The lead singer Phil Lynott was once asked "What is it like to be black and Irish". He replyed "Like a pint of Guinness". Best response to that question there has ever been.

Philip lynott (lie net not linnet) the lead singer grew up around the corner from my parents home. He was literally the only black kid in the area. Ireland only started to be mixed with other races in the 2000s due go immigration here. He always had swagger and was in bands from his early teens. I can thank him for my existence as my parents met at a youth club dance that Philip and his band before lizzy (skid row) played at. Dad was childhood friend. The day it was announced Phil had died was one of few times I saw dad upset. He is old school doesn't show emotion. Phil would be 70 now and for his birthday the Irish postal service issued a stamp in honour of him with a black rose. Other songs of note to look at are dancing in the moonlight, old town and the ballad Sarah he wrote for his first child. Mammy and daddy both loved your reaction.

    • @clarem5476

If I hear a radio DJ in the US mention this band they always pronounce it as Thin Lizzie, with the h sound included. If I hear anyone talking about them in Ireland, it is pronounced as Tin. I don’t think I’ve ever heard an American call them Tin Lizzie. And if I pronounce the band’s name as Tin Lizzie here in the states, they will tell me it is pronounced as Thin. It’s like the name Thomas - the h is silent I say.

I used to love Thin Lizzy, their concerts were fab and I confess to hanging out by the stage door too. They had some fab songs: Whiskey in the Jar, Jailbreak, Emerald, Sarah, Black Rose. Then Phil Lynott sang on Gary Moore's Parisian Walkways may Phil and Gary both Rest in Peace.

Thanks for the reaction, on spot! This song was popular from 1975. I remember reading that it was a tribute to those returning from the Vietnam War. I have a different memory of blasting the song in my car in a parking lot while waiting for a friend to meet me in 2011. He heard the song and said, " That has always been one of my favorites, now I know for sure that you are the girl for me". We ended up being together for many years. Classic song as it lives on!

Space Oddity, but yeah everyone refers to it as that Lisa. I think Life On Mars is a good start. I was lucky enough to see Bowie play live in Dublin in 2003, a show he released on DVD. it was absolutely magic. He did all the hits sure but it was one of his last performances and last tour. I managed somehow to get tickets ON THE PHONE! 😂
I seen someone almost pay 400€ a ticket to get in outside. Crazy. But an amazing show.
My favourite artist is Trent Reznor (nine inch nails) who just won his second Oscar for the soundtrack to Soul, and he won an Emmy for the Watchmen TV show soundtrack (Regina King is an absolute goddess!) which has an instrumental of Life on Mars. He also remade 'i cant give everything away' and Bowie was a massive fan so they toured in 95 and what would happen is NIN would start their last few songs and gradually the band would seague into Bowie so you have some recordings of Bowie singing 'Hurt'....
Trent also played the stalker in the video, remixed and and often plays live 'im afraid of Americans'...
My fave Bowie albums are Diamond Dogs, Aladin Sane, Low, and Outside...but really anything he does is magic!
