• EXTREME "Queen Medley"...
Multi Cam Edit of Extreme paying homage to the legend Freddie Mercury.
With additional Split Screen editing done by myself.
Their harmonies are AMAZING!!! And instead of plugging their own material, they chose to do a fantastic tribute to Freddie! MASSIVE respect to Extreme who remain who of my fave bands to this day.
It's amazing that Nuno has been one of the most influential musicians of the past two decades. His ability to adapt to different styles of music, his behind-the-scenes contributions, and his musical scores have kept him relevant all these years and one of the most sought-after guitarists on the planet.
I was there that day and this medley by Extreme is still my favourite part of the Freddie Mercury Tribute!!!
In my opinion, the band Extreme was the best performance at the Tribute to Freddie Mercury in 1992.
Deysy Rojas I am agree
I remember watching this live as it happened, from my couch sick with the flu. These guys stole the show. One of my most fave memories from this concert. Thanks for the post!
Nobody will ever have a voice like Freddie's but Gary Cherone is amazing here.
The best tribute a band could ever get. Simply amazing.
Nuno Bettencourt...the best guitarist, like, ever. PERIOD!
I think Extreme is one of the "post-Queen" rock bands that sound quite pure and harmonic. Such great vocal work on their songs and their sound was quite interesting. That's what I call a ROCK BAND!
They definitely had "a thousand" more to give besides "More Than Words". I highly recommend to listen more from this HUGE band. They were real musicians (specially Mr Bettencourt). WOOOOO!
Best Queen cover ever done!
These guys are really, I mean REALLY awesome !! The best part of this concert !! Nuno and Gary are big fans of Queen, and they prove it. Personnaly, I don't like very much Queen but for me, these songs played by Extreme, it changes everything !! The Nuno's playing and his sound are just... incredible !!! They are MONSTERS !!!
La Loutre - Not into Queen? Are you stupid or just talking out your ass? Lord....
Kevin Cramer What's your problem? Everybody has different taste in music. I'm not into Queen, too. That's nothing disrespectful... There are so many dumb comments out there like "this band/musician is shit" and you have to complain about someone who just says he doesn't like them too much?
Keep Yourself Alive is now my favourite Queen song because of this performance.
Dam it Nuno! Stop giving me goosebumps!
Nuno is an amazing guitarist.
Nuno's guitar tone at the start of ' I Want To Break Free' makes me want to break free !!!!
You gotta love Nuno's outfit! Of course, the guitar riffs are great, too.
Why this wasn't included in the original DVD is beyond me! It's the best bit!
Greatest musical performance of all time.
I've never seen this before today. I've been a fan of Extreme for 11 or 12 years. This is great!
Have to give them credit. They clearly put huge effort into that. Good on them! :)
Truly i don't have any song of Extreme but i think that this band was the best on the tribute!
Absolutely stole the show.. Best performance, by far. Too bad their entire performance isn't posted.
I'm 16, and Nuno is one of the coolest people I have ever been witness to. How can someone be so sexy, talented and downright awesome at the same time? It's a little awkward having a crush on a guy a few years younger than my parents.
Extreme stole the show that night. Hands down. Would’ve been great if they closed the entire concert.
Now there's a REAL band. Nuno is friggin AMAZING!
great performance, guys from Extreme!
I agree , Gary should have been the no brainer , for filling in for Freddie instead of that idol guy .
Extreme schooled every one that day on how Queen stuff should sound like
I can possibly see why the rest of the non-Queen stuff was cut from the DVD, but this?! This is freaking awesome! Easily the best I've heard anyone other than Queen perform these songs. Their vocal harmonies are awesome.
The VHS copy had this and Metallica, GnR, Def Leppard and Extreme sets. So good!
@mack89464 LOL. So wish I could go back some years. See Freddie alive would be beautiful, but seeing all those people showing their love for him is even more.
The funny guy in the crowd made my lol so badly, btw xD
oh please leave this on youtube forever...this is amazing and I love Gary Cherone and the guitars were dead on accurate to the original....this is an absolutely over-the-top in credible performance and video.
@DavidGerd I freaking love the harmonies they get with their voices.
Can't get much better than this - Extreme and Queen. Two of the best bands there ever was. Freddie would be proud! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for uploading this version... it's such a great performance, I like more and more every time I watch it.
Yes, this was one of the best performances of the Tribute. It rocked. One of the other best performances of the evening was when Cherone came back later in the evening to play with Brian May and Tony Iommi for "Hammer to Fall." Extreme understood its Queen.
Nuno in another one bites the dust... the guy is a genius
@Seasonseven1 Nuno's work on "Pornograffiti" and "3 Sides to Every Story" is some of the best work I've EVER had the privelege to hear. Simply BRILLIANT.
MAN...LET THE FUCKING CROWD SINGS !!!!
I agree Extreme's cover of Queen songs was far better than anyone elses. I like how Gary and the band had a strong connection with the audience.
I watched this concert LIVE and can attest that Extreme STOLE the show. The same way Queen stole the Live Aid concert
What a shame!!!!!! They got cut from the VHS version. Now that's a big
WHAT THE FFFFFUUUCCCKKK?!?!?!?!?
Why??? They brought Freddie back to the people, which is the what this concert was all about!!!
Extreme was one of the most underrated bands. But if any band knows what Queen was all about, it's these guys!!! Gary, Nuno, Pat & Paul!
I remember watching this live on TV and recording it on VHS. After this performance, there was a shot of James Hetfield who was getting ready to go on w/ Metallica and he was like F me.. who can follow that?
Best live act EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mejor presentación en VIVO!!!!!! solo vean el público!!!!!
I cant get tired of watching this medley, one of the best queen covers ever! Amazing...
To me, Extrme's Medley Performance was the greatest tribute to Freddie. They played and sang the whole thing with respect and love. You could just see it.
I am very glad to hear this song
what an honour for queen and extreme, amazing! keep yourself alive, what a song!
So many memories of watching this for the first time back in 1992. I always credit these guys for turning me onto the music of Queen when I was a teenager. It always made me sad though that Gary and Nuno's performance of More Than Words/ Love of My Life always seems to get cut out of every version of this video.
They are the most incredible tribute band to ever cover Queen.....Exteme is so under rated and never got the credit from this tribute they desereved....they deserved all the credit!....they came conquered and kicked ass like no one else did trough the whole show and no one knew who they were! Extreme was that whole show....Period!!!! They killed it the whole opening from start to finish! Extreme is music and its truly an honor to see them honoring their idols.
Wow.. I never tought Extreme were this good! This was by far the best perfomance at Freddie Mercury´s tribute concert not that George Michael shitty perfomance, oh yes! Nuno makes me proud of being portuguese XD! Man, what a guitar player!
The best performance and tribute to Freddy Ever! .Gary Cherone's stage presence and charisma kicks ass! His voice quality and energy is so much like Freddy or even better. Truly one of the best vocalist of all time.
Nuno just slays on the guitar. Pat and the Paul plays with conviction. Freddy would be very happy watching this. I hope They would do this again. Extreme rules!
I was there...to the right of the stage...sat next to Nick Faldo! Absolutely fantastic day. I remember there were a few issues with sound at the beginning of the set, but it came together at the beginning of KYA.
it's awsome how they added solos to another one bites the dust. haha
I was never like a properly hardcore fan, never seen them in concert but I've often thought Extreme really don't get the respect they deserve in the pantheon of great rock bands. Nuno is of course amongst the all-time great guitarists, but Cherone was/is a truly committed and engaging frontman and very good singer, plus their spectacular arrangements, politically-aware yet poptastic and memorable songwriting, a once-in-a-lifetime vocal harmony blend between Gary and Nuno... they really had a lot going for them besides great cheekbones. Perhaps they (and their hair...) were fractionally behind their time in basically sounding like Queen with better guitar chops, but their abilities were really never in question and I still listen to Pornograffiti (spelling?) and love every minute of it. Grunge has a lot to answer for in kind of swamping the legacy of this splendid band, amongst others, making us think that great musicianship was somehow uncool.
You should check out pronograffitti live 25, it's floating around on youtube as well. They still fucking kill live. 3 sides to every story was an incredible album as well. Cupid's dead, alone, is an amazing track. Not to mention rest in peace and warheads. Yeah, they got lost in the shuffle at the end of the 80's. As a guitar player, I remember my jaw hitting the floor the first time I watched Bill and Ted's excellent adventure and heard the guitar work and harmonies in play with me. I was hooked on Nuno's playing from then on and avidly followed everything they did. Between his groove, Gary's vocal, and the three part harmonies they have with Pat, there is no reason at all that this band shouldn't have broken huge if it was a fair world. Unfortunately, grunge came along and eclipsed a bunch of really talented bands at the end of the 80's. Extreme, King's X, Winger, just to name a few..... All loaded with talent and amazing players but pinned with the hair band stigma and quickly shut out of radio and video play. Thank god for youtube and a whole new generation discovering them now and realizing just how good they really are.
God's speed brother, and remember, good musicianship might be uncool or too complicated for the average listener, but among musicians it's always what's important. Every guitar player working the bar band circuit, myself included, spent the entire decade of the 90's rolling our eyes and yawning while playing Nirvana and such. I don't personally hate any of the bands, it is what it is, but damn it was boring to play... :)
III Sides to Every Story is INCREDIBLE! I listen to it everyday and it’s one of the greatest albums I ever listened to
tal cual
thank u Jp, awesome...
absolute magic
This was apsolutley amazing, Fredy would be sooo proud!!!!!!
Extreme are awesome, queen are awesome. There could not have been a better tribute. Saw extreme a few months ago in manchester, they have got even better.
i watch this video at least once a day. GREATEST FROM THE SHOW AND THEY CUT IT FROM THE DVD!!!
Yep, it sure is, Nuno is the man!
Incredible performence. Extreme rocks
Menudo homenaje!!!!!!!!!! , y en concreto EXTREME lo bordaron.
Grandes!!!!!!
AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!
they rocked the whole stadium...
EXTREME ROCKS...
I made myself log in...just to comment. I could usually care less about comments...but you sir, deserve a "Job Well Done" on this video. I've seen the other footage on UA-cam of this Extreme Queen tribute, you take this to the next level. Bravo, My hat is off to you.
dummer is not flashy but boy he is SOLID!!!!
band has some awesome harmonies too
This is an excellent video post- thanks tobler!
I like it, the best medley tribute of queen=D thans EXTREME=D
Outstanding!! Much Pride from Boston.....much Pride!! AAAAAHHHH!!!!
Extreme was the best act this evening!!!
First time I saw this inspired me to learn guitar....
Nuno rocks ;-)
Good choice of songs
Never understood why Brian and Roger never got Gary to front Queen instead of Adam Slambutt. Gary is more like Freddie than Adam. Who is more like a Liza Minnelli impersonator
+65boogerbutt Extreme started as a queen tribute band, however the band was just starting to hit it big when Freddie passed. That being said, he'd be perfect
+Daltons RockShow Extreme was never a Queen tribute band. Gary Cherone and Nuno Bettencourt played in different bands and began writing songs together and formed Extreme playing their new music which landed them a contract with A&M Records.
Cuz Adam doesn't want to imitate Freddie? Putting someone that's like Freddie or that tries to be like him it's pure dumb and kinda disrepectful, so that reason you gave is really stupid. With that being said, Gary would have been awesome, with his own style, as he does in this video.
I want a couple hits of what you're smoking,....please.
Xaton Adam is great and puts on a great show, but it's more like a Broadway show. Almost to over the top. If he starred in a Broadway Show based on Queens music he'd be perfect. Queen should have gotten Gary as soon as Extreme broke up. He fits with them much more than VH. He is killing it here.
such a heartfelt tribute!
Kings. 👑
I'd pay big $$s to see a concert like this today.
extreme... the best!!!
Gary's Voice is amazing, Adam Lambert is a Good singer but Gary has that Raspy kind of vocals Queen need to do a proper tribute to F.Mercury !
i can't stop watching this
THE BEST QUEEN MEDLEY!
Best performence in that tribute without doubt
Li ho conosciuti proprio vedendo questo concerto, essendo un grandissimo fan dei Queen. Un grande gruppo, purtroppo sottovalutato!
Nuno is underrated !!!
Brilliant tribute !! Thank U !!
if is't someone who can' replece freddy this person is right there. great respect for
Gary Cherone and extreme
you done a grand job with video mate
I remember extreme stood out at the concert they seemed to be able to rehash songs and make them their own. Their version on the Kiss tribute album of strutter was outa this world
fuck these guys were on fire!!
How many people after watching this video picked up their guitars?
@XXArmsOfNukesxX totally agree, love the guy, he's got talent!!
Really good , not bad for Extreme
@DavidGerd sublime words. III sides is a piece of story of '90 music!!
Thats Queen - Keep yourself alive
Extreme and Led Zeppelin. Best bands ever!! PERIOD!!!!!!
Thanks so much for all the info. ;) I did get a VHS copy from Tower Records
without the medley nor the two last songs! This was back in 1993. I'm still
baffled.
But they should have an annuversary re-release or something with ALL missing
performances in it. We can have 3 DVD's. Hell, make it six if they have to. ;)
This was an amazing tribute/get together.
Maya Raimondo
Sent from my iPhone
awesome.
Extreme rocks!!
i want to break free...spine chilling...but freddie...was awesome
I remember watching this live on TV back in 92'
It's the intro to the song "Mustapha" from the 'Jazz' album.
Love extreme, love the mustafa and level of respect they have for queen... But... Should they have pounded into the rock of Bohemian Rhapsody ..?? Yeah why not!
