Matt, you’re saving my marriage with this video, who knows where I would’ve ended up. Thank you my man.🙏
"After about 5 hours of hard work, you'll have that sucker right out of there... now only 3 more to go!" Hahah... Glad it's not just me!!!
U fact bully lol 😆😂🤣
P B blast is the nectar oil of the gods! It's amazing! I always spray every nut and bolt first.
Shit I sprayed my shocks with it and boom no shear bolt ug ug
My 92 has half a mil on it. Still tearing it up !!! Rough Country has one more subscriber. I installed the leafs 15 yrs ago.
Great video! Just spent 7 hours with my son putting new leaf springs in his 91 XJ. I'd be lying if I said it was easy, but we got 'er done and your video was a huge help! Thanks!
If you have a hydraulic lift. It takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on skill and preparation.
@@eaglewarrior8707 I would agree and add amount of rust.
@@eaglewarrior8707 absolutely, I've been working on my xj passenger leaf spring for about 4 days so far, today I just purchased my first sawzall, these leafs are coming out..
Don't lower the axle too far down at first, and the bolt holding the leaf springs in place will have less pressure on it. Helping the bolt come out easier.
Thats what i was thinking, you can see when it lets lose how much pressure was keeping that bolt in haha
That's how I did it , new sponsor should be PB blaster, lol
Also easier just to replace it from the shacklebolt down, have the shackles already on the springs
Thanks for the trick! I'll probably have to use the same technique next weekend. I noticed that my XJ is starting to handle like a walmaruk shopping cart, just a glance down below and wow the leaf springs are completely flat with no load! Thanks for all you do, cheers!
Great video it’s always nice to see how innovative mechanics get to loosen nuts and bolts.
dude..love you're "no BS", very easy to understand videos!! I just joined the "jeeping" community with a POS '98 xj...can't wait to turn it into something nice!! Just subscribed to Rough Country as well! Thanks Matt!
Little top tip! If you are tightening bolts that are subject to coming loose, What to do is draw a line down the nut and down a bit further to whatever it's connected to... That way a quick check would be to confirm the lines are matching!
Really helpful stuff ,I️ am so happy with your videos ,just did 4.5 rough country lift on my sons xj , videos made life so much easier :
Please keep up the GREAT work !!!
been a fan of the channel for a while. haven't tried the jack yet but i will now, my xj is stubborn!
Great video. Need to change leaf springs soon on 1990 Cherokee base model. This video very helpful.
Thanks for the great video. This showed me that this is one of the few repairs or modifications that I dont want to do myself at home.
I subscribed to rough country! y'all are the best channels for my 95 jeep cherokee sport!
Subscribed to the rough country channel. Love your channel. Definitely helping me with my new to me 98 XJ. Overall it's in good shape but damn the po neglected some of the basic maintenance and now stuff is getting done.
Mr. Rogers of off-roading, good stuff.
Thank god for snipes, (breaker bars), Being a pipe fitter in the oil patch, I've used them thousands of times and I never go to work without a few of them in the truck.
As always great video, add a leaf just gave out on my 98 xj so time for an upgrade. I subscribed!
Thank you for sharing this. I want to replace the springs on my 1980 Jeep and after watching this I feel I could do it myself and not pay a shop. The leaves more money for other needed items.
Nice and chill workout 🏋️♀️ good work
Very simple n efficiently done.
Gosh I feel so lucky, I live in AZ, I have a 2000 XJ. it is rust free, no problems with bolts seizing up, I am in the process of installing Rough Country 4.5 leaf springs as we speak, all of my bolts are coming off with ease my Cherokee is from AZ no rust
Love the channel and just subscribed to rough country.
3:35 just saved me a ton of time not removing the bumper. Can’t believe I missed that!!!
I’m buying a shirt!
subscribed. thanks for the info on the leaf springs. gonna be real helpful. 2000 jeep cherokee that I'm restoring.
hey great work very helpful vidios subscribed and to rough country as requested!
Great video. I had to cut a few of the bolts on mine. The Diablo carbide blade was the best i've ever used for a reciprocating saw. It was way quicker! And put a torch to them and they spin easier, too. Thanks for the video!
Yes the Diablo blades will outlast several of the other brands. PB blast on the nuts and bolts works wonders too!
The best video how to install leaf springs 👍
If you are not going to reuse the leaf spring you are removing USE HEAT to break the bolt loose I use a propane torch (Yellow bottle) Or sometimes Heat / cool / heat / cool etc. I cool it with WD-40 because it penetrates as it loosens.
Great idea using the jack for leverage!
heat is the only way i could get mine off, just make sure you dont catch the interior of fire when doing the front bolt.!.
and i think the yellow bottle you are talking about is MAPP gas (methylacetylene-propadiene propane).?. it burns hotter than propane but uses a different torch head
+sony mathew how many spring leaf in your bolero I m mecanic spring leaf in bihar siwan jila chappra
Enjoyed your video and did subscribe to rough country tv.

good video
Subscribed!! Thx!
I dunno, Mr. Bleeper, is this the first time you've removed stock leaf springs?
I'd like to see him remove the steering arm from an old K5 from the 70's; now that would be entertaining!
Thank you.
If i can suggest something. ( I know this maybe highly debated) Anti seize on the suspension bolts. Buy a tub of the stuff. Use it library. I learned over the years. It keep rust down. I tighten the bolts every so often. And never had a problem. But if I need to remove a bolt... They come off without a fight. And Dielectric grease too. (All electrical plugs) Off road and corrosion is a big problem. If you dont have Anti seize on hand Axle grease can help just does not seem to last as long. AND ALWAYS CHECK SUSPENSION BOLTS REGULARLY, Even if you torqued to spec.. better safe then broken on the trail. I also use Dielectric grease on the little trim screws where they mount into plastic. makes installation/removal smoother too. My friends used to think i was crazy.. Now they all have large tubs of the stuff because of the time it saves.
...stuffs GREAT, ain't it??!! You don't have to go ape shit with it though, a little goes a long way.
Lol. Use it library. I do agree though!
Lock tight blue keeps corrosion out too.
@@thetravellingstamps itll get all over the books at the library... dont take it there
Do I have to be quiet
That's alotta work.
hey good video. did you use any black coating on the brackets to prevent rust ?
Good stuff bro, learned a lot

Good lord. How many commercials can we fit in an 11 minute video? Lol
Thanks for the video
0:07-0:10 he is saying blah blah blah with his lips and throwing in a (voice over) over that 😂🤙🏽
Subbed to Rough Country!:)
Will you be able to keep the other leaf spring loose on the other side to push the pin into its hole ? I'm talking about the second size you'd do. Thanks!!
Great job, about how long did it take to complete?
I want to add a flat bed on my dodge 2500 single axle diesel truck. Would adding a spring on each side safely help with payload capacity? Also, would adding the springs and airbags be beneficial or do airbags serve the same purpose?

Wow you had an easier time than I did, I could back the boots out of the frame, but not out of the bushing, had to cut them out. Bolts where $8 a piece from jeep. Hardest* thing to do on the lift.
I subscribed!
nice, thx
cool video dude a do you have a how to video on a add leaf I just got 4.5 lift kit from RC and I'm not sure if do it right ..... 😨
I have an 87 Jeep Wrangler YJ I ordered 4 inch lift leaf springs what else do I have to change up on if I put 4 inches on it do I have to change out the brake cable lines or anything else like that and I also change the engine mounts is there something for the transmission as well for the standard
hi, I was about to replace the leafs on my 95, I also add the leaf from rough country, the problem is, it's short about 2 inches, do I need to buy the extended shackles? thanx.
Hey, I just left... well... I didn't leave anything anywhere. In super duper stoned. I subscribed to rough country. At rough country TV. Or whatever. So how about that t shirt and all that cool stuff matt... how about they sponsor up some... I dunno. Some jeep parts. I am taking donations for my non-profit jeep. So... holler at me haha
Strange to see my comment from 3 years ago. Still have not done it but at least I have new springs sitting on my living room floor.
what about extended brake lines and did you need to do a sye when you did this
I recommend anyone doing this just buys new bolts for the front of the leaf springs as I had to cut mine in order to get it out. No pry bar or penetrating fluid in the world was getting this thing out. The bushing and bolt had become one. It wasn’t very rusty it’s just that the bushing had compressed completely around the bolt.
The bolt part number is 34202118.
About to install a whole lift myself for the first time - what kind of grease do we use? Any names appreciated.

Hello just wondering how long these leafs will last before they begin sagging? Wondering if rc will last or not
Any suggestion on how to fix a stripped shackle nut (bolt that goes in the frame) who ever did the add a leaf stripped it any ideas on how to get a bolt to go in

What size U-bolts do I need for the dana 35?
Are those regulars leaf springs ?
Or does it really exist some leaf spring that may give you some lift on inches? 2 , 3 , inches?
I want to put new set leaf springs on my truck. , but I also would love at least 3 " lift in back!
I'm thinking in doing new set leaf springs , prob. 2" blocks, new shocks!
If you could help me with some ideas or tips would be great !
Mine is 2003 2wd ranger !
Thank you !
So on your jeep cherokee it has rubber bushings for that shackle connection to the leaf. Mine has a metal roller in that leaf end? Is this normal? IF so how do I get the old metal roller out?
I am having trouble finding the right bolts to buy for my shackles and leaf springs. Can you send me a link?
I have subscribed
Which lift did you use for this? 3.5, 4.5, etc
Just put on 6 leaf springs on my 98 xj in my general automotive class last weak I had 3 saggy springs and the top spring cracked in two on both sides
I have a 1999 jeep cherokee limited i want to do 4 inch lift .. i have a 2 inch spacer lift in front and well the back is sagging so needless to say im ready to give her the makeover probably even replacing the springs in front to not have to use spacers .. MY QUESTION is i have double Carden drive shafts front and back do i need to do Transfer Case Drop? And where can i get a 4 inch lift Kit with Complete leaf spring packs?
newbie here, my car has a leaf spring installed with a contact under the axle and does not sit on the axle just like what is on the video. Is that still good or should I change it?
This guys sounds affects are legit
I attempted to install these same shackles today...it did not go nearly as smooth as yours. The bolts had to be threaded through the holes in the new shackles and did not slide right in like yours did. Also, for some reason, the bolt provided with the kit must have been a different thread than the OE bolt? I don't know but it was very difficult to tighten. I also ended up having to burn out the bushings from my leaf springs (I did not replace my leafs) to remove the shackles...such a PITA.
Hey guys I have a question. I bought a yj from a private party. She said the jeep has a 3” lift but I’m not sure if that is accurate. The vehicle is a 94 Wrangler S with a 4.0. Is it necessary to change motor mounts too due to lift? How can I measure to see what the actual lift is?
"Now we'll torque them to spec" Pulls out an impact wrench, lol. Nyloc nuts FTW!
He probably really knows his tool. Uuh huhu... I said tool hu hu!
I love this dude😂😂
Will poor shackle angle cause a bounce in the rear end? If not what will cause it on this lift?
where i can buy those leafs springs? what model are they for a 2001 xj
Broke the front leaf bolt trying to get it out. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
This video although very good proves the use of inox or similar on the under body the day before is a good idea
hey whats up mat its john from the 956 got my day driver . its a toyota t 100 2.7 standard put a ton of parts injector s fuel pump plugs wireings tps . and air flow mass sencior and discover that it doesn't have a pulse its got ground and power . they say its my computer . what do u think please let me know .ill be on line.
Are those considered "long travel" leafs? Or are they just for the lift?
What size are the front bolts on the leaf springs? I had to cut mine lol
Don't torque with an impact gun like you are doing in the video. U bolt nuts only require like 80ftlbs. Over torque provides a harsher ride and less flex. This is an important step. TORQUE THE NUTS.
What is a the tightness for the 2500HD? 90ft lbs?
@@SomethingAlwaysGood You may already know but it all depends on the u bolt thickness. 5/8 for example is about 115-125
