    • @PianoManPaul

Now THIS strikes me ... Pronger's from my home town, Dryden Ontario - where my dad made a living as a geography teacher for several years. I knew of Chris through his family and friends, and we all knew he was destined for greatness after he left home for Peterborough to play with the Pete's, he was only about 15 at the time. I've been back for visits and a couple times I saw him at a party, and he passed a comment to me how good he thought the band was (that's why I was home that weekend, I had a gig at the bar there, I was living in Winnipeg at the time). I thanked him and joked, "Lots of talent comes from this town". After knowing I was from from there and kinda remembering who I was, he was happy to hang a bit and have a couple beers with me... what a great guy. He's made Dryden and the people in it very proud. 🏒🏒🏒

Chris Pronger is one of those players you hate, unless he's on your team. I was fortunate enough to watch him as a Blue for 9 years. I'm going to tonight's game and the Blues are retiring Chris's #44 before the game. He was one of the meanest, toughest shutdown d-men to ever play the game.

He was a smooth skating, puke moving, quarter back who would control the game every shift he was out there. He also just happened to be 6ft 5, 230lbs, big hitter, with a mean attitude, a will to win and willing to do what was needed to win....and if that mean't walking the line or going over it....he would!!!

@@nickgoldrup4314 Not only was Chris the best athlete that ever came out of our town, he was one of the best in Canada born in the 1970's. He was born Oct. of '74, which makes him just slightly over 10 years younger than me. I left Dryden when I was 21, in 1985, so he would've been 11 at that time. I was back for Centennial (actually I lived back home in Dryden and gave my career an 18-month rest - During Centennial parade in 2010, crowds downtown cheered him on as he sported his Olympic gold medal, and I remembered what a proud feeling that was, and how proud his parents must be.
I kinda knew the family, and I heard more and more stories about how their kids got really involved in hockey, then I heard this guy Chris got on the Peterboro Petes .. then a SECOND-OVERALL draft snag by Hartford for his ticket into the NHL just 2 years later. A Stanley Cup ring, A Hart Trophy win (first for a defenseman in almost 30 years - Bobby Orr was the last), and TWO gold medals on team Canada, that came 8 years apart.
All that -- born and raised, in that smelly, paper-mill town in Northwestern Ontario. No freaking wonder we're proud of the guy.

Probert, McSorley, Brashear, Laraque, Domi..... No way in the world he would ever have had the plums to drop the gloves with any of those guys. Cross checking skilled players in the back in front of the net was what he was best at. A gutless p&*$y is what he was, nothing more.
