Our property tax went up16.2% this year. That’s a much more accurate indicator of where real inflation is.
Ours did not go up that much, but still an increase. In the town near us they saw taxes increase as much as 50% for some places. People will be losing their homes.

They say inflation is 3%. But everything is 20% more expensive. I don’t know about you but if everything is 20% more expensive then that’s 20% inflation.

I'm not sure where your living to only have 20% inflation? I'm in Wisconsin. Soda has tripled, Toilet paper 3x meat 4x, cigarettes 3x, insurance, electric gas clothes tool's are all up 50 percent. I would say Inflation is at 200%to 300% when things double and triple that adds 100% so I want to know where you live cause I want cheeper prices!!!!

I collected loads of glass jars, wine bottles, quart canning jars.. Everything is full of rice, noodles, nuts, more nuts,... because mice and bugs can't get into a glass jug.
Freeze the rice and flour first. The bug eggs are already in there

@@shantelbryan3660 Yes they are. For me, I store the jugs in my semi trailer which freezes all winter. I also keep them out of sun light. I used to keep foods in 5 gallon buckets with lids but realized glass is a much better container. Be well my friend.

I use to own an Italian deli like 10 years ago. The chef from the olive garden would order a plate of of spaghetti and chicken parm from us a couple of times a week. I asked why he didn't just get it from work. He said because your sauce doesn't come from a jar and you actually bread real chicken and cook it fresh. I laughed and told him I mean no disrespect but olive garden is nothing more then an over priced Italian McDonald's To this day it blows my mind that people can't figure out that its nothing but crap from your frozen food section. .

There’s a Mexican restaurant in town our family lives to eat at.
In 2019, our family of 8 ate there for $100. Just last week, six of us ate there for $100. Our eldest joined us after work, but he ate my husbands leftovers and drank water.
We don’t eat out as often as we used to.
However, there really is no reason for any wife to work outside the home (unless she has to). I’ve been a stay-at-home wife/mom for over 25 years with six children born during that time. ONE TIME I worked at the church day care and my oldest two boys went there for free. That was only for about a year.
We have been in wealth and we have been in lack, but I’ve never felt like I needed to get a job to help support the family.
Oh, and did I mention we have homeschooled for 20+ years?!
Even us small farmers/home gardeners/homesteaders… the cost of inputs is up. Animal grain feeds, bulk seeds, compost, construction materials, and then the trickle down of services like vet bill, mechanic, Cpa… it’s more difficult to do anything these days

Dairy Queen used to be nice once in a while summer treat. We went there last week and I had to tell my kids no blizzards. The mini size used to be $2.49 and now it was almost $5....for 4 ounces of ice cream and candy. Over the last couple of years, we've only eaten out a handful of times. I'm sure we're healthier for it. Anywho, I bought my husband a Stupid Shout Hurt shirt and he loves it.
I think the lady with the $20 grocery cart is 1970. Those figures are 1970, not 1980. But I get the point.

Ruth Chris, party of 5 was about 500 I had a 300 dollar gift card thinking I would eat high on the hog, um "steer" NOPE. Of course this is in comifornia.
I got a $250 gift card for a similar restaurant a few years ago…sold it for $200 because I looked and the menu and prices online and it would have barely covered a meal for 2. I knew we could make the same meal at home, for about $25 and 30 minutes. We got the cash and someone who wanted to go eat there got a discount on their meal.
We are past inflation. We just entered HYPER INFLATION. It's about to get real

It’s been rough- my husband and I didn’t meet until it was too late to really get the homesteading life rolling. Now we’re stuck at a trailer park expecting our first arrow for our quiver, but alternate living options aren’t available. Gardening is impossible and living in a trailer we can’t stock up either. But I haven’t lost hope! If any else feels defeated in a similar situation I can say do what you can. I have been attempting to make all our dairy product from scratch, primarily yogurt but cheese now and again as well. We keep a few fermented foods around and we are doing our best to learn! Though we aren’t in a position to truly homestead we can always take the opportunity to learn and collect books on the various aspects. Our “medical” library (primarily pre-1950) is expanding so we can be sure to take care of ourselves and others. I know Yehovah will open a door for us eventually to move on, but in the meantime I try and be useful where I’m at to those around me. 😊 Bless you Zac for keeping people aware and encouraging us all through these insane times.

Dinning out makes as much sense as buying an aspirin while you're in the hospital. You might not have a choice when confined to the infirmiry; but it's dumb to
keep going to these eateries! I have reverse engineered a bunch of all these prepackaged foods. They're basic recipes! You can make all this stuff and better quality out of the Better Homes and Garden cookbook and pay $10 to feed 4 people and have leftovers for that midnight snack.
I worked at restaurant that got off the Sysco truck. Great food, lemme tell you. But sometimes the lettuce came in frozen or had wilt, depending on the season, and I would tell the manager bc I knew they could let the company know and recoup a discount for it. But dang, I was being paid $7.75 an hour to pick through lettuce and that's beneath my paygrade so you know they're losing more than just the product. And before you get put off of the lettuce because of blight, it's not a disease that affects people, it just tastes nasty bitter. Those days my job is to find the lettuce that could be used and chop off the nasty bits until there's only good lettuce. Sometimes 3/4 of all the product goes in the trash. Point is, it's not always simple as taking off the truck and throwing in a dish, although that's the idea. You're eating your profit paying someone to spend an hour of the shift fixing it who should be only dishing it for that hour.
But I got off the beat a little. Stop eating at restaurants. If they don't have customers, they'll drop the prices. This is upper management bloat and shareholder appeasement. Hey, there's nothing stopping you from getting your CDL, buying a fridge truck, going to these small farms around here and helping them get to market local. But small farms are jacking their prices up, too, because they see the market prices and say "hey, we got a premium product here that doesn't have the miles on it. We can collect on the miles and charge more and keep it all!"
5 years ago heirloom tomatoes were selling for $5 each in the city because the twisty bumping things look so special, and they paid it because they didn't know what an heirloom veggie/fruit is. Is that a kick in the head or what???
You - the consumer- shares in no small part in this price hike. You don't get all the blame, but you're just grabbing your ankles and encouraging them. Walk away from those prices. Don't pay it. Go home and make it!
MacDonalds Fries original recipe - fry it in hamburger grease. That was genius. They produced the grease by collecting the by product of the burgers they made on site and never paid for the oil. Now they buy it processed from dairy lecthin and something else for the flavor- who cares, point is they're not being frugal anymore. But you can do it at home. Julienne your potato, boil it for 30 seconds, drain well, drop in your hamburger grease fryer (use a fryer, kids. Don't burn your house down using a kitchen pot as a fryer). You'll have your authentic McD fries fix and I bet you can make a better burger than they can, and not pay no $5/potato.

Zach, it's possible to still have the mom stay home. My husband works and I stay home. We also home school. We have decided to not have the newest, shiny things everyone around us have. We pay in cash or debit cards for everything. We don't go on expensive trips. It was important to my husband that I stay home. I stopped working in 2001 when our oldest was born. We didn't notice the crash in 08 because we already were living what people considered poor. You have to make sacrifices to have one parent in the home but it can be done.

A little different, I quit in 2000 when my oldest grandson was born, after he was put in daycare. My husband and I talked, and I quit to care for him. Ultimately, I ended up raising my three grands on one income including homeschooling them. The last "child" married and moved out in January. It is possible, and is truly shows priorities.

Where I live in Ohio a quarter of a beef is now 900 dollars. In the past you could buy a whole beef for around 1500

Crazy I can raise a whole 300 pound hog for close to $100-$150 in corn and some liberal in a metropolis thinks $150 dollars for a meal at olive garden is a good deal lol 😂

We haven’t noticed any price increases in fast food. We’re too busy cooking for our kids at home. We haven’t noticed any changes in government schools. We’re too busy homeschooling our kids in between cooking meals.

Ate at Ruth’s Chris recently. Dinner for 2, bottle of wine and shared a dessert was about $300.
So dinner for 4 would be around double. Makes sense.

Something ive noticed is the price between "normal" restaurants and higher end restaurantsas been getting closer and closer. Ruths Chris is still only about $60 for a basic steak and $10-15 for a side. So were talking $150-200 for a dinner for two. Not outrageous and the prices have stayed about the same. Now look at hotels. A motel 6 is now $100/night most places. And holiday inn is around $130. Prices are getting closer and closer. Its weird.

Just an FYI … Darden (OG parent) direct sources their products and has their own distribution centers in the US, so they don’t use the big national distribution companies (paper goods maybe). Boots on the ground in many farms monthly. By far superior total quality program than any other casual dining company out there. It’s actually incredibly impressive if you are aware of their efforts.

Sorry, I worked at Olive Garden. We did actually cook, 30 years ago. The Saucier came in at 5am every day to make the sauces and soups from scratch. I won't assume they no longer cook, without proof.

When I was 15 and working at McDonald's, we used to Crack ACTUAL EGGS for the breakfast items. Today, all the eggs come premixed in plastic bags.
My first job was Taco Bell. We used to cook the pinto beans in a large pressure cooker. As a teenager this used to intimidate me. I bet they wouldn’t allow that these days. Someone might get hurt! 😂 We also browned all the ground beef, drained the fat off then seasoned it. We cut up all the lettuce, onions and tomatoes by hand using very sharp knives. I imagine now most all of this is bagged and/or frozen.

Anyone complaining over having to pay a $1 to gain access to such a amazing resource, needs to go away. Ignore them. they had to pay more to access the internet or do anything in life in 2024, so crying over paying a $1 is petty. If you're homeless, just say that... You have greater issues to deal with if you cant afford a dollar to secure your family's health.
Preppers- FYI A few months ago Biden quietly approved for FEMA (in case of national emergency)to be able to go door to door and collect food in excess of a two weeks supply for people who did not prepare for emergencies. They also will be looking for portable toilets, first aid supplies, probably guns, ammo.etc.
I don't think they ever take home canned goods because they don't know that they were properly canned for food safety.
And if the month and year on your canning lids is too "old" I don't think they would touch it.
My husband is from Turkey, just moved here to usa in january. I understand where he came from inflation is very high and economy is not good but it irritates me when he says everything is free here....but he also isnt paying all the bills yet. God bless him, his desire is to make me a housewife which would be great for us but i don't see how we could afford it until our house is paid off
