    Hands down the most clear, well narrated leaf spring vid I've seen. Holy buckets Batman!

      I second that ! I am about to go to the pull a part for the 1st time here in a few days for leaf springs myself. Heres to hoping it goes as “smoothly” as that was.

    Who needs an impact gun when Martin breaks bolts and ratchets lol. I was in Vegas a couple weeks ago on the freeway and saw a Cherokee kinda like yours at first sight and said to myself hey its Martin!! Alas it was not yours.

    That pick a part in Henderson is my favorite yard. Ladies get in for free just like the club's in Vegas LMAO. I always stop by when I leave Vegas. Cheap prices and they always got cars coming in. Awesome video.

      let me ask you something will bad leaf springs make your wheels skip ? I go over some sharp little bumps at high speed the rear feels like its jumps and I noticed the Rpm on the dashboard dances a little when it does that. my mechanic seems more to think my transmission is going out

    2000 Jeep Cherokee Will a broken rear shackle bracket cause the rear end to be off center and cause a noise in the rear end... i have replaced both axles bearing and seals. CHANGED OUT RING GEAR AND CARRIER BEARING FROM ANOTHER JEEP THAT I KNOW WERE GOOD...So

    You cannot see the nut through that hole. You can see the tapered tip of the bolt. The nut is in a pocket between the outer side of the frame rail and the inner side of the bracket. You have to cut into the pocket if that tacked nut spins on you.

    Wish I’d seen this video before I did my own leaf spring replacement. Snapped the front bolt just like you did and I’m currently trying to figure out how to drill it out. Might’ve been different if I had lubed up the bolt through the frame

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  5 років тому +1

      Good luck! Hope there's not to much swearing trying to get that bolt out.

    • @jamesrice2424
      @jamesrice2424 5 років тому

      martinbuilt Haha thanks Martin. Just wondering, do you know if there’s a way to tell whether or not I broke the nut inside the frame, or just the bolt? The bolt just seems stuck on the actual nut (I drilled through it and it still won’t budge)

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  5 років тому

      @@jamesrice2424 sounds like the fixed nut inside the frame is spinning with the bolt. The metal that held the nut in place failed. I would try using a hole saw to the bottom side of the frame and hopefully you can get to the nut.

    • @jamesrice2424
      @jamesrice2424 5 років тому

      martinbuilt Thanks for your advice Martin. Did the job a few weeks ago and got lucky. Turns out it was just a snapped bolt, and the nut didn't break off. I highly recommend using impact guns while doing this job. Compressed air is really a necessity for carriage bolts

    • @DustySteel
      @DustySteel 2 роки тому

      @@jamesrice2424 I am about to take these bolts out. I’ve been spraying them for months with Pb blaster and now Seafoam deep creep so hopefully the nut doesn’t break off the welds. If this does happen I’ve heard of cutting under where the nut is and opening it up so you can fit a wrench in to hold the nut. Other people have also cut a hole in the floorboards. I’m really hoping I don’t have to do this. The Jeep is very rusty, originally from PA.

  • @ohlays9187

    from my xj being from canada and having a lot of rust i find that, that clicking noise when taking off bolts is just the bolt freeing up as parts of the threads are exposed and either covered in rust its when the bolts is to easy to pull out thats when i have my problems lol.

    • @savage22bolt32
      @savage22bolt32 2 роки тому

    Do they allow grinders in that salvage yard, or did you have to sneak it in? The Pull-A-Part in Knoxville doesn’t allow them 😕

    • @martinbuilt

      Yes, kind of funny, sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but when they do allow it. You must have a fire extinguisher with you.

    Ugh, can't put this off any longer I suppose. I have 2 sets of helper leafs (one in front of the axel and one behind) under both leaves which has been fine so far so I kept putting it off. I have thicker coil springs though that should fit up front I might do first and ball joints haven't been changed. Other than that I've done all the suspension components and I still unexpectedly get death wobble even though I've changed everything else. It's weird, I'll have no problems at all for a while then suddenly, one day, every bump causes death wobble. Wtf? I don't seem to get it when I have a passenger and also it seems to happen more after a long drive. I have 2 xj's and death wobble is always just lurking around the corner always coming when you least expect it. I'm used to it but when you have another vehicle behind you it's no fun. Edit: I always pb blaster my nuts and bolts days in advance and keep doing it until I'm ready to remove them and always use a torch, you shouldn't have to worry about the gas tank it's not that close and it's plastic which doesn't transfer heat so you'd see it melting.

    • @martinbuilt
      @martinbuilt  4 роки тому

      Have you checked your drive shafts?

    • @dickJohnsonpeter
      @dickJohnsonpeter 4 роки тому

      @@martinbuilt thanks, drive shaft looks fine, I'll have to see the new leafs change the angle though. I think I actually got the death wobble fixed now. Had to take it to get it up on a lift because I remembered the front suspension geometry was all shifted to the right from the lift so I put in an adjustable track bar and got it all brought back to center. Now I can't get death wobble no matter how much I try. So far..

    That's the 2nd time I heard you say Michigan.. The only rust I have on my 2004 WJ was on the bottom right of my liftgate.. Which is a jeep thing not a Mich. Thing.. Love your videos but please stop pointing us out..Smh would love to send you a picture if I could... Not all Mich. Jeeps all junk.. 4.7 and I would drive it to Mexico tonight if I had to..and that's with 142,000 on the clock

      Dennis Volkening I don't mean to pick on Michigan. The only reason I'm mentioning it is I'm getting this stuff for a guy that used to live in Michigan and he knows all about rust. I'm from Iowa I'm no stranger to it that's for sure. I'm pretty spoiled out here in southern Nevada. You can sand a car out here to its bare Steel and I'll still be nice and shiny a year later
