@@DollarRC It’s worth noting that Doculam comes in different thicknesses and also in a matte finish for photos-that might be a better bet for planes you plan to paint as it needs to be roughed with sandpaper ideally. I only ever used in on Sp400 pylon racers and one glow plane powered by a G-Mark .03, paint was an issue on the glow plane.
I used doculam to cover a VERY light, 18" micro-Owl wing. It was my first time using an iron on covering after a lifetime of stick-and-tissue building and I am SOLD! Very easy to use, forgiving, tough, and if you screw it up, just rip it off and try again because it is cheap. Good subject!
Thank you for your support. My next vid will cover graphics and things on doculam. I am looking forward to my next experiments with polyester dress lining on a few biplane projects. Please stay tuned. There is more to come.
The glider I built came with this. For a while I was flying with it till I had to replace the covering with ultracoat. The doculam was my first time covering a plane. It worked but creases were difficult to undo and once it went from opaque to clear, the adhesive properties were gone. When I recovered the aircraft in ultracoat it was far more forgiving and shrunk better. That was thus my second time covering an aircraft.
Thank you for commenting! I agree with you that there are definite pros and cons to doculam as opposed to name brand plastic coverings. I'm angling my videos on low cost alternatives and experiments I have tried with varied results with hope of helping more people enter and enjoy our hobby. I will be doing some trials with Polyester dress lining also. I'm still new to content creation so progress is so slow. I do hope you stick around and I am welcome to feedback. Again, a big thanks for commenting.
I purchased mine from Amazon.com. You may also try an office supply store. I do not recommend the packets that you find at walmart. It should be in a roll.
Been using it for years, thanks for sharing with the masses.
Any way to improve the presentation, anything I should cover better other than looking at covering compound shapes?
