I have started looking over my old WPL trucks. I put them up after stripping out the diffs. One of the 6X6 I am doing up to look like one of the old 2.5 ton trucks I drove in the Marines.
I've got a white C24 with all the metal upgrades sat on a shelf. Need to get it put together, that looks really nice. Handled those big rocks really well. Nice vid..
yup, stock looking metal axle casings are 13 bucks for front+rear, not really sold on these big dollar "all metal" versions. the C24 and MN-D90 here have them now and both crawl really nice.
Just a tip because I use the hobby wing 1080 in four of my rigs. If you turn up the frequency to 8k or 16k (I believe it's either the 14th or 15th option) It will quiet down or silence that high-pitched whine. It's the pulse with modulation (pwm) option. 👍 I'm sure it's much easier to hear on camera than it is in person. Great vid though.

@@TomleyRC with the stock plastic frame parts and lighter other parts those A285004 shocks may need lighter springs is all, not a problem with the heavier MN D90

I've built few C-14 and C-24. The one is Super LCG belly dragger, another is LCG with extended wheel base from 190 to 245 mm ands one is 6x6 rig. I never exceed 200$ per rig starting from scratch except the 6x6 where I invested 300+ $ Very comfortable platform for builds and experiments ;-)
I bought a c24 kit and upgraded it with metal parts, costed me about 130$-ish usd including a dumborc x6 and a cheap 20a red pcb esc, the modulation is quite similar in this video, the only difference in my build is the shocks and the axles, I went with the scale looking wpl metal axles for a more realistic look.

Hey any thoughts about installing a dig in this little truck, if that could work to give it a drag brake and more ability, maybe wider, larger tires and reposition the rear shocks even more to drop the CG? Does that make any sense to you?
Not massively over the new versions of the C24/14 have metal gears and better gearbox now anyway. But compared to the old plastic geared ones, yes...very good!

@@rcclan search eBay toys and hobbies for A285004 are about 12 bucks a set of 4. if you have a decent local hardware store you can get softer springs for them if needed.
Picked up a RTR C24-1 for my nephew for Christmas. Just got delivered today. Had to make sure it was okay of course! First time I have seen a WPL in person and was really impressed. Thinking about getting the kit version but don't want to go mad with electronics. Would something like the esc out of the Hobby Plus CR18 with the 2S lipo be suitable?
My advice mate is to get the WPL ‘RES-V3’ Electronics kit along with tour kit. It’s the cheapest option to get it running, and is actually a decent set up. But if you have some stuff already it should work fine as the little 180s don’t use to much current

Great video as always 👍 Do you think it's worth going with the wpl RES-V3 radio, esc and sound controller all in one over the your set up with the dumbo rc controller and esc? I'm not worried about the sound of the engine and the obvious price difference.

Hi tomley I have a wpl b1 and the drive shafts keeps slipping and the truck won't move, do the driveshafts already have a flat side of the output shafts? I have the older wpl b1, if so I have metal driveshafts with grub screws

I've upgraded a few of mine with a 370 motor, ESC w/ brakes. 2-sp trans, metal D-shafts, axle housings and brass gears. bigger wheels and tires. I have maybe $ 85 max
Hey I've been having some power trouble with my wpl c24 I put a 370 motor in it and it will crawl but not over things very well. I could be trying to crawl up some rocks and it will stop like there is no power and I have to double check my controller for it to move and even that doesn't help it. Do you have any ideas on what's making it do that?
hey man thx for all the content! quick question: I have a C14 and C24-1 (stock 130 and 180 motors respectively) and the electronics died.. I'm looking to upgrade to an Austar AX7s transmitter and receiver/esc combo but I can't find the voltage rating anywhere... do you know if that's compatible with both 130 and 180 motors if I solder on some new wire with JST connectors? I already have 7.4v batteries w/ JST connectors and 3-wire servos for both, but wanted to use the stock motors w/ upgraded electronics if possible
@@TomleyRC perfect! and I should be fine just removing the 2-wire leads that came on the 130/180 motors and soldering on leads with JST connectors? leaving the motor capacitor in place? any specific leads to get/avoid?
@@michaelmcdonald1620 Should be good. As long as the motor is getting Voltage, you should be good. Those little ones don't generate to much heat/current under normal conditions
I have a wpl c24 and I'm trying t o save money for the upgrades so far I put a 480 engine from a fc model f1 the engine is good but no way to regulate the speed I'm going g to put the stock tires back on
u can also buy c44km and maybe buy better oil suspension it also includes free wintch and u have as good crawler as this is, maybe even better for everything, we talking about less then 150eur..thats what i did with my c44. and to me its insanely capable crawler.
it is looking amazing! I also got oil shocks. but the springs are to stiff. so cheap it doesn't matter. i still use the originals. until i find softer shocks.
Hey dude I just got one of these and I’m having some steering issues. When I turn the steering wheel left there’s a loud clicking and the wheels don’t turn but it works to the right. I’ve tried dialing it in but I’m new to this rc stuff so I have no clue what I’m doing. Hoping someone can help
@@TomleyRC ended up taking the cabin off and getting down to the gear box and had to open it up and there was a torn o ring on the inside pushing all the gears so they were meshing with teeth unaligned. Appreciate the quick response and help
Hi , these rc are not junk they are low entry price point but like the expensive guys they come all plastic and some metal gears . When you upgrade then then they become different . The same like the big guys out of the box even if they cost 400 quid they still need to be upgraded to become better. Some of the expensive boys even dare put junk electronics and your paying 400 not 40 .

Don’t forget with that fully adjustable four-link you can point the nose of the differential up so your drive shafts are more straight

I bought that full metal chassis in Amazon for $162 to put it on a FAYEE MN-90 Land Rover and fits dead-on point. Very smoothe, and heavy 👍

Hello mate... I’ve not been able to find them separately... they come with the chassis. Good oil shocks have been a pain to find for most of the WPLs

I put a bit of super glue on them to stop them slipping. Or you can get metal ones pretty cheap

I found that the steering hits the shocks in the front when you turn full left or right , is that not enough to be a problem ?

Yes, the 130/180 motors are fine on 7.4V. In fact, they are usually ok on 11.1V as well

Turn your 1080 esc to pwm 16.000hz (its in the options) and then its silent. these beeeep is annoying.
