    Thank you for making this video!! I have done that border overland one way or another 6 times in my life & STILL been scammed on more than one occasion. Back in the day I searched the web for a good video like this to guide me with no luck so this one will come in handy for travelers to come for sure!

    • @mari.johnson
      @mari.johnson  8 років тому

      +TL Travel Yeah I hope it will help people! I felt so bad for the people on my bus that got scammed. Sorry to hear it's happened to you! They make it so easy to be confused, if someone didn't tell me about it, I wouldn't have known!

    • @tltravel
      @tltravel 8 років тому

      They really do. Especially when you don't realize how far you have to walk to get stamped in and out of each country. The first time I was there they got me with the Visa scam (rookie! lol) & then the first time I did the border going the other way by bus I had to change buses and they gave me no info. on where to go so some guy just spotted me and yelled that he his bus was the right bus & we were all on and moving they made us buy tickets again. Needless to say NOT the right bus lol

      +Alyssa Anderson Thanks Billy! I mean, I do get a little freaked out sometimes, but I just remind myself that even though these things are new for me, this is normal life for other people, and so many other people are doing and have done the same thing as me! Thanks for your support as always. xoxoxo

    This is so interesting, thanks for vlogging this part of your journey. I took a similar bus ride -- from KL to Singapore -- where we also had to get off the bus for passport control, but your experience looks a lot more complicated and (dare I say) shady. Good going, though! Looking forward to future vlogs.

    Hi Mari, do you know if you can extend you visa at the time of purchase?
    For instance, could I at the border crossing purchase an E class Cambodian visa that is valid for one month, and then immediately extend it for 3 months while I'm there to save me the hassle of doing it elsewhere? Please do respond if you read this, I would appreciate it a lot!

    2 on is a ordinary visa is 35 to 50 $
    it can be existed to 3_ 6 _ 12 months . the ordinary visa has a
    big E in the middle of it.
    the tourists visa has a big T in
    the middle of it

    You're so brave to do all this alone! The whole bus trip seemed a bit dodgy (other than the food! Pretty good deal for how much the trip cost) and I wonder why they don't help you out with the border part of it. How confusing and scary when you're in a new country. Glad you made it! :)

    • @mari.johnson
      @mari.johnson  8 років тому

      +Kalliste I know the food seems like such a bonus because I feel like no bus I'm used to in the US would ever have that. It was weird that the people working on the bus just let it all happen, it makes me wonder if they were in on it too...

    Whenever I hear Cambodia I think of the Killing Grounds of the 70's. Flying would have been much more convenient but I don't ever see myself traveling to Asia. I hope to see what modern Cambodia is like in your videos. Its interesting to see how much the locals try to take advantage of tourist visiting their country. Bangkok looked more friendlier.

    are you going back to Thailand after Cambodia? If, do you get the visa permission for 30 days for thailand again?

    • @mari.johnson
      @mari.johnson  8 років тому

      +GoBunt I know, the visa stuff is one of the most confusing thing about traveling! Yes, if I go back to Thailand, my visa will renew. Expats who live here will do border crossings for a day, just to extend their stay.

    about how much money would you think ill have to budget to take a 2month trip down there, based on your expirence ?

    • @mari.johnson
      @mari.johnson  8 років тому

      +Blanca Flores It completely depends on what type of travel you want to do, but I would say around $30 a day minimum is what you should budget. Some places in Southeast Asia could be much cheaper than that, and some could be more and it depends if you want to do a lot of activities, etc. Hope that helps!

      yes. Never put anything of value down below. And, I recommend you "seal" or tape up your pack so that you don't get things put into it. We took that bus! The bathroom smell is true for all those buses, pick a seat towards the front for sure. The thing I liked most about the direct bus over the segments is that the direct bus keeps your luggage so you don't have to carry everything. Apparently, this is your first time border crossing. ''Taxi', ''Hotel'', ''Visa'', ''Where are you going'' get a simple answer ''NO''. Everyone has to make living. It's just the system is not well organized as in the Western nations. Mind you some western nations systems are also inscrutable. All you have to do is to pay what you have to legally. Even extra bits is pittance when you convert the amount into your own currency. You travel to these areas of the world where the cost of living is cheaper than your own country. Why do you have to be so money-minded? Your extra paying to the locals help their livelihood.
