Here's a question. How did you manage to take something as simple as halving the damage down (50%) and somehow did 43% instead? Like... not even being rude, I'm genuinely curious how you managed to do that

Also, after watching the video, here's my thoughts, I think, personally, instead of a damage reduction, or reflecting damage like projectiles, it just eats the beam. Much like dva matrix, jav spin, sigma vortex. Just let it eat the beam for the time that deflect runs, but still reflect bullets. However, to make sure it's not busted, also either increase it's cooldown, or, lower it's up time, maybe to 1.5 seconds

top 100ish genji here. as nice as this would be, you can avoid a large portion of the damage with good positioning. The buff I would like is a faster projectile speed to deal with tracers, echo, and speed boosted tiny heroes easier. but at this point I will take anything for my green cyborg ninja dude.

I like everything u said here allowing genji to lose time while deflecting beams is genius and would play out very smooth making u have to think as well, everything u said is good but my only thing is if we change all of his kit he is likely to get mega nerfed in the future
I don't think they would mega nerf him cause i already gave it compensating nerfs, but i'd also be scared Dash is perfectly balanced, shuriken is a bit bad compared to the other dps, they could make the Blade attack speed an entire second it wouldn't matter if we had decent damage to kill squishies
@@Reager See idk if they would but they have a track record it’s like when they reverted his ammo size change. IMO that made him way worse, my biggest fear is that they are gonna make him playable then mega nerf him to where he is worse than he was before.
Idk about decreasing the speed it kinda takes away from increasing damage. It not a buff just a rebalance or adjustment. You fucked it up by decreasing the speed genji would overall be outputing less damage since he is doing it slower the other character now has 0.15 more to heal from the attack best to simply either buff the speed or buff the damage if you wanna increase lethality without over tuning it
See I would agree most of the time these beams are avoidable but with morias range it can led to sum situation where the reduction could have saved u. Also the thing about the damage I feel like his damage is pretty consistent and if we buff his numbers blizzard is likely to come back Gigga nerf him in the future.

Buffing his deflect isn’t going to help me secure kills only save me in a handful of scenarios. If genji just had more consistent damage so I could secure the kill I wouldn’t NEED a buffed deflect.

That is part of a larger issue the issue of the larger and larger amounts of healing blizzard has put into this game and characters with way to many ways to escape. If u dive someone with blade and the get Suzu’d ur whole deflect is ruined. But changing his damage numbers will only put a band aid on a larger issue that I can’t really give a solution too.
In my opinion, genji’s blade just needs a buff. Make it 125per swing making it 2 shots for 250hp target, 3 swings for 300, and 4 swings for 350+. This way it takes less time to kill making genji easier to get kills with blade. 200hp less it takes swing dash, instead of swing swing.
I like this approach, and in the same vein: Brig shield should stun again, 5 second duration, a little conservative compared to the 10 sec she needs, but still very balanced. Have 2000 shield and 600 hp. And ofc she remains in the support category.
Why would she need a stun? Hard stuns are annoying to deal with abs as. Brig main I don't think she needs it. Bash is fine for mobility. What I'd personally like to see is the mirrorwatch change where jer shield could set people on fire. Just to make bash more incentivized to hit people.
I swear i remember a blizzard blogpost where they said they were looking towards dmg mitigating skills getting less dmg from beams so things like doom or ram block, and maybe genji could be on that list, not confirm but lets have faith
3 of these beams don't have a single damage value: - Echo's focusing beam deals 50 dps if the target is above 50% maximum hp, and 175 dps if the target is below or equal to 50% maximum hp. - Symmetra's photon projector primary fire deals 60/120/180 dps based on how long the target is being damaged by the beam. - Zarya's particle cannon primary fire deals 95 dps on 0 energy and 190 dps on 100 energy.
Yes I know this but from what I saw echos beam never got genji below half in 2 seconds, and for simplicity sake I tested zarya with 0 charge so the numbers are different depending on how much charge she has. Symettra is prolly the most complicated of them all but for calculating her i simplified it to the amount of damage she did during the 2 second window divided by 2 to get her damage per second. So yes these characters would have different numbers depending on different situations.
I'm gonna be honest, I'm a genji main and this is not viable. There needs to be counters to characters. You need to learn how to play against your counters, keep distance, good positioning. etc etc. Without a counter genji will be the strongest dps.
So I understand this argument but this would not remove his counters but would allow for him to have an easier time against them. I don’t have too much trouble but u can have up to 5 on a team at once so this is something that can help keep this game from being counterwatch more counter play

i really think genji should be buffed to better counter the heroes he should ACTUALLY counter, this buff would basically just make him “okay” against everything

I think genji is in a good spot He has a lot of value by being super self sustaining and mobile he doesn't get kills but he's able to sort of always have a presence/utility which is pretty unique I don't think anyone has the same combo of high survivability, long range poke, strong burst, high mobility, PLUS tanking/peel ability This means he can place himself anywhere and be a nuisance, and he can drain the enemy's resources super hard, or apply pressure to weakzones in the enemy comp Genji can bait out any ult and ability in the game by pulling out blade, which doesn't seem like a lot but overwatch nowadays has so many broken cooldowns that baiting/tanking them is insane value for your team All of this combined with actual kill power would be frustrating and broken. As we all know the feeling of a ball or doom flying in to kill our supports and get out scot free so, genji will always be a pain to play because making him fun to play would make him broken and hated that being said though shuriken damage buffed by any amount would be so nice because widow kills would be so much easier (one less shuriken) and damage boosted targets would be amazing (one less shuriken) i love two shotting anyone easily at dash range
I feel is isn’t in a terrible spot but he needs something for sure he defiantly still gets value and gets kills and can dominate the battle field. But yeah I think if they buff him too much he would be busted.
Tbf i think every hero needs their counters, although i feel like the way beams counter genji can be overwhelming sometimes. But i agree that genji should get a buff in general though. I'm more in favor of buffing his ult(either speed or damage). Rn even with nanoboost you still need a dash and two hits to kill a squishy.
My main issue with Beam character's as genji isn't the fact that the beam ignores / invalidates his deflect, its more of the fact that even if you swift strike away or try to loose line of sight with them there would be a sec delay to where that beam dmg would still tick even though what it was tracking is no longer in sight "cough cough" moira.
Yes this happens to me all the time, or I will dash back into my team and deflect and still die to Moria the only way I think u could fix the delay of dash is a frame of invincibility but that’s a bit too much and wouldn’t play out right
If i am sincere i think the future for genji is uncertain, because with the rework that they did to the life of many fast herores like sombra or juno or others it does not apply to this one, then blizzard will leave it as it is or will do something. I enjoyed the video btw! good editing
Okay, let's bring back the frozen mei then to be fair. p.s the nerfs of mobile characters did not affect Genji, he still has the Mercy, Zarya, Divas pockets, now he has many ways to survive.
That makes no since, and would make genji way worse. The reason to add the reduction to the beams is to give him more chance of survival when facing his counters
@@sirpenguin_27 honestly I'd rather learn to play smarter than have a crutch damage reduction vs my counters. Some heroes like D.Va or Sigma learn to use their other abilities to help them avoid damage (instead of defense matrix or Sigma suck). Genji has double jump and wall climb to help avoid damage from beams.
@@Teban100 see I’m not saying it is impossible it is actually not a giant issue but it would be a great thing to have as genji especially to be able to outplay his counters in certain situations. I don’t believe it should be a crutch or a button that u can press to keep from dying jus a button that can help u get away for example let’s say Moria is tracking u but u can double jump to sum height so u do but u die, if u had damage reduction during deflect u could’ve deflect and possibly survived it can make for some interesting gameplay mechanics
My friend has been saying this for a while. Whay can't he just angle his sword slightly to perfectly deflect the beams? That's how it works irl, so it makes sincs to work in game.
If Genji gets a damage reduction during reflect, wouldn't he also get a damage reduction from explosions too like Junkrat's mine, Ana's nade or Bastion's bomb? And what about ultimates like dva or moira? Normally, when they make changes, it's usually general changes. I don't think they would specify beams as specific attack property. As it stands, anything that is considered a projectile is deflected and anything that isn't goes through. I do like the damage reduction, I just don't know if they'd specify attack properties specifically for Genji. Maybe they could buff his movement options such as an extra blade or increase his lethality in his ult by increasing attack speed and damage.
I do agree I don’t really think this change is realistic in the aspect that it could get added but more so that it wouldn’t be unbalanced change. I didn’t specify explosives, Ana’s nade or sigmas rock because I feel those are easier to play around and are more u getting punished for being out of position but beams mainly Moria can punish u a majority of the time unless they already lost the team fight. The thing is if they add a second dash that would be insanely broken and genji would be way too strong. But with blade it could use a buff maybe a slight movement speed increase or damage increase but my fear is blizzard mega nerfing him in the future if that were to happen.
See I don’t play dva so I don’t really know how that would play out but it is a good idea to apply it to other similar ability’s like Orisa’s spin, defense matrix and more. But I don’t know if it should apply to zarya
This buff is irrelevant. Yeah it would make it so you don't die less to annoying characters he can't deflect but this is not the reason the hero is trash. The hero is trash bc he has no damage, every other dps in the game has better kill pressure that genji lacks completely. He can't kill anything with regular blade anymore bc it does so little damage, his shurikens also do the least amount of damage they have ever done and you can't kill anything. The biggest factor for this is the stupid copious amounts of healing in this game, where supports are allowed to just heal up regularly over time for some reason, that takes away so much skill from them it's crazy bc you don't even remotely have to think about using your utility to survive. You can just run to your team if your mispositioned or just hide and wait for your health to come back. Completely brain dead!
I don’t disagree his shurikens definitely need to be buff blade maybe blade is good as long as u watch enemy abilities and watch surroundings. I wanted to cover a more creative way to buff him and I fear that if blizzard messed with his shuriken damage they would mega buff it they mega nerf it to worse than it was before.
Honestly I would like to see blade either go back to 120 or up to 125 but like either no or reduced like damage boost effects. I get blade shouldn't be able to kill the whole team (I do think that isn't good for the game) but blade just does not feel good to use at all rn. I just want something for it. I do like this change though it would be interesting to see how blizzard would make this work but I would be happy if this happened though you probably wouldn't need this but would be nice
My thoughts with this change is a slight buff to make him potentially better, and with blade the reason it feels so bad is because u have to time it nearly perfectly to even get one kill Because if not the Enemy get saved with invincibility/ healbotted or jus escapes with and ability so u have to use blade in very weird situations now

this game doesn't need more damage reduction. also, part of the skill is obviously knowing what your matchups are. you can't deflect in the frontline against zarya. although quad beam is a problem
"Knowing what your matchups are" Issue is When you have a cooldown cycle that works very well and has a lot of options regardless of matchup UNTIL a beam character is involved, and then you're basically forced to dash out every time you do a lot of damage or take alot of damage. In some situations deflect would allow you to squeeze out more value. But against beams you're limited. And tbh this was kind of fine. UNTIL we started getting characters like sojourn/brig/echo/ kiriko etc. That have abilities and damage that can function optimally in almost every situation against every character. It's just extremely inconsistent character design. And that brings up a whole other bucket of questions and issues.
the problem is that most of the times that I want to play as Genji, there are 2-3 beams on the enemy team, so I end up never playing him, this is my personal problem
He doesn't need it urgently, and I think it's even more so because of the indirect buff nerfing the life of kiri, juno and other heroes, but a change would be nice, the shurikens are not very good.
this is a good idea until you realize that a good healer would heal that genji making someone who counter picked the genji seem more like its an even fight rather than an uneven one from a counter.
It would have to be tested and find a good amount of reduction, but he is still countered because he is still taking damage during the deflect this allows for him to have counter play to his counters not counterwatch. Also he would still be vulnerable when his cooldown are down or if he messes up a dash reset or gets slept stun there are still plenty of ways to stop him.

See I don’t wish for this to remove his counter just a low enough percentage to help out in certain situations. Blade has a lot of issues the main thing isn’t really that it does nothing more so everybody can escape it or get out of it somehow via healing or invincibility. His shurikens to me are fine or maybe a lil underpowered but I think messing with his shurkens won’t help because blizzard will come along and mega nerf him later on his blade tho yeah idk I jus suggest trying to watch for people without escape ability’s then popping blade it’s all about very specific timing right now

They should just get rid of invincibilities, add more damage to blade and bit by bit to shurikens until it works well and we're done, i like your idea, heck i'd want anything if it means that Blizzard would stop neglecting him but i feel that this would just be a bandaid to the issue, might be unfair to others with heavy counters and even add to the problem of passives, like not doing the damage you expect on something because they happen to be a tank .-. but we'll see, after all Blizzard is going to do whatever anyways, so we can only discuss it.

200H genji here, no this change is bad. Genji was designed powerful yet he was kept back by his counters, thats always what kept him in check. If we aplay this there are 2 bad things. Yes you said that the beam damage can be the edge of living and dying. But how mad would you be that his E-kitten came back in time, not to mention suzu. thats the 1st problem. The 2nd one is echo, echo was designed with her combo. Stickies and beam. All the genji needs to do is the press E. I understand he is the worst DPS but all he realy needs, is to have the HP bars reverted
This would not be the worst change because he is still venerable because his dash could be on cooldown or his deflect could be down so he is cooked. So u would still have to play him the same but like with the echo combo it could just not apply to her beam because it’s really not an issue. This jus allows for a lil increase in survivability
no i dont like this, in my opinion they should increase dmg of blade to 155 and if he turns out too strong (probably not), increase cooldown of deflect to 11 seconds
I feel that tho anytime I jump someone and pop blade they can always get away, blade has become a way harder ult to pull off but I kinda off like that u have to think about the enemy’s ability’s have a good opportunity and if ur team is with u blade ain’t to bad.
Wouldn’t you rather they just buff his numbers over making his counters not work anymore? All characters should have counters like that. As genji you can usually just run away anyway and if not you can try and kill them.
I understand this view point, this argument is more so to make his counters less strong. So obviously it wouldn’t need to be a high percentage but even a lil would be very helpful especially in situations were u are deflecting a lot of oncoming damage but dying to a Zarya/or any other counter this could help u play around them imo

@@sirpenguin_27 Imo they are already soft counters. Your deflect doesn't counter beams but you will literally never die to a beam if you are positioned somewhere you can wall climb or dash away. Mei is damaging you? Why encourage and reward the low skill play of pressing deflect, when there is already the option to wall climb away and have 100% damage reduction because she can't reach you. Simply buffing his numbers would help him play against his counters too, and actually make him feel better in the meta against other characters too. The biggest problem with genji is the new hp bars and the armor buffs/raid boss tanks imo, this change would not help his problems at all against the actual things that make him bad. just help bad genjis be less punished when they are literally making mistakes. this is what I never understand about the genji changes, you all are just trying to turn him into another brainless low skill char like moira. He literally already has counter play against every single beam character it just takes a brain instead of pressing a button to turn off another character. I just don't see the point, and giving charaters more abilities like orisa fortify is just awful anti skill game design. Like this change would take a high skill character and turn him into another brain off press one skill any time I make a mistake and I can't die character. Just buff his numbers, it helps him against the new 250 hp, it helps him against the armor buffs, it can help dragonblade if they buff the numbers to need 2 hits to kill instead of 3. It still helps him against all those beam characters too because he can kill them and a good genji already has counterplay (the beams are limited by range and genji has more mobility than basically all of the beam characters)

This would definitely not make genji a mindless hero it just allows for counter play and can allow for his deflect to become more useful.
The one issue I see is blizzard and their horrible coding would screw this up in some way and it'd be active 24/7. The one change I'd suggest to yours if we are going to give genji damage reduction is make it exist at the angle of his deflect only. If it was just a 360 damage reduction all around genjis would use this in very creative ways like looking backwards while deflecting for an easier push to gain the distance needed for that 15m dash. I have about 600 hours on genji between my accounts, I would say this isn't a bad idea but I don't think it would ever happen sadly as it would make genji a meta pick again and blizzard hates genji. I'm just hoping for a very slight damage buff to his shuriken. A 1-2 more damage is all id want for the tankier of the DPS lineup as it would make those matchups slightly easier
Thanks for ur critique and yeah i never stated in the video but it would stay in the range of his deflect, I don’t know what percent would be the best I’m just throwing out the idea so others can mess around and see if they like it and potentially blizzard likes it and figured out a more realistic reduction rate.

As interesting as this sounds its seriously not a good idea to add counter play to the counter play those characters can go through every kind of absorb or deflect thats what makes their weapons unique so it doesn't feel right to now add counters to the thing that makes their weapon unique and especially just for genji
Idk I think having counters being strong against who they counter is great but being to the point where u cant play them is not fun so counter play is completely fair.
It’s crazy anyone is disagreeing with you. This is one of the biggest ways to fix counterwatch on characters like genji and dva. Beam weapons piercing is for brainrotted players who wanna win from a simple swap, anyone who defends beam pierce is most likely a hypocrite, as they complain when someone swaps against them. This comment section is filled with bronze overwatch players who can’t handle a genji without swapping to Moira.

@@sirpenguin_27 these characters aren't hard counters. In all this math you've done it's assuming that the genji isn't moving or the beam characters have perfect tracking. If you're deflecting and they have a beam character on their team all that means is you have to keep dodging the beam or cancel the deflect and fight back. All the beams have a limited range and they have the task of fighting one of the most mobile characters in the game. Just reposition out of their range
I mean it’s still fun to play genji but if u haven’t played him consistently for the last imo 2-4 years than it’s not even worth trying to learn him because it’s such a struggle. But over the years playing him consistently u can adapt to changes in play-style slower instead of all at once. I would say if u can play him he is super fun and worth but the time to learn him is a lot more now.
Okay well I don’t think anyone wants this game to be counter swap I think we would much rather it be counter play. And no one is crying that they can’t sit and play genji 24/7 I have adapted to play against every counter I’m jus suggesting something that would be a help to give a chance for more counter play options. Obviously if u can’t play against ur counters swap but if it’s working it’s fine.
Counterplay to deflect is actually a fair feature and adds a skill matchup to Genji. It can be outplayed and you can avoid the beams with proper positioning and timing. I think addressing Genji’s more glaring issues is the way to go, like his low burst damage potential compared to other dps or his ult being cheeks without nano. Although a buff is a buff so I wouldn’t complain either way 😂

Yeah projectile speed would definitely be the most impactful buff, and crucially it doesn't break genji in lower ranks.

Idk about decreasing the speed it kinda takes away from increasing damage. It not a buff just a rebalance or adjustment. You fucked it up by decreasing the speed genji would overall be outputing less damage since he is doing it slower the other character now has 0.15 more to heal from the attack best to simply either buff the speed or buff the damage if you wanna increase lethality without over tuning it

In my opinion, genji’s blade just needs a buff. Make it 125per swing making it 2 shots for 250hp target, 3 swings for 300, and 4 swings for 350+. This way it takes less time to kill making genji easier to get kills with blade. 200hp less it takes swing dash, instead of swing swing.

Brig shield should stun again, 5 second duration, a little conservative compared to the 10 sec she needs, but still very balanced.
Have 2000 shield and 600 hp.

Why would she need a stun? Hard stuns are annoying to deal with abs as. Brig main I don't think she needs it. Bash is fine for mobility. What I'd personally like to see is the mirrorwatch change where jer shield could set people on fire. Just to make bash more incentivized to hit people.

I swear i remember a blizzard blogpost where they said they were looking towards dmg mitigating skills getting less dmg from beams so things like doom or ram block, and maybe genji could be on that list, not confirm but lets have faith

3 of these beams don't have a single damage value:
- Echo's focusing beam deals 50 dps if the target is above 50% maximum hp, and 175 dps if the target is below or equal to 50% maximum hp.
- Symmetra's photon projector primary fire deals 60/120/180 dps based on how long the target is being damaged by the beam.
- Zarya's particle cannon primary fire deals 95 dps on 0 energy and 190 dps on 100 energy.
Yes I know this but from what I saw echos beam never got genji below half in 2 seconds, and for simplicity sake I tested zarya with 0 charge so the numbers are different depending on how much charge she has. Symettra is prolly the most complicated of them all but for calculating her i simplified it to the amount of damage she did during the 2 second window divided by 2 to get her damage per second. So yes these characters would have different numbers depending on different situations.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm a genji main and this is not viable. There needs to be counters to characters. You need to learn how to play against your counters, keep distance, good positioning. etc etc. Without a counter genji will be the strongest dps.
So I understand this argument but this would not remove his counters but would allow for him to have an easier time against them. I don’t have too much trouble but u can have up to 5 on a team at once so this is something that can help keep this game from being counterwatch more counter play

I think genji is in a good spot
He has a lot of value by being super self sustaining and mobile
he doesn't get kills
but he's able to sort of always have a presence/utility which is pretty unique
I don't think anyone has the same combo of high survivability, long range poke, strong burst, high mobility, PLUS tanking/peel ability
This means he can place himself anywhere and be a nuisance, and he can drain the enemy's resources super hard, or apply pressure to weakzones in the enemy comp
Genji can bait out any ult and ability in the game by pulling out blade, which doesn't seem like a lot
but overwatch nowadays has so many broken cooldowns that baiting/tanking them is insane value for your team
All of this combined with actual kill power would be frustrating and broken.
As we all know the feeling of a ball or doom flying in to kill our supports and get out scot free
so, genji will always be a pain to play because making him fun to play would make him broken and hated
that being said though shuriken damage buffed by any amount would be so nice
because widow kills would be so much easier (one less shuriken) and damage boosted targets would be amazing (one less shuriken)

My main issue with Beam character's as genji isn't the fact that the beam ignores / invalidates his deflect, its more of the fact that even if you swift strike away or try to loose line of sight with them there would be a sec delay to where that beam dmg would still tick even though what it was tracking is no longer in sight "cough cough" moira.
Yes this happens to me all the time, or I will dash back into my team and deflect and still die to Moria the only way I think u could fix the delay of dash is a frame of invincibility but that’s a bit too much and wouldn’t play out right

I feel like a trade off would be that deflect doesn't fully block projectiles or hitscan anymore either, it would also apply the damage reduction.
That makes no since, and would make genji way worse. The reason to add the reduction to the beams is to give him more chance of survival when facing his counters

Some heroes like D.Va or Sigma learn to use their other abilities to help them avoid damage (instead of defense matrix or Sigma suck). Genji has double jump and wall climb to help avoid damage from beams.

Normally, when they make changes, it's usually general changes. I don't think they would specify beams as specific attack property. As it stands, anything that is considered a projectile is deflected and anything that isn't goes through.
I do like the damage reduction, I just don't know if they'd specify attack properties specifically for Genji. Maybe they could buff his movement options such as an extra blade or increase his lethality in his ult by increasing attack speed and damage.
I do agree I don’t really think this change is realistic in the aspect that it could get added but more so that it wouldn’t be unbalanced change. I didn’t specify explosives, Ana’s nade or sigmas rock because I feel those are easier to play around and are more u getting punished for being out of position but beams mainly Moria can punish u a majority of the time unless they already lost the team fight. The thing is if they add a second dash that would be insanely broken and genji would be way too strong. But with blade it could use a buff maybe a slight movement speed increase or damage increase but my fear is blizzard mega nerfing him in the future if that were to happen.

This buff is irrelevant. Yeah it would make it so you don't die less to annoying characters he can't deflect but this is not the reason the hero is trash. The hero is trash bc he has no damage, every other dps in the game has better kill pressure that genji lacks completely. He can't kill anything with regular blade anymore bc it does so little damage, his shurikens also do the least amount of damage they have ever done and you can't kill anything. The biggest factor for this is the stupid copious amounts of healing in this game, where supports are allowed to just heal up regularly over time for some reason, that takes away so much skill from them it's crazy bc you don't even remotely have to think about using your utility to survive. You can just run to your team if your mispositioned or just hide and wait for your health to come back. Completely brain dead!
I don’t disagree his shurikens definitely need to be buff blade maybe blade is good as long as u watch enemy abilities and watch surroundings. I wanted to cover a more creative way to buff him and I fear that if blizzard messed with his shuriken damage they would mega buff it they mega nerf it to worse than it was before.

I get blade shouldn't be able to kill the whole team (I do think that isn't good for the game) but blade just does not feel good to use at all rn. I just want something for it. My thoughts with this change is a slight buff to make him potentially better, and with blade the reason it feels so bad is because u have to time it nearly perfectly to even get one kill

Ik the matchups the point is to add a slight bit more counter play to these characters as genji, yes quad beam is a big issue.

Issue is When you have a cooldown cycle that works very well and has a lot of options regardless of matchup UNTIL a beam character is involved, and then you're basically forced to dash out every time you do a lot of damage or take alot of damage. In some situations deflect would allow you to squeeze out more value. But against beams you're limited. And tbh this was kind of fine. UNTIL we started getting characters like sojourn/brig/echo/ kiriko etc. That have abilities and damage that can function optimally in almost every situation against every character.
It's just extremely inconsistent character design. And that brings up a whole other bucket of questions and issues.
the problem is that most of the times that I want to play as Genji, there are 2-3 beams on the enemy team, so I end up never playing him, this is my personal problem

this is a good idea until you realize that a good healer would heal that genji making someone who counter picked the genji seem more like its an even fight rather than an uneven one from a counter.
It would have to be tested and find a good amount of reduction, but he is still countered because he is still taking damage during the deflect this allows for him to have counter play to his counters not counterwatch. Also he would still be vulnerable when his cooldown are down or if he messes up a dash reset or gets slept stun there are still plenty of ways to stop him.

See I don’t wish for this to remove his counter just a low enough percentage to help out in certain situations. Blade has a lot of issues the main thing isn’t really that it does nothing more so everybody can escape it or get out of it somehow via healing or invincibility. His shurikens to me are fine or maybe a lil underpowered but I think messing with his shurkens won’t help because blizzard will come along and mega nerf him later on his blade tho yeah idk I jus suggest trying to watch for people without escape ability’s then popping blade it’s all about very specific timing right now

200H genji here, no this change is bad. Genji was designed powerful yet he was kept back by his counters, thats always what kept him in check. If we aplay this there are 2 bad things. Yes you said that the beam damage can be the edge of living and dying. But how mad would you be that his E-kitten came back in time, not to mention suzu. thats the 1st problem. The 2nd one is echo, echo was designed with her combo. Stickies and beam. All the genji needs to do is the press E. I understand he is the worst DPS but all he realy needs, is to have the HP bars reverted
This would not be the worst change because he is still venerable because his dash could be on cooldown or his deflect could be down so he is cooked. So u would still have to play him the same but like with the echo combo it could just not apply to her beam because it’s really not an issue. This jus allows for a lil increase in survivability

I understand this view point, this argument is more so to make his counters less strong. So obviously it wouldn’t need to be a high percentage but even a lil would be very helpful especially in situations were u are deflecting a lot of oncoming damage but dying to a Zarya/or any other counter this could help u play around them imo

@@sirpenguin_27 Imo they are already soft counters. Your deflect doesn't counter beams but you will literally never die to a beam if you are positioned somewhere you can wall climb or dash away. Mei is damaging you? Why encourage and reward the low skill play of pressing deflect, when there is already the option to wall climb away and have 100% damage reduction because she can't reach you. Simply buffing his numbers would help him play against his counters too, and actually make him feel better in the meta against other characters too. The biggest problem with genji is the new hp bars and the armor buffs/raid boss tanks imo, this change would not help his problems at all against the actual things that make him bad. just help bad genjis be less punished when they are literally making mistakes. this is what I never understand about the genji changes, you all are just trying to turn him into another brainless low skill char like moira. He literally already has counter play against every single beam character it just takes a brain instead of pressing a button to turn off another character. I just don't see the point, and giving charaters more abilities like orisa fortify is just awful anti skill game design. Like this change would take a high skill character and turn him into another brain off press one skill any time I make a mistake and I can't die character. Just buff his numbers, it helps him against the new 250 hp, it helps him against the armor buffs, it can help dragonblade if they buff the numbers to need 2 hits to kill instead of 3. It still helps him against all those beam characters too because he can kill them and a good genji already has counterplay (the beams are limited by range and genji has more mobility than basically all of the beam characters)

The one issue I see is blizzard and their horrible coding would screw this up in some way and it'd be active 24/7. The one change I'd suggest to yours if we are going to give genji damage reduction is make it exist at the angle of his deflect only. If it was just a 360 damage reduction all around genjis would use this in very creative ways like looking backwards while deflecting for an easier push to gain the distance needed for that 15m dash. I have about 600 hours on genji between my accounts, I would say this isn't a bad idea but I don't think it would ever happen sadly as it would make genji a meta pick again and blizzard hates genji. I'm just hoping for a very slight damage buff to his shuriken. A 1-2 more damage is all id want for the tankier of the DPS lineup as it would make those matchups slightly easier

Beam weapons piercing is for brainrotted players who wanna win from a simple swap, anyone who defends beam pierce is most likely a hypocrite, as they complain when someone swaps against them. @@sirpenguin_27 these characters aren't hard counters. In all this math you've done it's assuming that the genji isn't moving or the beam characters have perfect tracking. If you're deflecting and they have a beam character on their team all that means is you have to keep dodging the beam or cancel the deflect and fight back. All the beams have a limited range and they have the task of fighting one of the most mobile characters in the game. Just reposition out of their range

I mean it’s still fun to play genji but if u haven’t played him consistently for the last imo 2-4 years than it’s not even worth trying to learn him because it’s such a struggle. But over the years playing him consistently u can adapt to changes in play-style slower instead of all at once. I would say if u can play him he is super fun and worth but the time to learn him is a lot more now.

Okay well I don’t think anyone wants this game to be counter swap I think we would much rather it be counter play. And no one is crying that they can’t sit and play genji 24/7 I have adapted to play against every counter I’m jus suggesting something that would be a help to give a chance for more counter play options. Obviously if u can’t play against ur counters swap but if it’s working it’s fine.
Counterplay to deflect is actually a fair feature and adds a skill matchup to Genji. It can be outplayed and you can avoid the beams with proper positioning and timing. I think addressing Genji’s more glaring issues is the way to go, like his low burst damage potential compared to other dps or his ult being cheeks without nano.
Although a buff is a buff so I wouldn’t complain either way 😂
