You need like a plastic collar that you can tuck around the inside of their shoe to help protect their sock & also help you get a good clean around the top edge without wetting or stuffing their sock.
I like these videos but I don't know if I would subscribe. I'd really like to see you add a before and after at the end. I'd also like to see sub text that explains what you're doing. Either of these things would make me subscribe. having to rewind all the way to the start and then all the way to the end multiple times to see the before and after its too frustrating, and having to guess or google to follow along just isn't fun.
Which is exactly why he didn't use the brush to dust them off with like he always does first. Whatever he put on them to look like that would of came right off and spoiled the illusion

There are better ways to hold a flame to something other than a simple lighter. Get a heat gun man, it's way easier to handle and way more accurate
