Alipio Garcia
Alipio T. Garcia is a professor of Physics at UP Baguio, teaching for almost 3 decades now. I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics (UPB) and went on to pursue advance degrees in Physics (MS, PhD from NIP-UPD).
In addition to Physics courses, I have been teaching GE courses in Physics and Science, Technology, and Society for almost 2 decades now.
I have several publications in semiconductor Physics and Optoelectronics, which continued to be my research interests, in addition to Cordillera materials culture of late.

Historical Evolution: Over time, technological advancements have significantly influenced societal structures and behaviors. For instance, the Industrial Revolution transformed societies from agrarian economies to industrial powerhouses, altering daily life, work, and social relations.
Mutual Influence: Society and technology have a reciprocal relationship. While technology shapes societal norms, values, and practices (e.g., the internet influencing communication), societal needs and values can also drive technological innovation (e.g., demand for renewable energy leading to advancements in green tech).
Cultural and Social Change: Technological developments often bring about cultural shifts and social changes. For example, the advent of social media has changed how people interact, form communities, and engage in public discourse.
Adaptation and Resistance: Societies may adapt to technological changes by integrating new tools into everyday life, but they might also resist or challenge certain technologies due to ethical, cultural, or practical concerns.

Fantastic professor. I took his "Science, Technology, and Society" GE last semester. If you ever take one of his classes, it's well worth it as long you pay attention to the insight he provides about all sorts of topics.

I hope counties who benefitted from IRRI would return some knowledge back to its source--the Philippines--as a gesture of goodness. It's too bad that we are not that good in rice research anymore, citing some counties have saltwater rice and we don't. What ever happened to our country? Someone can make a good docuvideo about this and get good ratings. Shout out to our next president with the hopes we can have saltwater rice. Lands are turning into real estate too quickly.
