Mass Effect: every elevator conversation

- This is a montage of every single conversation between your squad members that can be heard during the elevator rides on the citadel.
In case anyone is wondering: Making this video, I’ve spent more than 9 hours in total across 2 playthroughs just with riding the elevator.
While doing so I heard pretty much every news on the citadel at least 50 times and definitely lost a part of my sanity in the process.
And it was totally worth it.

I just realised that I still missed one conversation between Garrus and Liara about Garrus' departure from C-Sec.

Garrus with Liara: Polite conversation
Garrus with Tali: *Racism intensifies*
It is understandable. Garrus was immature at the moment and quite the ass towards her people.
Garrus is a workaholic he hardly ever socialized before he joined the Normandy crew so his conversations are always so awkward.
He doesn’t know where to start and what topics to avoid.
Funnily enough, garrus and tali end up together if you don´t romance neither of them.
@@Rogar_Rabalivax"Im just using you for your body 😈" - Tali
Then in ME3, they're fcking
ME1 Kaiden/Ash: “I can’t imagine fighting Shepard!”
ME3 Kaiden/Ash: “oh jeez, oh God, shit!”
they went from "lmao im glad im on their side, they havent hesitated killing anyone who gets in their way, are the first person of their species to get the honor of being a spectre, and was already in n7 before any of this"
to "dont worry guys im a spectre too im sure this will be an even fight"
@@ceoofcomedy3009 "Yo Garrus, watch this one tap."
And that's why I love Wrex.
ME1 Garrus: "That question smacks of impertinence!"
ME3 Garrus: "What, like in a world where Shepard is even close to my level?"
There goes Uncle Urdnot, giving wisdom to the kids
Wrex is crazy wise
I swear they nailed this character
He is the one calling the Normandy being wrecked in ME2
but he still doesnt know about asari biotics?
Wrex predicted The Virmire survivor getting rekt in ME3
And all the while there's Shepard, third-wheeling in his own franchise.
My guy likes to mind his own business and think his own thoughts, I like him for that :D
shep doesnt like elevators
Tali's bouncing is just cuteness overload.
Tali is just cuteness , period .
She just wants to use the shotgun
While playing me1 I always wanted to romance her. I was so happy when in ME2 I could finally
I love these little talks; how awkward and polite some of them are -- and some aren't. How naive some of them are, their point of view dominated by their own cultural bias.
It's also really amusing that Wrex, as the supposed bloodthirsty lunatic, is definitely the wisest of the lot. Comes with his age, of course, but it still works great.
"The genophage is a lot easier to swallow when all krogan are savage monsters, isn't it?"
Wrex was definitely one of the most interesting characters in the franchise. I'm still a bit mad at BioWare for basically dropping him after the first game.
Given that the guy is older than most human nations, it makes sense. He’s like 1,400 years old or something.
That is because Wrex is many centuries old because of history and what they have.
Thw first game always struck me as the crew being adolescents then in ME2 being young adults and in ME3 matured adults, Wrex kept his wisdom.
"Beware of an old man in a profession when men usually die young." This quote is what defines Wrex to the fullest.
F for to pay respect to this mans lost sanity

Savoring every moment of this video...Ashley is so cool and down to earth, Kaidan's calm demeanor, Wrex and his sharp mind and dry humor, Liara totally in character as young scientist, Garrus being blunt, polite and a tech geek, Tali's innocence and sharp tongue....And the entire time Commander Sheperd stares blankly at the elevator button with ears up to eavesdrop. 😂
I actually liked the elevator talks. Also the writers were really smart in the way the handled them by having every character ask a similar question and almost always using the same answer. But it does make the dialogues less interesting after a while.
Shout out to this guy, i dont think id be able to sink 9 hours just to get some short clips, that takes some serious dedication, and a quad the size of a shotgun 😎
These mass effect clips video are insane, they play through the whole game a little differently so a few thousand people on youtube could satisfies their curiosity
Did so much for the immersion
Indeed! I love listening to the squad banter in Mass Effect.
It's kind of a shame that with fast traveling being available now you don't get to see most of those anymore because you hardly ever take the elevators. ME3 references some of them in the Citadel DLC. Turns out Garrus was the only one who liked those conversations.
Don't forget this reference from Mass Effect 2. Probably my favourite. :D
ua-cam.com/video/zNtFeKprtMM/v-deo.html
He’s a young man eager to explore the galaxy in the first game I just love him
Just don’t take the elevators for the true classic experience. I find it a lot more immersive cause of how much of a maze the citadel is. After a bit you know how to get anywhere just from the name.
step 1: go to tallest building you can find
step 2: go in the elevator and press every button that sends you to a different floor
step 3: euphoria
Presented in the order that they are, you can see Garrus go from neutral to mildly contemptuous towards Tali, then realize he's been a dick at the end.
Jesus christ it’s a miracle that Garrus and Tali wind up together if you romance neither of them, he is SUCH an ass to her in ME1 lol
and she shometimes is ass to Garrus too in other games
They are both literally doing the "It's not like I like you or anything, baka!" plan for breaking the ice.
I think the fact that they are constantly in life threatening danger together might foster some respect
He apologizes to her in ME 3 for some of the things he told her in ME 1 you can hear their conversation if you go see Tali randomly between missions.
By ME3, he'd gotten the pole out of his ass and was trying to beat guys to death with it.
Poor Kaiden wouldn't have had a traumatic past if Asari were the ones in charge of Biotic training.
Garrus & Liara are so polite to each other!
Garrus’ favorite part of the game
I love how awkward and tactless Garrus is, it's not like Wrex who's just cuts to the point, he just blunders into social faux pas constantly.
"I hate politics."
We all do, Ash.
Amen to that.
Oh yeah.
"Hello there, welcome to Morlan's famous shop. You want many good supplies, yes?"
"No. Who would win in a fight between you and Sheppard?"
Damn that first Garrus and Wrex one! Thanks so much for enduring all the news repeats for us!
Most of the conversation here are either so formal and polite or have an animosity between them, really shows how little they know each other at the beginning
5:53 Well that didn’t age very well
Well, Wrex was right~ :D
18:40 Wrex, what an absolute Chad
Yes.
Shepard on human characters: I can't wait to get off this elevator.
Shepard on aliens: Aw that elevator ride was too fast!
Ashley and Kaidan absolutely don't hold a candle to my cool alien friends ;)
The alien friends are the best, the humans are just boring to me
Well done, commander. I hope you never hear about Emily Wong or Exogeni ever again, the brutality you suffered was not in vain.
21:20
Lol, Garrus and Shepard being all synchronized
Thanks so much for putting g the time and effort into this ya did. I truly love this community
Garrus is like a fresh faced young man. He sounds foolish how he speaks here but he does apologize for it in later. He’s my favorite for a reason
Wrex is a wise old grump man who we all love ^^
Garrus was the only being that enjoyed all th elevator talks. And Wrex was the best one for them.
Wrex never misses a chance to put Garrus in his place. Wrex is terse with Ashley and Kaidan, a bit more polite with Tali and Liara and downright _brutal_ with Garrus. Guess that's his anger about the Genophage bleeding through.
5:48 Considering they both have 2 possible ways to die by Shepard's hand in the trilogy, especially in ME1, this is kind of funny
I love how Wrex dominates every conversation. Experience means everything.
Those who watched this and didn’t give it a like... I am the vanguard of your destruction.
I love how shepherd just stands there listening
Whenever someone say Ashley is "just racist", point them to this vid
The conversation between Kaiden and Ashley is a spot on depiction between a dumb NCO and a good officer
Kaiden and Tali’s conversations were so nice! I never do anything with Kaiden but I might bring him with me next time
Well thanks for preserving our sanity Commander Shepard !
You're welcome ;)
Thanks! Been looking all over for a nice compilation of all the elevator talk. Your hard work was worth it 👍
Im impressed with your deditcation. Thank you.
Sorry commander but if you survived Akuze your sanity is fine.
Made the trips bearable
I loved the elevator banter. Wish the banter in all mass effects just happened passively when ur in friendly areas. It also always made me mad how the news would sometimes take the place of elevator banter, especially when the news articles repeat the same story.
@28:43 Listening to these keeping the future Garrus/Tali romance in mind is amusing.
Thank you for making this vid!
Thank you for this man man's 🤝
Garrus constantly apologizing to Liara lol
This is an amazing Vid. Thank you for your hard work
My squad doesn't have these conversations, just news and more news.
You will hear news waaaay more often then these conversations, but if you use the elevators often enough, they will get triggered ;)
@@commandershepard5854 Thing is I've been using them a lot, and I just get repeated news all the time, I'm pretty sure they happened more often on the old games. 🤔
@@Agherosh Hmm might be a bug :( But I can confirm that I had this feeling too. While recording for this video I sometimes had 20-30 news in a row without a single conversation. But maybe that's just bad luck.
@@commandershepard5854 and that’s why I always use the elevator even when the fast travel is available
Yeah wish there was a mod that made is so either
1. News and dialogue get checks so they don't repeat
2. Remove all news so you only get character dialogue.
The first one would be nice for a regular playthrough while the second would help in a showcase video like this.
Kaidan getting migraines in the elevator is a great detail.
RIP your sanity! And thank your for your sacrifice! Love the video!
great work, had this pop up in my recommended.
Great work. Replaying the legendary edition, I got very, very few of these interactions. It was nice having it put together so well to relive those sweet moments. Well done.
Thanks bro
Thank you for doing this. Rip your sanity.
ME 2:
garrus: anyione intress in elevator conversation?
tali: i have a shotgun.
Thank you I’ve been looking for an elevator talks completion since the first game premiered! These well written character interaction and development are why I never skipped an elevator ride in ME1
Thank you! I keep getting 2 favorites every playthrough, so I don't hear all the variations of dialogue. Liara and Rex explosion dialogue made me chuckle. I never knew how much friction there were between Garrus and Tali either >.
And if you don’t romance other they end up as lovers too
Thank you for doing the work we all reap from.
Just for your commitment I subscribed and F for your sanity 😅
This video should go down the hall of fame of mass effect treasures! Thank you for these memories and for the sanity you sacrificed 😂🎉.
Thanks, I have only seen like 70% of them)
lol that last part of the vid.
Thank you for your service.
I appreciate this more than you know 🤣
Thank you for your sacrifice
The companions in the first Mass Effect are far more friendly than in Dragon Age: Origins. Most of the squad in that game hate each other’s guts.
and the whole time shepard just zones out.
i like this video because it seems like shepard just likes to listen to the conversations so he keeps pressing random buttons to keep the elevator ride going.
Garrus was kinda a jerk to Tali sometimes in ME1 elevator talks lmao
Amazing!!!
21:20 that synced up shrug though
THANK YOU
I appreciate you.
One minor reason why Mass Effect has such high replayability
Kaidan comes off alot smarter than I give him credit fkr
F to that sanity, commander!
It was a bit more common to hear news than the squadmates talk in the LE compared to the original game. I love the growth these characters go from ME1 to ME3 specially Williams since up to this point she hasn't served with aliens yet was willing to go under Captain Kirrahe command in his diversionary assault on Virmire knowing full well it was a suicide run and in 3 she even has a sister who is an Admiral on the Quarians Migrant Fleet.
Garrus is that naive Cop who wanted to go beyond rules he considered that were stopping him to a Veteran with the maturity that made him realize that some of those rules were that kept people like him from being a Saren.
Liara is the reclusive nerd who grows to be one of the members with the biggest body count by ME3 (both directly and indirectly) and whose friends lead her to mature faster than what the majority of her people did.
Wrex barely changed and with both Bakara and Grunt grew to realize that while the Genophage is a brutal weapon it was something the Krogan got thanks to idiots like his father.
Tali growth was the most noticeable, a shy kid whose only interactions with the galaxy were the stories of her people and the news yet in the first game was always eager to keep to, you know what? Tali was the one who most grew as a character and stayed the same from ME1-ME3 after the many individuals that crossed path. From Shepard support to meeting and crying for a Geth after the only way to make peace between the Geth (Quarian word for servant) and Quarians was to sacrifice himself.
Kaidan well, since he has yet to survive in my playthroughts he is an unknown.
Edit: I forgot to say how Williams views on the Cerberus personnel go from: a group that: killed Rear Admiral Koahuto for asking to much questions, manipulated Shepard (Miranda did said a mind control chip was placed in his mind until TIM talked out of it and TIM lied to Shepard face that Liara was working for the Shadow Broker as his sources said), bread monsters like Jack who turned on them (good that she grew from her pain), almost blew up the a few Quarian ships, and more. If you manage to bring Ashley (LI non cheated) and Vega to rescuing the Cerberus deserters they'll express shock and disgust at seeing an ex Alliance Marine working for Cerberus and helping that group until they hear the words: "We have our families here with us." They both are hesitant to trust them (there was a poison vial tailored for Turians with the ex Cerberus personnel and I would bet that there was more of that) up until they all escape the place which might have left them both starting to see how much grey the galaxy really is beyond the convictions which they grew up with the Alliance.
I completely agree with everything you just said. And concerning Kaidan: You haven't really missed that much - this guy stays pretty bland until the end imo :D
@@commandershepard5854 ok oh, I forgot to say how Williams views on the Cerberus personnel go from: a group that: killed Rear Admiral Koahuto for asking to much questions, manipulated Shepard (Miranda did said a mind control chip was placed in his mind until TIM talked out of it and TIM lied to Shepard face that Liara was working for the Shadow Broker as his sources said), bread monsters like Jack who turned on them (good that she grew from her pain) and more. and For The video creator, Your contribution will be remembered.
I like the way they drive past Calissa over and over again
THANKS COMMANDER
1:49 - Oh Ash, just wait until ME3 and you’ll find out that speed does let them dodge bullets.
Wait what?
It's understandable. She'd never fought a ninja before.
They should have had the elevator conversations in 2
Liara feeling herself at 3:33😭
This basically confirms once again that Wrex is my favorite.
I've played through me1 at least 2 dozen times, I haven't heard half of these
7:16 come the beginning of ME2, turns out Ash was right
Not all hero wear cape, thanks ^^
The juxtaposition between people telling Tali that the fight against Saren would be a benefit for how people see Quarians versus "YoUr PeOpLe MaDe GeTh" will never fail to catch me off-guard
The only fight Wrex isn't down for is a ship-to-ship fight.
30:16 Christ Garrus, chill on the racism.
29:45 is quite something as well. To quote Patrick Bateman, "Cool it with the anti-Semitic remarks".
I don't think the parallel to real-life prejudices is accidental.
What RowBoatCop said. Also, where is Tali’s “And it was totally worth it!” line from?
That's from the end of Mass Effect 2. If you have romanced Tali, you'll get this dialogue: ua-cam.com/video/gh2JbcdIf98/v-deo.html
+when you meet Tali in ME 3 if you romanced her)
You have to compromise her immune system to get it.
Holy crap I never thought the most hostile conversation in the elevator could be between Garrus and Tali.
Props for standing in the elevator for 9 hours, i hope you did it on the PC and not the 360/PS3 cause the wait time is easily double
I love these damn convos, i wish the later games had them too.
Ashley's hand on hip modeling pose looks so awkward and out of character for her honestly.
She always wanted to be pretty, but she was too obsessed with earning respect.
As soon as she got the chance she tattooed on the makeup and let her hair down.
Wow
“I can’t imagine Shepard and I having to fight”
I think they forgot to teach Ash something in basic
Is it just me or would Kaidan and Liara actually make a cute couple?
They're both sweethearts. ME1's squadmates have an internal morality value; there's a bunch of scenes where they'll argue about what choice you should make. From most Paragon to most Renegade, the order is Liara-Kaidan-Tali-Garrus-Ashley-Wrex.
If you take Liara and Kaidan to the final mission, Liara will tell you to save the Council and Kaidan will tell you to focus on Sovereign. If you take Kaidan and Garrus to the final mission, Kaidan will be the one telling you to save them.
If you really want to fuck things up, pick all the xenophobic options when you talk to Kaidan aboard the Normandy and he'll become so based that he'll tell you to kill the Council and _Wrex of all people_ will be forced to tell you to save them.
Turians never had to test their morals in a real struggle, eh, Wrex? How about that time when Krogan almost got Palaven by destroying turian planets with asteroids, and they still stood and fought? I swear I hate it so much when people in-lore and irl make krogan seem like good guys who didn't deserve the Genophage. Dudes were inflicting genocide on multiple species and were destroying countless planets, and yet even wise and smart Wrex has the audacity to talk like that.
To be honest even i like Wrex i dont think genophage was wrong.
@@ladyselin35
Same, mate. And even with the Genophage they could've been fine if they didn't murder each other all the time. Wrex is the only reason I cure the Genophage in ME3. I wish there was an option to like not fully cure it, but lessen the effects
The only thing wrong with the genophage was the stillborn aspect
@@sothasil7716 Salarians didn't realize they could shut the fertility rates without doing that.
Whatever Salarian made the original genophage clearly didn't consider that they could have just altered the Krogan DNA to make them only have one or two eggs at a time and possibly increase the gestation period of said eggs
Edit: No scratch that, they clearly knew what they were doing. The stillborns were a psychological aspect to keep the krogan down. If we have learned anything it is that council kicks their enemies while they're still on the ground instead of helping them back up to be better than before.
The council is anything if not obsessed with their standing and control
This video lasts almost as long as the load times in me1
