I had same problem with my S80, 2001.
I guess water got into the mechanism and it didn't latch properly. When it became a little warm everything started to work well.

+drdmac Thanks for the comment. It's because I do my own repairs that I can afford to buy the tools and I really do enjoy and get a sense of accomplishment when I do fix problems.
