    its actually surprisingly easy theres another way to do it if u have a pencil and eraser well thats how'd i learnt it discovered it by accident. in school we were to make a maze the teacher couldn't solve in 1 minute made it 3D. just have it over lap and then erased the extra lines. this gave me an idea maybe i should put an infinite loop somehow and try to disguise it somewhere to look finite.

Also, you get into every detail of explaining how to draw the knot, instead of just glancing over minor details like other videos do. Seriously, just people like you make me glad to be human.

    Well no, they are different ethnic groups, Celts used to control quite a lot of Europe but the remaining Celtic nations are now just Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Mann, Cornwall and Brittany.
    Vikings were Germanic Scandinavians from Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
    The Vikings did hold Dublin, some of northern Scotland and the isles for a time and the Celtic and Viking cultures mixed there.

    Hi popparoc46,
    I love this design and other similar especially in leather. I know it sounds stupid, and probably is, but with any design like this, I can get half way through, or even near the end and I will put a line going the wrong way so I have to start again! Short term memory loss is the reason, I simply forget what I am doing.

    At first, it was a difficult concept to grasp, but eventually it all came together. I have become slightly obsessed with these, and my trig professor caught me drawing these little wonders. I have been trying to determine how to figure the number of strands in a design based on the number of "grids" that are laid out prior to the filling in of the lines. Do you have any secrets to predetermine the strand count before drawing. I have found out that all square patterns have the same number of str

    continued- from there you could mark the intersection in the middle of every square, it's slightly confusing without this, and I'm sure you could figure it out from there. You should also keep in mind that the strips will be a little distorted, wider on the outside than on the inside.
    The grid and the circle, by the way, could be drawn with pencil, so they will be erasable.
    I hope with helps you.

  • @littlepix101
    @littlepix101 11 років тому

    I did in fact figure out the round one, (My mom asked me to recreate this on a plate she made). To make a round band shape (couldn't figure out the center), you mark the middle of your circle, and draw 4-5 (or how many row you want +1) concentric circles, and then using a protractor, (or a angle-a-tron, if you ever watched Vihart),mark dots evenly spread apart on the circle. Then to connect every dot to the center of the circle, an viola! you have the grid.

    Since I fist watched this months ago, I can;t seem to stop drawing these. I have maths, physics and chemistry lessons (21 a week in total- I'm masochistic, obviously), and an always using graphing paper.
    Did you ever try using and extra half cm (one cube) to one of the sides. This gives you a strip that has ends. I love just following one strip as I draw them (start on an edge, and then leave blank spaces when it's "under").
    I might need to find a new hobby... lol

  • @xmentosx
    @xmentosx 12 років тому

    Basically, the thing you did where you eliminated the dots by making a bold outline is something that a lot of comic artists do to separate objects from one another. All details within an object have a smaller outline. So you might not have noticed it but you actually made the entire knot into a whole by strengthening the outline. Just thought I'd mention it, it makes for one really handsome knot.

  • @holohulolo
    @holohulolo 14 років тому

    @theprototype424 It doesn't have to be lined or grid paper. I did it on a blank paper, just estimate the distance, it's not perfect but it can be quite neat still.
    By the way, thanks for the video, I wanted to do this stuff a long time, I just thought it is going to be too complicated that I never even started, I followed you in the video, and the dots really made it a lot simpler. Thanks.

  • @connectingcolors
    @connectingcolors 11 років тому

    I just made my first knot today following the video, I took it slow, and did it first in light pencil, (which might be cheating) then filled it in with India Ink, and I love the way it turned out. I don't really understand what the "center dots" were for on this knot, but I'm just learning....I'm sure they will make more sense when I start doing more intricate knots.

  • @littlepix101
    @littlepix101 11 років тому

    Now that I read through what I just wrote, I realized it wasn't very clear, sadly. the concentric circle should be evenly spaced (say 4 cm, 5 cm, 6 and so on)... and also the angle between the dots, or well, the radiuses, if you used a protractor instead of eyeballing it, should be rather small for this to look nice.

  • @murigius1
    @murigius1 11 років тому

    I'm always amazed at folks like breann who'd rather direct her negative comments outward rather than where they belong. This is one of the more useful tutorials on this knot I've seen. Your presentation couldn't have been clearer, though maybe a bit slower-- but then as you intimated, you'd be boring your audience. Bravo.

  • @soulcade

    Very nice, thank you. I am planning to carve a celtic knot door and was wondering if this can also be applied to a longer strand? I assume you just make all the dots and so it would become something like 4 x 15 or so. Then just turn them in when they hit the walls. So does it have to be 4x6 or can it be modified? Thanks

  • @littlepix101

    Nope, nothing wrong- you should keep playing around with the ratio of length to width- apparently if you do 6 dots across and 3 dots vertically (I counted the dots on the edges of the rectangle in this video :) ) 6 by 4 will give you 2 strands. Hope this helps

    You make it look so easy. I'm not an artist, but I've got to try this.

    Just a question : If i want to make a bigger size of this, do i increase the number of dots.. say 10 x 8 or increase the distance between two consecutive dots ?

    thanks this is very impressive it must take a lot of practice to make it that smooth. I made one quick just to try it out and it was very satisfying. thanks for making this video.

    Interesting technique. I make them using a different (more flexible?) method, but it's fun to watch how other people do this stuff.
