FF8 using magic to only junction and never casting s spell in battle? Your telling me that's NOT the default way everyone plays this game anyway? Well shit. lol
Later in the game you sometimes cast Aura and Meltdown, instead of using the stones. But I actually forgot this was a no magic run and was like "why are you using the stones just use Aura?" Until i saw this comment
"We get the Bahamut card." A surprise tool that will help us later. Or, well, invalidate what little challenge the end game strains to achieve. Really glad to see Treatment get some use, though.
I forgot that bahamut even gave all those megalixirs because they are not super useful in a casual run. And then I was modding cards before the end game and did a double take.
I wonder if "No magic, GF, Fight, or Limit Breaks" would be interesting. Obviously, some concessions would need to be made to be able to get the ability to deal any damage at all... but could be fine as a minimalist run.
4:30 Aaaah why didn't you change the trade rule to All in Balamb Town? You could have gotten every card they played instead of just one. A lot of useful items and spells from that
I'm always hesitant to do that because I then end up with a bunch of random cards I can't mod and get screwed over by the random rule. It would be useful in this challenge runs as a time save.
I don't wanna yuck your yum but this is how everyone plays already :D The only challenging boss in the game is Omega, and you can cheese that with items anyway. I think the only way to make the game hard is to never use card mod. Maybe I'll give that a shot someday.
FF8 is my favorite broken child Almost everything can be trivialized and the game becomes more of a "meta spreadsheet knowledge check" making it an entirely different kind of game altogether... with that said I've replayed at least eight times and still have fun breaking it in new ways
Sadly no. Only actual elements can be junctioned to elem-atk. That would be very funny to be able to give your attacks a healing property. Like the healing staff in FF5 (and some others).
i think this is just how i always played ff8 i never wanted to use magic as it always felt like a waste and although i used summons when i first got them the animations just took so long that i stoped using them prity quickly.
Yeah, it's pretty close to a casual playthrough. Albeit with a little bit of healing in there. Though, honestly not much. This game was included because it serves as a good comparison to the rest of the series. Not because I expected it to be even a little bit difficult. lol.
@@Xephrost_Gaming Yer its certainly an easy game to break the difficulty curve of, though no less fun because of that. As you said it certainly provides a comparison to other games in the series.
I dont understand. Did anyone play ff8 any other way than this? The game disincentivises magic use so hard this seems the only way to play it. Keep low health and spam character swap until you get a limit
If you haven't done it might I suggest a GF only run? Only command you can use in battle is GF (and draw but can be used only to obtain GFs that you get via draw) and also no chocobo world, autop abilities are allowed too. It is an interesting run and some parts are definatly harder than others.
Hmmm. That's interesting. THat could actually create some interesting challenges. Not sure how you'd cope with Ultimecia when she just nopes out summons when you try to summon.
@@Xephrost_Gaming from experience I can say that fight is the hardest part of the run, there is a method you can use to get past certain parts of the fight with more consistency and more summons, but I won't tell you everything, all I'll say is, it is possible and auto-abilities are key. A word of warning though, to my knowledge there is no protection from the doom status other than ribbon, which is basically impossible to get without Chocobo world, so a very troublesome status to encounter but ribbon is not needed to complete it.
I thought you might ban having magic entirely to at least have some challenge without stat junctions. Of course you can still break the game with the bonus stats at level up and the Devour command.
@Xephrost_Gaming Yeah, when I did it, it became a non issue once I got Lvl up and down. The one challenge I've ever seen be difficult was no GF at all, including junctioning... that ended up being just Selphie using Slots with a chart to guarantee The End
Final fantasy 8 is such a mechanical mess 🤦 Good thing it had amazing ost, impressive FMVs and cool limit breaks and GFs. Good job with the run. Attacks+stat junction and limit breaks are too OP
I really need to think on some challenges that can manage to be difficult, but not boring. I know "no junctions" is one but then you are very limited to just attacking in combat.
You sound like you're......... Well I'll get in trouble for saying Also I didn't know this was a challenge run. Played this way since 98 or 99 or whatever

The reason to rest at an inn: there's a couple that require paying to get into the room the Timber Maniacs is in. Purely just for extra story.
The challenge of FFVIII is finding an actual challenge
FF8: Cards are fun to play and also broken.
FF9: Cards suck to play and are also useless.
"We get the Bahamut card."

When are you going to play the hit 2009 wiiware game "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a Darklord"?
I don't think I've ever actually heard of that. lol.
I loved the other game, "My Life as King"
@@Xephrost_Gamingit's kind of legit as a casual game
The Bahamut card mod is always my favorite part of breaking the endgame
Fun run! I did a gf abilities only run recently ( So your darksides, revive, recover, etc) Mad Rush was actually pretty powerful lol!
I wonder if "No magic, GF, Fight, or Limit Breaks" would be interesting. Obviously, some concessions would need to be made to be able to get the ability to deal any damage at all... but could be fine as a minimalist run.
I think the hardest no command challenge for this game would be draw.
What a friday!! WE get TWO, count em TWO FF8 videos today! Gosh 8 is able to be BROKEN.

Ah yes, the game that broke in a thousand ways
I’d love to see you do all the final fantasy 5 jobs
I am so here for this!

I absolute adore FF8 partially because of how easy it is to break the game wide open
Kinda broke the challenge being able to use magic to junction. The only 3 spells u need in the game are curaga, full life and meteor
FF8 is my favorite broken child
Almost everything can be trivialized and the game becomes more of a "meta spreadsheet knowledge check" making it an entirely different kind of game altogether... with that said I've replayed at least eight times and still have fun breaking it in new ways
Yeah, I think I'm probably in the double digits at this point. It's not a hard game, but it is fun to break.
Can you junction healing to your melee attacks? Like with cure on elem atk or whatever
Sadly no. Only actual elements can be junctioned to elem-atk. That would be very funny to be able to give your attacks a healing property. Like the healing staff in FF5 (and some others).
You can junction drain to status attack to heal when you attack.

any challenge run that allowed junctioning is not really a challenge run, still entertaining video though!
I 100% agree. lol

Agreed. I wouldn't do this as a standalone, but it makes a good comparison point to the other runs for the summary video. So, I wanted to include it.

Primal Liquid did that or started it? Pretty sure he finished it. Check his out if Xeph won't/can't do it

Yeah, that could also be an interesting idea. To make this game even remotely difficult, you really do have to ban a lot of things.
Honestly I never use magic or gf when I play the limits and physical attacks seem to be good enough for this game
So basically a normal run.
an actual challenge is no cards and it's still not that hard
Yeah, that would be a tiny bit tougher early game and then basically the same. lol
