      I won't throw games on purpose, but when facing a new player I will either go easy on them or practice things such as deflects if I'm playing an assassin. After that I will often give them tips and then wish them good luck =)

      and god bless ppl like you. im not that good at the game and when im fighting someone much better than me, more than anything, i feel bad for not giving them a worthy fight. for wasting their time. personally, if i am encountering a worse player i enjoy helping them out, but i am not sure many are like me (or you, backon) and i feel like im wasting their time. so its great to meet a good sport that helps me out, give me some tips or just practice on my weaknesses.

      Yeah this stuff is great. If you play for HONOR head on without any guides or help, it can really put you off the game. The skill level must seem very high ti new player, but all they really need to know is how the mechanics work, and how to make them effective, once you know these things, it's not as hard as it seems. Plus I say to all new player, experience on the battlefield is the best way to learn how players treat you. And on top of that you have to have the patience to learn how each character will treat you. It's a very unique experience. But I love it, and I hope the new players learn to love it too. Good job Bouse

    A great tip for new players is feinting a heavy into a heavy, and alternately feinting a heavy into a light or a guard break is a pretty good way to throw off peoples attack timing and parry timing, a big part of late game pvp is getting inside peoples heads and getting the absolute most out of your characters counter play punishes if they have one.

      Trash Bin if they go for parry you get a free heavy on them though I used to play warden who has a really slow over head heavy and if you feint that shit you get them most of the time

      Note to others if you're up against a Shugoki do a heavy feint then parry instead of a heavy, they have super armor that gives them a free uninterruptible hit even after they're hit but damaging or guard breaking a Shugoki will remove that armor for a short time and they'll take more damage as well; you'll know this when they're a darker shade before their "armor" regenerates back from a white glow to which you'll have to remove it again (however once they're out of stamina it won't come back until they fully recover and getting damaged, blocking and other activities will delay his armor regeneration).
      The heavy feint heavy may work after the armor is gone but don't forget their armor and high damage until you're use to fighting them. Also if you can, do your best to avoid walls and ledges especially if you're still learning how to counter guard break. If hit against a wall they can give you the Demon's embrace, a Shugoki's hug of death, which can heal them upon finishing and/or instantly killing you if they're near death no matter how much hp you have. As for ledges they can have a perk that throws you far away after a guard break (I think even without it they have a good throwing range don't take my word for it) but they also have a combo where they can knock you far off like a golf ball once guard broken so watch your footing and practice your guard breaks to the best of your abilities. The advanced tutorial is good for this but practicing with a friend or player can usually be even more better.
      I'm sorry for the ramblings and I hope this was able to help others some but mind games are definitely the fun way to go once you're fighting against high skilled players.

      Fainting a heavy into a heavy is pretty good when you're fighting an assassin that tends to dodge a lot. With the faint, you basicly make them dodge your heavy to early and then your heavy (IF they dodge) is basicly garantued. Against most people that only works one or two times though.

    Yo I fucking love going out of stam with Zerker. I do it on purpose sometimes to bait a deflect so I can push them to a wall and still get a side heavy. Sometimes you can even still get a top heavy if you throw them from just far enough. And if there's no wall around after you deflect, you can still get a light. This strategy works really well for me when my opponent is on that last bar of health and really starts to turtle up. He'll take me being out of stam as his chance to regain some ground on me. For anyone who tries this, just be careful and make sure they aren't going to feint and GB you when you dodge. This tip, of course, only works for Berserker because he is the only hero whose deflect leads into a guard break. I've been playing since the closed beta so I do have a few cool tricks like that. I still like these tip videos for the new guys just in case there is something I may have missed. So far no, but maybe one day.

      Embers so you are the one out of stamina but you get a deflect? That doesn't get the free guard break if you are out of stamina. And a patch very soon will make it impossible to deflect when out of stamina.

      Felix, I do that too sometimes. and Dustin idk where you heard they're making it so you can't deflect out of while out of stamina. A source would be nice. And I'm guessing reading is a bit of challenge for you because you clearly missed the part where Berserker's deflect automatically goes into a guard break.

  • @lenaj3893
    @lenaj3893 7 років тому +5

    one thing that's important to remember is that certain heroes have attacks that if blocked can give the opponent a guaranteed guardbreak! things like blocking a top lunging attacks from the Gladiator or Valkyrie or a Wardens zoneattack (to name a few) Also if you guardbreak someone, be careful where you do it as you get pushed back if the opponent guardbreak counters you, which can cause you to fall off of the map or into environmental hazards like fire, spikes or off of ledges and bridges! I hope this helps out! ^^

    I'm a Rep 26 player and I like keeping an eye out for these beginner tip videos. There is nothing wrong with going back to the basics. Sometimes the game can flood you with too much information and know-how, making it overly complicated. Going back to humble beginnings can be refreshing. Plus it is good to see what your "opponents" and allies are being taught in early stages. It never hurts to know your enemy.

    One of the most important things is to learn what your particular hero can do. Before even attempting to pick up a new hero, I read through their whole moveset, looked at what their specific abilities were (things like Superior Block, Deflect, Hidden Stance, Full Block Stance, Charged Attacks, etc.) and then tested them out against a bot to get the feel for it. After that, I looked up a few UA-cam videos to find out things that the moveset page didn't necessarily mention, such as Conqueror getting a free guardbreak from blocking any heavy attack, rather than trying to parry and getting baited out by a feint.
    It's also important to note that each class has different ways of getting their feats faster. Knowing the fastest way to get your feats will help you figure out where you need to be on the battlefield. Vanguards should be controlling objectives and killing soldiers. Heavies should be assisting heroes and defending objectives. Assassins should be hunting down heroes, 1v1ing and getting killing streaks. For Hybrids, renown is balanced across all activities.

      I've been loving them both to the core of my heart, especially the Gladiator which I've always grew up to love and ad or ever since my childhood lol(Swords and Sandals was a really popular flash game series I use to love, then there was the Arena in Oblivion, some sort of free gladiator game on the ps3 and now my favorite fighter of all time being played in For Honor. If there was a fighter that I'd almost love more than my Shinobi it would be the Gladiator).
      However I would love to know what type of gladiators are they? Anywho my connection seems to have been okay so far with very few disconnects so it's been alright on my end lol. Do note my connection is either in the yellow or it's "disconnected"/unknown from time to time and I seem to play okay with only a couple of disconnects so it could nat depending on what type you have.

      Haku Oshino: In regards to what type of Gladiator the For Honor one is, The Metatron put out a video recently discussing that, and the TL;DR is basically he/she is a mixed bag of multiple Roman Gladiator 'classes' jumbled together. Not really 'criticizing' the character (IE he's not saying it's objectively shit), just nitpicking historical accuracy for people who might be interested in what's true and what isn't.

    New players, the most valuable advice we can give (that Bouse also touched upon) is to watch what your opponent does. If someone kicks your ass into the 46'th dimension, remember how they did it! I'm only rep 1 with raider but I can ruin people's day with him anyway because I have been absolutely annihilated by them so many times that I know every trick they have.

      @CroJordan 7 років тому

      I'm honestly glad every time I have to fight Centurion because most of the time they're relatively agressive. You just need to be patient and focused paying attention to their mixups. Blocking their heavies is the best option most of the time since they night catch you with a soft feint GB trying to parry. On the other hand it's easy to bait out parries because they have to commit to them. They can only feint charged heavies.Know your enemy, I played him myself a couple Reps. That makes it much easier. He still needs a tweak here and there though. The increased stamina cost is a step in the right direction

    I have had game since release, I main lawbringer, after I threw them into a wall, I would always go into the swift justice finisher, it usually worked until I started going against better people and they parried my 2nd light attack, I have learned the error of my ways when I parried a lawbringer who did the same thing.

    Look for people like me who are arround since launch if you find a newcomer try to extend the match as much as you can in duels what I try to do is give them chances to try their characters and not just kill them in a second. If they run out of stamina WAIT until they can fight if they don t learn punish A BIT don t throw them instantly even if they tried to throw you (or tryed to ledge you just to be clear). What i m about to say didn t work for me but because i couldn t use a microphone at the time but counter their guardbreak, as you would normaly do, but when you break their guard let them try to counter it so they can try to get the timing down. Do this a few times each round if it does not work then just fight normaly. To sum it up my point is to not abusre newcomers because they are learning i say this because if they see that there are people willing to have a good fight then they can learn from that and keep the community alive a bit longer and please don t be asshoels in 4v4 modes i am not saying to give them the win but take it a bit easy. Sory for the long comment \[T]/

    for guarenteed guard breaks there are also some after your opponent does certain attacks you just have to doge the attack before it lands and some of them are very easy like beserkers leaping heavy or leaping light, valkyries leg sweep or leaping attack, shogoki and highlander heavy misses (usually top) shogokis oni charge if it misses, centurians kick, orochis storm rush....there are many many more most characters have at least 1 or 2 guaranteed guard breaks if their attack and misses....an easy way to tell is mostly if the attack is very telegraphed and easy to parry dodgeing will result in you getting a guaranteed guard break or if you just see the animation on a miss makes them stumble or stay there seemingly frozen if your quick you get a guaranteed guard break

  • @tanpohheng3322
    @tanpohheng3322 7 років тому

    Note that the best time to feign a heavy is after a attack lands on your opponent( about twice to be safe) or after a hit given after a gb punish. Plus don't be afraid to go for those heavies if your opponent thinks you feign a lot of moves and/or they throw out too many feints into feints. Plus a simple way to discourage your opponent from doing to many gbs is to do a light attack after cgb twice, or do it when you think they are going to toss a gb. With enough time, you should be able to throw those lights out reactively to a gb. Lastly, most people only use up to two sides of their guard unconsciously(unless they are randomly switching their guard) and the two sides are usually either the side where their fastest/most efficient/most damaging attack comes from and where the default guard stance (your right is always your default guard stance) so occasional light attacks from the unguarded side may hit if they slip up

    Don't constantly feint attacks(unless you are Kensei or centurion) because the enemy can sometimes predict the feint and guard break or light to stop or cancel your oncoming attack. So if they start catching on to what you usually do let the heavy fly and catch them off guard

    Be careful versus the Shugoki as he may not care at all if you hit him as he will power through and guardbreak you thanks to his passive one hit of super armor which also decreases the damage of whatever attack he recieves while it's up. But to your luck his armor goas away if any hit connects or if a guardbreak connects even if he breaks the attampt. He also takes increased damage while his armor is down.

    I really like what you're doing with the guides for those that may need it. What I think would've been a good idea to cover would've been unblockables. Perhaps people should know that you can't block them but the ways to get around most of them would help a lot so that people aren't getting beat up by those usual centurions and ect. It took a good amount of time to learn what to do and not to do for each unblockable.

      Rip_Roll I only throw top heavy as a warden when it's guaranteed. Go for a wall splat after gb th or fully charge the warden charge. The latter is harder to master when to use in a fight. Typically it's easiest to land on people who like to wiff the first attacks in a chain to get the unblockables. Ie a bad lawbringer, or kensies and centurians

    My biggest piece of advice that even I as a Rep 27 overall and especially as a Rep 15 Conqueror still need to remember all the time is simple: DON'T PANIC.
    When someone throws a big, scary attack at you, especially if it has a stupidly long period of time before you can even parry it (looking at you, Centurion), don't chalk it up to muscle memory. Watch the attack. Wait until you see the white of the parry timer. Then, either it'll come and you'll be ready, or they'll have feinted it by then. Now, I understand not everyone has that kind of reaction time. 200ms (soon to be 100ms) is not a lot of time. My second piece of advice that even someone slow as Conq can use is throw out your fastest attack. Even a well-timed Light (as long as they don't have hyper-armor, like Warlord heavies, Berserker top heavies, or a Lvl 4 Conq feat) can stop even a scary unblockable in its tracks. Even though it doesn't give you the parry punish, sometimes just making sure that attack doesn't land is your best course of action.
    Furthermore, panic that gets capitalized on and leads to a loss can tilt you, hard. Remaining calm (as hard as that is to do sometimes) can help you focus, and help prevent tilt. If something goes wrong and you die, don't blame who you were fighting (even if it's a Centurion) and take a second in the respawn screen to think about what you could have done better for next time.
    Oh, and speaking of the respawn screen, (mainly in 4v4s) don't just stare at the map. Switch the view to your teammates. See who and how they're fighting, and just know where they are before your next spawn so you can plan where to go next. Also, if you weren't executed and can be revived, look to see if anyone's running to revive you. I've had too many times where people respawn just before or even during a revive. Keep an eye out. You might learn something, and you'll get another chance at the fight instead of running all the way back from spawn.

  • @TarotNathers
    @TarotNathers 7 років тому

    If you're new and trying to work on timing for parries (and by extension deflects for assassins), go a couple rounds against the how to play bots. Sure the attack patterns they use are really basic, and don't reflect how an experienced player will fight, but it gives you more experience on attack timing.
    And if you are in a fight and feel overwhelmed by faster characters, don't turtle, but don't try anything rash. Read them for a moment, and recognize the attack patterns they use. If a PK or similar assassin likes to dodge attack you, provoke the attack and prepare accordingly. And if all else fails, just try to block the attacks and weather the storm. Better to see how the combo works than get bodied by it.

    Papa Bouse! Towards the end you asked why a veteran would watch these vids. I can answer that. Im a day 1 player (and consider myself a skilled player) but i still like to watch your tutorials. This is because i like all your other content and even if i havent exactly learned anything, for some reason i still enjoy watching your videos. And since i enjoy you as a content creator i feel like its my duty to support you. And i also hear that my youtube red subscription gives content creators a bonus of some sort when i watch their videos. So i just like to support you

    If you are using gladiator, and ur opponent is out of stamina you should throw a light then the back unblockable bleed heavy attack but feint it and go for the foot stab to put them on the ground

  • @slicedmilk7858
    @slicedmilk7858 7 років тому

    Really enjoy this, but a little tip I would want to give. When you are going into custom games to show things like parrying, I would prefer it if you wouldn't show someone parrying, and then follow that up with a feint in unblockable into feint into guard break into breakdance.
    My point generally is, that for a more experienced player, those moves would make sense, but for a novice seeing you do a parry and then following that up with all those would most likely confuse them with unnecessary details.
    Good video though

    Good on you for the guide vid, main comment so far is that I think Gladiator has a parry punish as well, and that I think Kensei can dash-grab off a parry against long range heroes, but I'm not sure if the latter is confirmed?

    This video series is awesome for the health of the game. Just a suggestion but a video on current issues such as the "dodge guard switch delay" and "zone flicker" and such like to help new players understand what is "tech" and what is a bug. :)

  • @OPgamingstyle
    @OPgamingstyle 7 років тому

    My best advice for new players is not to go into the game thinking that they can be on par with everyone they meet. Even after the tutorials there are so many more things you will not be aware of that you will not be able to counter without experiencing it more often. Take every loss with a grain of salt and view is as a learning experience. Get some friends together and have them use tactics you lost to in multiplayer matches so you can learn how to handle those situations. Also be aware that the community helper emblem is becoming more and more popular. Checkout the video showcasing it by the Rodney Bros and be on the lookout for anyone using it and they may be able to give you some extra tips, if they are going to be your opponent in a duel or something ask them afterwards what you can do to improve your game.

    I suggest everyone that is gonna face an oponent, to feint your heavies into guard breaks and see what is he gonna do, wether he tries to parry. dodges or just counters it depending on that, try to plan a strategy to beat the person. Now, not only that, but be patient and pay attention on your oponent's moves, cause most likely, they will spam a lot of things that are easy to counter once you get a decent read of what they do, now, you might not pull this off on round 1, but by round 2, you should keep in mind what your oponent did last round and counter it. If your oponent doesnt change his playstyle, he's bound to lose the match
    TL:DR, try to read your oponent's moves, throw random feints into GuardBreaks to see what your oponent does and use it against him

  • @wicek3d

    Hey Bouse - good clip. I have a suggestion for you tho - as you asked at the end of the video :) How about adding some text on solid background reading about the start of another section of information ( when you change the subject) and a list for things of this section you covered up , as a summary (at the end of the section). You did that 'header' and 'sum-up' thing with your voice and I think adding a bit of text would fall into the memory of players here a lot more. Also - some people read better then they listen, when it comes to information.

      Sort of why I like the Gladiator since they're like a light wrestler lol but this would be interesting. It's maybe doubtful that they'll have something like this (although it's possible you'll never know) but with the temples around I wonder if we'll ever have anything like (Shaolin) monks or etc. Some form of martial art warriors perhaps? Either way I still think a heavy class using their pure body and strength to kill others would be bad ass xD, if not by hand then at least give them a huge war hammer or maybe even a war axe.

    Usually I see and learn other players in match so I can win. From player to player differs with the same hero. One warlord would try to throw heavy attacks and the other warlord just try to GB or head-butt. Fainting is almost key to the game but be careful when you fight with somebody that has a hyper armor. Hyper armor was meant to trade blows with other heros. It looks like a flash of light on the hero. Not all heroes have hyper armor but they can get it from other heroes such as a raider's stamped charge, centurion's pin attack, etc.

    As a NOBUSHI u should Rly use your hidden stance to evade attacks especially the Orange ones who do no damage like CENTURIO punch and kick WARDEN shoulder bash WARLORD head but CONQUERER shield bash doing so will grant you 2 light attacks which inflict bleed damage and when your opponent has bleed on him he takes 25% more damage of all your attacks

    From a Beta and Launch day vet to all new players, don't just spam/use heavy attacks. I see so many new people and even some long time players that try to use/only use heavy attacks simply b/c it technically does the most damage but they are very easy to parry/block/dodge away from. Almost every duel I do and I see a new player I try to explain this too and even try to help them with some combo's with their class (if i know them). Most often they will even stay in the match and even more matches b/c they see someone actually telling/showing them things they can do to win. Example: Heavy/Unblock feints, GB/Counter GB timing, dodge attacks/away/timing, light attack taunting(yes that's a thing), etc. All of a sudden the next duel match and they're actually getting good hit's/kills on me and it becomes much more fun to duel them and even thank me for showing them some good fighting moves.

    Any newcomers I do have some tips in this video he did not mention...A feature in the game that involves guard breaking...if u can deflect (block) and gladiator or a valkrie while they dash attack (dodge then light attack) you are guaranteed a guard break...(I'm not sure if this works with other dash attacks...maybe Phoenix can test it)... And also if u can deflect (block) a Conqueror's light attack from any direction you're also Guaranteed a guard break.

    I've been playing this game since the beta. I'm a rep 20 LB with an overall rep of 25. I've beaten many a foe from duels to dominion. And yet I continue to watch beginner's guides.
    Why do I do this? Because you can never be the best player. There will never be a point in this game, or any game, where you have achieved total mastery. There is always either something new to learn, or something to re-learn.
    With that said, I have some very helpful advice for all players, new and old alike: Never think you know everything. Watch videos like these, and take it all in. There is always more to learn.

  • @nemak89
    @nemak89 7 років тому

    Well new players really should learn two things which make their playing experience 100x better (I have learnt the hard way :Z). First - counter guard break, especially if you play Dominion where everyone just tries to throw you off the ledge. Second - dodge the attacks you are supposed to dodge like Centurion kick, Raiders charge or Valkyrie sweep (this one is kind of weird since the animation of it is a 180 degree sweep but you can dodge it to the side actually even if it makes no sense when you look at the animation and the character model). I will not explain how to do it here since i am sure there are videos on youtube so just search it up. After you get these two things down, you can start to practice parries and other stuff since these two things are anti-cheese things and most of ppl will try to cheese you since its the easiest way how to kill you.

      ButtaNToast Haha I can't tell you the amount of times I've wanted to kill my own teammates because of their dumb decisions. Like, we don't need THREE PEOPLE on ONE FLAG unless the enemy has three. Another thing that shits me is when I'm about to execute somebody then a teammate steals my much needed kill for healing. One last one is when you're fighting multiple enemies with a teammate and they change target. JUST STICK TO ONE OF THEM AND FINISH THEM!!! It's annoying because they've just let somebody who was almost dead get away and regen health because he decided to take on somebody else or the guy you're fighting. I don't want your help unless I'm on the ground, just give me a chance to get up and I'll be grateful.
