    Weird question, I drive the hell out of my 2013 armada RWD but it’s sitting at 104k miles and well it’s running a bit slower and I hear a bit of a whirring sound when I accelerate slowly in first, then it takes a bit to put the power down when I give it more gas, that a transmission issue? Or engine problem? Love the video by the way I started a while back wanting to repair my vehicles myself, I also plan on going to UTI to learn more.

      The sad part is how well the subburbans hold value. No one wants a 265k mile chevy for 12 grand.

      What happens if you put in reverse does that work correctly? If that works correctly then I'm going to say it's a valve body. If that does not work correctly then it could be the pump or clogged filter or inadequate amount of fluid.
      Also that vehicle has a transmission dipstick so you should be able to determine the quality of the fluid and the quantity.

    I have a 2012 nissan armada with 105,000 miles on it. No fluid change has been done on the transmission. The fluid looks dark but not black. Do you think I can still do the fluid change or flush, thanks.

    • @themarginalmechanic5928
      @themarginalmechanic5928  4 роки тому

      As long as the fluid is not sludgy or smells like burnt oil than I personally believe it's safe to change.

    • @TmuxpridE
      @TmuxpridE 4 роки тому

      @@themarginalmechanic5928 I believe it is not but I wonder if the clutch friction materials have been worn thats why that fluid is dark since i am doing it by myself and I am not sure if there is a filter for the transmission fluid?

    • @themarginalmechanic5928
      @themarginalmechanic5928  4 роки тому

      There are two primary reasons for transmission fluid to get dark. The first one is that the red dye found in new transmission fluid degrades over time and the fluid becomes darker. The second contributor to the darkening of transmission fluid accumulation of clutch materials suspended in the fluid. A very thick sludgy fluid strongly suggest excessive clutch material in suspension. Typically sludgy transmission fluid will also have the smell of being burnt. I believe the Armada does have a transmission filter. I generally recommend that the transmission that hasn't been changed in a long time you do at least one change of fluid and then drive it for a day or two and then do a second change along with the filter.

    • @themarginalmechanic5928

      I believe it's safe if two conditions are met. The fluid is not sludgy or smells burnt. It's okay if it's dark.

    My 2012 Nissan nv2500 has 150k.. previous owner said he's never changed the fluid. Should I just drain and fill or change the filter too?

    • @BrandonContracting
      @BrandonContracting 5 років тому

      @@themarginalmechanic5928 I did check it last night and it's a honey golden color. Apparently Nissan did this from the factory according to some. Didn't smell burnt but then again I've never smelled burnt fluid, my gmc sierra has a fresh transmission service I guess I could compare the smell of fluids with it. I was thinking I could drain and fill with new fluid, then wait a couple months and do it again with a new filter. My owners manual doesn't have a change interval for the transmission.

    • @BrandonContracting
      @BrandonContracting 5 років тому

      @@themarginalmechanic5928 well I did the drain and fill tonight. Unfortunately the fluid was dark brown. I don't know if it smelled burnt or not. The NV has a factory trans cooler and based on the gauge in the dash the trans temp was cold didn't really get warm at all. Not sure what's going to happen. I used 4L of Matic S. Do you think I should do another drain and fill soon? If so how many miles do you think is enough before performing this job again? Also when picking up the fluid at the dealer I was told not to change the filter because it's just a screen...? No idea but they said they rarely ever change them.
