I was at this concert. I was 17 years old and somewhere in the audience. People were sitting around because this was an all day festival with lots of bands. Very hot also.
What a f... envy I have of you!

You are a very lucky man indeed, when you watch Jimi play that guitar you realise nobody is going to that good, you will always be second.
I sold the guitar and raced bikes instead 😂
how old are you????

He wasn’t just a musician. He was the embodiment of freedom of expression, and a master showman.

Bro he just throws that guitar around and still it be sounding flawless…when he ran his elbow down the strings I was done for man
That elbow slide was the move! I dont know why people dont talk about that one more.
Not dising him because I love his playing but he was so loud that he only had to touch the string's but he was the first to use feedback and control it. Or should I say tame it.

I was so very fortunate to see him in May, 1970.
Dude! Please tell your story!
Jealousy isn’t a powerful enough word to describe my emotions at this. You are a lucky man.
I had a pair of tickets to see Jimi in May, 1970 in St. Paul, MN as a freshman in college. It was a Sunday night and none of my friends could go. I decided to go by myself and hang onto the 2nd ticket. It's the only show I ever attended solo then or now. So incredibly glad I went - even if by myself.

Charles Manson will burn in hell where he belongs.
lol, i agree, they are so stoned and getting their minds blown its amazing lol
Where did you get that idea? reading a history book or UTUBE? Pop Festivals were completely different venues than Concerts where some actually had NO seating like Janis Joplin which I saw.. and the ones in stadiums where seating was stadium style but as I recall it.. everyone stood up the whole time even three hour festivals. I lived it. When you are 19 standing up and dancing for 6 hours straight or whatever was not problem. Anyone who actually attended "music" in those days.. well attest to that. but anyway.. have a good day.
Can we all take a moment to talk about what a beast that drummer is?

Happy Birthday to the late and great Jimi Hendrix! Born in 1942, Hendrix would have turned 74 years old today. R.I.P.
Wish he was still alive too!Probably still be going just as hard.
Mitch Mitchell is absolutely killing it on drums!
+RebelThoughts82 Give the credit were its due, and the two others rarely get their dues. I agree . Banging the shit out of the drums.
+Lou Origel Pushing the rhythm forward, and that's what rock does. Noel and Mitch were both sloppy rushers (in a good sense, believe me), and Hendrix had great solid time, and its interesting to hear the mix making the legendary J. H. Experience.
+RebelThoughts82 As a rhythm addict coming from the genre that just lives and thrives on rhythm namely funk, MITCH and NEIL are two for the records!
Mitch never gets lost amazin
+RebelThoughts82 No one played rudimental intrincate drum fills like Mitch Mitchell did at the time....At least he was a big referent of the jazz approach in rock drumming. Amaizing playing, he and Ian Paice, for example, were very unfairly overshadowed in rock history by guys like Ginger Baker and John Bonham (great player also, of course)
As a Boomer, I recall hearing “Are you Experienced,” “Fresh Cream,” and “the Doors” around the same time in 1967. Weed was just starting to become more available. I spent hours with headphones plugged into my stereo listening to them. I believe I spent most of my time with Hendrix; though I loved them all, what a time to be a teenager.😊
What an awesome piece of history, thank you :)
No matter how many of his videos I watch....he still blows my mind.
This performance is 50 years old now. He set the standard for what electric guitar is and should be. This is why we keep coming back to him 50 years later.
And we'll keep coming back to him 50 years from now, Rickey Joyce.
Electric guitar that is. But so true what you say.
It makes me weep hearing this stuff. It's that good. Check out the new Electric Ladyland - 3cd 1 blueray compilation- The sound mix of the album on cd is indescribably good. I'm not sure how they did it. FAR FAR superior to any cd I've ever heard.
Rickey Joyce
Well...there was a guy named Chuck Berry before Jimi. Chuck set the standard.
Chuck didn't set the standard he is the standard! There four king pillars that create the throne of Rock And Roll that King Jimi sat upon. These four pillars were first and foremost Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly Little Richard, and Fats Domino. Can;t forget the great Buddy Guy.
The sound of his guitar on this version of Foxy Lady has me mesmerized!

You know how some people can do things like ride a skateboard or dribble a basketball and it just looks entirely natural? Like they have a perfect mastery over the thing they're wielding? Jimi Hendrix was a natural at the guitar. There's not a single shred of doubt in any of his playing. It's the full force of mastery and confidence.

That kid Mitch Mitchell was very talented. It was always a bit of a mystery how those two "power trios" - Cream, and Hendrix Experience - managed to fill so much space. Their exceptional drummers were an important part of the answer.

Hendrix was an author of the guitar and his vision, and the book he wrote was in a language that nobody will ever be able to rewrite. We are all miracles.
When I first hear this song, I could not believe what I was hearing. Have never heard anything like it before or since. He's simply the best ever. No one will ever come close. Sure wish I could have seen him perform but I was too young.

True story-Jimi's first "guitar" was a beat-up ukulele with one string that he found in a pile of trash at the age of 14 and to think that it progressed to the greatest of all-time just blows my mind
I forget who, but one famous player started with a board, a piece of wire and 2 nails. I guess it's all in how bad You want something. Peace.
slash (also) started with a spanish acoustic with one string
I believe you are talking about Jack White. I might be wrong though. But it is just amazing watching Jimmy play... no one will ever be able to sound like he did.
First "guitar" was a broom. Left bristles everywhere.
isnt that slash? or were one string guitars just popular those days 😂😂😂
Hendrix for me is The Messiah of music. Everybody aspires to be him and yet nobody can replicate the godlike guitar skills and musical composition which seems to tap into abstract realms. There will never be another musician like him. Besides his guitar, his musical talent was full spectrum - his composition, lyrics, vocals and stage presence were out of this world. And behind that talent lies a very down to earth, sometimes withdrawn, person who people just wanted to be around and associate with.
+Dejan Popovic Well said

It truly was an experiance. As crazy and unpredictable as they were they had a thought pattern uncanny for its time. Regardless of the tempo this was one of the only rock bands that I could fall asleep to in harmony.
Legends for sure!! They took rock/blues where it'd never gone before, and blew so many minds, and sadly very under appreciated until after his death. I'd have loved to have seen where his talent would've evolved to, but he left us a great legacy and a TON of memories that for me, will always be cherished, especially after getting to meet Jimi and hang out for a while. His on stage and off stage personas, were like total opposites, and he truly loved each and every person who listened and watched him on stage, and was as down to Earth and humble as anybody, when offstage. RIP Mr.Jimi.

Amazing talent, and also Mitch Mitchell on the drums too, pretty much invented hard/heavy rock drumming and his playing also still sounds fresh today just as Jimi's does.

GutterTrash Barbie Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no senator's son, son
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the taxman comes to the door
Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes
It ain't me, it ain't me, I ain't no millionaire's son, no
It ain't me, it ain't me; I ain't no fortunate one, no
its ccr
If you get the cannon you well deserve it
Jimi is timeles... Legends Never Die
NOW BOYS, THIS IS THE GREATEST GUITAR PLAYER THAT EVER WAS... DAMN HE WAS THE BEST.
Jimi’s outfit was on point
It was 1968. Guys wore those types of clothes back then.
This was so ahead of its time
Mitch Mitchell on drums is an absolute beast
Jimmy is smooth and undeniably the best, which make his band mates also smooth as silk. They all flow as one.
Grandious
Extremely gifted, it's like he has given the guitar a voice.
Unlike any guitarist before him.
They have all gone to heaven as GOD wanted a concert and to be thrilled and boy did he he get what he wanted
Jimi had a guitar in his mother's womb. 3-31-2022
Jimi was an innovator on the guitar, but Mitch was killing the drums on a quite simple config with two floor toms, while Noel was grounding the whole with solid cool bass riffs. That's why I always enjoy this experience.
@@digitalimager4946 I see that there's a lot of people who shares this opinion about Noel. Why do you think that? As a bass player myself, I find his lines pretty neat.
This is Jimi Hendrix & The xperience. So the drummer, aka Cowboy, sounds almost better than Keith Moon. FOXY. Not much has happened since. I listen to a laddie whos name was Marius Muller. He aint as good but google him. I SHOT MY WOMAN DOOOOWN! No, Joe did. Sorry. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL TICKET FROM WOODSTOCK. Its an original copy of a ticket which was in the big purple Hendrix CD set.Get yer hands on that. Lots of his lyrics on paper in his writing. AND drawings and letters to his dad etc. What a LOSS. But his music lives on.
He got off on the drums 🎶
Can you imagine watching him live and taking it for granted and 2 years he's gone...just wow!!! Swagger like no one--he was the whole package
No one ever has, nor ever will play the guitar like hendrix.
midnight rider i agree
@@HectorRodriguez-kd5rv : Hendrix took playing the guitar to another level.
Maybe.... or maybe not. You'll see in a couple of years.
: it's all subjective but as far as i'm concerned there will never be another guitar player like hendrix.
YOU GOT THAT 100% Right, ONLY ONE JIMI HENDRIX!
I started out watching Prince videos (R.I.P.) and it progressed to Jimi. Makes sense.
+suavinevans me too
Me too. These two have influenced me most. I have bought several guitars since Prince's death. Im blown away by both. RIP Jimi and Prince.
Prince always denied that he was influenced by Jimi. He said the only thing they had in common was they were both black guitar players but if you watch Prince play, he made Jimi's guitar faces, his flourishes of the hand, body movements and even guitar sounds....I'm just sayin (and Prince was a bitchin' guitar player.
even the look Prince get seems to be Jimi's soul the moustache and they have a lot in comon black-indian roots for example ...
+LAUGH ALICIA ANN' Both made songs involving the color purple
This is way off the charts. 70 years later and still nobody can come close to Jimi. Thinking of you a lot more these days. RIP 😢😊
Prince Roger Nelson was pretty close
@@SeanSwann1 very close but Prince followed the road Jimi forged.
@@Ram-by2gz you just said what I said lol
@@SeanSwann1 I don't think so but let's not get into it any further it's not important. ✌️
@@Ram-by2gz cool!
I swear, when Jimi Hendrix plays guitar he doesn't look like he's playing guitar, he's amorphous and flowing and his hand barely touches the stringe, but the sounds he manages to create are mind blowing, this is why he's a good guitarist
I can never get over Jimi's power on the guitar. It's as if the guitar was invented solely for Hendrix
Obviously you have never heard of SRV? Vaughan could play better in his sleep! than Jimmy could play on his best day!
@@leemontoya8028 I have heard Stevie, I am a fan (as was Stevie), but Jimi was an innovator unlike anyone else up to his time. Every guitar player since has something to credit Jimi for.
@@AceLM92 True! did you know SRV used Jimmy's wah wah pedal!
@@leemontoya8028 well yeah, how else did he get that sick tone
HIS SWAG THOUGH 🕺🏾
That left-handed guitar is just a magic wand😂❤jimill
