump...?
That alone makes it seem easy. I know I'm watching YOU play this, Miles, and you make everything seem easy, haha.
...but wow.
Even the level design seems different. SMB1&2 were hard because all you could do is go, and even then, the level would do that for you, at times. I mean, the challenge is what made it fun. Eh. Not as satisfying to watch as the first two, but you're still a beast as always.
This is game was piss easy in comparison with the originals. The originals were solid.
try ultra heaven 5 😭🙏
SMB has gotten way worse
+Brendan Carlson why, is it because its different from the originals and your too stuck to your past so you cant accept it as good
+Cyan Spinez Damein no, it's just cause the new games suck compared to the original 3
Andrew Lyon So if the first game was like this it would be loved
+Cyan Spinez Damein The music is pretty bland compared to the original ones for sure lol
shut up
i was stuck on some ultra heaven level
Probably ultra heaven 5
The Most levels I have completed without a death is 73, when I was on 8-4, I was on the last part until I landed on a boost tile which sent my flying of the edge. Besides, when I hit 10-5 I nearly did it on my first attempt when I went up the hill leading to the goal, I hit the side of the goal which made me fall out. I have completed all of the other 99 levels n this game except this one.
That 10-5 run! :O I mean yeah there are some hard stages that are also difficult to pass consistently, but 10-5 under all the pressure of a perfect run attempt is incredible!
+PkGam Hey PKgam. The second time I've seen a youtuber I've subscribed to leave a comment on a video that they're not in. I was about to watch one of your videos too.
+Luigiman1089 Hiya! ^_^
PkGam :)
+Allan Bao North American version.
Why didn't you crown World 10?
4 years and no game in this series, but I love this game anyway because it was my first Wii game and the Wii was my first console... The nostalgia is indeed real, and I play SMBDX so I can learn the original two so it's the best of all worlds. Don't get the anger with this one, because Step and Roll is even easier...
I DOUBLE DOG DARE you to complete this game no deaths AND get EVERY SINGLE BANANA in the ENTIRE GAME.
No
Claris Robyn If you do it I'll subscribe and like this video
The music for the pirate level sounds slightly related to lonesome manors battle music from epic mickey far as instruments in the background (and a few in foreground) go
I guess it was a good thing they never put jumping in Step and Roll.
Otherwise, the game would be too easy.
Same with the Super Monkey Ball Sakura sedition because I’ve beaten ALL the stages.
Awesome run and video!!!!
Me too, I never pass ultra heaven stage 5
No wonder your so skilled at this game.
Just press A to skip the staff credits!
What?!? Under an hour and a half?!?! You, sir, deserve a billion dollars.
they should add a stage builder mechanic so you can share the stages with your miiverse friends (the gamepad is perfect for this new tactic) and I love the jump mechanic and if you're good enough a hardcore mode.
FUCK LEVEL 5 ON FUCKING ULTRA HEAVEN
The graphics are amazing, and it's childish because it's for kids, and I find that adorable. :3 The wii remote actually worked really, really well with it, was as easy as tilting and pressing a single button once in a while to win. If you didn't get this game you truly missed out, it was a blast to play. It had excellent music too, and (esp. chars) looked absolutely beautiful...
The only thing I didn't like would be a few boring mini games, and Baby turning into a cyborg in some. goodness no..
Why do you jump the speed boosts?
I can't even beat World 9, let alone without losing a life. Kudos to you, sir. Also, they really need to make a new SMB game (read: not like Step & Roll).
If I remember correctly, this game had Gamecube Controller support at default, but then they removed it for Step N Roll. So sadly I don't think this game is that difficult
(Oh boy do I wish Sega remembers how they programmed the first 2 sometime soon AKA ANALOG)
SuperMario1550 Rick do
The music though. Touch and Roll anyone?
Yes, I get what you mean. However, I like to think that these are the classic songs. They need to occur more in the series.
MilesSMB, please, show a photo of you. I want to confirm if you are an human. It's impossible pass 10-5 in one try!
why can you jump?
Took me like 1-25 continues to beat this game... They upped the story mode difficulty, but nerf'd the race mode...
Next to super monkey ball jr, this game is the hardest super monkey ball game out there in STILL not at world 9/10
I completed this game at age 7 tho
First half was too easy, second half was too hard. They shouldn't have make jump always available.
Jump should have added as a bailout.
Wow! This game is crap compared to Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2. Those ones actually took skill. This one takes less skill than Marble Blast Ultra. Not that anyone cares about that game anymore sadly. Seriously though, I rented this game once thinking it was one of the good ones and I was sorely disappointed with it. This is like having those bowling rails up.
cool I have this game too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's normal is a No death Run,because in speedrun,we never lost live!
Reset for gain time. Some part of the winter's music remind me a Sonic Rush game.AND WHY THERE IS CREDIT EACH LAST SET OF LEVEL?!The first part of the Egypte music realy fit the devil.
I played SMB 2 in the Gamecube and definitely it was harder than this
I'd go opposite, more precise movements then a wiimote
But Gamecube's level designs were harder, and also you couldn't jump.
*****, you could make yourself bounce by hitting an obstacle at an angle with enough speed, of course. But you can't bounce while you're still (or if you can, please show me how).
Its more challenge if you also avoid any wall/fence accidents
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKI
0:50: What do they even do with those golden bananas? Eat them? stare at them?
Never mind, I actually cleared world 9 without a continue, and got world 10.
It's just even more awesome for watching all in one sitting 8D
I agree. I've owned the game for 5 years and I still haven't completed that one.
