When I have tasted super Tuscans it has always been against similar priced Bordeaux wines, and the Bordeaux always wins. Would be fun if you made the same comparison. And thanks for your lovely video!
Love a good Super Tuscan. Opened up a 2016 Castello di Albola Acciaiolo for my birthday last night. Beautiful oak, chocolate, dark cherry with dusty but smooth tannins. Lovely wine!
Two wonderful Supertuscans in the 40 dollar range…Tolaini Valdisanti and the Aria di Caiarossa…I had the 2019 vintage in both…very impressive and drinking beautifully!
Grattamaco is a superb producer !! Their rosso is great , now i am convinced to buy their main one ! What you described is what i look for in italian wines.
@@drmatthewhorkey excellent , i have a feeling it may end up in the top 10 of WS this year, if it isn’t then It will be on mine haha, did you see GD. Vajra barolo made it ? You have a good eye to spot the gems
Thanks for a very interesting video. Sassicaia is the best red wine of Italy for me! Of course I also like other very famous super Tuscan wines Ornellaia, Guado al Tasso, Grattamacco, Biserno....But only Sassicaia is number one for me!!!🍷
Old vintages of Ornellaia are my favorite (mid-90s) because of my memories of drinking it with family. I will definitely have to give some of these a try. 🍷
I recently put a few bottles of the 2021 Grattamacco in my cellar. Very likely due to being influenced by a certain Sangiovese-loving wine geek I frequently watch on UA-cam😉 I'm a little worried I might pop the first one too early. How long should I wait with these? Will the Grattamacco enter a "dumb phase" at any point? (Retailed here in Norway for 90$ @ release)
I recently had the 2020 Ornellaia side by side with the 2020 Sassicaia. Sassicaia was already developing with more hints of coffee and chocolate but I preferred the layered juicy fruit of the Ornellaia, very close though
These are all great. I can personally recommend Guado de’ Gemoli from Chiappini. Then there is Messorio - 100% merlot greatness. Had the 2013 a while back and it was stellar.
I really enjoy your videos, just recently got back into to wines, my first job was at a winery and I got the pleasure of working with the owner of the last operating winery in Los Angeles! I love your passion for wines, it really shows in videos, can you do a video on Chilean wines?
Some killer wines!!! Prefer a higher acidic and tannic structure. When we were in Italy the higher end wines wete actually more money than here(Canada) after converting the Euro. I love s great Sangiovese!, I must say the best value, or bang for the buck is in Portugal! Some amazing wine at $6 to $12 Euros!! The Chiara Condello Predappio 2020 Sangiovese is amazing!! I ran out and purchased the last three bottles the local liquor store had! $29 here. Great video again!!
Grattamacco is one of my superstar wines, up there with Flaccianello della Pieve and Percarlo. as the best of Toscana. Just you drink it way too young... 😁
Really like Saffredi, it's a sexy wine that has long aging potential.. Paleo is also excellent, I wouldn't think 100% cab franc would be this enjoyable.. Galatrona Petrolo and Messorio are superb 100% merlots that never disappoints..
The price shot up insanely.. I bought the 2015s for 40ish euro in Italy in 2019 in a supermarket, and I recently was back in Italy and it's much more expensive! Lots of curated wine shops are dropping it because you can find it in supermarkets these days.. Very very nice wine nonetheless
I would always rather you go from your left to right. Our entire lives we have watched our teachers do it that way. Why people on UA-cam started changing things is annoying

I absolutely loved the Argentiera Bolgheri superiore
Good wine indeed!
Love it too, but Villa Donoratico like better for price.
been waiting for this one!!
😮😮😮
Now we're talking. I'm going to enjoy watching this one
Enjoy!
I had a Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore about nine months ago and absolutely enjoyed it. I should add a couple more to my collection.
Great wine indeed
When I have tasted super Tuscans it has always been against similar priced Bordeaux wines, and the Bordeaux always wins. Would be fun if you made the same comparison. And thanks for your lovely video!
Stay tuned…
I had a wine from Bolgheri in this year, It was so fantastic.
They tend to be big, impressive wines for sure
@@drmatthewhorkey You are right, it really was😊.
Love the super tuscans. Caiarossa is one of the favorits. Bibi Greatz and Lots more!
There are some good ones out there

Good call!
Caiarossa is nice but then try Guidalberto. Tolaini is a nice winery, I love picconero
Grattamaco is a superb producer !!

You’ll enjoy it then!

Some Chilean wines showed up in past videos and will show up in future ones too
I have 2012 Grattamacco in my cellar, which I have enjoyed a few bottles.
Ohhhh lucky you
The Grattamacco l’Alberello is one of my favourites. Just Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc
Good wine too!
What do you think of Petrolo Galatrona?
Good wine!

Predappio is a stellar wine! I visited her last year

Two great wines
Love Bolgheri, but prices are going higher and higher. Really nice for the price is Poggio al Tesoro Il Seggio or Volpolo from Podere Sapaio.
The prices do keep climbing!
Vinum and others say Aola di Orma is 85 % Cabernet Franc and 15 % Cabernet Sauvignon. What is right?
I just talked to an employee and they confirmed this vintage is 100% Cab Franc
Argentiera never really stands out to me, however their second wine (~$20) is the greatest value for Tuscan Bdx blends to me.
Their third wine is delicious too
Different tastes...their bolgheri superiore just talked to me with its balance.
what would it ake for you to rate a wine at full score?
I haven’t scored a wine perfect in my wine career (again scores are not end all, be all)
Really like Saffredi, it's a sexy wine that has long aging potential.. Paleo is also excellent, I wouldn't think 100% cab franc would be this enjoyable.. Galatrona Petrolo and Messorio are superb 100% merlots that never disappoints..
Yes those wines are good!
How is that in the revealing the bottles're closed..??
I use Coravin (I said that in the video)
At lasttttt jejeje
😁😎
@@drmatthewhorkey have your tried the Volpaia ... Wine Spector gave them 97 points for just 40 dll
Lucky U!
😁😬
Argentiera is 90euro in sweden

Rather expensive for a bottle of wine don't you think?
Which one?
