President Lincoln II + 10 and 12 metres mobile review

- This is a review of an amateur radio 10 and 12 metres mobile, but it seems like a portal between the 11-meter world and ham radio. The President Lincoln II + brought back some good memory to me about my first discovery years in ham radio, at the time the 10-meter band was “open” and I remember doing DX in my pickup truck using a similar radio. Let me know if this type of radio as the same effect on you.

Pascal, same here. This radio brings us back in the days.
I have the same radio I purchased it new Canada 5 years ago - and it was already 11m capable. I'm a Trucker that drives up to 20,000 km / month. Over the last 30 years I have used several different radios. This has been the best of all. Be aware that your 2A fuse that runs your typical Cobra will not last 10 seconds. This radio requires a 6A fuse and you need to also up the CB fuse at your fusebox which is likely 3A to 6A. If you run it off a 12V battery you are bypassing the trucks fuse panel you are good with the 6A inline fuse the radio comes with. Lots of truckers get their radios modified for more power, channels , Roger beep, echo etc. This radio - in Canada has all of that and much more right out of the box. No modification is necessary.
I had the President HR2510 as well one of the best radios I ever had. Mine was altered for 10 as well as 11 meters but no 12. I am glad to have another President.
Thank you sir ijust bought a lincon ii plus and your tips on progreming was a great help, 73 from jack in INDINA
I still have the original President Lincoln! It’s still awesome!
You have done an excellent job demonstrating the President Lincoln II+. Thank you for sharing. I have decided to get one of these radios and set it up as a base station. Maybe later on I will go mobile. 73's!
OK I am two years after the fact of you posting this comment lol I love these radios they make great base stations and mobile rigs hard to be for what they are and all the functionality within an affordable price
Thank you very much for your information and stories. Very interesting.
Nice review! I just went and checked on my old President Jackson. It hasnt been on well, probably over a quarter of a century now. It still has the slide rack that I had in my CJ-7 Jeeps so probably early 90s at the latest. I think I will fire it up soon after I get a Lincoln II and hopefully my General license. For now, WRJQ238 (GMRS)
thank you for showing how the manual VFO operates. no other review of these type of radios shows this and i think it's so important, especially for hams
Excellent video very informative I will have to get one of those rigs.

Many thanks for the honest review, excellent.
Thanks for watching! 73 Pascal VA2PV
Thanks Mate, I enjoyed your story about cb radio, I was into it at the same time period here in Sydney Australia VK and the President Grant series was what I lusted after amount other things lol. I now have a nice collection of as new rigs that wren red hot at this time period. Thank you Pascal 73 Richard vk2ual
Thank you for sharing Richard. 73 Pascal VA2PV
I had a twenty five ten and it was a great radio. I see all you guy's reviewing these radio makes me want one. I just don't know if my mate would let me get one
Hi Pascal. Thanks for another good review. I have the Lincoln ll and the Lincoln ll+ and they are a great budget radio. It will never be on par with the major manufactures of Ham Radio but comes a close second. Regards Daren G7 EMK. PS I see you still have that space ready for an iCOM IC 7610. LOL.
Thanks for sharing Daren. I got the question on the French version of this video "It that your TS-990 replacement?", hihi. I'm considering seriously installing the President Lincoln II+ into my Jeep, will see this summer. And yes, I'm hoping to replace soon the TS-990 to fill the empty space on my shelf and the IC-7610 is my top pick for now. 73 Pascal VA2PV
I had one, a UNIDEN 2510, and loved it. If I remember right, it was only 25W SSB, 12.2W AM.
Great radio. Works well on 10,11 and 12 meters. Thanks for the great video!!
I am struggling with deciding between the President Lincoln 2+ and the Anytone AT-6666. Any thoughts?
@@ericc5598 which did you choose ?
Would be a fun radio to have in the car with your local 29.680 repeater in the Gatineau. I'm often on 10fm in Ottawa....lots of fun when there is an opening.
can anyone elaborate on the noise blanking/filtering? I know there isn't alot of control, but my current 10 meter rig doesn't deal well with my neighborhood noise. In fact, it's almost unusable because of consistent S5+ noise floor. Hoping something comes along like this nostalgic radio that can deal with that a little better. I used to have a 2510, then Lincoln (original)...sold it all years ago and now see this. Thanks for any comments and appreciate the review!
Hi, where is that big TS-990 at? lol, just Wondering what is that little color radio up there with the nice colors? There are alot of great 10 meter radio's on the market now.Thanks,. Keep up the good work...
Excellent. Many thanks 👍🏻 73 de G0GCQ
I own an HR2510 as well. It has about 10 hours of talk time / usage. The only mod was to unlock CB channels. There has been no power modification done. I have not used the radio in about 12 to 15 years (if memory serves me).
Do you still own the 2510?
Good video 👍
How can I do to give gain to the radio?
Can somebody tell me how I can get that EMG 1/2 out of my scan?? I programed 1 tot 6 but this annoying EMG keeps inside of the scans!! Thanks!
Question do you know if the data system on the back of the President Lincoln 2+ works .
Does the receiver blank when using the up and down buttons, meaning it is nearly impossible to easily listen while you change Frequencies ?
Nice looking radio, I’m just not sure, I don’t care that it doesn’t have a vfo, and I took it that the radio wasn’t aligned properly, though it wasn’t bad. Thanks for the review KG7VDN, 73
Hi Bobby the radio is aligned properly and working within specs. It doesn't have any TCXO so if you compare with a high rig that does it maybe a little bit off. The specs say under 300 Hz, in my test with my friend in SSB it was about 80 Hz. This performance is similar to many HF, link the TS-850, FT-840, etc. It does look good and I think the green is the best colour for this rig. Thanks for watching. 73 Pascal VA2PV
Laboenligne.ca okay I may have missed the numbers, my apologies , KG7VDN 73
You can use the clarifier for both transmit and receive so you arrant off frequency
RX only. 73
What is the spectral purity of this radio like? I've seen and read that similar types of radio can produce 'spurs' outside the band!😱
Would have loved to see this used with a CW key, but otherwise great review.
allo et merci pour la video 73 de base snoopy
I just recently got the President Lincoln II plus I have one question win you use the built-in SWR meter is there a way to turn it back off or does it just stay on after that
It didn't say anything about turning the function back off in the manual just how to bring it up
What is the radio that is turned on above the President Lincoln box with the somewhat green display, just seems interesting, curious to know?
That is not a radio, it's my UrbanBeam antenna SDA 2000 controller. Check out my videos on my channel for more details. 73
Great video. Can you tell me what antenna the company recommended for you to use.
Michael VA6XMB
Thanks Michael. They sent me a mobile antenna, see the link below. But in the shack I used my SteppIR UrbanBeam on 10M.

For mobile use a Stainless Steel whip is hard to beat especially over ANY electrically shortened antennas!
Sky's the limit on Base Antennas!
very nice radio , have bought one 73 de Robert pa3geo
Could you make a video on how well it performs CW and filtering?
I do not work CW a lot, plus the 10 M band it's mostly close currently. 73
Hello i have this radio in my truck. It performs well however you MUST set the radio up for the function you intend to use before leaving your house. The radio is to difficult to make any changes while waiting at a stop light to change. Other than that it is better suited for base operation than mobile unless you intend to leave it pre programed in the driveway before you leave. Very good review. 73 KY4JIM
I laughed when I saw the CW mode on a mobile radio. I'm pretty sure keying and driving would be heavily frowned upon. 🤣
WHERE CAN I BUY PLEASE
Not many reviewers mention the VOX option.
no mention of losing audio momentarily when the vfo is turned, meaning you cannot tune around the band quickly
Hi Douglas, I guess I didn't noticed since its a step VFO (click, click, click). 73
9 and 19 are the emergency CB channels in Europe.
I see no main HAM transceiver on your desk still. Any update what is happening with this?
True, yes I'm waiting for something. There will be something new in April ;-) But I have a main transceiver right now, it's my Expert Electronics MB1. 73 Pascal VA2PV
@@Laboenligne You are teasing us! Yes, you have the MB1, but I think that is not really your 'main' rig :)
I am excited to see what you will end with. I have some thoughts of course...
@@johnratcliffe6438 Yes, my MB1, but there's no reason not to have more than one main radio ;-) 73
Ok, no one is talking about using the split option. So, anyone can contact me and I will help you out on that feature.
You're right, I never tried it on a repeater... maybe in the future when the band opens. 73
Do you have a detailed write-up or something? Let me know. I would like to explore this radio on 10M to it's fullest capacity. rob.liguori@aol.com
I have this radio and have had mine modded for 11m too. It was done professionally, so anyone who has this radio, don't try and expand it yourself. Always get a professional to do it.
Why ? Why Roger beep offends Ham radio operator ? The radio comes with it, why not use it?
I have a theory about why president made this radio. It's very easy to modify to include 11m. However, 11m in the USA is limited to 4w. Also, many of the features wouldn't normally be found or wanted on 10m -12m, however, would be used on 11m. I speculate that this radio was really intended for the existing CB and freebanders that exist that wanted a higher pep than what was legal in the USA. This was a way to skirt around FCC, knowing that many ,if not most, would simply modify the radio. The RCI 2995dx now come factory with the E-chip. It's just my speculation. However, why else would the manufacturer include features that really aren't used and even frowned upon in amateur radio? Your thoughts?
It's true that radios like this are more popular for CB, I think the reason is because 10 meters is the closest band to CB and that's the first one CBers discovered. When the conditions in the solar cycle are at it's best, you can have QSO around the world on 10 meters and mobile installation vs the cost to operate this band is very low compares to other. Now the band are not very good but we are slowly climbing the hill for better conditions and it will be more popular among hams. 73 Pascal VA2PV
Shhh. That's a secret
Add a 1k resistor in the blank spot on the board, do a reset of cpu and magically it now includes 11 meters while selecting bands. Imagine that.
this radio reminds mo of the old 2510
C'est le nouveau TRX? Le remplaçant du Ts-990. LOL
Je m'y attendais, bien sûr que non ;-) 73 Pascal VA2PV
My freind has a 10 meter radio it’s pretty dead my Cb is allways talking I just don’t see it.
The president George was quite popular too, It sounded great on air. But for such a brilliant radio they went and fitted the worst echo board. Now some people dont like echo fullstop and thats ok. But as far as echos go this was'nt even a good one! That was the only thing that let down the radio. They should have fitted something better like a speech prosessor or something.
Great radio but mic gain on mine is crap sorry but that’s how it is.
Lol. It's funny how you're talking about the radio and making it clear that it's not a CB and that you don't talk on CB. When you referred to the buttons on this radio it was funny how you said HAM radios don't use these terms or have features like the beep "fortunately". Just made me laugh quite a bit, I copy loud and clear, you don't talk on CB anymore. 73
Well, first it's illegal to use this radio on the CB band in Canada, so I must be careful with my statement in front of the camera. I can't encourage people to modify ham gear to do CB, but we all know that many do. The reason I don't do CB it's because when I was active on this band I lived 150 miles away from my current QTH, now I don't know anyone around here on that band. As I always said, be active where your friends are. 73 Pascal VA2PV
@@Laboenligne I absolutely understand.
You thought the manual is good? I think it is terrible. There are not descriptions of what the buttons do; like NB/ANL; the manual says it is noise blanket and ANL, but offers no description of what they do or when they should be used! Same thing for a "10K" button. No clue what that is for.
ANL and NB are standard radio festures, for 10k I think it’s the VFO precision in Hz. 73
@@Laboenligne Thank you for replying, your guess is probably better than mine on the 10k button; but I certainly think the manual should describe what it is and when it should be used. NB/ANL may have been around for years; I wouldn't know, this is my first 'good' radio - that's kind of my point if you follow? Manuals should not assume too much. I also found another thing not mentioned in the manual; on the SWR meter, if SWR protection is enabled (is by default) and kicks in you will see "5UUrh1" instead of the SWR reading. Anyway, my point is simply that I think there should be, at the very least, a manual section for each menu item, and there isn't. I found the manual very disappointing in that regard.
NB is noise blanker
ANL is automatic noise blanker
10k adds +10khz to the current frequency
All common features on countless radios
Unbelievable you don't know that. 😂😂🤣
@@kevinmccool3719 So your argument is that if it is a feature common to other radios, there's no need for it to be mentioned in the manual, and that if this is your first radio, well...good luck? Why would I want to add 10Khz to the current frequency?

Har du bra koll på inställning för just den president lincoln 2 +? Jag lyckas inte riktigt med inställningarna.
Picked one up, so far it's pretty much a good paper weight. Will give it a little bit longer before it gets the heave ho!
I bought mine a few months ago because it got good reviews and very few negative reviews. I should have listened to the minority! The good things. The front panel is easy to view and to handle, menus are easy, nice heat sink, AM and FM very good on transmit and receive. The bad things. SSB is crap! Very erratic behavior of the VCO, sounds raspy at times, very wide filter with bad selectivity, AGC too fast and with strong signals overloading occurs and produces a "pumping" effect, frequency stability poor and fluctuates with temperature, internal speaker weak, and last but not least, price too high for a radio that's only good on AM and FM. I regretted buying it. Sorry PRESIDENT, you flunked this one!
the President electronics radios before was manufacture by uniden, now they ask some crap company in china to manufacture the new versions of the Lincoln,if ask me was a very bad choice, its all about money
@ACFM hd you mean Anytone at 6666 or crt ss 9900 or DYNASCAN 10M66 or Team HAM Mobilecom 1011 or Avanti Granda; Yes they are all made in china by qixiang electron science & technology co. ltd
