I never knew that MGS3 had an overhead camera before Subsistance. Regardless, I don't think you "cheated" for basing your opinion off of an expanded rerelease. Subsistance was made to make a mastetpiece even greater, and it did just that. Great vid, Caddy!
Caddy, please make a video about MGS4. As a huge freaking fan of the series myself, I'd really like to see what exactly you think about it. I don't care if it's going to be four hours long, that would be even better.
Oh my god, did I choose the wrong time to try and play this. I was at the boss battle with the end, aka the best boss battle of all time, and I had to go to my friends house for thanksgiving and I was so terrified that he had died of old age, but thankfully, he didn't.
DID YA KNOW!? MGS3 was supposed to be dubbed completely in Russian during the initial planning process. Akio Otsuka, the Japanese VA for Snake, even said that he'd be perfectly willing to phonetically memorize his lines in Russian for the game. However, the rest of the cast wouldn't do this, so the idea was scrapped. On another note, the English VA for EVA is sill unknown.
MGS2 gave me such a mind fuck, and Kojima left us for the past? I have to say that I'm excited, but I wanna know more about the future of the MGS universe.
This is probably literally my favorite video on UA-cam ever. The humor, the explanation, the game at hand and it's the video series that got my really interested into the MGS franchise :D
I have the same thing that you do with the favorites. I go: 3. No 1...actually...3...NO what am I saying the story of 1...what about 2...maybe 2...but 3! Same goes for 4, PW, etc. I discovered MGS late, but love it so very much now. Too great a game series to ever pass up. Phantom Pain and Ground Zeros....soon...
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL I STILL IN A DRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEM SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKE EEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Still waiting for that Metal Gear Solid 4 review Caddy...I'll sit here....and wait forever.....until you do so....but while I wait...I have a box of orphan puppies that I will slowly feed to the wood chipper...for every day there is no MGS4 video....these orphan puppies that are sick and need to go to college will die......dang it...it didn't work.....well still waiting for that that MGS4 review.....
The end of the game breaks me as a human being every time! I feel empty for like 3 days and I must have completed it about 6-7 times. Plus the theme gives me the most nostalgia of anything ever. Definitely my favourite MGS of all time, maybe even favourite game of all time.
Caddy, you're awesome. I love the fact that I'm just now watching this video series, and I see you replying to comments despite the fact that this video is 5 months old.
I think the boss battles in MGS3 are really neat for being such cartoonish personalities and appearing at random intervals. It made going through the game such a surprise and each boss is really well done, making them memorable enough for their unique qualities alone.
Pretty sure Kojima took Caddy's comment about being a genius for making a good game primarily consisting of walking, said, "hold my beer," and proceeded to slowly walk from the Konami headquarters all the way to Sony to make death stranding
Subsistence, that movable camera was so useful. For example, in Rassvet, during Virtuous Mission, get on top of the building and spin the camera around to see if any guards are nearby.
Never played a MGS game and after watching Caddy playing through them, I feel I must play them. I avoided them at first because I was told that their plot was crazily deep had hard to keep up with but Caddy seems to really get it across. Thanks Caddicarus :)
I am not sure if I am the only one, but I don't think MGS3 aged all THAT well. I am playing it now and just the lack of some basic actions like crouch walking seem odd, and performing the CQC actions is rather tricky on its own right. The game is NOT BAD. In fact, I love it. But it I don't think it looks like a game that was made recently, it definitely screams "2004".
Graphic and control-wise, I think you may be right. But damn, I still think MGS3 would be ahead of its time even if it were released today. The stamina mechanic, the healing system, the camouflage, the interaction with the environment, and mainly, the A.I. and enemy behavior in general. Fuck, when I blew up a food deposit and came back to that area later, I saw all soldiers complaining about how hungry they were. I proceded to throw some rotten fish and a soldier ate it and started being sick. What an awesome game.
Caddy, I would be fascinated to hear your in-depth thoughts on Metal Gear Solid 4 and maybe even Peace Walker, too. You basically stated in this video that making an MGS4 video would be crazy because it would be too long, but I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say I'd be totally cool with it. I'd honestly be fine with you taking a few weeks off to make some kind of long opinionated video about the game. You're clearly very passionate about the series while at the same time not being blinded to its flaws, which I appreciate.
Awesome retrospective, I love caddys videos, they're informative, well made and very entertaining, caddicarus has definetly become one of my fav UA-cam channels!! I'm a massive MGS fan and MGS 3 may be my fav game in the series, and one of my favourite games ever, its also given me one of my most memorable gaming moments. I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but during the boss fight with the end, the first time I tried to defeat him, I went to the storage hut in the first area and got the sniper rifle, then I found a high sniping spot and waited there for the end to appear for at least an hour, then I hear this rasping, heavy breathing, I unequip the sniper rifle, and the end is right fucking behind me!! I didn't even hear him, the bastard snuck up on me, held me up, then shot me, knocked me out and took me all the way back to granins lab!! One of my most memorable gaming moments because it scared the shit out of me, made me realise that the end was not a normal boss and opened my mind to the possibility that gaming enemies and bosses could completely change their ai patter and do something completely unexpected.
I got the Legacy Edition like a month ago, first time with the series, I'm in the third one right now, It has become my favorite series of all time, leaving Zelda out of this.
Wow, this was a really great run caddy. The concept of the retrospectives are just brilliant. That's why I would really like to see a retrospective on the first three sly games. I don't have to tell you that they are playstation 2 classics, and personally one of my favourite trilogies in gaming. Your full opinion on these games would be really fun to hear.
Another nice detail was being able to activate a first person view during the cutscenes, seeing what snake was seeing..... especially the first time you meet Eve. That scene gave Snake even more personality, just knowing that he was watching her wonderful personality *perv face*
Jhonathan Dark honestly.... I loved it xD I recommendet it to my friends and they all loved it aswell and kept talking about how great it was months after they played it.
"all of the other games made in 2004" huh... "probably the best from that year" huh... how about fucking Half-Life 2??? You've even been part of a Half-Life 2 mod!
HL2 is a mind-blowing, innovative, near-perfect piece of art. MGS3 makes it look like the kind of thing you'd doodle on the cover of your notebooks in grade school.
Half-Life 2 is an incredible experience but MGS3 makes me tear up. All Half-Life 2 accomplishes at the end is frustrating me because I know I can play the episodes but they'll just lead to nothing. MGS3 at least felt like a complete experience. But yeah Half-Life 2's still amazing.
Your videos are great Caddy!! You got me into a new game series so THANKS! if you need ideas for your retrospectives, try the first 3 resident evil games!
Lol I not only watched this intro every time I started up the game, but for MGS1 and 2 as well, there so cool and have such awesome music that I WANT to watch them every time.
You forgot to mention two things, climbing up the ladder and snake eater playing, also the fact in a lot of the cutscenes you can press a button to see something special, like a secret codec channel, or see what snake is looking at, etc...
Hey Caddy I'm a big fan of your videos and this one in particular. As metal gear solid 3 is my favorite game of all time. This video brought me back to when I first played it and the incredible story that goes with it. You have honestly touched my heart. Really you have. This is without a doubt my favorite video from you. But let me get to the point. If you could please respond because I so desperately need an answer. What is the song that plays around 15:08? It is incredible. Anyways. Please continue to make videos and continue to brighten mine and so many others day's. I've been with you since your evil dead review and I've loved your videos since. Thank you
Great job with this stuff, think I need to start an european extreme/no alarms/no kills (where it's possible) marathon on the series once again. Keep on rocking with the videos.
I got a feeling "leitmotif" is like Caddy's version of that one thing we remember from school and always try n bring up in conversation to make ppl think we're smart
Dude, I knew how this game played out YEARS ago, before i actually had the chance to beat it myself. So your summary of the boss (the whole game) was on point. Your question of are you the only person who's got by the ending??? Not even close. I finally beat it tonight after all these years and almost shed a couple thug tears. That shit got waaaaaaay too real! Good shit Caddy, good shit!
mgs2 was a wake up call to look at the world around me! its incredible how much other what kojima talked about in mgs2's story actually has real world connection! its great!! a game can spawn a revolution of thought in people!
I loved hunting and gathering everything. And the fact that you could throw poisonous snakes at enemies is Epic! I might have to play through this again. Also, holy shit that ladder was loooooong!
After watching these three videos I'm pretty convinced that you and me are the same person, especially after the competition of which is the best game. All opinions are the same. Keep up the good work!
First time fighting The End I had no idea why my stamina kept going down and down and down and down... Press start and find I'm pumped full of 40 tranquilizer darts. Note to self to remove those.
Snake Eater was the first Metal Gear I ever properly played. I spotted it in Woolworths when I was in the Town, and remembered I played a Demo for MGS2 from one of those disks you got from the Gamer mags. I was depressed for three days, after the Ending. It was great.
I just completed MGS3: Subsistence in the HD Collection for the first time, and it's not only the best MGS I've played so far, but it has to be one of the best games I've ever played. There's tremendous attention to detail EVERYWHERE. Everything from little gameplay nuances (Snakes eyes DILATED in the cave?! "Genius, my friends!!") to the intriguing and very touching story made for a thoroughly engrossing experience. I have nothing left to ask for from Solid 3. It exceeded my already high expectations. I'll be looking for a copy of MGS4 very soon, and if the reason for MGS4 being so controversial is because it had MGS3 to live up to, I can see why.
***** Fyi, you might want to consider playing MGS1 and 2 first. MGS3 may be seperate enough in the overt from those to be good unto itself. However, the story across the games was constructed to reveal things as the games were released. You'd appreciate the littler things a lot more if you played those first. Imagine you watched the Star Wars prequel trilogy before the original trilogy, and when you got to the iconic moment when Darth Vader told Luke Skywalker that he is Luke's father. this was redundant information to you, instead of a shocking twist. 'Just a heads up.
I cast my vote for 3. I first played the 3ds edition, it was my first ever MGS game. I then bought the HD collection, played a very small amount of PW, and replayed 3. NEver touched two YET, but I might. I have one, the original version, on my ps3, as a download, but I never finished it. If the recently proposed MGS1 HD reboot comes through, I might play it, I'm pretty sure i'll get 5. It has a bit of a 3-ish feel with the open world bit.
never seen your vid's before these three. i really enjoyed them. a little fun fact (did not know if you said it in the vid i just paused it when you made the "snake eater referance"). the goat that you can kill and eat in the game, it's name translates to snake eater. thanks for the upload

I never knew that MGS3 had an overhead camera before Subsistance. Regardless, I don't think you "cheated" for basing your opinion off of an expanded rerelease. Subsistance was made to make a mastetpiece even greater, and it did just that. Great vid, Caddy!
more like making the game playable
Caddy, please make a video about MGS4. As a huge freaking fan of the series myself, I'd really like to see what exactly you think about it. I don't care if it's going to be four hours long, that would be even better.

Oh my god, did I choose the wrong time to try and play this. I was at the boss battle with the end, aka the best boss battle of all time, and I had to go to my friends house for thanksgiving and I was so terrified that he had died of old age, but thankfully, he didn't.

***** Exactly! I thought nobody else had thought of this, or that I was just crazy.
Oliver Jia Hah, I wish there was a Russian dub in the game, even if it was with different voice actors.
Just finished my first ever playthrough of mgs2, and im 2 hours into my first playthrough of mgs3. Really loving the series
MGS2 gave me such a mind fuck, and Kojima left us for the past? I have to say that I'm excited, but I wanna know more about the future of the MGS universe.
You only watched the intro on the game? I got that thing AND the music on my MP3 Player! THAT SHITE IS FRICKIN AWESOME!!!!
This is probably literally my favorite video on UA-cam ever. The humor, the explanation, the game at hand and it's the video series that got my really interested into the MGS franchise :D
This is easily my favourite game ever :D
Mine too :D

The end of the game breaks me as a human being every time!
I feel empty for like 3 days and I must have completed it about 6-7 times.
Plus the theme gives me the most nostalgia of anything ever.
Definitely my favourite MGS of all time, maybe even favourite game of all time.
Please do mgs 4
The most memorable opening song of any video game I can think of. No other video game has made me want to listen to it every time it has come on.
Box is love. Box is life
Caddy, you're awesome. I love the fact that I'm just now watching this video series, and I see you replying to comments despite the fact that this video is 5 months old.
Dude...PLEASE make your review for MGS4.
For example, in Rassvet, during Virtuous Mission, get on top of the building and spin the camera around to see if any guards are nearby.
how about an Uncharted retrospective?
You got it!
That ending gets tears out of me every time...sniff...every time.
Can't wait till you do videos on 4 and 5(when it's fully released) XD
Never played a MGS game and after watching Caddy playing through them, I feel I must play them. I avoided them at first because I was told that their plot was crazily deep had hard to keep up with but Caddy seems to really get it across. Thanks Caddicarus :)
I am not sure if I am the only one, but I don't think MGS3 aged all THAT well. Fuck, when I blew up a food deposit and came back to that area later, I saw all soldiers complaining about how hungry they were. I proceded to throw some rotten fish and a soldier ate it and started being sick.
What an awesome game.
I agree that number 4 is the best - but I'm only doing the first 3! So out of the first 3, I'd say 3 is the best.
How about now?
13:14 "Burn, baby!!"
''dance water dance'' kingdom hearts 2 much?
Raiden is voiced by Axel/Lea.
AwesomeArceus277 Quinton Flynn is pretty fucking great.

*Clicks on a Metal Gear Solid Retrospective*
*Bitches about footage being shown*
I don't even
7:59...You scared me, I demand a apology.
no
Caddy, I would be fascinated to hear your in-depth thoughts on Metal Gear Solid 4 and maybe even Peace Walker, too.
MAN I LOVE THIS: FUN FACT... DID YOU KNOW :DDDDDDD
I love how the environment helps you in different situations.
I FOCKING LOVE THAT!
So where's part 4?
He only looks at the first three games of each series
*pattern
I'm one of those who think that Metal Gear Solid 3 is the best in the Metal Gear Series.
First time I played this game, I was bawling at the end. I still tear up when I go an play through again.
MGS4!
If it hadn't been for these Metal Gear Solid retrospectives, I never would have gotten interested in starting the series. Thank you!
Did anyone ever notice all the toy frogs everywhere
yeah me
Another nice detail was being able to activate a first person view during the cutscenes, seeing what snake was seeing..... especially the first time you meet Eve. That scene gave Snake even more personality, just knowing that he was watching her wonderful personality *perv face*
Do MGS4 or I'll make sure you... Have a hard life...
Such a lust for a review...WHOOOOOOOOO!?
9 years I’ve gone old
Hi! I was just playing metal gear rising, and I remember, CADDYS RETROSPECTIVESSSSSSSS. My point being, can you play Metal Gear Rising Revegance?
No caddy will not Metal Gear Rising Revengence was a god awful excuse for a metal gear title
Jhonathan Dark Don't even start.
Jhonathan Dark Its Metal Gear Rising Not Metal Gear Solid so please dont hate on it and I LOVE Metal Gear Rising
Jhonathan Dark honestly.... I loved it xD I recommendet it to my friends and they all loved it aswell and kept talking about how great it was months after they played it.
Simon Sch. GREAT and satisfying cutting the enemies :D
If you don't like stealth, stay away. Haha
You piece of rusty cooper, where is the damn MGS4 review, my favorite, you want to know why? Nostalgic references and the last segment of chapter 3.
MGS4 is the cringiest of them all. Glad Caddy's skipping a review.
@@thelegendofstonecoldstevea3205 even if it's cringey, then it would be cool to see an opinion on it. That's why people like to see opinions on stuff.
4 years later and you're still keeping us waiting for mgs4.
I fucking luv that. XD
you are awesome, thanks for this brilliant series. mgs truly is one of the best game series ever made. subscribed!
"all of the other games made in 2004" huh... "probably the best from that year" huh... how about fucking Half-Life 2??? You've even been part of a Half-Life 2 mod!
MGS 3 faaar better (Only liked HF 1 anyway, so my opinion doesn't truly count).
PLEASE DO A PART 4! I don't mind watching 4 hours of a video about MGS 4 like these 3 you've already made, they're amazing!
"Its probably the best game from 2004"
3 words: Half Life 2
yes yes yes yes
Joseph Iles I just think that the hl2 physics engine was just so revolutionary.
Maxjk0 Alright, I'll give you that one. XD
Two words and a number
Your videos are great Caddy!! You got me into a new game series so THANKS! if you need ideas for your retrospectives, try the first 3 resident evil games!
Still waiting on that video for part 4 ....
My nostalgia core has been well tickled Sir Caddy. Great Retrospective!
Hey Caddy I'm a big fan of your videos and this one in particular. As metal gear solid 3 is my favorite game of all time. This video brought me back to when I first played it and the incredible story that goes with it. You have honestly touched my heart. Really you have. It is incredible. Anyways. Please continue to make videos and continue to brighten mine and so many others day's. I've been with you since your evil dead review and I've loved your videos since. Thank you
I cried at the end of snake eater. I love the long ladder with the song too.
You're not the only one who watches that intro caddy it's fucking amazing and I completely agree with you.
I liked how you could blow up The End the first time you see him. That was great.
Honestly this game will hold a place deep in my collection. One of the best games ever.
One of the few games to make me cry
This was the best game i played on the PS2.. I still have fond memories of it! MGS4 was a nice compliment to the series.. Nice video.
mgs2 was a wake up call to look at the world around me! its incredible how much other what kojima talked about in mgs2's story actually has real world connection! its great!! a game can spawn a revolution of thought in people!
I loved hunting and gathering everything. And the fact that you could throw poisonous snakes at enemies is Epic! I might have to play through this again. Also, holy shit that ladder was loooooong!
I still would love to see a video about MGS 4. Maybe one or two big videos about the Metal Gear games would be great!
Well, you know what they say - the trio is very solid.
caddy you're not the only one to see the opening everytime i do it too and i sing the song too
After watching these three videos I'm pretty convinced that you and me are the same person, especially after the competition of which is the best game. All opinions are the same. Keep up the good work!
First time fighting The End I had no idea why my stamina kept going down and down and down and down... Press start and find I'm pumped full of 40 tranquilizer darts. Note to self to remove those.
Great series! Loved these videos!
Snake Eater was the first Metal Gear I ever properly played. I spotted it in Woolworths when I was in the Town, and remembered I played a Demo for MGS2 from one of those disks you got from the Gamer mags.

I am SO happy you brought up the fact that Big Boss is a much more relatable character than Solid.
Metal gear solid was a remake of one with better graphics. It's on a GameCube so you need a wii our a GameCube. :)
I mean metal gear solid twin snake :p
never seen your vid's before these three. i really enjoyed them. a little fun fact (did not know if you said it in the vid i just paused it when you made the "snake eater referance"). the goat that you can kill and eat in the game, it's name translates to snake eater. thanks for the upload
