This saved me some money. 9 year old V70 had driver door speakers randomly cutting out and parking sensor making crackling sound. Had to make two attempts, it didn't help when only applying tape. 2 wires had visible corrosion so I cut out small section on both and soldered new pieces. Thanks, I ordered and installed the hinge pins, which would not have been possible without your guide. My car is a 2007 S80 sold in Sweden with 270.000 km on the clock and it didn´t have the cable tie and plastic tab on the connector, the cables were not even wrapped with tape, and there were no damage at all on cables, all looked very good. Closing/opening of the door is now working as when it was new. Again thanks
My V70 ‘09, have this problem, just thought it had some work done and the door was never adjusted correctly. When I say your video, you provided me with a major shortcut, I would never have found this to be the cause, so I would probably adjusted my self to death - I’m ordering two repair-kits for it. Had the same problem on my - 13 xc70 T6. First the dealer told me i had to cut of the whole hinge and weld a new one in place. I then found out about the repair kit and it turned out that Volvo covered the whole operation on good will. So i got the repair kit installed and the hinges repainted in the correct colour, all free of charge. The dealer had no idea of this and of course first would not pay for it but when they contacted head quarters they changed their mind. Maybe worth checking out before you pay for the repair kit(s), might only work in sweden, but worth checking out.

Fully prepared to find the tie rip, no such thing, instead I found an old repair! Badly done. I chose to remove the pins from the plug and use heat shrink on five wires, one even had to be soldered. Bottom line it works again thanks to your helpful video. Funny note, I was prepared for an extremely heavy Volvo door so I was pleasantly surprised to find it was possible, not easy, to do it alone.

AC is vital in Florida, we need it in Canada too, this summer highest temp was 38C in the prairies! That noise could be an expensive one, I noticed some on mine but could be the belt. I'll wait till next summer, AC is used now just for defogging.
Hmm, rust on hinge on 2013 S80?! My 2011 S80 is still rust-free, but the electrical problem with that wires I already had it, maybe this is the reason for why the former owner sold it because he had in console many 20A fuses! The problem occurred about 1.5 years after I bought it, the entire left side went dead including mirrors that remained folded. Almost every day I had to replace a fuse, so I removed the door and fix it. This is a Volvo mistake keeping all wires tight together, they have no twisting flexibility, and insulation will crack. You discovered the problem before, which is great and save you from trouble, these wires are from CAN bus which is the communication between computer and DDM, so a shortcut will make you believe the DDM module is dead and replace it for a lot of money, they can't be just replaced need to be programmed too! Thanks for the video, my doors are still good and not greased, bone dry, I tried to oil them, didn't work very well, just mess around hinges...Do you think the plastic bushings failed from a chemical reaction with grease? I have to check that, I know every car needs grease on hinges, but not sure about these ones because is hard to do it, different design, and very hard to get the oil inside!

Excellent tips and methods, well done. Interesting particularly the wiring loom got moused. On my Volvo 2012 S60 II the entire hinge assembly is screwed to the body and door, so fitting a replacement is simpler.
I tend to use something that is called “Owatrol” before painting. It reacts with rust and turn it into a hard sort of primer….. Enjoy this one too, greetz from Sweden
Nice video!! A suggestion… put the bolt/insert in the freezer for a while, this way the hinge bolt will shrink and it might be easier to install them without a mallet 👍🏼
It’s OK to tap into place with a mallet - it’s known as an INTERFERENCE FIT. Such a small diameter part won’t shrink enough to matter even at -30 degrees.
I checked my car today, it's manufactured 07 but a 08 model, the door is ok but the red big cable had some damage, no torn wires but the insulation! thanks for the warning.
The cause of the defective hinge is material abrasion due to rust. This occurs because water can drip from the plug above it over a rubber lip exactly onto the head of the hinge. Therefore only the lower hinge is affected. I also repaired that on my XC70. But since the repair kit wasn't available at that time, I used the broken one from a new upper hinge set and placed the lower mount on the head with a conical drilled drill bit and installed it. Works perfect. Volvo wanted to install the entire lower hinge, removing the lower hinge and welding a new one. This process would have been prohibitively expensive. My local Volvo dealership has done this several times and I think that's why the repair kits are so extremely expensive.

Serges' car looks pretty identical to mine, same colour and T6 Inscription. My lower hinge is rusty too on the same side. I'm going to rub it down, touch it up and put some grease on it.
The door harness exam is very revealing. Volvo should upgrade this flexing wire bundle for long-term reliability. A multi-turn coil would solve this by minimizing the angular flex. A specialized wire jacket is called for in this harness. The zip-tie was a bad idea -- velcro or electrical tape much better.

Is it possible to take measure on the old bolt in order to make DIY repair. After all, all you need is new brass sleeve on the bolt. Then you can drill and tap screw a bolt to secure it into place.
I'm not sure for taping only broken wires. This two is can comunication wires so if all copper broke, ddm module will be not responding. Better way is to replace wiring from connector to few cm inside car and solder it.
They are probably not selling a lot of the hinge repair kits because you can buy an entire new hinge and repair it without drilling for 80 bucks. However then you need to be careful to align the door.

И если приводной мультирем рвётся, то его затягивает вниз под ремень ГРМ , и тогда второй рвётся, и движку хана. Поэтому следи за приводным ремнем, и меняй ролик натяжной. Ставь только оригинал. Для Вольво оригиналом будет Gates. Можешь даже заказать Германии с сайта билдералонлайн24. Они начали в Россию отправлять. А ремень ГРМ Вольво заказывает у Contitech . Ложит в свою синию упаковку и продаёт в три раза дороже. Ну а сам твой движок, если ремень не порвется- он пройдёт спокойно и 500, и 600 и даже более. Турбинка может конечно раньше полететь, топливная система, особенно в российской солярки. А двигун- монстр! Никакие фольксвагены рядом не стоят. Ауди, мерсы- сейчас такие делают, что капец. У меня друг в автосервисе работает тут в Швеции. Приходят аудухи с пробегом меньше сотни тыс км, у них летят цепи ГРМ, коробки, всякая фигня.

Hey Yuri. My V70 door handle is tight and have to pull it very quickly or quite hard to get it to release. Someone pointed me to this video. My doors don’t sag and no hinges have any obvious play although the third black hinge thing does have some play but it’s been like that for months and this is a recent issue. When i did it on my s80, i took the hinge off the door, made it much easyer. Had the same wiring problem. Nice video
Of course it is much easier, but when you do that, it's very hard to fit it again in right place

11:22 those twisted pair heavy wires are for the door speaker. BMW also twists their speaker wires together to combat electronic noise.

Турбинка может конечно раньше полететь, топливная система, особенно в российской солярки. А двигун- монстр! Никакие фольксвагены рядом не стоят. Ауди, мерсы- сейчас такие делают, что капец. У меня друг в автосервисе работает тут в Швеции. Приходят аудухи с пробегом меньше сотни тыс км, у них летят цепи ГРМ, коробки, всякая фигня.

Hey Yuri. My V70 door handle is tight and have to pull it very quickly or quite hard to get it to release. Someone pointed me to this video. My doors don’t sag and no hinges have any obvious play although the third black hinge thing does have some play but it’s been like that for months and this is a recent issue. Could you shed any expertise? Many thanks

Hello, I have now the same issue with my 2013 V60. I was looking for the part you use for your V70, but it does not say it is compatible with my V60. Do you have any idea if that works? I found the part for around 70-80 EUR and would not want to spend if not compatible. Thanks

Szia! Rendeltél végül a V60-hoz? Ugyanez a gondom az S60-nál, az alsó zsanért kellene tuningolnom, viszont a Vida nem hoz hozzá külön felújítót, csak kompletten a zsanért.
i have an 09 v70 3.2, my door hinges are fine but none of the electronics on the driver side, front and rear doors(except the speakers) dont work. do you think its a wiring harness or a drivers door module?

Судя по состоянию петель они просто не знали правильной смазки. Минимум два раза в год обильно мазать. У Вас так и 4, климат жесткий.
