@Aeris Gainsborough I thought I was fairly knowledgeable about this game myself but there's always new things to learn. Then again I haven't done challenge runs on this game yet myself so I'm not wholly surprised I never discovered this.
What I truly appreciate most about your solo character challenges is that you make them truly challenging. I know for a fact anyone could blow through this game with any single character if I play the way I normally do.
I died during that drill part on two play throughs as a adult. I thought I was a cut scene and I forgot about it the second time I played it…and thought it was a cut scene again 😂
It helps that enemies level based on the average party level, makes doing a solo squall run comparatively easy to some other titles in the franchise, specifically older ones.
No, it really doesn't. No level scaling means you can grind to heaven and take every single boss and enemy except the optional ones. That is not a possibility here.
Being honest Squall with just auto attacks and the multi attack junction ability can result in you casually dealing over 20k damage a turn with max stacks of the right draw magic applied to stats.
Sorry I can’t not… Squall isn’t affected by Blind. Like ever. His base accuracy is 255. He physically cannot miss a physical attack…. Even with Blind…. Just saying… That aside… I love these challenge runs, honestly they’re so fun and you’re brilliant, I legit love your videos. Been a long time since I’ve seen videos that made me laugh out loud like that 😁
Blind does have an effect on Squall, it disables his gunblade trigger, so he loses the 50% damage increase he gets from that on his normal attack. In Exchange his limit breakers get even stronger, and honestly, its an excellent trade.
@@mauricesteel4995 you're right I should've been clearer, I just meant that he won't miss his straight attack. His trigger won't... well .. trigger, but his actual attack command will always hit.
I say this on any ffviii video I watch. My favorite part of 8 is paying more attention to the dialogue from anyone other than Squall's point of view. Let me explain> There is a scene where Seifer is being sentenced to death for the attack on the president. Squall and friends are sitting around and talking about their relationship with Seifer. you got quistis talking about how he was a disruptive student but was in general a good person. Rinoa dated him and even though they are broken up she wonders if she had loved him. Zell hated the guy but he was 'one of us, y'know?' and then there's Squall. Leaning against the wall and listening to everyone talk about Seifer. Talking about how he WAS this and he WAS that. and as Squall put it 'talking about him in the past tense' as if he had already been executed. We as the player, who gets to hear all of Squall's inner monologue get to 'hear' what Squall is really feeling about the situation and can relate to Squall in some way. He starts to wonder if others will talk about HIM the same way when he dies. He WAS this he WAS that. and this truly upsets Squall. Eventually these feelings bubble to the top and he shouts out " I will not be talked about in the past tense" and runs out the room. This makes sense since we got to connect with Squall in only a way the player can. Now remove his inner monologue and look at it from everyone else's point of view. One of their crew has just been sentenced to execution and now are talking about the person he was and their relationship with him. Friend, Frenemy, Lover. When suddenly, Squall jumps up and yells " I will not be talked about in the past tense " and runs out the door. It's absolutely hilarious.
There are so many interesting views to look at with this game because of Squall’s internal monologue, it’s really cool. But it’s not like Squall’s reaction is in the spotlight when he freaks out, everyone thinks hes being a whackass too because Selphie springs up and yells “are you MAD?”. Also its worth mentioning that Rinoa never dated Seifer, she just had a crush on him. She says she doesn’t know if Seifer ever liked her back
@@LyntzbartzkyPerez I do agree that it was probably just a crush but there was a small hint they could have gone out at least once or twice. I had to search for a script for the words but right after she was questioned if he was her boyfriend she wondered if it was love and wondered how he felt then said " It was last summer... I was 16. Lots of fond memories... " Which don't necessarily hint much but in a later scene Seifer tells her " remember a year ago we... " and then gets interrupted. They could have just hung out and been good friends with a potential romance in the future or he could have known how she felt and was saying this to manipulate her in some way ( As this was once he became the sorceress' knight and this was right before one of the fights you have to have with him )
Love to see you branching out. All this recent growth is so deserved! Please just never stop being you, its refreshing to have a creator seem comfortable actually being themselves.
I enjoy these, and I get that it's more fun and a little bit of speedrunning as opposed to trying to squash the challenge as hard as possible - but I'm pretty sure you could beat the game with solo-Squall much more convincingly. I can't remember which release it was - maybe PS4 - but one of the releases of the game even had a trophy for completing the game at initial level, which makes sense; 95%+ of the player power in this game comes from the junction system, with the arguable 'easiest' way to get magic and items for it being from Triple Triad and cards. I guess it's ultimately the tight-rope of making an entertaining video - min-max too much and it's too easy and the video is boring, but don't do it at all and the challenge might barely get passed, if it does at all.

Junctioning Esuna to your status defense (which Siren gives you) actually boosts your ability to not get statused. I forget if it's 100% but that would be way less wasteful. Did you know if you go in and out of the area that raijin spawns when fight him the first time a certain amount of times he will just be there without doing the puzzle
WHAT
SERIOUSLY
@@tantacles Yeah try it
@@tantaclesI just checked the amount of times you need and it's 17
Junctioning Esuna to your status defense (which Siren gives you) actually boosts your ability to not get statused. I forget if it's 100% but that would be way less wasteful. Addendum: Okay, I didn't really think that through and hadn't played in years. I can definitely say that Quistis's tutorials have always been skippable with the cancel button, though. How considerate of devs from that era. I'd bring up the Carbuncle money exploit too, but it's not really relevant here (since Carbuncle has to be junctioned to learn the skill to turn Tents into Mega-Potions).
But I was only using one GF until literally the final battle.
Beating the game with other character than Squall would be good to see
"How did I mess that up?"
That's a question I ask myself on a daily basis. haha
It’s pronounced RYE-jin. Also, FF7 sent you into space first.
Good video.
I, too, died at the submerging jail. It gave no indication I was supposed to move.
Raijin Fujin versus protect and reflect equals they defeat themselves. Also under zombie bio/poison acts like Regen.
I just did a test run to confirm what I'm about to say.
Poison does NOT heal anyone under Zombie in FFVIII. That tactic works in FFX, though.
@@JPDarkHeart02 ha! My mistake I was confused.
@@SezmoistheWorst I was only 99% sure about being right when I read your original comment, but I wanted that 100% confirmation before "well ACTUALLY" hahaha
@@JPDarkHeart02 ikr right I knew it was eight or ten and guessed wrong lol.
Word, a challenge run I actually wanna do myself.
Most other runs seem just annoying.
Wow. You piss off alot of people off. Definitely a refreshing change of pace lol
An annoyed viewer is a happy viewer, I always say! 💅🏼💅🏼💅🏼
I subscribed once...took it away and re subscribed again it was that great. Keep it up bud. Cheers
Not every video can be for every person, but I really appreciate that you tried watching another one.
Mallow only on Sunday.
Not a single complaint. You good bro
I still got the FF8 guid in my bookshelf :)
Love the videos man just found this channel and I'm loving the rpg runs and would like to see a xenosaga challenge run if anyone has heard of that game
It woulda been awesome to gain zells board as some transport or mini game. Zell hawk. Pro boarder
I just discovered your content and I am rolling xD
good stuff tantaces, but the Hero item make you invincible to all attacks, including shockwave Pulsesar(I think you get it from fighting Seifer)
Too easy. Challenges should be challenging.
@@tantacles Well you taught me about SPR. I didn't know if you knew about the Hero Item. I love FF8 and great video
I did indeed die during that one prison eacape scene when I was a kid.
I think the only interesting solo run in ff8 would be Quistis, everyone else are just too broken
Fun fact: The dirty magazine Rinoa brought is actually a copy of Pet Pals vol.2, covered in mud
Didn’t realize she was a furry
@@tantacles Now I'm worried for Angelo......
