    The first rabbit you showed does in fact look like he/she could be having an onset of GI Stasis. The rabbit is sitting in a hunched position and has its neck craned out which is a sign of pain/discomfort. I am a bun mom of 4 free roaming rabbits and it's so incredibly sad seeing how they are sometimes neglected the way they are. Rabbits are a TON of work to care for, and people don't seem to do much research before getting one. It is so worth the work and money to have bunnies though in my opinion.

    I saw a very sad guinea pig ad a few weeks ago. There was two guinea pigs in a tiny barred cage, that was under 450 square inches... A guinea pig cage that was smaller than the minimum for hamsters. And the cage was outside, and visibly dirty. This was in Norway, which is a country that’s way to cold to house guinea pigs outside in. They lived on a shallow layer of soil, and there was no hay. Not even grass, or pellets. There were no toys, hides, chews or any kinds of enrichment. The only other things in the cage was a pile of acorns/oaknuts. I don’t know if they are toxic for guinea pigs, but they are deadly to horses, so I doubt they’re good. I really hope they got to a good home.

She was three years old when she was spayed and had never had any major issues before. Within a month of spaying she was already showing negative signs. I don’t have a problem if you spay/neuter your pets, but I personally will never spay or neuter another one of my dogs unless they absolutely require it for health reasons. As long as the owners are responsible and make sure there is no breeding happening, I don’t see any issues with keeping your pets intact.

      Not only that, it also increases the chances of hip dysphasia, diabetes, and obesity, just to name a few things. I advise you to do a little more research on the benefits of keeping your dog intact before bashing others for choosing not to spay or neuter.

Have been waiting a year and preparing for a year and still have yet to look at dogs/puppies. That's the responsible thing to do. I'm not just gonna go and get a dog because *I* need a service dog. For the rabbit care advice, I definitely think you’re accurate. One thing I would’ve included, is that both of these cages are way too small. Generally, people recommend the length of their body times two for the length and width of the cage, and for the height to be high enough for them to fully stretch and stand without hitting the ceiling. However, I always recommend a large, four by four, ex-pen at the very least. In whatever cage you have for your rabbit, they need at the very least, four hours of playtime outside the cage. I personally think that all rabbits should get a room to themselves, or free roam. Free roaming is by far the best and most beneficial housing situation for a rabbit. It helps your relationship with your rabbit, as well as the rabbit having much more space than many others.
    Fixing is also VERY IMPORTANT. It is absolutely necessary for bonding, health, and its relationship with every thing it meets. The adoption fee is the money you paid to fix the rabbit. It is incredibly dangerous to sell, or rehome, rabbits anywhere but an actual rescue. It’s just so dangerous. Even actual rescues get those people who just want a decoration, or a play toy for children, or just a throw away pet. Anyone who’s done research on rabbit adoption and rescue knows to adoption from a (only) rabbit rescue.
    If you want to know more about rabbit care, I suggest looking up 101Rabbits and Lennon The Bunny, they have GREAT information, and some helpful tips. I do think you have enough knowledge to recognize bad care though, but I think more research could help with more tips for the people in the ads and people outside of them.

    I STRONGLY agree with this. I have a personal story on this subject, actually.
    While I was staying at my mother's boyfriend's house, his friends dog was still there after the friend and ex wife (ex wife to mother's boyfriend; wife to boyfriend's friend) left.
    When I met Beatrice (the dog), she was in extreme poor care. She was tied up to the tree on a small rope, her nails were ridiculously long, and my hand would be caked in dirt after one small stroke. She is 4 years old and a mother of 4 litters. I think the original owners were running a puppy mill. We were infuriated when we found out about this, since you can go get your dog spayed/neutered very cheap, depending on where you go.
    My mother told me to consider taking her in, and my dad agreed.
    She is now doing amazing in our care. I saw how much she thrived when we got her spayed. I'm so glad we took her in, because it also turned out she had Heartworms. Thankfully, she was in a very early stage of it.
    Sometime in the next 3 months, she should be Heartworm free :).

    Hi Munchie (and/or everyone else). I know this isn’t related to this video but it’s just something that’s been making me worry about it a lot lately. So school just started for me and my science this year is living environment. Basically biology with a bit of environmental science sprinkled in. These first few days we’ve been going over the safety procedures and I realized that we’re going to be handling live animals in some of our experiments. I already felt like this was something that I didn’t wanna do but they also played a video about these safety procedures. At one point they showed 3 mice or rats in a little carrier cage type of cage and they were all looking at the lid as if they wanted to get out of the cage. I don’t want to do the experiments with living animals but by my state law I have to or else I won’t be able to pass the class. I just think it’s wrong that we’re doing this to animals. 🐭💙💖

    • @tornadoley
      @tornadoley 5 років тому

      Hackie Puffs I’m really sorry you have to do that. I’m vegan so doing any science lab assignments with animals makes me really uncomfortable too. I would talk to the teacher and see if they’ll let you do an alternative assignment instead. You could say it’s for religious reasons and they would likely just make you do something else for the points. I would also consider making a petition or writing a letter to the district or whoever is forcing teachers to do experiments with live animals so they can end this requirement

      I think the point here is that even if your buns didn't have bacterial infections, avoiding abrasive surfaces, unclean areas and moisture are the reasons for bacterial infections to pop up in the first place. Due to how many breeders there are of rabbits around my area, i've seen breeders who do not keep their areas clean so there is a big stigma of conditions of these rabbits and the wire flooring is seen in cages that do not provide room to roam and hop and are usually up high above the ground. Bumblefoot i see more often with hamsters than rabbits and i'm sure that's what most of my fans usually see is me mention this about them, but the goal is to create the best environment for a companion animal that meets their needs and that's why i feel like others, that wire flooring or mesh flooring needs to go away and many are advocating for change. Just because it's been going on for many decades, doesn't mean it's right. We can say that about a lot of our lifes problems that use to be seen as normal to society. I don't wanna get political but i think you know what i'm getting at. But wire is not needed for buns who frolic and hop and don't live above ground in the air on wire cages.

    10:51 I am a rabbit owner and I can verify this is in-propper care. First, rabbit's shouldn't be caged at all but if they are it has to be so much bigger than this. Pellets (the rabbit's only food option) are luke junk food for rabbit's and it's really bad. They NEEED hay, as you stated. They have very weak guts and use hay to keep there entire system running and helps force out poop. And another very important part of a bunnys diet is the veggies. They NEED something luke lettuce daily. Along with an ocaisial bannana or something. The best home you can put a rabbit in is by potty training then free roaming your rabbit in a room and/or the house. 💗

    The bun diet you mentioned is perfect for them! Buns shouldn't be kept in cages at all in my opinion, but an indoor pen/room that is bunny proofed is a very good way to keep them in one place and so they dont chew/poop on or in your stuff. My two bunnies have a shared area currently of about 10 sq feet but am going to expand withing the month as we are moving. Each bun should have about 4 sq feet minimum and lots of toys and/or a friend as they're social animals. That first bunny looked just extremely sad as the space was only about twice as big as the litterbox should be and looked to be overweight from a pellet only diet. I couldn't see its coat and I dont know its breed and what they should look like but other than the weight he looked okay. Just so so sad :(

    When I got my mouse he frequently sneezed, but I never knew why because he had paper bedding, ventilation was fine, his nose was clear and things weren't dusty that I could see. The only thing that made me think twice about it was his food. Even when I got rid of the bedding and cleaned the cage he still sneezed, so I started to think his food was causing his sneezing. So once I switched over to Sunburst from Kaytee his sneezing stopped. But that rabbit doesn't look like it's the healthiest it could be.

  • @LunarStorm94
    @LunarStorm94 5 років тому +1

    So rabbit. Way too small a cage, unless it has a 'play pen' and an open door which I doubt they have. I have not and will never use paper bedding because they do tend to chew on it when they are stressed. Hay is required, preferably Timothy or Alfalfa. Hay pellets can be offered as well, but they need just straight hay for several reasons (Diet, digestion, Teeth, ect). Is is also recommended feeding fresh veggies daily, which can be supplemented with pellets to make sure they get all their nutrients. Several different types of chews to help enrich and keep teeth trimmed. Daily handling and playing when it is a solitary rabbit as they are rather social. You can get a custom made rabbit wheel (Most brands don't make them big enough) but they normally don't like them so you need a pen or run for them to get their exercise. Litter trays both in the cage and in the pen or run cleaned daily. And regular nail trimming as like their teeth, their nails never stop growing and in captivity they don't get the chance to dig like in the wild which would naturally trim their nails.
    And that rabbit is rather far from healthy. Sitting like that and still able to make out the body from the legs means it is either underweight, or the coat is much thinner than it should be or both. Which ties into poor diet. Looking around the edge of the eye, you can see where it is a crusty pink, which is a sign of an infection normally caused by a poorly maintained cage or improper bedding causing irritation. As for the size, it looks like a mutt so there is no telling if it's normal or not without seeing the parents. My guess is it's a few months old and undersized from poor diet.

Nobody wanted him because he is a standard agouti boy, but he is the cuddliest of all of my rats. Hamster care channels including this one, educated me about hamies and I feel so great knowing I saved this baby boys life, because I initially was going to buy a hamster instead of adopting.Sadly I did do my research on the internet to see those who do search and found so many misleading information and it sucks that pet stores or just pet companies are making lots of products that are so horrible for pets including hamsters... but I’m so thankful that there’s people like you and this community. Far too often i see ads of people looking for emotional support animals, asking for people to just give them pets for "emotional support" reasons even though they have no money. Never get a pet you cant care for just to make you feel good. But if you care for it properly like you said, I see no problem. Just remember that if you're talking about emotional support animals, they don't have the same rights as actual support animals. Meaning they can't come into stores with you and such.

    • @MunchiesPlace
      @MunchiesPlace  5 років тому +4

      Emotional support animals are great imo. They're not seen by the ADA as being service animals and i think that's what is a huge debate right now due to the increase numbers of people abusing their emotional support animals in public places that do not allow them and claiming they're service animals. But so long as you understand the responsibility of an ESA and get your ESA registered, they can provide support for yourself that is beneficial to you. Service animals can also help with roles of Anxiety but are trained to preform a task to help cope with that.
