I would like to build my own crates based on your advice. Rather than getting a bunch of songs that I probably already have from years of DJing and dealing with even more duplicates, I was wondering if you could share the song lists for the crates?

I'm retired, 70 years old, been around every genre of music. I have collected music my whole life. I convert the vinyl to digital. One thing, me personally, noticed, is if it has a good dance beat, no matter the genre, they dance. I don't worry about it. I do weddings for free and car shows for tips. I enjoy the music and being around it. Maybe the dance floor isn't full at all times, but it is occupied by different generations and I don't run off the older folks by 8:00. They stay for it all.
I do preprogrammed and mixed music, put them into titled folders and open at the precise time. No complaints so far.

Yep. I played Elvis at the wedding on Friday. Lol but I also played endless love which I don’t hear much anymore. Your first video helped me to get my crates together. Those people who are still DJ off the top of there head are living in denial. Lol

Nick I can’t tell you how much you’ve really got me excited to bang out weddings again. Last year I was just going through motions at my events and probably guilty of running very similar sets over and over again! Your crate videos have really gotten me so excited to do weddings and events this year with fresh eyes and a new game plan for attacking that dance floor! You’ve made a fan for life my man!! Thanks for your Time an effort you put into these tutorials and keep up the great content!!

Great breakdown, love your energy! I used to think I had to mindlessly download the most recent of recent hits to play. I quickly realized that weddings is about 95% classic bangers with only a few new hits sprinkled in. I find it laughable when most DJs boast about having "100,000" song collections when in reality, a better DJ handpicks his music library to have bangers only, no fillers. The average party you only play about 100 songs or so if not less. Another thing that defined me as a DJ was bartending in the busiest nightclubs and sports bars in town. It made me realize I didnt want to be the DJ playing the same sets over and over again. After hearing most DJs at my clubs or bars I could quickly tell which song they would play next.

Great content as always. We started doing this a couple years ago and it has paid HUGE dividends to us. Once or twice a year, we go through all of them again, add new songs and got rid of the "fluff." It's amazing how much easier every event has been since we started doing this. When we meet with our couples now, we talk about genres they like rather than individual songs. Makes prep time so much shorter too. Nice to see you sharing your folders. I'm sure it's worth every penny. Catch you next time you are spinning in Harrisburg. Stay safe.

I know this is an older vid but dang this helped he figure out my problem! I just had waaaay to many songs and not enough folders. It would take me 30 secs to find a song sometimes which is an eternity when you're mixing, as well as tons of stuff that just wasn't getting played so using the Serato play count feature most of my 0 plays are getting canned or refiled elsewhere. Good vid!

But is there a software that you use as your main database or when you download new music do you just put it into your main library folder? Hi Nick! Im a wedding DJ from Russia and I want to say that me and my friends-Dj-s have almost the same crates as you are. Of course, we usually don't have "Latin" music in special folder/crate :) But the main difference is that many Djs, who I know, divide all music to "Foreign" and "Russian" and these are our main crates which include sub-crates similar to yours. And on most wedding parties usually plays music from "Russian" crate, of course :) and sub-crates often looks like "Rus-dance..." and then goes a date of creating this folder (and crate). And it always consist of bangers so you can easy find what you need. That might be interesting, i thought. ;)
