+PeeCee the video above is about Australia and the comment further down was about Australia why would where I live have any relevance? However since you ask I live in an imperfect world and my country of origin is far from perfect. As for feeling pride it's a bit like being proud of having two ears or a pair of operating arms: to be proud of something you had no control of or any part of the decision making process is rather odd. Pride about a country is generally mindless - the flag waving antics of the USA immediately spring to mind.
+revol148 The Australia I know has no sense of superiority over anyone - we happily invite all and sundry here to share our way of life. And if you think England treated the aborigines badly, consider what might have happened to them if the French or Chinese had discovered and settled the country first. Whatever county you are from, I'll bet you have borders, and control who comes in and out.
+PeeCee have you been reading the historian Niall Ferguson by any chance? - he made that exact (very valid) point - after all if the Japanese got their first there wouldn't be ANY Aborigines left. Contemporary Australia has nothing to apologize for - in much the same way Germans growing up in post 1945 should stop banging on about a war they had no involvement with. I live in the EU and trust me our borders are very porous as the current migration crisis demonstrates.
+revol148 Why should I be ashamed for being Australian because of what my ancestors did many decades ago? This is a beautiful song I guess in a way if other Australians do something really nice it shows that I can do something really nice too. You need to lighten up, this is an amazing song and all you want to do is bring up how much of an asshole we are for being proud of where we came from. I am sorry if I am quite happy about where I come from offends you but that's your problem. I know the kind of mentality people like you have, there's a definite pattern I see in people taking stuff out on the human race and I would be hypocritical to say I've never done it. Instead of naming a person and bullying them and saying how bad they are to make yourself feel better, you'll change the words and just add "humans" instead. There's nothing wrong with it because you're not bullying any particular person but it just leaves you with a very miserable mindset to.
When I listen to this song, it reminds me of my late parents, who rest peacefully at Macquarie Park in Sydney. I constantly miss both my parents and Sydney.

Hearing Peter singing this song when I’m on the other side of the world, creates a longing for Vegemite sandwiches, dry paddocks and the aroma of gum trees. Such a heartfelt song, it brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it. Peter Allen God rest his soul, was a true blue Australian boy who no matter where he travelled or where he went, never forgot where he came from and to him, Australia was home. Which is of course is the meaning of this song, you can hear the yearning in the words and his voice.

I am from China and I heard this song in Qantas ad, it’s such a beautiful and emotional song. I love it very much as well, I’ve been to Australia twice and I love the country and its wonderful people. Now I am studying in Canada, when I listen to the song I now can feel its emotion, it reminds me of my home as well, sometimes I cried. Very beautiful song!

You're like fucking 12 years old, aren't you? Because if you were anywhere near the 70s you'd know Peter Allen was far from underrated. Such a bullshit youtube comments meme... UdErrATeD!!!
Songwriter: Peter Allen. Lyricist: Peter Allen. Performer: Peter Allen. Why am I saying so? My "patriotism"/"matriotism" is to Mother Earth but, of all alternatives for the Australian national anthem, 'I Still Call Australia Home' is the only one where the songwriter, lyricist and performer are one and the same person. You like it? You don't like it? Either way, it is one song which comes from the heart i.e. moreso than any other candidate for Australia's national anthem. Peter Allen died way too soon but he was Australian born and lived his life here. From this song, it is not hard to imagine that he was patriotic. I am before my time when it comes to national anthems in general so I won't comment beyond my opening line. As a song though, I like it. It is simple. It can be played on a single piano with as much effect (if not moreso) than being played by an orchestra (which can also be done). Sheesh, it can be sung a-capella. Peter Allen's enunciation is flawless - no need for lyrics websites here. These are just a couple of the points I look at in "assessing" a song. Enjoyable. Thanks for the upload.
he died June 18th 1992 which is about 24 years ago almost to the day. I am still sad at his passing. He was so gifted. I was able to see him twice. I love this song, and wish we in America and had a national anthem like this. the Australians should go to make this the national anthem. It's more fitting with people traveling and moving and the world becoming more mobile. You couldn't ask for a more heartfelt national anthem. I'm an American and our national anthem is about a war. Peter Allen was your gift to the world.
Thank you. As an Australian (very anti-nationalist and extremely anti-abbott, Dutton and hanson) I do not like Advance Australia Fair. It is nothing more than forelock-tugging from people wanting to be England in the Southern Hemisphere. I embrace multiculturalism and this song presents Australia as a beacon for Australians travelling overseas.
@@sliat1981 We all know it's not....what we're saying is that it *should be* and that America should have an anthem like this as well, not one about a war.
That’s not true. I am a Chinese who immigrated to Australia in 2003. I am full of tears every time when I hear this song. I love Australia and I call Australia home!

When you've just spent 3-5 weeks touring America, and you hear the first Aussie Accent in WEEKS at the QANTAS or VIRGIN check-in counter at LAX, you think of this song and you will lose your shit. I did..... Both times I went to America. Home is where your heart is, My heart is in Australia.
Great song sang by a great and talented man thank you Peter you can’t be Australian and not love this
Always proud to be Australian. We love you Peter.
So many tears guys!
I still get tears from this
I still love it!!! Our song!
Nice tribute.
Seriously underrated talent.
Just listened to another Aussie boy , sing this 2024 , His name is Josh Rennie,Hynes , He's been doing well in Nashville , God Bless Australians . ❤
he died June 18th 1992 which is about 24 years ago almost to the day. I am still sad at his passing. He was so gifted. I was able to see him twice. I love this song, and wish we
in America and had a national anthem like this. the Australians should go to make this the national anthem.
It’s not our anthem. Our one is shit
@@sliat1981 We all know it's not....what we're saying is that it *should be* and that America should have an anthem like this as well, not one about a war.
@@peterwynn2169 I totally agree with you. I hate all those politicians too. Especially the racist Pauline Hansen. Even saying her name make me sick.

Trolls
Yes, and Chinese.
That’s not true. I am a Chinese who immigrated to Australia in 2003. I am full of tears every time when I hear this song. I love Australia and I call Australia home!
RIP PETER, you are missed son. As I am now older than when you died..........I can now see how young you died. I still call Oz home but am now a Brit
+Michelle Liddell no you are always an Australian - unless you think nationality all comes down to which passport you currently travel with.
Sell out
Just keep loving this amazing country. Thanks Peter.
Brings a tear to the eye but where ever you are still call Australia home
Wonderful music, by his composer, the late PETER ALLEN. There are many records of this great song. ANDRE RIEU, and others.
