The final dance is so poetic - Focalors danced as a form of farewell for Neuvillette while Furina danced as a closing performance to her 500 years of acting.
I interpreted this differently. I thought they danced because they wanted to. Focalors wanted to be human and, at long last, finally got her wish, even if it was only for a short time.
Looking at furina not speaking a word, with tears in her eyes, broke me completely. The look of absolute defeat, she doesn't care about anything anymore, she thought she broke the one rule she wasn't supposed to break and that all her pain was for nothing, it absolute broke my heart.
I replayed it so many times, it feels so melancholic and freeing at the same time, with context of how this moment finally freed Furina it's an unforgettable feeling!😭 I even cried a little and it's not easy to make me cry (i'm actually a very emotional person, but it's hard for me to physically cry, probably because of how much i hold back emotions on daily basis (i relate to Neuvillette a lot with how he can only cry through the rain). Even when i'm very touched by the scene i do not always manage to cry for real, only internally. So when the scene manages to make me cry i consider it very powerful. This scene is one of them).
If you really think about it, Furina is genuinely one of the most selfless people on Teyvat. At her worst, she could’ve confided in Traveler for a split second but she held strong. Cherish her, hug her, treat her well.
What I like about that is not only cemented how determined she was, but also tells us this isn't the kind of your average anime story where someone's problem can be solved merely by the power of protagonist's charisma. Or only by protagonist being nice to the character
There is something that i realized from the death of the recent archons. Raiden Makoto : No one in Inazuma really knows about her death, since there are 2 of them, except Miko. Rukkhadevata : No one in Sumeru remembers her, even Nahida Focalors : Everyone in Fontaine only knew Furina as Focalors, not knowing that they've been separated. So everybody in Fontaine basically don't know that their archon is dead, except for Neuvillete. It is really sad to see, almost everybody in the respective countries didn't know about the sacrifice of their own gods.
Ei and Makoto posed together to the masses as singular entity - Raiden Shogun. Humans believed there was only one Raiden, so when Makoto has died during the Cataclysm, no one knew, as Ei was at the time in Inazuma, defending it from threats such as Orobashi, so Inazumians believed Raiden Shogun was with them all the time. Only Gods knew the truth, and the consequences that followed. Makoto was to follow Celestia's orders, and with her being less of a warrior and more of a diplomat, she was a lamb led to the slaughter. Rukkhadevata was so influential for Sumerians that after she died and "reincarnated" as Nahida, they've rejected her almost instantly, believing she won't live up to Greater Lord's accomplishments, even giving her the mocking moniker of Lesser Lord, and "ignoring" her existence, as if she wasn't even existing. But at the end of the Sumeru Archon Quest, the tables have turned, with Rukkhadevata deciding to sacrifice her very own existence in order to heal the corruption within the Irminsul, effectively removing Eleazar and Withering with it. But due to her actions, no Tevyat-bound lifeform happens to even 'heard' of Rukkhadevata - due to Irminsul's "remodified history", it is now believed that Nahida was the Dendro Archon from the very beginning (which was partially true; even before history modification), and that during the Cataclysm, she lost nearly all of her powers, becoming substantially weaker. As for Rukkhadevata, she no longer exists in neither the books, knowledge capsules nor in others' memories. She has died a second time - a "true death". Focalors also decided to sacrifice her own life for the sake of the region, but she went a step further; she decided to destroy the Hydro Throne alongside herself, and have the Hydro Authority be returned to the righful owner, Hydro Dragon Sovereign (which was Neuvillette). To do this, she split herself into "god side", Focalors, and "human side", Furina, and Focalors had Furina act as a Hydro Archon and ruler of Fontaine, as the Oratrice Mechanique d'Analyse Cardinale was collecting Indemnitium, which would be later used to kill Focalors and destroy the Hydro Throne, which it accomplished. But still, Focalors knew she was being on a death row with no known execution date, and Furina had to play the tough role for far longer than she could imagine, despite her mentality and capabilities being that of a human. Both suffered unimaginable pain, to the point that one could ask, if the pay was adequate to the effort.
Mihoyo/Hoyoverse really out here choosing the worst ways to exist imaginable for our Archons past Liyue. We started out with a bubbly Venti only to jump off a cliff after Zhongli's deep voice. Personally, worst fear is everyone you know forgetting you, or having to live with knowing something no one else can or could know
The Archon was all the time Furina's side. Focalors part never taked that role actually. Besides only her divine side is gone, so we can't really say "their archon is dead" Unlike Rukha or Makoto Focalors still alive in Furina. What is actually gone is the Archon trone which is way more impactful
@@redhotbeatle4172 That's not true since the position of Archon means the one with Authority. Furina had no Authority and it was Focalors (with her death) who returned the Authority to the Sovereign.
@@ashinningdot for me personally I didn't see anything maternal or familial about their interactions but it's nice that they have an interesting dynamic. As the Hydro Dragon, Neuvillette should've despised Focalors as he does with the rest of the Seven but his voice was shaky when he realized what was going to happen to her and even grieved for her after her execution. 🥲
2:01 - 2:09 The Actual Translation of that letters is:- "It's been tough for you, Furina" "Pray Live Blissfully as a human for that is what I wished for"
Neuvilette was deeply saddened by both Furina's suffering and Focalors' sacrifice, but alas Focalors was a true genius for decieving the heavenly principles.
@@nameisNICK.F people have to understand that being a free game means nothing. There's a lot of free games that make millions or billions of dollars (Genshin makes much more money than a lot of paid games from giant companies like Sony and Nintendo). Companies still have the same behavior, they need to get profit, if not, they will bank rupt. Genshin is a heavily invest free gacha game, and the money that they are getting from the gacha justifies this huge quality. Mihoyo is soo rich now, that if they want something which needs singers from other countries or specialized people for other things, they will do it.
If you read the in-game description at the archives section, it's described that the rain poured heavier than ever outside the Opera Epiclese after Neuvillette regained his full authority over Hydro. He really grieved over Focalors' death and the fact that he was the sole witness for it, watching her to be executed and disappear into bubbles of hydro energy, signifying the destruction of the Hydro Archon throne and the restoration of the Hydro Sovereign Authority to its rightful owner must have been so traumatizing and heartbreaking for him. Imagine witnessing someone's death, especially a brutal one in front of you. No wonder the downpour was so excessive, the sadness carved so deep inside his heart as he grieves over her death, which is then followed by the trembling and shakiness in his breath. I'm unsure if it's just the rain, but if you examine closely a single tear can be seen. Neuvillette really went from being uninsterested in human society to eventually loving and sympathizing with humanity over the past 500 years all thanks to Focalors and Furina, who executed the plan perfectly. He came to love and understand human emotions even if he does not understand himself. This archon quest made me love Furina and Neuvillette as a character even more, and I am beyond happy that hoyoverse is able to create and portray characters so beautifully as them :) I really want a 2nd story quest for both of them, for that is one of my biggest wishes for the continuation of the story.
Honestly if they don't get a second story quest during the 4 updates, I'll be extremely disappointed. Specially Neuvillette, since there's a lot left unexplained.
@@trontr while I wouldn’t rule that out, in this case, the “judgment” was purely symbolic. The Fontainians dissolved in Primordial Seawater because they were “incomplete” humans- whatever Egeria did with the Primordial Sea to grant her Oceanids bodies would reverse if they touched it. The power Neuv used to “forgive” them comes from the Hydro Sovereign’s role as Teyvat’s God of Life- he “completed” the conversion process, removing the traces of Primordial Seawater in their blood that made them soluble in the first place.
i wanna give the voice actor for neuvillette such a huge applause for this scene, you can legit hear his inhaled being shaky, and the uneven voice legit sounds like he was trying so hard not to cry and for that amount of emotion, i have to give an applause. seriously, an amazing job. what an icon.
@@mattmark94Totally! After hearing him play from Noctis to Sukuna to Tengen, I have been waiting for him to be in Genshin and so happy to have him finally here! Recognized his voice immediately and right away loved the character he voices!
1:49 I'm a violinist and I can hear clearly the violin sounds just like a real weeping cry. Props to the violinist on pulling on these notes with such immense emotion.. he/she must be truly playing from the deepest of their hearts.
I agree. that's my favorite part in the cutscene and ost. I'm curious if this part is based on another genshin ost, I would like to hear an extended version of it.
Furina might not have the power and might of an archon but her determination, loyalty, and will is that of a god she truly deserve the title of the god of justice
At 1:02 I finally realized the sword was following Focalor's every step across the stage. She really made sure her own execution was certain. The sword really is her spotlight and final curtain.
Here's a little funfact: AQ act 5 of fontaine is called "masquerade of the guilty ". In the Chinese version, it is wrote as 罪人舞步旋. If we reverse the position of the characters, it becomes 旋步舞人罪. Pronounced "Xuán huy wǔ rén zuì". We have 旋 homophones with 宣, 舞 homophones with 无. The sentence 旋步舞人罪 will become 宣布无人罪. It means: " A declaration, no one is guilty." I read this comment from Minhhoaitrinh153 but i wanted to share it with you all.
Yeah, the music went really hard this time. It went from the almost whimsical and playful and pure start for the performance, then the choir came to give that godly feel, then the male choir joined for the ominous descent of the Oratrice. Then it goes super tender when Focalors gives her final goodbye to Furina, and then it transitions from this tenderness to the big moment, but said moment is punctuated by that constant sad piano the entire time, and then only the sad piano remains and closes off the scene. Neuvi getting his powers back was a victory sure, but it tasted like defeat, the cost was too high.
I love the fact that this is a scene so intimate and private that not even the traveler "the witness" could see it. It makes it a waaay more special than any other scene before. Plus Neuvi's expressions, the pretty Fovalors's dance and all the implicit feeling between them makes this scene the best hyv has given us so far
i actually wonder if the traveler DID see it. Because inner-furina (in front of traveler) dances when focalors dances, so perhaps traveler also saw inner-furina saying what focalors was saying to neuvillette.
@@HearterSG nah, furina and focalors may be the same person but they're two different entities (human & god), so furina can't possibly have replicated the same thing focalors said
Everyone talk about Furina and Neuvillate, I wanna talk about Fucalors. The one who most eager to become a human, yet she turn herself into a machine. She knows she gonna die when the day she receivd the hydro archon throne. She even planned her own death. Store the energy for 500 years without talking to anyone, not even Furina. I thought about why she didn't talk to Furina thru the mirror, and I think thats because she couldn't. She has turned herself into a conscious machine. I cant imagine how she lonely she was. She just keeps on collect those energy and wait for 500 years for her own death sentences, alone, and no one even know she exists and sacrifice for Fontaine. Like Rukkhavevata. No one know and appreciated except Neuvillate. The one who most eager to be a human, in the end, she still cant be a human herself.
She's a god. The resolve and mental fortitude of a deity is not comparable to that of humans. Those 500 years probably didn't mean much for someone like her.
yup Furinas finale really hit right in the feels prier to this when Hoyoverce got me right in the heart was after the Colocia fight in HSR. I truly hope Genshin continues to be this high quality story telling in the new region as well especially when its a dragon based region ^_^
I still think Nahida was better but in terms of consequential this one takes the cake. Nahida story doesn't really advance anything besides the gnosis. Then suddenly this one destroys an archon power role, reforms a sovereign to full strength, and reveals that the gnosis are just pieces of the 3rd descender. like holy lore drop damn
Furina is such a broken human. She played the role of acting as a god for 500 years straight without anyone finding out her real identity. Even so, she did it to save the people of Fontaine because she believes it a necessary sacrifice. That's what makes her character a very compelling one.
Worst part is until she saw outside, as far as she knew when the verdict was given, she had failed 500 years of putting up the act for everyone, and she's pleading for them to believe her because she doesn't want them to die. When you put it like that it becomes obvious why all the life went out of her once the verdict hit.
"Sinner’s Finale" uses the singular term because Focalors and Furina are like two sides of the same coin-one divine, the other human. Combined both and you’ll make one Hydro Archon. Loved how Zhongli acknowledged them as one entity by saying “…Though her divinity had vanished…” when speaking about Furina.
Everyone keep in mind that this was Focalors' choice the MOMENT she became the hydro archon (successor). She never strayed from her plan and stuck to it, fully accepting that justice could only come in her death and no other way. When she was still an oceanid her deepest wish was to be human. She got that humanity through Furina but knew that she could never fully get to experience it herself...only the loneliness of godhood and the cruel responsibility that came with it.
it is more tragic yeah when u think about that Focalors could not live as a human not once but TWICE. She could not live as a human at first because she became a god of justice after Egeria died and then she could not live as a human as Furina because Furina had to act as a god for 500 years without aging. Focalors died being at least glad that Furina can live as a human for both of them.
Not exactly. She says: "I spent a terribly long time mulling it over, alone on the ocean floor... and I was almost growing barnacles by the time I finally realized [...]"
Everyone talks about Furina's suffering for 500 years, but if you realise that Focalors had to live alone in nowhere for 500 years with the thought "i'm going to die", it becomes doubly tragic. They really share the same will and sense of justice.
The most heartbreaking part for me was 2:56 Neuvillette, despite gaining back his authority and saving the people of Fontaine, the thought of not being able to do anything for Focalors in the end, not even taking off some of her burden, left him hanging in the air in a moment of contemplation and regret, while the rain continues to fall
ok so like in 0:34 in the jp version focalors uses “じゃあね” when saying goodbye to neuvillette which roughly translates to “see you”. this is an interesting word choice because it infers that focalors will see him again… they probably used it to show that furina and focalors are the same person and that focalors will meet neuvillette again as furina
and now that i think about it they were foreshadowing this whole thing during that one poetry event where the oceanid and the old man reunite and the oceanid gives the man a teardrop with her condensed elemental power before losing her form and going back to the water
AANND now that i type that out i think of clio’s story in furina’s sq where clio loses her human form to save her lover and humanity… “I am and will always be there to see the world and its beauty and it will never, ever change”
@@HahNakkuu clio is the protagonist of “The Little Oceanid” from furina’s story quest! she’s supposed to be a parallel to furina and the play is also a parallel to the events of 4.2 ^^
The voice actor of furina/focalors Amber lee Connors thank you for this amazing work and all the people who spend their time for creating this beautiful archon quest
@@miers2002may I know where can I watch it? Or what's the title if it's on UA-cam? I can't seem to find it myself and I'm very curious her playing with the cast
Navia, Focalors, Furina and Neuvillete are simply peak of genshin impact and in my personal opinion, Furina was the best of the best. I was absolutely moved, I want a happy ending for her but it is true that part of what caused such a stir in the community is that the ending is not completely happy... It left several scars on several characters. Navia managed to save Spinna di Rossula and cooperated in the salvation of Fontaine but along the way she lost her father, discovered that she was betrayed by people close to her and lost 2 of her best friends and most trusted servants. Focalors lived from day 1 when she became an archon, imprisoned for 500 years only to prepare her suicide to deceive Celestia and give happiness to her people. Neuvillete always felt distant from humans, finally he managed to understand them and recover his original power... But he was seriously distressed to see so much sacrifice made by Furina and Focalos just for him to recover his powers and give his verdict of innocence to the citizens of Fontaine, in addition, of the serious depression that immortal entities usually have. And Furina, ufff, Furina. The 500-year act is already one thing but it is explained to you that for hundreds of years she did everything she could to prevent the prophecy. She spread informants throughout Teyvat to gather information against the prophecy, Furina traveled through the 7 nations of Teyvat without managing to find anything and Furina invested in the scientific community of Fontaine so that they would find something to counter the prophecy with Science but NOTHING worked, then Neuvillete shows her the list of Spinna di Rossula's dead and Furina understood that all her efforts were being useless, people were still dying and the only thing she could do was continue acting like a goddess, in addition, they also explain to you what to act for so many years she mentally broke her in such a way that she no longer knows what she was like originally, she only knows her personality when it comes to acting as an archon, she was attacked by Arlecchino leaving her traumatized, doubted by her own people and the cherry on the top int the depression cake is that Furina never asked for some fame in exchange for this... Simply, according to Neuvillete, after hearing the end of Focalors, she just sighed saying that she was tired of everything and packed her things to live like a normal person. Charllote offered her an interview to tell everything and Neuvillete possibly would have been open to helping Furina spread the news about everything she sacrificed... But she simply rejected those 2 opportunities. She simply accepted a normal life without any kind of pleasure in a city where they will never be aware of everything she also did for it while the spotlight will focus on Navia, those who found the gigantic ark that Wriothesley used and in Neuvillete. That's what I call a hero... And a tragic one at that, since even though people still seem to love her and applaud her in theaters, it's just that, theater. Furina knows that no one applauds her for who she is, Furina has no friends and if you have her as a character you will know very well that she is a very lonely person. She always wanted friends but being an archon made her a very lonely person since people put her on a pedestal where no one wanted to get close to her because they thought that being friends with a goddess like her was impossible. According to her elemental ability, in the background there is a text that explains that usually on Wednesdays she suffers attacks of melancholy and says that she would like to have friends to eat cake with her and says that surely one day she will have someone like that. Furina's need for friends is such that she developed a personal attachment to her hydro creations that she uses in her elemental ability... Oh my god Hoyoverse, what a character they just made.
Almost every character in genshin could be a peak if writers put efforts in that and give them enough screentime. Sadly most Mondstadt's and Inazuma's characters didn't have such privilege.
@@ET-tt5nc Inazuma is a shame but I think that in the end of the game we will go back again to mondsdat for something very important and we will have more content of them. But im starting to think that Fontaine is a before and after in the game, the beginning of hoyoverse making better writing in the game (We must be positive and think that Natlan will be so good as Fontaine or better and they will not make a mistake lol)
I'm so glad they modeled her instead of just using one of Furina's outfits for her, made the quest so much more impactful. Huge step up from Nahida hugging herself, big props 👏
@@Tom-101 if you want to write that 3 page essay I would read it, Amber was absolutely amazing, the voice was so different that I didn't even know it was the same va
@@LongDeadArtist I think she looked slightly different ? In that cutscene where she takes care of forbidden knowledge at least. But the scene where Nahida hugs herself is because now Nahida is the avatar of Irminsul I think?
I love the details in Neuvillette's demeanour as he witnesses Focalors' divinity dance one last time before her final curtain call. The anticipation when she farewells him, and then he physically reaches out to her when the blade drops, even though he knows he can't stop it. He just looks absolutely crushed in that moment, even though the plan is to restore his full power and Sovereign authority over Hydro so that he can be the final part of the plan, forgiving the "Original Sin" of Fontaine so that the flood will not dissolve everyone. For the plan to work, both Furina and Neuvillette were essential parts that had to be alive, and had to act according to her divinity's predictions, and even though he knows this was all set in stone long before he came here to act as Chief Justice, it still hurts him to know not only the monumental sacrifice that she made, but the fact that her divinity still carries the same form her mortal body takes. He witnesses his own best friend decapitated right before his eyes, and knows that it still had to happen. Amber's performance is amazing here, especially her still admitting that she's afraid of dying even though she knows it must happen, but Ray absolutely deserves more praise here. Most of what you see here is just Neuvillette's body language and Ray's vocalisations, but once you reach the end where he finally forgives the sins of the people, his lament and sorrow is clear in his ragged breathing and declaration that Fontaine is forgiven. All that pain concentrated into one declaration by which he finishes the final step of the plan. Fontaine has truly been one of those nations man
There is one misunderstanding between all the furina simping community, focalors divinity is focalors herself, while furina is what focalors used to be in her early human days
It's been over a year now and this is still giving me chills and almost tears.. This is peak and in my opinion will probably never be topped by any game
"Farewell Neuvillette, I hope you've enjoyed the part you played this five hundred years" Sht that line always breaks me and the way she said it is heartbreaking 💔
2:42 love the parallels to Neuv’s demo and the fact that the rain continued to pour really showed that Neuv found it hard to hold back his grief in that moment. Just an incredible cutscene.
Focalors line calling furina the perfect imperfect human just hits different. I know it isnt in this cutscene but i had to mention it. The way she said it, you could her how much love focalor has for furina. Gosh fontaine is by far my fav part of the story line. I cried so many times.
Yes!! It marks such a huge turning point in Teyvat's story- we are really approaching the climax, it won't be long before we command Dainsleif to step aside...
I mean, deceiving the frickin CELESTIA is just so badass as an achievement and can’t easily be ignore! Fontaine archon quests in overall also proved to us that the future quests will be even more crazy and insane than this!
honestly same, this is the part i kept repeating. couldn't get it out of my head, especially seeing how sad she looks. the transitions between focalors and furina are so well-done, this entire cutscene is amazing and painful to watch 💔
You may be subconsciously picking up on some of the symbolism. Focalors dance is meant to symbolize a "swan song" the myth that a swan, just before its death, will sing its final most beautiful song. By nature, however that means it's an act that is inherently tied to imminent death. Furina joining in that dance in that moment means she's, though separated by distance, in some way experiencing and taking part in Focalor's swan song. Turning that final "song" into a duet between two intimately tied souls. But by its nature that duet will end with one of the pair suddenly gone in a very final sense, and the other left alone. And for Furina specifically, after 500 years of suffering and loneliness, that hell has to her mind ended in failure and with everyone she cares about turning their back on her is about to end with her losing the only "other person" who knows her secret and that her faith in has driven her for all this time. With the death of her "mirror-me" Furina will be well and truly alone left to face a future that seems dark and uncertain.
“I, Iudex Neuvillette, hereby declare Fontaine people your sins are forgiven” This moment was so powerful. Natlan what do you have in store for us, I wonder?
I love how Furina didnt get her Vision when she pulled off the 500 years Opera, but when she got over her depression and fulfilled Focalor's last words to her: live happily as a human.
Girl she’s so funny not giving her other half at least some means of protection like y’all shes so lucky no one questioned and dared to fight against her in all those 500 years focalors is so fun for this lmao she won the idgaf war
@@paulduchamp4736it was stated that vision holders can indeed ascend to archonhood but since focalors destroyed that throne, there should be no more hydro archon forever, only hydro sovereign-which is Neuvillette
Ray Chase and Amber Lee Connors should be applauded for bringing this scene to life. The desperation in both Neuvillette and Furina's voices in throughout the Fontaine archon quests were contrasting but both convincing. I hope I can relive the moment when I've watched the last Fontaine Archon Quest for the first time TT
One year later..... This story will never fail to make me cry. Not a day has gone by where I haven't thought about it. It's the most beautiful piece of story telling that I've ever come across and still remains my favorite. Thank you to Hoyo and all the voice actors that created this masterpiece. Thank you Focalors and Furina, for the sacrifices that you made to save the people of Fontaine.
Amber Lee Connors played 3 characters in this quest: The Deceitful God, Focalors; The Wishful Actress, Furina; The Regina of All Waters, Kindreds, Peoples, and Laws, Fontaine's Hydro Archon. She did with just her voice what many movie star actors can't with their full body: become someone else. The moment she switches from Furina to 'Hydro Archon' in the Accession Speech scene cemented her as the best rendition of the scene. The scene before with Neuvillette and the execution scene were easily the best in the entire Genshin story so far. So much regret in her voice, but not that she's going away, but that she wished things could've been easier. That Furina didn't have to suffer, that she could've lived as a human, that Neuvillette didn't have to be Deceieved. And most of all: that she was afraid. And that line of being afraid was delivered with so much emotion that I can hear it in my mind. Well done to everyone involved, this was the best pieces of media that has come out from Genshin.
1:58 In-game translation vs literal translation of Focalors' farewell message to Furina (still just as heartbreaking): "Thank you, Furina." ("It's been tough for you, Furina.") "From this moment on, please live happily as a human, just as I wished we could." ("Pray live blissfully as a human, for that is what I wished for.")
Ikr. The quests have been getting progressively better. Both Sumeru and Fontaine's fifth acts were beautiful. Can't wait for Natlan and for it all to culminate in Snezhnaya...
Phenomenal job from both Amber Lee Conners and Ray Chase in this scene. I haven't ugly cried in Genshin since Rukkhadevata, and their performance really hit me in the feels. And the music too!! The way it started from Focalors' theme, to Furina's and then to Neuvilette's was perfect This was an empowering scene but also very sad.
the fact that it was raining before neuvillette launched into the sky to say his verdict shows how much focalors' death sentence affected him. my focallette heart T^T
1:26 the animators need a raise dude, his reaction was so accurate?? The way he stops just speechlessly, that's exactly how anyone would react seeing one of their closest Acquaintances being brutely killed lmao, jokes aside it's very well done
I'm very happy how well they could convey Furina's five centuries' worth of despair holding her secret in and how much it's affected her, and how Focalors is affected as well. In comparison, Raiden battled herself for five centuries and she was basically unchanged when you return to her.
It didn't scare me even an inch if people I loved and cared don't remember me anymore What fears me the most is when I can't do anything for them to show how much I loved and cared for them
the part that gets me the most is the change from the fontaine theme/focalors theme into neuvillette's theme is so poetic of the transfer of power from archon to dragon sovereign between them and the way it crescendos to show his pain makes my heart ache, genshin truly peaked with this whole quest
For reeeeeeeal though. When she was first introduced I pretty much immediately was like "oh no I really don't like her attitude..." and this quest made me take a 180 and now I absolutely adore her.
It's been almost a year since this masterpiece dropped, I still come here frequently just to remember all my feeling when I play this story quest. Absolutely peak genshin story line.
Im so mesmerized by focalor's dance. After she said farewell to Neuvi she took a deep breathe and she's in her own mind thinking about all those years of hardwork and dancing to those emotions of sorrow and the bittersweet finale. Her little jumps and gentle wing spread looks like she's being set free and the music makes it feel so tragically sweet. The scene where neuvi looks at her dancing to her own mind gives me such a lonely yet happy vibe, like she's choosing this dance as her last words instead of her farewell to neuvi.
In this moment Neuvillette truly felt what it means to be human. Knowing our pains and our joys. Having spent time with humanity for centuries and realizing that the time of the dragons is gone, and that humans are the true successors of Teyvat.
I think it's more like it's time the creatures from light realm and human realm try to live in harmony. As we see with his voiceline about nature and later with the vishaps resurfacing.
I heavily relate to Furina on a very deep, personal level. This scene hit so hard because in that moment, I wasn`t simply witnessing a fictional story, but also remembering my own history. Thank you Genshin for creating that character. Almost makes me feel like I`m in the game myself! :)
Not sure if anyone noticed, but if u look closely at 2:52, you can see one subtle small tear roll across Neuvillette's right cheek. He is so deeply saddened that not only it is heavily raining, but he is also able to express this with a tear, a human emotion. 😢
Can we all just agree that this is one of, if not _the best cutscene yet_ in Genshin? I've watched these three minutes and least five or ten times now, but I still can't get over how amazing it is.
having to experience yet another roller coaster of emotions from playing this quest has reminded me of why I loved and started playing Genshin Impact, after having to stop playing for a long time. thank you hoyo. the story is marvelous and how swaying it is, is beyond words
Ive always loved Furina solely for her design. But after the archon quest, I love Furina and Focalors for being one of the best character lore wise I have ever seen
I like that Focalors’ death was supposed to be quiet and peaceful to represent how she accepted her fate, but also the bubbles floating around shows the power that diminished when she died. Like what Zhongli told us happened to the God of Salt when she was killed.
I can’t help but revisit this scene over and over bc of how emotional and beautiful it is. The final part with Neuvillette alone in the heaviest rain yet, with the piano drawing to a close, his shoulders sagged and head bowed - man, it conveys just how much sadness and turmoil he is feeling in this moment as the sole witness of Focalors’ sacrifice
To be fair nobody really knows about what she did. Neuvillette has only told the Traveler about it so far. From the perspective of everybody else she's just a human who pretended to be an Archon and couldn't do anything to avert the disaster in Poisson. They also know that Egeria made them human. But nobody has the knowledge of anything in-between. We don't know yet why exactly Neuvillette told nobody about this, but he probably wouldn't say anything to people without Furina's permission. And I don't think Furina would want to become the center of attention this way again. That said, Paimon is aware of her sacrifices, yet acts so awfully during her Story Quest... And the Traveler doesn't even stop her? This made me so mad
First, only Traveller and Neuvillette are privy to the information, and no, they cannot tell the people about what happened because that would put Focalors sacrifice in vain. Second, to be blunt, Furina is considered as the reigning monarch of Fontaine. Let's say that the people are aware, should they apologize to their monarch because she did her duty? Don't get me wrong, Furina is one of the best character in game when it comes to development, but she was still their ruler. It was her job. Even she knew that so she never demanded an apology.
@@athankoh1 i mean, nobody said that its everyone else's fault that furina didnt receive an apology. im just trying to say how much of the torture it must have been to act an opera for 500 years to save the people, then receive nothing else for that effort.
@@_dragonflies_ i understand how the traveller is doing all of this just for his goal, but well this is going a bit too far, while he acted kindly with everybody else but not as kind to furina, especially when she suffered for more than 500 years.

That very final shot. Neuvillette has never been more...true. He's in his full powered dragon Sovereign form, with his flowy fin things. The sky is dark grey, it's raining heavily. He's not only the most powerful he's ever been, but also the most emotional he's ever been (maybe).

The way the sword kept following every step of hers to set her execution in stone and also provided her a spotlight for her final performance.. this video breaks my heart every time I see it. Furina's determination and Focalors' wisdom are truly admirable.
I have known for a fact that this execution was referenced from Marie Antoinnette. What I did not know is that she too danced her last dance before she was executed. Man..Genshin really does their homework.
The final dance is so poetic - Focalors danced as a form of farewell for Neuvillette while Furina danced as a closing performance to her 500 years of acting.

@@Yukyouz nah that's the first thing that came to my mind
@myronholy2999no one cares
@Kittycute357did i asked?
There is something that i realized from the death of the recent archons.
Raiden Makoto : No one in Inazuma really knows about her death, since there are 2 of them, except Miko.
Rukkhadevata : No one in Sumeru remembers her, even Nahida
Focalors : Everyone in Fontaine only knew Furina as Focalors, not knowing that they've been separated.
Personally, worst fear is everyone you know forgetting you, or having to live with knowing something no one else can or could know
Each archon is leaving his post, we see that they no longer want to rule and be free and let the others go free

The power Neuv used to “forgive” them comes from the Hydro Sovereign’s role as Teyvat’s God of Life- he “completed” the conversion process, removing the traces of Primordial Seawater in their blood that made them soluble in the first place.

Then it goes super tender when Focalors gives her final goodbye to Furina, and then it transitions from this tenderness to the big moment, but said moment is punctuated by that constant sad piano the entire time, and then only the sad piano remains and closes off the scene. Furina is such a broken human. She played the role of acting as a god for 500 years straight without anyone finding out her real identity. Even so, she did it to save the people of Fontaine because she believes it a necessary sacrifice. That's what makes her character a very compelling one.
Ikr! U should read about what the other Archon tells about her.

Worst part is until she saw outside, as far as she knew when the verdict was given, she had failed
500 years of putting up the act for everyone, and she's pleading for them to believe her because she doesn't want them to die. When you put it like that it becomes obvious why all the life went out of her once the verdict hit.
She is not broken. Those 500 years proved her strength. Now she can enjoy being free.
💔
it is more tragic yeah when u think about that Focalors could not live as a human not once but TWICE. She could not live as a human at first because she became a god of justice after Egeria died and then she could not live as a human as Furina because Furina had to act as a god for 500 years without aging. Focalors died being at least glad that Furina can live as a human for both of them.
Not exactly. She says:
"I spent a terribly long time mulling it over, alone on the ocean floor... and I was almost growing barnacles by the time I finally realized [...]"
Everyone talks about Furina's suffering for 500 years, but if you realise that Focalors had to live alone in nowhere for 500 years with the thought "i'm going to die", it becomes doubly tragic. They really share the same will and sense of justice.

Oh my god Hoyoverse, what a character they just made.
an extremely well written summary of fortaines selfless characters
Almost every character in genshin could be a peak if writers put efforts in that and give them enough screentime.
Sadly most Mondstadt's and Inazuma's characters didn't have such privilege.
@@ET-tt5nc Inazuma is a shame but I think that in the end of the game we will go back again to mondsdat for something very important and we will have more content of them.

Well said
Wow, you said so many things and they're all spot on.
There is one misunderstanding between all the furina simping community, focalors divinity is focalors herself, while furina is what focalors used to be in her early human days
It's been over a year now and this is still giving me chills and almost tears.. This is peak and in my opinion will probably never be topped by any game

2:42 love the parallels to Neuv’s demo and the fact that the rain continued to pour really showed that Neuv found it hard to hold back his grief in that moment. Just an incredible cutscene.
Omg thank you for explaining why the rain continuing to fall felt so emotional. Every time I rewatch this there's something else to appreciate
Focalors line calling furina the perfect imperfect human just hits different. I know it isnt in this cutscene but i had to mention it. The way she said it, you could her how much love focalor has for furina. Gosh fontaine is by far my fav part of the story line. I cried so many times.

I mean, deceiving the frickin CELESTIA is just so badass as an achievement and can’t easily be ignore! Fontaine archon quests in overall also proved to us that the future quests will be even more crazy and insane than this!
2:57 this is my favorite frame in the cutscene
Just Neuvilette, hovering alone in the sky as the rain falls around him
It’s so powerful
Especially with the context that it rains when he cries, and this is some HEAVY rain. Neuvilette is bawling his eyes out!
0:53 I don't know why, but I can't get over these few seconds of Furina dancing. Those moves keep haunting my mind. This was a gorgeous cutscene
Saaaame. The transition, can't get out of my head
honestly same, this is the part i kept repeating. couldn't get it out of my head, especially seeing how sad she looks. the transitions between focalors and furina are so well-done, this entire cutscene is amazing and painful to watch 💔
I think its because its on beat, But no she is absolutely nailed the dance
Same with me and also the step from 1:06 to 1:10
You may be subconsciously picking up on some of the symbolism.
“I, Iudex Neuvillette, hereby declare Fontaine people your sins are forgiven”

She also voiced jingliu from honkai star rail and its amazing I realised that after heaing focalors but not furina

"From this moment on, please live happily as a human, just as I wished we could." ("Pray live blissfully as a human, for that is what I wished for.")
Fontaine is ending in 4.8 before we move on to Natlan. This scene along with the entire 4.2 archon quest still kills me emotionally 😢. RIP Focalors

Phenomenal job from both Amber Lee Conners and Ray Chase in this scene. I haven't ugly cried in Genshin since Rukkhadevata, and their performance really hit me in the feels. And the music too!! The way it started from Focalors' theme, to Furina's and then to Neuvilette's was perfect
This was an empowering scene but also very sad.

I'm very happy how well they could convey Furina's five centuries' worth of despair holding her secret in and how much it's affected her, and how Focalors is affected as well. In comparison, Raiden battled herself for five centuries and she was basically unchanged when you return to her.

the part that gets me the most is the change from the fontaine theme/focalors theme into neuvillette's theme is so poetic of the transfer of power from archon to dragon sovereign between them and the way it crescendos to show his pain makes my heart ache, genshin truly peaked with this whole quest
This Archon Quest really made people change how they feel about Furina
For reeeeeeeal though. When she was first introduced I pretty much immediately was like "oh no I really don't like her attitude..." and this quest made me take a 180 and now I absolutely adore her.

"For the Sinner, the curtain call has come..."
We'll never forget how we enjoyed this archon quest so much 😭😭
That stagger after Focalors' death shows how much it affected him. And him crying when he went out to use the authority.
I heavily relate to Furina on a very deep, personal level. This scene hit so hard because in that moment, I wasn`t simply witnessing a fictional story, but also remembering my own history. Thank you Genshin for creating that character. Almost makes me feel like I`m in the game myself! :)
the way neuvillette looked blankly and sadly at focalors sacrifice made me cry, this scene really made a lot of people sad because of her sacrifice
Not sure if anyone noticed, but if u look closely at 2:52, you can see one subtle small tear roll across Neuvillette's right cheek.
He is so deeply saddened that not only it is heavily raining, but he is also able to express this with a tear, a human emotion. 😢

I can’t help but revisit this scene over and over bc of how emotional and beautiful it is. The final part with Neuvillette alone in the heaviest rain yet, with the piano drawing to a close, his shoulders sagged and head bowed - man, it conveys just how much sadness and turmoil he is feeling in this moment as the sole witness of Focalors’ sacrifice
she sacrifice she made and the things furina did just to receive no apologies whatsoever is truly heartbreaking
She as a furina and Focalors sacrifice.
