Nice product and I like the way you demonstrate it and also discuss any potential issues. I’ve also been thinking about a similar solution for a different kind of pest - ants. I find whenever I put out food for my cat, if she doesn’t finish it completely in a very short time, the bowl is very quickly covered in ants. I also have a neighbour who had similar issues with an automatic dry cat food feeder which he used to feed his cats when he was away for a few days. It wasn’t long before ants found their way in the device. The reason I mention this is because it might give you additional potential markets for this product or a variation of it.
Hey appreciate the feedback, as i wrote below my girlfriends parents acctually adapted a slugstand for this use! And someone else mentioned it. That would be great to test, i think it would work!
I've done this in a makeshift fashion before - it's surprising how far they can stretch if they really and to get somewhere. Water-filled moats do seem to be the best way of keeping slugs and snails away from pots
Interesting. Have you perhaps tried the copper tape around the central pillar for the successful swimmers? Tape on its own does not seem effective (but many years since I tried it), And have you tried a mouse test? I have the mice as well getting in on the act (mainly growing food).
I haven't yet.... I have actually been doing an experiment with copper and it's effectiveness the last 3 evenings and it's surprised me actually, I'll probably have the video ready in 5 days time or so. And I haven't actually tried with Mice, i am pretty confident they'd find it very difficult to get to potted plants as it's a smooth surface they'd have to hold onto after jumping the water! Give it a try maybe?!
@@stopslugs The internet tells me that mice can swim, yet I drown them fairly readily (and quickly) in water traps! You would be surprised what mice can climb, even vertical relatively smooth laminate in pantry cupboards. A cheaper alternative to copper tape could be double-sided tape, then apply a coarse sand? Maybe diatomaceous earth?
Instead of water, road salt, in a thin layer in these containers prevents slugs and snails crossing and will kill them, but will need changing periodically.

Your right, It is surprising, my prototypes failed a lot i made a video about that, they would even help eachother cross the barriers!
Good idea. I will give it a try.
Please do! It's on at a reduced price etc currently as i have no reviews yet, the links above. :)
Great mosquito breading conditions.
I discuss this in the video near the end, easily avoided :)

That'll certainly do the trick also!
This works for keeping ants out of pet food too.
For sure! You can adapt it for that, or as a bird feeder for slugs
Get rid of Slugs buy some Ducks.
Yep, great for those who can/ are interested:)
Quite a few slugs!
Haha, yes! They ate that plant pretty badly, it only took 3/4 days
@@stopslugs Dang!
Add salt to the water, they won't even go cloase to it. You can also add salt instead of water.
That's true, as long as the wind doesn't blow it away, salt water is probably even better.
Put salt in the water, that will stop any slugs attempting the crossing!
It sure will! 😄
Just be careful if it's raining to wash lots of salt into your earth.
