I show Dutch commercials to my American husband and brother in law! Let me know in the comments what the Dutch words of the week should be for next week!
"Dutch" actually means "German" too. It's just that it's caught on as a way of referring to things from the Netherlands. The White House actually send a letter to Centraal Beheer (the insurance campany) to forbid them to use that commercial with Bill Clinton. That letter now is framed and showed at the site of the company for everybody to see, proud of it!
I believe the one with Adam and Eve was banned by the Americans as well... You'd expect them to have a sence of humor, considering the president they've chosen...
@Just Curious Well, it might be a Dutch insurance company from origin, but it's commercials and therewith their insurances go over the world. But you might be right, it's something I've been told a long time ago...
The "Centraal Beheer" commercials are absolutely in a league of their own. They are famous here in The Netherlands, and have been for decades. The main theme in all of them is "having bad luck". Their slogan "even apeldoorn bellen" ("better call Apeldoorn", loosely translated) is somewhat synonymous to "that sucks, dude". Legendary.

I personally thought the Lion on the roof commercial was one of the least funny ones. As for a non-Even Apeldoorn Bellen commercial that would've been a very good one on the list or a future list: the Gouden Gids commercial about the shark-aquarium with the guy cleaning the floors hitting one of the windows and cracking it, with the maintenance guy calling some companies for a replacement and upon hearing they only have frosted glass instead of clear going like "They only have frosted glass!!" And the guy who cracked the window and is hoping to hold it together is like "Yea, yea, do that, do that!" and the maintenance guy is like "Nah, they will see that instantly..." and then the big shark turns up in the end swimming towards the window.
Stefan Nijenhuis mwah.
Funny thing is that those Apeldoorn commercials were almost axed, because they didn't actually work that well immediately. Only after they received a lot of complaints from people who loved them, did they realize that they weren't driving up sales immediately (which in the Dutch market for insurance would be hard anyway, since many types can only be switched once a year) but driving brand recognition. Second issue: 'Apeldoorn' is a city, not the company. So, the commercials came back, but with the name of the insurer added subtly, 'Call Apeldoorn' was meant to mean 'call our main office in Apeldoorn' but people were trying to find the insurer 'Apeldoorn'. I worked in Marketing research. I saw a ton of these that didn't make it to TV. :-P

Video is trouwens super gemonteerd ... Echt heel knap gedaan :)
Anyone remember the old Douwe Egberts commercial with the 2 grandma's speaking "straattaal" it's too bad you didn't include that one allthough it's hard to get across well I guess.
Even Apeldoorn bellen; eigenlijk altijd wel hilarisch.
Yeah these commercials are funny. Some I feel should have been included from Heineken, are the landing on Mars and the walking fridge. I also really like the one from the LOI where a family goes to an Italian restarant and picks up on the waiters talking about his family in Italian. Oh right from Centraal Beheer, the one with the 'bomb in your duck?' was epic too.
I've seen this (11:45) commercial like a 1000 times back in the day. But now after 25 years I realise that it's Spud (Ewen Bremner) from Trainspotting.... Also acting like Spud.
I loved that you showed one of my all-time favorites,... the Clinton commercial. I remember seeing it for the first time in the Cinema and I had a laughing fit for at least 5 very long minutes.
Next time...let them hear Flappie first. (Or explain it) And then show them the bol.com Flappie commercial. Preferably with subtitles even, if possible.
Weinig inhoud of doordenkers grapjes

Video is trouwens super gemonteerd ... Echt heel knap gedaan :)
After that "walk-in fridge", you should have done Bavaria's "walking fridge" :p
My favourite dutch commercial will always be 'Volkswagen oud vrouwtje'. It's always been so hilarious to me.
Anyone remember the old Douwe Egberts commercial with the 2 grandma's speaking "straattaal" it's too bad you didn't include that one allthough it's hard to get across well I guess.
It's in part 2
Even Apeldoorn bellen; eigenlijk altijd wel hilarisch.
Yeah these commercials are funny. Some I feel should have been included from Heineken, are the landing on Mars and the walking fridge. I also really like the one from the LOI where a family goes to an Italian restarant and picks up on the waiters talking about his family in Italian.
Oh right from Centraal Beheer, the one with the 'bomb in your duck?' was epic too.
Geweldig dit! Dit vraagt om een deel 2. Mijn complimenten!!!
I missed the aquarium cormmercial from gouden gids. They used it for many years ands is so classic.
Ik moet zo lachen om jullie. Geweldige video’s. :-)
I've seen this (11:45) commercial like a 1000 times back in the day. But now after 25 years I realise that it's Spud (Ewen Bremner) from Trainspotting.... Also acting like Spud.
please part 2! put in the video of an old woman selling her old red Volkswagen
Where is the cleaner with the shark??? The best 'even Apeldoorn bellen' commercial ever
She speaks English so well, omg
I loved that you showed one of my all-time favorites,... the Clinton commercial. I remember seeing it for the first time in the Cinema and I had a laughing fit for at least 5 very long minutes.
Hahaha enjoyed that one! i'm Dutch and i forgot some of these and didn't see them for a long time! thanks
“that’s really funny”🙂
Of bot begraven Melkunie ;-)

Thank this was too funny and Very Nice Guys 🤗🤗🤗
React to the ‘old’ video of america first netherlands second from arjen lubach thats amazing 😂😂
The one with the lion from Even Apeldoorn Bellen is my fave..! You should show that one next time!
or with the shark :), ow that was 'gouden gids', still good though ua-cam.com/video/E3IieVxTUCo/v-deo.html
Yeah, was thinking about that one too. And the one with the rasta in the little car....
Even Apeldoorn bellen is altijd grappig😂😂
Actually, the Clinton commercial was taken off the air early at request of the Whitehouse.
Awesome Joseffa. Bedenk nog meer van deze shit! 2 thumbs up!
This had me dead OMG 😂
The laughing switch flikked at the hyena part where she was laughing XD
Next time...let them hear Flappie first. (Or explain it)
And then show them the bol.com Flappie commercial. Preferably with subtitles even, if possible.
I already laughed before the video began. I knew it would be hilarious!
"Die paula is een koe"
"Koekje erbij"
"Lays chips reclame"
Weinig inhoud of doordenkers grapjes
Im a Dutch man living in L.A and it’s so fun to see those commercials now 🤣🤣
