@@Benji94701 how do you know that, though? ya'll just claim a character must surely have been made all for or mostly just for DEI, but that's just an assumption. one that damn near always gets made when brown/black/queer characters get added to some media. it's not strictly impossible that Venture was added partially out of interest to appeal to diversity -- in fact I think that did play a part in their creation. but i feel like even if Venture was super well integrated into the lore and had a lot of skins ppl would still be like "oh the DEI character" just because they're nonbinary. seems questionable

@@BlacIyc Femme fatale is an archetype of a character that uses her femininity, erotic nature and sex appeal to dominate people and take control of the situation to get what they want or to be stronger and come on-top, Widowmaker is definitely that type of character, one example is that highlight intro where she blows you a kiss then knocks you to the ground It makes sense why she's a curvy character that has a more sensual and enticing design, this is a character that makes sense to be sexualized in a way (even if some people can argue that it isn't right to objectify women) But Juno is a bubbly space ranger who's a goofball interested in exploring Earth, her movements and animation indicate that she's very floaty with her body, possibly due to her hoverboots (Like how Lucio slides around the place due to his skates) So why exactly is her spacesuit skin tight? Why are people so scared or afraid to talk about the sexualization of characters nowadays? Overwatch literally got the most of its fanbase, due to the sexy girls and cool looking men
The concept of making a miner skin for Venture is RIGHT THERE. Give them a hard hat, put soot on their face, and a pickaxe on their coat. Boom- a skin that works with the drill, and would be super easy to implement.
I think another big reason why certain characters receive more attention and love than others is the gameplay and role. Most Mercy and Kiriko mains are going to spend the big bucks on getting the latest new skins because not only do they look "cute" but also because they are most likely going to play those characters. Support does not have much variety compared to the DPS role in which Venture kind of fills out a niche role in that category. It also does not help that Venture isn't exactly a fun character to fight against and that they probably have a low pick rate. Most support mains are going to naturally gravitate towards Juno because it's another "cute" healer that they can expand too.
nah man, i want a fucking MALE SUPPORT to release. Like, don't get me wrong, I love baptiste, have a lot of fun on Lúcio and I dabble a fair enough amount on Lifeweaver. (not counting Zen bc my boy has balls but no...well he's an omnic. lol) and apart from those guys, i love playing ana and moira. So blizzard better give me a new female support that isn't a nuisance (kiriko's annoying as fuck in game) or under 30 (I don't like mercy, for the record), or they give me my juicy sexy male support. (if they finna sexualize a literal child, might as well sexualize an age appropriate man)
Just wanted to add my lil tidbit in here, but I do geniunely believe it's due to blizzard being scared to make any skins for them due to their gender identity, I mean if you put them in a dress or a suit people are just gotta be like "oh he's a he"/"she's a she" because of a/b skin, or even misrepresenting nonbinaries with skins (silly I know but eggshells are usually want companies stand on with these kinds of things.) D:
Suits for women exist such as what they did with the Queen mob boss skin. Venture is an archeologist so they could do a lot of archeology inspired outfits which have always been very gender neutral. Or pick a theme like ancient Sumer or maybe Egyptian which allow for more creativity. Plenty of options Blizzard could go with. I don't believe Blizzard is that creatively bankrupt they didn't consider these things. It's more likely that Venture is simply not popular as other characters which is why she gets no skins. Especially with how bloated the hero pool is.
I don't think that's necessarily true because of having a non binary person in the game was going to be difficult why would they even make her non binary in the first place? They put themselves in that situation knowing what would be of it. Also I don't think making a skin for venture is really an issue with people thinking they're a she or he because at the end of the day it's a fake character a clump a pixels who tf cares if someone misgenders them im not trying to mean this in a hurtful way but really what is the harm of misgendering lines of codes in a videogame. I think the issue is she is such a horribly design character she is an archeologist and non binary that's it nothing else is really common info about her which is the blandest thing ever it's like if they re released tracer but the only thing known about her is that she is a lesbian and British. You need actual lore for people to get on board Juno + mauga have lore with their characters so that's why they're looked at and played more than venture.
If that is their logic, then frankly Blizzard is stupid. The whole point of attention seeking calling yourself non-binary is to loudly state you don't give a shit about the binary nature of gender. Nevermind the fact more women label themselves this than men ... But it opens Venture up for more skins, not less.
But by this logic what is the point of Ventures design? decent default look but completely unskinnable. seems like s stupid design choice if Blizzard can't even squeeze a skin out for it.
FYI, Jet Black, from Cowboy BeBop, was called "Black Dog", because once he got his teeth in, he didn't let go, which works with Mauga since they both get tunnel vision when doing what they like, also Mauga is very smart as well.
I actually hard disagree with 11:10. I DO think venture being non-binary does play a big role in them not getting skins, and this is coming from someone who likes Venture. 1. Venture being non-binary means it's difficult to give them skins that isn't covering their entire body. I believe Venture was created to be gender-ambigious. And because of that, I think Blizzard has to design skins for them that have them covered up. Multiple layers of clothing = more complex designs = more development time, Which could have been used on another character. 2. Venture being non-binary will inherently make their playerbase smaller. It's unfortunate but some people will not play them, or buy their skins because of it. 3. Like you said, the 'attractive' appeal of them is heavily subjective but I think Blizzard trying to have that 'ambiguous gender' design (because they are non-binary) will inherently mean that only a small amount of people will like their design. This is not meant as non-binary hate or anything, but I strongly believe that Venture being non-binary limits both their audience and their design for the skin makers.
this is like saying bastion cant get skins (because his transformations make it hard to make skins for), and even if it was harder to design good skins for them they would still get skins. Also people dont care about a heros identity at all, if they did no one would play soldier or tracer, and its not like people dont play heros that dont represent themselves, men play ashe a lot, and women play liveweaver a lot. The reason venture is less popular is because there kit design is not for everyone, it was the same with doomfist in ow1, doom had similar pick rates.
@@Rando3210 Well sadly there is hate for Venture, TDO even mentioned it at 11:13 that there is a lot of hate for them, except he believes that doesn't affect skins, but I do. Bastion is a very angular robot, with tons of room for cosmetics, not really comparable in this scenario. And sure, people probably dont care about a hero's identity, thats why you still see people call Cassidy, Mcree. Or call Venture a She instead of Them. What people do have greater control over is how they spend their money. And I think Blizzard knows people would rather spend their money on a popular hero like Kiriko, than a niche NB character like Venture. Sad, but probably true.
@@gusronalds7484 him saying something is not proof of hate, i have heard literally heard no one inside the community care about them being non binary once, not saying there isnt any but its not any more than than the hate towards lesbians or something. Plus even if there was hate, most the community doesnt care and would still buy skins for them. Its obvious the reason venture doesnt get skins is because of the development cycle, if it was because of there identity liveweaver would have gotten no skins. If they thought a non binary character would sell worse, and they wouldnt give it skins because of that, they wouldnt made them like that in the first place. Also you keep saying its hard to design skins for them when we have seen concept art for there skins and they look fine, again even if it was harder to design skins that shouldnt affect the development because even if they were worse they would still make them. They also wouldnt give a hero a design they thought would be to hard to make skins for. Bastion is much harder to design skins for because of his transformations btw, i should have communicated that better.
they made this character to appeal to non-binary people, but overlooked the fact they designed the character to look gender neutral and can be percieved as either a boy or a girl, so now the devs have an issue with making skins that stay gender neutral because they most definitely would make skins that would be revealing the shapes of the character, not neccessarily their skin but clothes that would show the shapes a bit more and the devs now don't know what to do because and what body figures to choose that also keeps their artstyle intact
this 100%, also they created a character to appeal to a tiny minority of the fan base, wow i wonder why she has the lowest pick rate. also i have yet to meet a hardcore venture main? people who main venture are obviously gonna buy skins but i bet she has a super low "main rate" if you know what i mean

I mean it is very recent and OW2 is a mess. I am not surprised Venture doesnt have a great deep interesting design. Illari also is a flat copy of LoL Sena
@@doriangrayest OW2 has been pretty hit or miss in regards to character personalities and all of that imo. Ram is the most interesting of all the new heroes. I think that’s due to them being way more iconic. Zarya was one of the original heroes with one of the most memorable ults in the game. Moira on the other hand is Moira. The people love purple succ beam.
my thing is like why create an unpopular character from a business perspective and also fail on their marketing. like why waste all that time and money on the first new dps since ow2 launch like that. i dont understand.
My two cents, they made Venture so safe that no one wants to be that person to make a skin and get blasted for it. Blizzard put themselves in a lose/lose situation and I'm going for the low hanging fruit and say it's because Venture is non-binary. I'm sure they're triple checking for a skin idea that won't piss anyone if not everyone (even though blizzard does that anyways). They put out a skin that's even remotely misrepresentive in the eyes of the LGBTQ+ community it'll be a PR crapstorm for Blizzard. So by them making a character for representation they made a character for no on cuz no one wants to make everyone mad at them.
Bro, you're acting like the LGBTQ+ community is gonna burn Blizz at the stake if they give Venture a hint of ankle. Like...I promise most of us just want some nice content for this amazing queer character, very few people would be upset about a well designed skin unless it's GENUINELY bad representation/casts NB people in a bad light somehow.
Honestly, Venture's personality seems to be the silly lil' goofball type (a good thing, silly lil' goofballs are amazing!), and I think Blizz should embrace it. There's a lot of ways to make cosmetics by being a bit silly.
cant they just make skins for that include both genders i honestly dont know wtf non binary in means nor am i interested in learning but if they dont identify as either they could slap them in suit or dress, i dont see the issue here
The main reason venture doesn't have any skins is because blizzard doesn't see it as being profitable. venture is one the of the least played characters in the game it doesn't make sense for them to waste time designing a skin for venture, over any of the other characters that are more popular and have a higher pick rate. I completely disagree with you at 4:23 having a nice looking/cool skin will not make the pick rate of the character go up that is entire determined on playstyle and/or how good they are in the current meta. you said the s*x appeal plays a part in whether a character is popular and gets skins but Ana is the most played character in the game with tons of legendary skins and a new mythic weapon while not being designed with rule 34 artist in mind. venture wont get skins because people wont buy their skins because people don't like playing venture, the reason for that will be different for every person. At the end of the day they'll keep making kiri, juno, ana, and rein skins because that's what people really want to buy and it keeps the severs running.
And to the people saying Blizzard just doesn't know what to do with Venture's drill specifically, and that it's why they're not getting skins...today I saw a giant thread on Twitter with 30+ fan-made skin concepts that integrate the drill weapon beautifully (turning it into leaves, snacks, stone etc.)...if fans can do it, the billion dollar company with staff specifically hired for game design should be able to figure SOMETHING out lol
Along with your other points, i think their nonbinary identity might be a reason, but not because of the hate. Having nonbinary characters in games is super new territory. Theoretically, them being non-binary should expand the possibilities of what skin they could have because they're not restricted by gender. I think Blizzard is scared to make them too masculine or feminine though, and not putting their creative energy in their design to avoid controversy. Which is a real shame if it's true. I wouldn't be surprised if all of ventures skins end up being very agender and they also arent part of collabs.
It's funny to me that people here will say "Omg how dare Blizzard and OW fans sexualize the characters and make NSFW material" meanwhile fans are actually managing to make NSFW material for Venture, slowly but surely. Let's face it, that's the only way they're gonna get more skins is if people find a way to make a "non-binary" character sexy in some way... and I hate to be that guy, but even if Venture identifies as NB, that doesn't erase what's between their legs or on their chest... genuinely, not trying to be phobic, just being honest. Blizzard doesn't know how to approach Venture because if they do things one way or another, odds are they're gonna piss off someone and start more controversy and they wanna avoid that. Also Venture's face... the modelers messed up their face because the 2D art looks great, but the 3D model the face looks kinda scary. Too thick in the eyebrows, tiny pupils... the eyes don't look right.
Honestly, the fact that they didn't give Venture a mole onesie skin is criminal. They're fking adorable, idk what this trend is online with calling Ven ugly.
They are ugly. They're a weird, gender blob. All blizzard had to do was make Venture an attractive female and she would've had skins out the wazoo. Instead, they tried making Venture some weird creature to appeal to like 10 people. Even the people I know that like Venture wish they would've just been a man or a woman instead of whatever they ended up being.
Sorry, *you* can't be comfortable with your sexuality. If you're attractive something you have to go "Mmmm eeeee I don't think so..." and divert your eyes, *especially* if it's a woman you're attractive to.
I stopped playing during Season 8, and came back yesterdau and EVERY SINGLE ENDSCREEN has the team t-posing, and I cant see anyone for at least 30 seconds when I join
It’s almost like live service games are a business their goal is to make money so popular characters are always going to take priority. It doesn’t make sense for a business to invest resources into something that would make less profit or have higher risk than the several other alternatives that have a higher chance of success.
Your whole rant about blizzard not giving venture a rant because of the overall sex nonexistent appeal is just flat out wrong. There are plenty of characters who aren’t neglected who also lack sex appeal, such as Ana, Roadhog, Junkrat, and Wreckingball. Sex appeal isn’t the problem. I don’t know what is, but it’s not that
junkrat lacks sexual appeal is the biggest bs when he literally has a lot of skin that shows off his body and his sitting emote exists, he's def not a good example of a character that lacks sex appeal
Popularity? I almost see no one play him and blizzard is probably afraid "offending" the mentally ill minority that he was made for by designing skins that clearly shows his a guy because his "nonbinary" and the effort to make such skins for what amounts to a DEI character isn't worth it as making a skin for him would sell way less than a skin for literally any other character in the game, a fucking orisa skin would sell more and people hate her.
One thing. Pick rate. I swear no one is playing Venture. It's not about the sexual identity. Lifeweaver gets tons of skins. Venture being non-binary isn't an issue. It's not gonna be "Oh non-binary won't conform to masculine or feminine skin" because other non-conventionally attractive female characters like Moira and Zarya both have feminine and masculine skins.
I constantly see Venture in game, more than Tobjorn or Zarya for example. So popularity is not a valid argument here. Sexualization has something to do with it cause Zarya and Moira ain't getting shit compared to Kiri and Mercy, despite Moira's high popularity as a fun to play hero. Lifeweaver doesn't have tons of skins dude. I am not saying Venture is being neglected because they are non-binary, but they are definitely being neglected because they are not the most profitable hero and don't have an ideal design or model to make very appealing skins. I agree that making non-binary skins isn't hard, but we all know Blizzard is lazy and uninspired, so they choose to stick with what they know will sell the best.
i honestly think blizzard don't want to touch Venture´s design because they are non binary and fear that making a skin that leans slightly into feminine or masculine side would create controversy, i mean, sadly the community wasn't ready for a non-binary character
I see this take a lot and I just gotta say, I disagree completely. Blizzard has incredibly talented and experienced artists on their team, and their character/skin design is one of the few things that overwatch consistently gets praised for. I don’t believe for a second that these veteran artists can’t come up with some androgynous skin designs, especially considering that there are plenty of androgynous skins already in the game for other characters that aren’t non binary. Yes obviously there is slightly more consideration that goes into it but it shouldn’t be difficult for skilled artists, just look at the plenty of skin concepts that fans have already created for venture. Blaming it on ventures identity undermines the real issue, which I also believe to be blizzards greed. It has become painfully obvious that they would rather give popular characters like kiriko and mercy multiple skins a season instead of at least trying to treat characters equally. They will prioritize profit over all else.
@@sae7051 i wouldn't say im blaming their identity, but agree that blizzard has incredibly talented artists and that blizzard's greed is what's stopping them from making skins for Venture, but honestly it kinda feels like that's they way blizzard is treating them because they are the only nb hero and the only hero who has been neglected this way, wich makes no sense to me becayse selling 1 skin would still be more than selling none
the gooners are so pathetic with their blatant transphobia like sorry if a character that doesn't mainly use sex appeal in their design aren't catered for r34 or for porn addicted minds lmao, like hello kiriko and juno is right there for u?? it's like ow is trapped in a side where if they going to put the skin leaning to feminine or masculine side, they still got blatant transphobia bcs degens can't handle them not having gender stereotypes on them and using the excuse of "their design is bad!!" when they look exactly like an overwatch character would look like
Adding him was already a controversy as they were distracting from the sexual harassment stuff with his announcement and they catered if briefly to the mentally ill pdfphiles by caving and adding him, his nothing more than a DEI character. plus a venture skin would sell fuck all compared to a skin made for any other character, so it's also about making money and his not going to be making them money.

Kiriko is literally manufactured to attract weeaboos whales, what do you expect? And if you look at the direct competition, Marvel Rivals (who will overwhelm Overwatch in a matter of months), the "character" Luna Snow is the exact same thing
@@monumentvalley6681 I think if the 6v6 test fails, pretty much tarnishing the perception of the Overwatch development team even further, people will literally flock towards Marvel Rivals. Let's not pretend Overwatch isn't reacting, they announced the plans for a 6v6 test right after Marvel Rivals was praised after the beta tests, the marketing videos are starting to cross 1 million views (like the Psylocke reveal), etc.. they know Rivals is coming, hence why the 6v6, but I'm almost sure this test is going to fluke. Imagine these devs trying to balance Kiriko and Lifeweaver to 6v6? Then you have the IP appeal, Venture compared to Psylocke?
They’re getting a skin for the avatar collab but it isn’t what I think we wanted for venture. Yes it’s a collab skin. But we could’ve and should’ve gotten better and more for them.
"Venture is getting a new skin in Season 14", I watched the new trailer for Season 14 and yeah no, no Venture skin. Blizzard is laughing right now on top of a pile of Gooner money
I think another reason why they aren't getting many skins is their unique weapon design. A lot of characters just have a gun and you can kind of slap any collaboration or design on that hero and just be like oh its them with a gun . But ventures weapon is a bit part of their personality and design so you would have to make it work with the skin which I can imagine is a challenge.
Bro we all know the season 14 venture skin is gonna be an epic recolor of the ice cream skin thats only gonna be available in shop for premium currency, at this point half the people who've ever touched them would pay through the nose for it even if they actively hate the new skin
There's a missing point I'd like to add to your video: LORE! (tl;dr below) With the exception of Venture (and Illari), every character introduced to Overwatch 2 has lore that connects them to pre-existing characters, which also allows us in the playerbase-at least those of us who are still heartbroken by the loss of PvE-to accept the new characters into the world. Sojourn was utilized for OW1 Archives missions while JQ's voice has been used since the inception of Junkertown. Kiriko, while her lore is wishy-washy, has a connection to the Shimada brothers, and Ramattra has ALSO been seen in OW1 through cutscenes. Lifeweaver has a connection to Symmetra, and Mauga was one of THE most asked-for characters... until he actually released- Then of course, there's Juno. She was known as "Space Ranger" for quite some time, and this also allowed for her garner hype in niche circles as people theorized about her, her kit, her lore, and how she'd connect to the overarching Overwatch world. This is another thing Venture as a character lacks, even though they're trying to make up for it through interactions and comics. To add to this, Juno's interactions with Mei have also allowed for a classic Overwatch character to show another side to her, similar to how Ramattra and Lifeweaver brought out new sides of Zenyatta and Symmetra-or JQ's hilarious interactions with Junkrat. THIS to me is what Venture lacks: a genuine connection to the cast. If Venture had been, say, the child of an Overwatch archeologist, a contract worker for Talon who didn't know their real plans, or maybe someone who dreamt of meeting Winston since he could tell them about moon rocks, I believe their reception would've been much better. Instead, a lot of Venture's popularity comes from... defending them from those that dislike them, and fanon jokes about rocks, rather than effort that Blizzard could've put in to make them a complete character. tl;dr The lack of a connection to other Overwatch characters is something else that's damaged Venture, and it's part of why I think they're not as popular as they could be.
I'd say that's the biggest part. Without a connection to any given character, Venture doesn't really have much depth to their personality outside of "hehe rocks" and artifacts, and it's hard for anyone to really get into their character. A phrase I heard aptly describes them (and I think I used it somewhere else in this comment section): a tourist with a drill gun.
I love the idea of them being a contract worker for Talon. The Talon side desperately needs more characters and this would be such a great way to integrate Venture into the world of OW.
@@MoonlightBrillance Exactly! And imagine how many natural interactions they’d have with Sigma (about space, rocks and the things he’s seen at his age) and Sombra (more Spanish-Spanish conversations)!
But venture knows torb, they have a rivalry with Mauga, and if overwatch ever actually expanded on their lore seemingly a connection with sombra. Interactions and comics are their connection to overwatch characters and I’d argue they have more than Illari, who outside of interactions literally never interacts with anyone in the overwatch universe, and yet Illari’s been getting plenty of skins. There’s plenty to love about venture both in terms of connection to the lore and their own character by itself.
@@raidenstokes1026 I agree with you 100%. I think that with Illari, her impact (at least for the loreheads) came from how her standalone lore is so... strong. Similar to the impact that Sigma and Ram's lore videos had on the community, from the OG "WHAT IS THAT MELODY!?" moment from the former to Rammatra's revolutionary vibe, Illari's video hit home hard for a lot of people. At the same time, that might be WHY more people've connected with her over Venture-it's easier to relate to someone who's open about her grief than someone who (while I love them) is very chipper and happy without much to balance said chipperness. For a good example, there's Junkrat! He's silly and cartoony in a similar way to Venture, yet he's ALSO grounded by the fact that he desires friendship (with the whole cast), a family (through his interactions with Ana), and understanding despite his chaotic nature. The same goes for characters like Lucio and Tracer who are VERY energetic. OW1 Tracer had some DARKNESS to her whenever she spoke to Widow, and the same went for Lucio whenever he caught a GLIMPSE of Sym. I think that bit of relatability-though some HAVE noted that they can heavily relate to Venture's giddiness and hyperfixations-is what's missing from them.
The reason is because they're prioritizing Mercy, Kiriko, DVA, and Juno which are all objectively attractive female characters that can pull off cute skins better than other characters. They are so popular and have so much more playtime compared to other heroes that they create skins for them because they know people will buy them. Not everyone wants to buy a Venture skin and not everyone that plays venture wants to buy that skin either. The problem is that any skin has to be BOUGHT and not earned or randomly obtained. Mercy skins are going to sell 5x more than Venture skins even when there are diehard Venture players because you HAVE to spend money on the skin to wear it.
It's a weird take to say people who like the Juno design need to "touch grass" but don't hold the same weight to the people who DESIGNED the character. You're basically blaming the consumer for something they have very little control over in terms of creative design. There isn't some shadowy collective of players standing outside the blizz headquarters demanding Juno have more skins or 'be r34 material'. If you really wanna know why they don't know what direction to take with skins is - they focused so much on Venture being an NB character that they now have to be super mindful on what type of skin they want to produce without offending anyone. Can't be too masculine, can't be too femenine, so you're sort of stuck trying to find a strange neutral middleground. My guess is that skin in S14 will be some indiana jones.
@nethstar, He tells people who find the characters attractive to touch grass but then says Juno has a dumptruck🤣🤣🤣. I find it hard to believe someone so focused on what others like is speaking from an authentic place. He doesn't realize he was conditioned to think the way he does by the same society that creates and promotes this stuff. He's a societal bot.
I think it's unhealthy and strange to imply that Juno is sexualised purely because of her backside, that'd imply any woman in real life wearing skinny jeans, yoga pants or leggings / jeggings, more or less any form fitting clothing below the torso to be sexualising themselves and to me, is actually creepier than you think it is. What you should talk about, is her movement animation, which was clearly done to emphasise her assets. There are multiple ways to do an air-gliding animation, the clearly went for one with hip-sway, which draws attention to certain parts of her body. I don't honestly care if Venture gets skins because I think they suck visual design wise and no, it isn't because of a lack of skin shown, I just think the base is boring as hell and most skins, for me, aren't going to make them appealing to play over the alternatives. Maybe an Ultrawatch one would have gotten a look from me.
I agree, Venture's design is too plain unlike Juno's. This youtuber started with a good point, but then emphasized too much about how Juno's esign is gross and disgusting just becauase of sexual appeal, since he implies Juno's design is just that and an actual good simple design too.
They seriously do not, think about it. Hazard got a whole animated trailer. Juno had a whole in-game setup and a change in Dorado, also kicking Venture in the face in the trailer. We all know abt Kiriko. What did Venture get... a small comic that doesn't bear any significance to the plot from the looks of it.
theyre genuinely so disconnected from the lore. bcs at least juno was hinted at through project red promise on lijiang tower and has a connection to mei. we were waiting for mauga. lifeweavers connected to sym, soj to og ow, jq is another one we waited for. genuinely. like. venture has 0 connection to the lore and the comic felt like a pathetic attempt at it same with that short animation. like they need to actually gas up ventures involvement with other heroes and give them more personality than cardboard. why is venture with the wayfinders?? SHOW US?? who are the wayfinders?? tell us more about this surprise organization?? like..
Appearances aside, Venture has no lore. What relevance does she have with Overwatch, Null Sector, Omnic Crisis, and other major events in the universe? Nothing. It’s even worse than Illari who also has no relevance to the history of Overwatch universe, but at least has her own lore. Why would I care about a character who has no known connection to the events and history of a fictional universe? Such a character is practically a mere distraction.
> make unappealing character design > people don’t play the character > low playrate character sells less skins > character gets no skins It’s honestly just that simple. All this debate about sexualization and gender and whatnot is so meaningless on both sides. Blizzard is a company, all that matters is money and the consumer-base.
This video feels like a naive kid discovering what capitalism and the real world look like. Yes Venture is being ignored because they lack appeal to the majority of the playerbase while characters like Juno & Kiriko does. It comes from both sexualisation and the fact that Venture's gender is divisive for some people making the character even less popular as a whole. Blizzard is making skins for characters that are popular and sells. Venture is considered as a whole like an average character while Kiriko & Juno are considered beautiful/cute/sexy based solely on their design. Nothing new under the sun, no need for such an "essay" which is just a talk-around the real facts.
he really is a naive kid discovering what the real world is, venture is ugly, that's about it, nobody wants to play ugly characters, let alone pay for it.
Sorry man youre just completely wrong about this. Characters dont get skins because of their sex appeal characters get skins if people really like the characters. As you pointed out rein gets a ton of skins and that isnt because of his sexual appeal its because people like playing rein and they like his character design. If a huge number of players adored ventures design on release there would be skins because that would make blizzard money. The whole process is more democratic than you make it out to be. Blizzard doesnt push skins for characters because they are hot they push skins for characters people like and people tend to prefer the hot characters.
Rein is a man. I think the straight male gooners give way more attention to characters like mercy, and kiri who do have sexual appeal rather than any other type of overwatch player gives to any other type of character
@@Ghillie000I think bubbling down the answer to “their gooners” is a very disingenuous way of putting it and will just make people angry cause you’re just insulting them. But it shouldn’t come to a surprise that people like player attractive characters it’s been like that since the beginning of gaming with Lara Croft, Samus, and almost any street fighter character like ryu or chun Lee.
Kiriko, Dva, Mercy, and many other "sexualized" Overwatch heroes were, and still are extremely popular with female fans, who by large feel duper-duper represented by these designs. Overwatch peaked in popularity when the Witch Mercy skin came out. I saw Dva and Mercy cosplayers walking around town. "Mercy main" was mainstream slang. If the game's design and marketing didn't focus on sex appeal, the casual audience (read: women) would have ignored it. It would have never sold 8 figures. You wouldn't be making videos about it.
As a woman I despise the sexualisation of these characters. It disgusts me dva was a minor most of the time and got turned 19 so people could jerk it. Mercy not being allowed to age because it would make her less sexy is horrible for women and Kirkos lore is straight up stolen from 2 amazing characters (genji and hanzo) ruining the story for all 3 for me. Sacrificing good story and good gameplay to make sexy women sexy is bad. Bad for women bad for everyone.
Honestly it baffles me how anyone can view Kiriko as s3xy. She's literally covered from head to toes in her OG skin, plus she looks underage. The Mercy, Widow etc. I understand, but Kiriko? Nah.
When Ow2 got released to steam all the comments were PURELY ''pron better then the game'', and it disgusted me to my core. I cannot play this game normally anymore due to the little pathetic boyss just.. ew.. NO!! As a girl player, I see soooo many games sexualising their girlies. Juno somehow has a perfect waist, good chest and good thighs yet SOMEHOW a thigh gap, small slim arms and somewhat petite type. It's sickenick and only encourages boys to think girls are like this. As if the fetishisation on TikTok or any other Social Media hasn't ruined bodies of women already. I see it even appear in my own friend group, where the guys simply state how badly they'd wanna f*ck this and that character because ''they look small and easily fcked'' (they look like CHILDREN) I don't even want to see any new skins in games anymore because it disgusts me with both envy and hatred, wanting to be appealing to guys and envying a GAME character. Yet disgusting me that they cannot make normal characters without sexualising them. Take the Cat Skins in Ow2.. I mean, come on. Can't tell me that it isn't a fettish?? Or the sudden rise in Goth skins in Fortnite. I don't even dare dress my Gothic self anymore because boys will think I'm your fetish stereo type tiktok goth girl (ifykyk) Sorry for rant, anyway. WHERE'S STRIPPER RAMMATRA FOR THE GIRLIES? OR LIFEGUARD TORB. Oh- masked Genji but showing all his muscle in a compression shirt. If the boys get something, then us girl deserve a little treat too..
Concord is the obvious example. No one bought it cause the characters were ugly and this is totally the fault of the concord developers because they tried to sell something no one wanted. Overwatch has a bunch of attractive characters because thats what people want to buy. They arent tricking us into playing their game or buying skins with their attractive characters. The attractive characters are what makes overwatch worth playing and concord not worth playing. So if you have to blame anyone for the lack of venture skins blame the players who dont find the design very appealing not the developers who are restricted to making things that people will buy
If Venture gets a collab skin, then 100% its going to be a Gurren Lagann one. They could give them a Simon inspired one, then maybe Genji gets Kamina, and Ramattra could get the Gurren Lagann mecha inspired skin. Widow could even get a Yoko skin.
all I'm saying is that a gurren lagann collab would be baller, it would be perfect for wrecking ball to get a lagann skin and venture to get a simon skin
The sexual angle makes sense. But don't you think Venture being non-binary makes it difficult to make skins. Especially the collab skins with characters that already have a defined gender. Blizz kinda pigeon holed themselves into not wanting to diminish the character's backstory.
Gender kinda doesn't matter when we have deku tracer running around. If anything it reinforced the fact that it is the hate. If gender doesn't matter for skins why hasn't venture gotten one
they didn't pigeon hole anything. there's dozens of fan-made Venture skin concepts that have NOTHING to do with their gender-identity. like, there's a shark-onesie concept, the mummy skin, a MINER skin, all of which are not gendered. Tracer got the fucking Deku skin and she's a British woman, which Deku is NOT. this argument lets Blizzard off the hook way too easily
Concord was made for you. Juno's design is appealing, while Venture is just terrible. If anyone should go touch grass it's you. Also Venture is not just ugly, but also boring. That's why they get no skins, while Junkrat does.
@@Beepbeepbeep12 he was yapping about how characters are attractive, because blizzard is "money hungry" and were made for people who should touch grass. "Overwatch creating sexual charachters is disgusting" Overwatch with 2016 cast: Widowmaker/Mercy/Tracer/Dva Tf u talking about? Who wants to look at ugly characters? Why is sexualising bad?
Not just skins, but the focus on bringing up as being Non Binary, during a time where a lot of gamers are seeing the pattern of Dei being stuffed into games at the games detriment. As personally i like Venture's playstyle, comboing her abilities is fun.
@@MILOPETITthey want their game to be "less woke" meanwhile we've had gay characters in the game long ago, tracer is lesbian and solider is gay like um!! Way to be dumb
I mean in all fairness Venture is a fine character, but its pretty easy to figure out why Venture has no skin. 1. (Pick Rate) Venture as a whole is good at a lot of things but not really great at any one thing, making Venture less likely to be picked over another dps that pairs better or serves a specific role better. 2. (Design) Venture is a Character with in addition to a low pick rate, falls within a somewhat weird grey area because of Blizzard directly stating that they are "Nonbinary". Leaving Venture in a weird spot where if they lean one way or another (Male designs or Female designs) people are gonna get upset. 3. (Popularity) This goes hand in hand with the first two reasons, but outside of inside the game Venture isn't that popular. Look at any popularity poll or the amount of fan art, but of which are good indications of a characters popularity. 4. (DEI) This is probably the most obvious to people, but realistically Venture was probably a character made to check a box. People tend to forget companies aren't your friends, and as sad as it sounds this feels like the most probable as Blizzard has retconned and unnecessarily added the sexuality of several characters over the past couple of years, from making Cassidy bisexual, Genji Bisexual, Junkrat Aesexual, Ect. This just feels like another one of Blizzards attempts as making some people happy for a time and then forgetting, they are really good at that. And just to clarify I don't hate Venture and anyone of any sexual orientation, this is just the god's honest truth from someone who has seen this happen before.
yeah I just really see it as blizzard only care about money, they could care less about giving quality skins to a hero like venture or doing better collabs. I just think its even more sad that they cant fix bugs in the game in a timely manner. Like the gold gun issue is still here after a week man. just goes to show how lazy and slow this company is when the issue isnt a shop related issue or something that involves them making money
Probably? Most likely. Remember, this is the same Blizzard who uses an actual graph to scale the diversity of their OW characters. Venture was probably just a business move they didn't expect to actually work off of (hence why Venture isn't getting a legendary skin until the end of the year)
They kind of wrote themselves into a corner with this one. They probably have no clue what to do skin wise due to the whole non binary thing. Can't sexualize them like the other characters
Not just non-binary thing, Venture's base design is just not friendly to make a new cosmetic. Unlike Lifeweaver, he is pansexual but he still gets skins because his base design is simpler. Same for Mei & Brigitte, they both get fewer skins than less attractive / popular characters like Junkrat, Moira, Roadhog, Torbjorn and Symmetra because of their complex base designs. Mei wore a thick coat, while Brig wore a body armor. Venture wears baggy & multiple layer of clothing which makes things harder like matching the hitbox silhouette; making sure their bodies not clipping through the outfit; etc.
I think we are losing the meaning of dumb truck also Ana ruins you whole point also unique doesn't make sense cuz venture aint that unique. its just layered asl which is why I think its hard
I'd just like to comment about all the "gross, sexualized, don't want or need it in our game, stop designing characters like that" stuff because it does help perpetuate this idea that 'sexy' outfits and designs are solely for men and solely for 'goon' pleasure of said men. I know I and plenty of other women (also i'm ace) like when characters look attractive or cute, we like to dress up characters in outfits we think makes them look cute same way we might pick outfits for ourselves that we just like the look of, for ourselves not for men. I doubt even the majority of people buying those skins for those characters are 'gooning' men because they just watch actual OW p**n instead of spending money on a skin they can almost never see anyway because its first person. I'm willing to bet most of the people who enjoy those skins are women and queer people playing dress up with their favourite OW dolls basically. That's why I use those skins and play characters like Mercy, I just think they look neat whilst I find all the male skins and more buttoned up stuff just not that interesting. You don't have to like ''unsexualized'' skins to not be some gooner and you don't have to be some gooner to like the 'sexy' skins or more attractive character designs, it doesn't all have to lead back to s*x. Sorry for the long winded dialog its just as a queer ace who enjoys these skins and characters seeing them always just referred to as "nothing but bait for men to do things to" gets so tiring to hear when so many of us like those things for different reasons and we're more likely the reason they are popular sellers so I don't want to see them taken away after being demonized as something that doesn't belong in the game or that people who like it need to touch grass.
The archeologist not getting a skin in the egypt battle pass was confusing for me. Not going to lie, I still want that new Juno skin in the My Hero collab
you can use the metrics to see that less popular heros still get skins, its also clear from looking at junos lack of release skins that there is something wrong with the hero development cycle not how they are selecting heros to get skins.
@@Rando3210 they can neglect venture as a hero and a whopping "5" people will care. blizzard cares about 1 thing-money. it's obvious why there are no skins and will continue to be no skins for venture.

Honestly I don't agree with the "character sexualisation work" Honestly I think it's not about that but more about character design. In my opinion Venture have one of the weakest design in the game... bland color, no flashy details etc... If you compare with Juno (while yes there is sexualsation) her design is very good (great colors, great lines and all) Hell, you don't need sexualisation for good character design look at all the robots with awsome designs
in addition to Venturee being ignored, I think Ramattra gets that same treatment. Ram has been a playable character almost 2 years now; has 3 battle pass skins, 3 shop, 2 recolors, in addition to his skins available on release. Kiriko has been out just over 2 years now and has 2 battle pass skins, 12legendary/2epic shop(1recolor coming soon), and a mythic skin in addition to her skins available on release. (and blizzard advertised her feet in a post on x for her yatagarasu skin, which is behind a $40 paywall.)

Most support mains are going to naturally gravitate towards Juno because it's another "cute" healer that they can expand too.

and apart from those guys, i love playing ana and moira.
They could always go for different fields of study as skins, androgynous mythological characters, and such
I don't think that's necessarily true because of having a non binary person in the game was going to be difficult why would they even make her non binary in the first place?
Maybe the skins for Venture were the friends we made along the way
I’ve seen so many cool concepts for venture skins hell even a legendary MUMMY SKIN would be cool
I can already hear the outrage from people for misgendering Venture by giving it a 'mummy' skin.
I love clown world xD
Actually true juno got a skin fast asf because they know she will sell😂
Thanks for keeping it 100
@@gusronalds7484 him saying something is not proof of hate, i have heard literally heard no one inside the community care about them being non binary once, not saying there isnt any but its not any more than than the hate towards lesbians or something.

But then i go back to my favorite interesting characters. I also dislike how Venture tries too hard to be "my personality is ROCKS! LOL! Haha! Dig! Dig! Dig! lol". Sure Tracer jokes about Time and Mei likes Ice jokes but there is much more behind that. Venture is a carboard comparing to them.

venture shouldve at the very least got a dinosaur skin for halloween cause fossils and dinosaur scary
That’s the thing tho they are non binary they could have so many skins for either gender
I have a friend who bought a battle pass, JUST because it had a Venture emote
6:20 not ONLY did they do that they REMOVED parts of the legwear she was wearing in her concept art to MAKE ROOM FOR IT.
What's wrong w thick eyebrows. And yes we literally get that "what's between your legs is your gender" already. Beside gender and sx are DIFFERENT.

One thing.

When Venture does get a skin though, they need to do a Gurren Lagan collap 😭
There's a missing point I'd like to add to your video:
LORE! (tl;dr below)
With the exception of Venture (and Illari), every character introduced to Overwatch 2 has lore that connects them to pre-existing characters, which also allows us in the playerbase-at least those of us who are still heartbroken by the loss of PvE-to accept the new characters into the world.
Sojourn was utilized for OW1 Archives missions while JQ's voice has been used since the inception of Junkertown. Kiriko, while her lore is wishy-washy, has a connection to the Shimada brothers, and Ramattra has ALSO been seen in OW1 through cutscenes. Lifeweaver has a connection to Symmetra, and Mauga was one of THE most asked-for characters... until he actually released-
Then of course, there's Juno.
SHOW US?? who are the wayfinders?? tell us more about this surprise organization?? like..
i wish they could give her at least a space mining thematic could fit perfectly
Appearances aside, Venture has no lore. What relevance does she have with Overwatch, Null Sector, Omnic Crisis, and other major events in the universe? Nothing. It’s even worse than Illari who also has no relevance to the history of Overwatch universe, but at least has her own lore.
Why would I care about a character who has no known connection to the events and history of a fictional universe? Such a character is practically a mere distraction.
a simple fix would be to have them accientaly find the tomb where the omnic god is (forgot it's name)
It would literally be as easy as making Venture a Junker, hell, people thought they were for months anyway.
Venture is a “they/them,” but you’re totally right. The thing that made me like Juno was her interactions with Mei. Venture has nothing
Cant wait for the Gurren Lagann collab where Venture will get 35 billion skins
> make unappealing character design
> people don’t play the character
> low playrate character sells less skins
> character gets no skins
It’s honestly just that simple. All this debate about sexualization and gender and whatnot is so meaningless on both sides. Blizzard is a company, all that matters is money and the consumer-base.
I wonder why Concord failed

$40 multiplayer online only game in 2024?
Debout les damnés de la terre !
he really is a naive kid discovering what the real world is, venture is ugly, that's about it, nobody wants to play ugly characters, let alone pay for it.

@@Hakimgrr_ He's a product of the American colleges system, it's so obvious XD
Sorry man youre just completely wrong about this. Characters dont get skins because of their sex appeal characters get skins if people really like the characters. As you pointed out rein gets a ton of skins and that isnt because of his sexual appeal its because people like playing rein and they like his character design. If a huge number of players adored ventures design on release there would be skins because that would make blizzard money. The whole process is more democratic than you make it out to be. Blizzard doesnt push skins for characters because they are hot they push skins for characters people like and people tend to prefer the hot characters.
Yeah bit rein is still attractive as well, don’t you think that some people play these characters BECAUSE they are attractive?
Nah.
Because he is a horrendous character. He looks like a dustborn kind of character, lacks all the charisma all the other OW characters have.
it’s obvious like we never see any skins for other supports….just mercy and kiriko
I see it even appear in my own friend group, where the guys simply state how badly they'd wanna f*ck this and that character because ''they look small and easily fcked'' (they look like CHILDREN)
I don't even want to see any new skins in games anymore because it disgusts me with both envy and hatred, wanting to be appealing to guys and envying a GAME character. Yet disgusting me that they cannot make normal characters without sexualising them. Take the Cat Skins in Ow2.. I mean, come on. Can't tell me that it isn't a fettish??
Or the sudden rise in Goth skins in Fortnite. I don't even dare dress my Gothic self anymore because boys will think I'm your fetish stereo type tiktok goth girl (ifykyk)
Sorry for rant, anyway.
WHERE'S STRIPPER RAMMATRA FOR THE GIRLIES? OR LIFEGUARD TORB.
Oh- masked Genji but showing all his muscle in a compression shirt. If the boys get something, then us girl deserve a little treat too..
Referring to every character as "they" makes your video confusing to listen to. Just use the names.
Gurren Lagann and ow fans are hungry and thirsty. I just want venture to get a Simon skin 💔
Venture would totally wrap themself in toilet paper to mimic a mummy. Make that a skin.
7:30 he's taking a bath, give bro some privacy
Concord was made for you. Juno's design is appealing, while Venture is just terrible. If anyone should go touch grass it's you. Also Venture is not just ugly, but also boring. That's why they get no skins, while Junkrat does.
Don't forget roadhog! If they want to talk about "mUh DaIvErSiTy". Everyone loves the fat fuck that is roadhog, and he gets so many cool skins.
@@Beepbeepbeep12 he was yapping about how characters are attractive, because blizzard is "money hungry" and were made for people who should touch grass. kinda off topic, but I’ve always appreciated the editing in these vids
Thank you!
the skins come from pick rate, so obviously no one cares to play that hero. surprising? I think not
Few heroes got low pick rate too, so what??? Lmfao
Venture was probably just a business move they didn't expect to actually work off of (hence why Venture isn't getting a legendary skin until the end of the year)
Where has it been ever stated Cree and genji were bi and junk was ace lol
@@nessquake The official comics
Agree with you but just to clarify, Genji and Cass are not bisexual lol. The only bi character is Baptiste and Lifeweaver is also pan.
Kiriko's feet have gotten more attention than Venture

Amazingly mature video!! Absolute banger, imma share on my story 🗣️
The archeologist not getting a skin in the egypt battle pass was confusing for me.
Not going to lie, I still want that new Juno skin in the My Hero collab
because they have the metrics, venture is among the least popular heroes.
you can use the metrics to see that less popular heros still get skins, its also clear from looking at junos lack of release skins that there is something wrong with the hero development cycle not how they are selecting heros to get skins.

Honestly I don't agree with the "character sexualisation work" Honestly I think it's not about that but more about character design.
In my opinion Venture have one of the weakest design in the game... bland color, no flashy details etc...
If you compare with Juno (while yes there is sexualsation) her design is very good (great colors, great lines and all)
Hell, you don't need sexualisation for good character design look at all the robots with awsome designs
Well said
I like the cat on the background. Cats are cute.
As for the sexualisation issue: figure and conservative clothing isn't an issue. Proof - Mei.
in addition to Venturee being ignored, I think Ramattra gets that same treatment.
I was kinda following along until you brought out the “sexual appeal of fictional characters is gross” like come on now are we 5? Are you gonna get cooties from the fictional video game woman?
I think the point is the over sexualsiing that goes to a point that it prevents other characters from getting content. Which yeah, that's dumb?
@@josjos-x5s that just means other characters weren't designed well enough. OW characters don't exist in a vacuum from each other, it's a failure of the design or the design team if a characters design doesn't stand out or not appealing enough to Garner attention.

Im so fed up though of character design being curb stomped just so the character has a curvy silhouette. You can find a character attractive without falling into the pitfall of one traditional idea. Are we that pathetic as humans?
@@josjos-x5s Pathetic? lol it's not that deep. People like good looking/appealing characters plain and simple. Male, female or other, it doesn't matter.
You make a design not all that appealing and you don't attract an audience. No character is entitled to success or admiration, if a design fails to garner a large enough audience then it stays niche and only a select few will stick around, that's that. It's a cold hard reality check.
@@nerobiblios4086 Ventures design is appealing though. I dont get why people are so focused on saying venture looks bad when they just, dont???
They have a cute goofy face, their traditional archaeological get up is cool and contrasted with their drilling tech. Like they look good, yall are coping so hard to find any excuse to dislike them. And even if you find their colour scheme bland, they literally have alternative colours (and could have more with more skins!).
What is it because they aren't in spandex?
You know what design I find unappealing, junos and sojourn. Because juno would be so much cooler with a bulkier suit (Closer to her concept art) and I find sojourns kind of half naked get up just leaves a strange silhouette on her character.
