    Nice update Dean! I do have a 2020 with 10,000 km and just returned from 9 days in Nth BC (Canada). The tires do ok on gravel, and I didn't have to deactivate my ABS (have the switch) and am a total newbie offroad, so Enduro is adeqaute. I did one water crossing, of two cm haha. I guess you could call it a puddle. The 750 GS is very capable and yours looks great. I did buy the Touratech brake extension.... so don't be cheap now ;)

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  3 роки тому

      Haha. I won't be cheap. Just need to get round to it. Yeah, I might leave these tyres on, I've been off-road on lots of loose gravel and mud, nothing extreme, but apart from a few slips it's ok. Yeah, my friend has the 2020 too, I envy his ABS button!!!

    I've been looking at the 750 as well. I currently have the G310 GS, but on long sprints on the highway and occasional freeway, the top 70-80 mph with high vibration is tiring. However, I do push my limits off road quite a bit and inevitably will drop my bike. It's already a chore with the 310 and the 750 would be more work, but anything larger would be exhausting. I just wish they'd make the smaller bike more durable for off road. All seem to be road bikes that are adjust for occasional off road. Hopefully someone makes a true smaller ADV bike!

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  3 роки тому +3

      I've not ridden the 310, but I certainly know about 'bone shakers' at top speeds, and you bring up a very important, often overlooked factor: Vibration is tiring. I used to wear tight gym kit as undergarments for muscle support, years ago, for that very purpose... But you know what... I was thinking just last week how great long rides are on the 750GS. I'm still riding through Colombia, and some days doing 8 to 12 hours on the road, sitting at around 120kmph on long open roads (ok, 150, but shhh) and there's absolutely no discomfort. No vibration, nothing. Sometimes I even get a bit sleepy!!

      No, never. I've ridden in a lot of rain and also once rode through a river up to my knees for about 20 metres. Very nerve-wracking incase I fell off, I wouldn't have been able to find the bike... But rode it hard straight after to burn off any water, but no, never had an issue.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 роки тому +1

      +Juvian ... Hola. Unfortunately, you have to order direct from Mosko, they don't have distributors, as they claim it keeps the cost down. But I really wanted them so I ordered direct and paid the import tax which was another $200 on top of the $1,000 cost. But the way I look at it is I'll probably have them for a very long time, as they're excellent quality. I also bought the 4 waterproof linings for the side pockets, but in all honesty that's a waste of money because I've never used them. I also bought the two fuel canisters from Mosko as they fit snuggly, so that's worth it... and I needed them once when up in La Guajira. I don't get commission, but definitely recommend them, even though it costs us extra living in Colombia.

  • @greenambles

    Dean, thanks so much for the comprehensive update and info. Sorry to hear there simply no option to de-activate the ABS on a bike - as you rightly flag up - that promoted as capable and intended for off-road. I’ve now read (as you may have) that new euro five rules mean new Bikes not allowed the option of disengaging the ABS. (I had a look at the new Triumph Tiger 850 sport and it also has non-switchable ABS…) This does then beg the question as to why it is still available on the 850 GS but perhaps that’s why they buried it quite deep in the settings? I’d like to think that BMW would vary the bikes back so outside of Europe where such regulations don’t apply they could add the non-ABS option but perhaps too difficult or expensive within the build logistics? Who knows?.. I’m a big fan of Europe and personally think it’s a mistake we left the EU but if it is the case that Euro five regulations responsible for this option not being available then that another thorn in the side of such arguments as surely being able to switch the ABS off to improve safety off-road is just as important as being able to have it on for safety when on-road? Anyhow, bon voyage!

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  3 роки тому

      Hi Barney, yes I totally agree. If bikes are assembled for distribution outside of Europe, then the ABS rule should not apply. Bit as you said, it's probably too difficult. I'm sure someone will find a workaround soon.

    Thank you for all your 750gs videos! I’m considering hard case panniers vs soft case (mosko) and wondering if you are concerned about theft with the Mosko panniers? If so, is there anything you do to mitigate the risk of theft? I will potentially travelling to Baja California and worried about theft with the Mosko cases…. thoughts? TIA!

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 роки тому +1

      +M. M ... I don't worry about theft, because if I park the bike for the night, I will unclip the bags and take into the hotel. Which is why I prefer soft. If I'm just leaving for a few hours to walk around, I always park in a secured parking lot. Sometimes I've threaded a cable lock through the lock straps when leaving on the street, but very rarely. But yes, hard cases do give you better security for street parking and securing your jacket and helmet. My advice to anyone on the fence is to have hard cases if you only road tour, and soft cases if you like moto camping or offroad adventures. But there's always arguments for and against that too.

    Hey Dean! Since you're one of the more public 750 riders out there, I've got a question for you. I am debating what kind of soft/hard cases to get for my 750GS. I am stuck between the Lone Rider set and the Mosko Moto set. I noticed you have gone for the Moskos, I was wondering if you had any input. I original loved the moskos and was going to go for them but then LR announced their prototype mount for the vario mounts, already on the bike. Meaning I wouldn't have to get a luggage rack, and could just put the Panniers on. LR also offers the "travel the world bundle" which seems to come with every I would ever need luggage wise. and If i got the moskos I would need to get a couple more items. Anyway that's the back story I’m wondering if you've heard anything one way or another about either company. Like i said I know they're both great, I just want to get the best Bang for buck, and something that will last. Thoughts?

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Max. I was actually in a similar dilema and for me it came down to the personal preference of a more adventure look, rather than a sensible boxy look. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Although having hard cases gives better protection and more storage I think ( judging by what I see with most of our club riders who all have hard cases). But I can say I'm very happy with the Mosko bags. They've really been banged about and gone through mud and rain and really hold up. Also staying at different hotels when on the road, you just pull them off with one release cord and you're away. Again, my hard box comrades are always faffing about, so that's another plus. I hope that helps.

A bit odd, but there's a reason for it which I'll probably do a video on .. I also have Spotify connected and the sound and cross fade is better with everything just going via my phone But to be honest it's not worth it if you're happy to mount your phone if you need visual too, as I think that would be sufficient for most people. The current debate is that hard cases can trap your feet in a fall, and thus break your legs. It depends on the fall though and the type of case. The square metal cases which were/are still popular, are more prone to this situation. I had Givi curved cases (from 10 years ago) and I can say that at least in one occasion it saved me from being crushed by the bike, I was 60kmh and fell in Peru in an oil slick at a traffic light when a taxi ran the light. My bike slid 20m along the road and I sustained no injuries and the bike and cases were scratched but still rideable. In that situation with soft cases I might have crushed my leg and damaged the computer etc inside. So it's really up to the type of riding you are doing, and what you're carrying. I hope that helps.

      @@troyschultz289 Oh yes very helpful. I was wondering just about the same thing: would hard cases protect me more if I fall (especially that I'm a late beginner)? Now I know they do. Thank you! I'm glad you made it safe!

    Hi Mate, do you recomend the 750 gs for 2 person riding, mostly on road?

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  3 роки тому +1

      It's certainly comfortable for both. My wife comes on a lot of day trips with me and there are no issues. If I was looking for a bike for 2 people for long distances regularly, then I'd probably want big Harley or Honda, personally.

  • @unrealsuperfly
    @unrealsuperfly 3 роки тому +1

    strangely you didn't go for the 850 GS Adventure, since you added racks, protection anyways..Suspension is more comfortable and adjustable on the GSA 850.

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  3 роки тому

      Yep, I maybe should have in hindsight. I do mention that. But at 5'9" I found the seat height just a pinch too high for regular town riding, stop and start etc. But now wonder if that would have been a price worth paying for the many other advantages of having the 850. But adding aftermarket products or replacing stock items is part of owning any bike and what then makes it unique to yourself, I think, often at the disagreement or bewilderment to others. So I'd probably have similar videos posted whatever bike I bought. But yeah, I get how that probably doesn't make sense to some people adding items that come standard with other models. But appreciate the observation and which allowed me the opportunity to explain further. Cheers.

    Great walkaround! That's interesting about the ABS... Makes me think I'll hold only my 2018 f850 a while longer. Can I ask what tank bag that is? One of those bags seems to be a lot heavier than the other, would that be noticeable while riding? Or maybe you'll keep water in the other to counter weight it?

    • @MotoBrit
      @MotoBrit  3 роки тому +1

      It's a Chase Harper USA 409M magnetic bag. I got from Amazon. Lots of other choices, but that one suited me for the shoulder bag conversion. Not everyone will want that. The pannier bags are both 25L and yes, there have been times when I've ridden with one side heavier, but it's not very noticable, only if you sit back and steer with your knees you feel a pull. But most times I do try and keep an equal balance just as good practice.

    After seeing this I might go have another look at the 750… I had the 650(850) GS in Canada, which I loved. Just bought a Z650 but I’m exploring some very sketchy mountains roads in Japan so it’s not quite up for it and longer rides gets uncomfortable. Being just under 5’6 a lot of adventure bikes which suit my purpose, are too tall for me starting and stopping all the time

    Hola mate (I'm Aussie), I rode U.S. to Argentina 10 years ago, and I loved Colombia, I'm jealous (I was on a KLR650, I wish the 850gs was available then, had a mate on a 1200gs and for me it was too heavy). I just want to add though that I agree with the bloody brake pedal position, it drives me nuts, particularly off road. It's way too low for me, like 1cm. I also installed the extender but it doesn't help height. I also haven't found a solution so I'm thinking of getting someone to drill out a piece of metal to put between the extender and the lever to raise it, and put longer screws to accomodate. I don't understand why it's so low, it's bizarre, but I've been on forums and lots of people have the same issue. I guess people get used to it but for me it is something I need to change to feel comfortable. IHappy trails amigo.

I'm not being a smart ass, get the right tyre, having rode Colombia I know the roads get weird, particularly in the mountains when there are land falls and the road gets crudded with soil etc. I damaged my shoulder in fall, I'm telling you this cos I wish I had not been a cheap ass and bought the new tyres cos it sucks.

      Sorry if I'm replying too much, but I loved Colombia, I rode Bogota to Baranquilla, to Cartagena to Medellin to Cali then rode back roads into Ecuador. After I guess 14 countries visited in 1 year of riding, I reckon Colombia was my favourite. The people were super friendly, the riding was beautiful and challenging, from the coast to the mountains it was amazing, and the Chicas were among the most beautiful in the world, and they were at petrol stations filling your tank in tiny shorts. Fun times. I'm jealous!!

      @@troyschultz289 G'day Troy, thanks for all the info, really helpful. Glad to hear it's not just me about the brake pedal. I'll get around to doing something one day, it's just strange. Especially off road like you said. Great tip on the tyres, I've already been off road and it is a bit like riding a snow buggy to be honest, those tyres are practically useless as soon as you leave tarmac. Sorry to hear about your fall, I hope you recover well. We have had some national strikes in Colombia for the last month or so, causing some road blocks. So we've delayed our start until about 15th June. In the meantime, because I was restless and have a 6 month sabbatical to do some bucket-list stuff, I flew to Miami and hired a bike (Honda Shadow, I used to have one years ago) and I'm currently touring Florida for 3 weeks. On week 2 right now and in the Florida Keys having been up the east coast and down the west coast. I'm looking forward to starting the Colombia trip when I get back. I'm in Pereira, the plan is to ride down to Ipiales, then up to Punto Gallina, along the coast cartegena etc, then back down. Let's hope those girls at the gas stations are still in shorts!! Thanks mate, all the best. Ps... I lived in Australia for 3 years. Sydney, then moved up to Brisbane and then the Gold Coast. Also travelled to every town and city between Melbourne and Cairns on a 6 week road trip. Loved it.

      i replaced the pegs with PivotPegs and put them in their lowered position. Doesn't drop them by much, for the leg length, but does make a difference with the break lever height. Puts them about level.
