We just received some AIRFIX kits one of which is the Hurricane. My son wants to build it so we will go at it this Thanksgiving weekend. HAPPY THANKS GIVING everyone.!!
The door on the right side of the cockpit is not a hinged access door, its a push out panel to ease the pilot, if he has to bail out... Nice model though
Coming back into the hobby after many years (so many changes!), your videos are a great help - many thanks. I have just bought the new-tool Hurri, so much better than the one I had when I was nine, this guide helps me a lot - again, many thanks, keep up the good work!
A thing of beauty the Spitfire may be, but I'm a Hurricane man and always have been. You have done a spectacular job sir. I was late catching up with this video but it's impressive as usual.
Liked the tip about re-sizing the colour plan and cutting stencils from it, but how exactly do you do that? Is it something you can do on a Scanner perhaps? Pardon my ignorance here but I have no idea how to do it!
You have to measure the image between two panel lines, then measure the model. Figure out the size difference (divide the model measurement by the photo) and then print at that size. Ie print at 133%.
You've done a fantastic job with this hurricane. It looks excellent! I'm not going to tell you how you should have it as its your model but just a bit of history for ya. This livery I believe is from the Paris air show. This means it would've been kept very clean.
OUTSTANDING!!!! Please tell me what type of adhesive did you use for placing down your Camouflage pattern(s) & what's your recipe for your "Black Oil Wash"? I kindly thank you in advance and hope to hear a response soon!!!!
Very nice build, Martin! I see you used the paper mask technique that I like to use too, when I mask, by creating full size paper masks from the painting guide on the photo-copier and zoom function. It's a great technique for get that softer edge on the demarcation lines. Cheers, Martin : )
Hi David- Thanks for making the video, it's appreciated. I noticed on the topside of the hurricane you used what looked like a mix of thinned oil paint, but on the bottom side you used (what looked like) Tamiya panel line wash. I'd like to know your opinion... when do you use which one, and what's the difference? Thanks!
Hi! Very nice, I couldn't match your build in 100 year. I started plastic modelling mainly aircraft since I'm 11 year old. I stopped modelling when I'm 17. Although I still got a dozen of model unfinished. Still in the box. I've never buy a Hurricane before but I love it. I'm now in 50's and to start back in modelling may seems a daunting task. So now I'm in RC aircraft, flying a foamie, since it's more affordable and not so time consuming affairs to me. Sorry...
Hi martin, A very good build as usual... Just a quick thing: the door on the left is supposed to stay closed... it is an emergency exit :) Keep posting those very nice builds it is great
Hurricanes were slower than Spitfires, so RAF sent them after the slower German bombers and the Spitfires went after the German fighters. Of course everyone shot at any target they could get. Great build as always. Thank you.
hi. very nice again. just one question on the landing gear shaft - is it just silver ? I see a lot of kit being painted basically in the color of the bottom camouflage. is that right ? or just to save time aas this is obviously not a competition kit.. thnx
+Peter Ruman It's hard to say, but bottom camouflage definitely not. There are two variants light green or aluminum. I prefer aluminum, because you can see that on many original hurricanes.
amazing looking model man! iv painted alot of warhammer iny time but im now moving onto some revell and airfix kits to try my painting skills. what is the make and product of the blacl oil/was you use to make the detail pop on the flaps and cracks please? really nice vid and the music is fitting :)
***** yes, this one...aha thanks for the info, im new in this world, so its a lot of thinks that i have to learn, i coming for miniature world, i paint a lot of them, so i can use the same for make the wash that im using for the minis? like citadel washes or army paiter products or is some other diferent for that? thanks for the info.
Nicely done, but the emergency hatch on the right side never hung off the side like a Spitfire's did.. it was completely detachable from the aircraft, even when it was being serviced.....
I am really impressed how easy you make it look. :) Am I wrong, but did I see you not using primer on the interior? I think I've seen the same in some of your other videos. Always a pleasure to see your builds. Keep up your awsome builds. :)
The intstructions call for aluminum floor and foot pedals and brick red for the armour plate behind the pilots seat. and aluminum on the inside of the undercarriage wheel wells.
Very nice build :) I have a small question btw, do you wipe the oil wash away right after you painted it on the modell or do you wait for it to dry and wipe it off with a wet towel after that?
Usually you wait for like an hour or so (you could wait for up to a few days, oil paints it normally dries properly in like 5-10 days) and then start wiping it with a dry towel if you want a worn look. But if you want the wash to only stay in the panel lines and keep the rest of the model pristine then you probably should wet the towel with a bit of enamel thinner and then wipe it down.
ahoj, pekný Huroš, ... ako prosím vytvoríš pozadie pri fotení modelu, myslím ten prechod bledomodrej a bielej, je to cez photoshop - gradient tool ? díky moc
Hi Martin, another fantastic build! The masking you create from the paper cut outs looks to work a treat. I have a couple of questions for you regarding the weathering (which would be fantastic if you could go into more detail in your builds). What do you use for your washes? You say it's an oil wash but it looks like a Tamiya bottle? How long do you leave it on before wiping off? Being oil, does the Final matt coat adhere to it ok, do you use an acrylic clear coat? It would be really useful if you could go into more detail with the weathering as I'm finding that the hardest part of my builds currently. Thanks my friend :)
Amazing paint job! But I wonder why do you made almost all your models so dark? I like the worn look but you use too dark warnish IMHO. Colours shall be lighter for the scale model compared to the prototype to give a feeling of size and distance. Your models are extremely detailed but too contrast colors made them a toy look. Or maybe it's something with my monitor ;)
UKscalemodeller I've got no proper paint or glue. I do like building models ( built a Ferrari enzo) but because I had no red I had to put it in a army green from my leftover paints. I have built a couple of spitfires and one foke wulf biplane D - somthing. But there nothing compared to this guys work
On youtube I post some gaming videos of random stuff but I've never done a model building video. I kind of ran out of models to build, and the ones I have built have either been broken, lost, or stolen by my brother
UKscalemodeller I do like building models though, that's why I watch these videos. So that when I do get a model to build, I will use a few tips and tricks from this to help me
Heyhey, I was wondering what do you use to remove the black paint from the wing (9.27min of the video). I just started doing models and I would like to be able to give my plane the same effect. Thanks for the reply !
Of all the British WW2 fighters I have a special fondness for the Hurricanes
yes merlins are great engines arent they!?
Spitfires and mustangs are better
There are certainly better aircraft, but I think out of all WW2 aircraft the Hurricane is still my favorite.
Frederick J. Meccia if only they put a griffon engine in there. The thing would spit out crazy speed and fire in a good way
Randy Cheow yeah but they where not the workhorse of the Battle of Britain
Your preplanning and build is spectacular, I learn a lot from you, thank you for the effort to teach us new guys.

Outstanding build!!
I like the idea using the masking technique!! Thanks for the ideas and for sharing.
Also Great music!!
Instablaster.
I only wish you showed how you did the navigation lights.
I doubt about doing mine since it's already painted...
Brilliant finish on the Hurricane, she looks great!
I like this but I wish you went over the cockpit detailing and what you did with the nav lights
Liked the tip about re-sizing the colour plan and cutting stencils from it, but how exactly do you do that? Is it something you can do on a Scanner perhaps? Pardon my ignorance here but I have no idea how to do it!

@@TheModelGuy Thank you, very useful indeed, I'll try that!
Excellent build. For the masking, you could always just give the shields a light coat of artist spray glue.
The kick=out panel is for emergencies only. It is NOT for pilot access.
You've done a fantastic job with this hurricane. It looks excellent! I'm not going to tell you how you should have it as its your model but just a bit of history for ya. This livery I believe is from the Paris air show. This means it would've been kept very clean.
Thanks for the info. That sounds interesting.
PLASMO - plastic models No problem! Still a really excellent build!
This version of the Hurricane was also used by the Belgium Air Force in 1939/40.
I do not know how their Hurricanes got on in combat.
OUTSTANDING!!!! Please tell me what type of adhesive did you use for placing down your Camouflage pattern(s) & what's your recipe for your "Black Oil Wash"? I kindly thank you in advance and hope to hear a response soon!!!!
oh dear god, what a beautiful model, stunning!!
Another amazing model
Well done !! But : What do you use as a putty to hold the masks to paint the camouflage?
The REAL unsung hero of the raf...
Horus lupercal hurricane for the win as it was used more
Awesome work

How did you scale the camo drawings to match the scale of the plane?
Damn good... really damn good. Unfortunately I do not have an airbrush so am painting the same model with brushes. One day hopefully I will have one.
thats another fantastic build David. I really enjoy watching you work. Always learn new techniques!!!
Fantastic build I like how you mask your camo up I might try that my self
Hi martin,
A very good build as usual...
Just a quick thing: the door on the left is supposed to stay closed... it is an emergency exit :)
Keep posting those very nice builds it is great
Impressionnant
V good. The masking idea using the instruction drawing is great though - thanks for that

Fantastic build mate
Lovely work! I just would have liked to see more exhaust residue. Salute!
Wonderful video of your build. What is the tool you're using at 8:09, please?
It is Kores gumfix.
Martin, are You moistening the paper that you use to wipe of the excess oil wash with thinner or is it dry?
Thanks

Super, krásné,neuvěřitelné.:-))

+Simon Dodsworth Thanks, black oil is classic balck oil paint for example Abteilung and thinned by x-20 made by tamiya
Can you please tell me what is this black think with what you cocer the plane...and what do you use to take it out? And why you do that? Thanks
Super work and terrific video to match - thanks for sharing your work. (The music fits really well and is very uplifting!)
Nicely done, but the emergency hatch on the right side never hung off the side like a Spitfire's did.. it was completely detachable from the aircraft, even when it was being serviced.....
just a simple question, what did you use for the silver on the belly of the fuselage
and as always, nice build
Sir hi, how do make your wash, i.e to say what medium do you mix with your oil color ?
As always Martin, another great build and video.
His name is David.
I was looking at this one to get it later this year but after see your one I order it on Monday very nice job on it
Excellent video, well made and instructive, thanks!
PLASMO i want to start airbrushing but what supplies do i need PS.Cool model 😊
+Rene Cawley You will need airbrush and compressor. That is all.
+Rene Cawley For my first airbrush I went with an AS-186. Fine for small jobs, not a bad started kit if you ask me
what varnish and dark washes are you using
Very pretty!
if i paint the silver colour as the basic, which colour can be the
deviation? Stainless steel color?
I am really impressed how easy you make it look. :) Am I wrong, but did I see you not using primer on the interior? I think I've seen the same in some of your other videos. Always a pleasure to see your builds. Keep up your awsome builds. :)
You make masterpieces

great detail!!!
excellent
I had a hurricane model slightly different because it had 3 propellers instead of 2 but I swear other than that this was exactly the same as mine.

Nice, well done!
What do you make your wash from?
Enamel thinner and oil paints.
PLASMO - plastic models thanks
molto bello!!!!!
Please do my father's B-24D from the Ploesti raid of Aug. 1, 1943!
Wow! You are really talented! :D
Beautiful. I wish I could create models like this, but if I could my brother would probably just use them as toys and brake them
Cameron Bennett but at least you had made them. I say give it a go :)
