The ice warriors are one of the best redesigns of a classic villain. I'd go as far as to say that their redesign was second only to the daleks. At least top 3 anyway.
Because both Daleks and Ice Warriors were largely kept true-to-form. The Ice Warriors just leaned to groom their body hair.
Mind you, I like the Nightmare in Silver Cyberiad Cybermen too.

Watching the 12th doctor negotiate is so satisfying! Hes really good at it and Capaldi shows that he cares and is respectful and also worried the situation will end poorly
I liked the concept of the ice warriors on Mars and the ethical dilemma the doctor was placed in. The issue I have is that the episode was rushed. If the story had a classic format it could work better. I think mark gatiss is a decent writer but like most modern writing is restricted by the format. Love the ice warriors, hate the dumb cube corpses wish we had the 'warp' kill effect there was in the classic series.

I'm going to be the odd one out and say that this is Gatiss' best script since The Unquiet Dead.

You know what would be interesting? An Ice Warrior story set at the height of the Martian Empire, and maybe we could learn more about the species, because surely the name 'Ice Warrior' is an army rank, not a species name. What are they actually called? Martians?
It would just be nice to have a modern Ice Warrior story that's received well (above mediocre anyway) in order to do justice to the fantastic design of them.

The Ice Warriors were always fantastic. Proud, but with honour. Their resurrection is one of Moffat's legacies to the show.

I got delayed XD I just watched and I must say, despite a few annoyances the episode was thoroughly enjoyable! Loved the Ice Warriors and Adored the Synth Music! :D
It was a decent episode... sure their was a little man bashing going on but still more entertaining then Hell Bent.

Am I one of the only people that actually loved this episode? Like I thought it was all round pretty awesome and the Alpha Centuri delegate cameo at the end almost had me in tears aha.
Not at all - most people liked it. But there are certain active political group campaigners who go around feigning outrage at anything and everything that impugns their rigid set of political values.

Unlikely that The Empress will be able to find any "noisy males" to be annoyed by in the coming seasons. Only gender fluid people exist in our future. The title Empress is also a gendered term, and a product of colonial oppression, so I speak on behalf of humanity, when I hereby cancel the character.

Maybe not a memorable episode but the mythology of the Ice Warriors is intriguing - the Martians of the Whoiverse....would be cool to see more of their society on Mars...and also..if they have a proper species name - "Ice Warrior" is clearly more of a rank than a race lol

I'm also fairly certain that it was the humans who gave them the name Ice Warriors so its weird that they're called that here. Especially since this episode takes plac elike a hundred years before that.
@Bigwhofan I would suggest checking out Big Finish Productions audio dramas "Red Dawn" and "Judgement of Isskar" if you want to see more of Ice Warrior society and culture.
I want more ice warrior episodes, I think this is the best episode they had since the Seeds of Death. In the Peladon stories, I didn't like them as governmental monsters.

I’m gonna have to rewatch this one! I forgot about it! A hidden gem in the middle of Series 10, maybe? This clip reminded me of the Zygon Invasion/Inversion of Series 9. The Doctor trying to make peace between two races that are tense and uneasy towards each other.

That is the problem with having so few episodes in a year. Each episode should be a masterpiece, which it is not. More episodes or better writers. I don't care which. The fan base had been dwindling, which is so sad.
I'm not well-versed in colonial era Warfare was it common practice to keep your finger on the trigger or did they also have some semblance of Trigger Discipline like today because I'm pretty sure that regular or expeditionary sealed their fate

I have a question how can the ice Warriors survive without water because Mars has water is contaminated that turns living things into water zombies. So is there a different water source that use or something else?

I've not watched the episode yet (im a bit behind) but why is it when Doctor Who travels into the future of humanity, human technology seems to have barely progressed? i mean if they're on Mars with sci-fi digging tools why are they using Muskets and Revolvers? where the hell are the laser machine guns, cannons or plasma tech? it baffles me x
Its like that episode with the Eleventh Doctor exploring those caverns filled with Weeping Angels along with a religious military, its hundreds of years into the future where humans have star-travel capability and yet the military still uses kinetic weaponry over advanced weapons.

Well, they both came out in 1967 - but the Klingons were out in March and the Ice Warriors in November. I don't think the honour codes of either were fully fleshed out back then, though.
Klingon honor is negotiable.

What's wrong with The Doctor Falls? And The Pilot, Extremis and Oxygen.
thejamsterx the doctor falls has no action, the cybermen don’t get much lines, bill once again let’s us all know she’s lesbian, the name of the episode is uncreative. Whereas world enough and time was great.
The pilot has no threats and is literally only about homosexuality,
Oxygen is too political,
And extremis was ruined by the other 2 episodes in the trilogy.. legit killed the enemy with love and friendship..
Ah, I get it. You don't understand what doctor who is. Doctor Who isn't an action show, so not sure why you were expecting that. It is political and always has been though, which you don't seem to realise.
thejamsterx, have you heard of something called "classic doctor who"? also the cybermen get so much more action in other episodes, when i meant action i meant something actually happens to intensify the show, also doctor who has never been this political, literally the most political episode of classic who was the green death, and its no where near as political as this, and it doesn't have a bias, this has a huge bias and imposes idiotic beliefs.

I always thought 12 was going to be a darker doctor like Eccelston, but that was just a flukey tease by Moffat, he ended up being closer in tune to 11 than I would have liked. Which is why I haven't watched since 12's first series.
