- The elusive Wedge Mountain is the highest peak in the Garibaldi ranges and therefore also Garibaldi Provincial Park, towering over Whistler and Squamish.
The path to the top is not for the faint of heart though, one should gain 1300 meters of elevation in the beginning of the steep trail just to get to the Wedgemont lake and then the fun starts.
Feeding Wedgemont lake there is the Wedgemont Glacier, full of crevasses and steep in sections. This should be navigated cautiously to avoid steep sections and avoid falling into hidden crevasses.
that comes the boulder field. The trail loses some elevation to get to the beginning of the west ridge and then comes the endless boulder field, full of loose rocks and dirt.
After the arduous task of gaining 800 meters of elevation on the boulder field, the elusive peak shows up in full glory.

My guess is so that they have enough time to make it back down before sunset. It's not a very crowded hike.
